Wennmacher, Pamela L. "Effects of Click + Continuous Food Vs. Click + Intermittent Food on the Maintenance of Dog Behavior." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2007. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc3598/.

Full text
Abstract:
There is disagreement among clicker trainers on whether or not food should be delivered every time the clicker (conditioned reinforcer) is used. However, presenting a conditioned reinforcer without food can weaken the strength of the conditioned reinforcer and also disrupt its discriminative stimulus function. A within subjects reversal design was used with 2 dogs to compare the behavioral effects of continuous pairings (C+F condition) vs. intermittent pairings (C+C+F condition) of the clicker with food. Results show that the C+C+F condition affects the frequency, accuracy, topography, and intensity of the behavior, and increases noncompliance and other unwanted behaviors. This study adds to the literature by evaluating the effects of conditioned reinforcement in an applied setting using discrete trials without undergoing extinction.

Feuerbacher, Erica Nan. "Natural concepts in the domestic dog." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2009. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc12123/.

Full text
Abstract:
The current study investigated concept formation in domestic dogs, specifically that of a toy concept. The dog's differential responding (retrieval vs. non-retrieval) to two sets of stimuli suggested a toy concept. Differential responding occurred from the very first trial, indicating that the concept had been formed in the natural environment, not during the experiment. It was hypothesized that a common response may be responsible for the emergence of the class in the natural environment. The results demonstrated that it was possible to expand the class by adding previously non-retrieved objects to the toy class through a common response. It was also shown that the toy concept passed the more stringent criterion (transfer of function test) required validating it as a concept.

Henry, Courtney L. "The Psychological and Physiological Effects of Using a Therapy Dog in Mindfulness Training." DigitalCommons@USU, 2013. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/1957.

Full text
Abstract:
Research from various fields has demonstrated the benefits of human-animal interaction for physical and mental health. Recently, animal-assisted therapy (AAT) has become increasingly popular in a variety of healthcare settings--including inpatient mental health care facilities. However, there is limited research investigating the efficacy of AAT in outpatient sites. In addition, the impact of animals as an adjunct to psychotherapy treatment remains mostly uninvestigated. Therefore, it is necessary to empirically explore what therapy animals may contribute to specific treatment interventions with specific populations. The present study was a randomized control trial examining the psychological and physiological effects of adding AAT to a modified mindfulness-based stress reduction program (MBSR) for clients experiencing psychological distress, including anxious and depressive symptoms. It was hypothesized that AAT would be particularly complementary to mindfulness-based interventions because the therapy dog would provide a focus for attention to the current experience and exemplify acceptance and "being," enabling the understanding and practice of the main aspects of mindfulness. Subjects (N = 21) were randomly assigned to the MBSR or MBSR + AAT group and then completed an intervention consisting of six 50-minute individual therapy sessions. Each session included didactic and experiential components modified for delivery with or without a certified therapy dog. State and trait mindfulness, state and trait anxiety, psychological distress, blood pressure, and heart rate were assessed at each session. Results indicate that all participants experienced fewer anxiety and depressive symptoms, decreased psychological distress, and increased mindfulness skills from pre- to posttreatment. Additionally, state anxiety, blood pressure, and heart rate decreased within sessions. No significant difference was found between the control and experimental groups, indicating that interaction with a therapy dog had no impact on symptom reduction, skill acquisition, or client satisfaction in the current study. Future studies need to increase methodological rigor by including multiple therapist/dog teams and increasing sample size. Moreover, researchers must examine more thoroughly the role the dog might have in altering the social environment, such as reducing stigma surrounding mental health services and enhancing the therapeutic alliance.

Rulla, Emily. "When to Say It: Establishing a Verbal Cue." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2017. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc1062811/.

Full text
Abstract:
Dog trainers sometimes teach verbal cues by saying the cue as the dog is performing the desired behavior. However, there is disagreement about when to say the cue. In this study, a pet dog was trained to go to three different apparatus, the cue for each of which was given at a different time, in a multi-element design. The cue "hoop" was given just as the dog began to move to the hoop apparatus. The cue "carrier" was given as the dog was stepping into the carrier apparatus. The cue "platform" was given after the dog was sitting on the platform apparatus. To test if the dog had learned the cues, the trainer had the dog sit and gave the cue. During testing, if only the correct apparatus was present, the dog responded to all three cues. However, when all three apparatus were present, the dog only responded correctly to the "hoop" cue. This suggests that giving the cue just as the learner is beginning to perform the desired behavior is the most effective teaching method.

Leonardi, Rebecca Jean. "Paws for Progress : the development and evaluation of the first prison based dog training programme in the UK." Thesis, University of Stirling, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/1893/25452.

Full text
Abstract:
The most common type of human animal interaction (HAI) programme used in prisons involves prisoners caring for and training unwanted dogs from rescue shelters, to prepare the dogs for rehoming. Such programmes have been previously developed specifically aimed towards male young offenders, and are claimed to improve emotional, social and practical outcomes. Paws for Progress, the first prison based dog training programme in the UK, was introduced to HM YOI Polmont in 2011. By clearly communicating each step of the 5 Step approach (1. Identify the problem; 2. Review the evidence; 3. Develop a logic model; 4. Identify indicators and monitor the logic model; 5. Evaluate the logic model), it has enhanced our understanding of the development processes required for effective prison based dog training programmes. This evaluation provides the first comprehensive quantitative analysis of short, medium and long term outcomes for Scottish young offenders serving custodial sentences (N = 70) following participation. The aims of Paws for Progress are to improve behaviour, increase engagement in education, develop employability skills, and enhance well-being. Using a mixed design with two control groups and triangulating quantitative and qualitative outcomes, the evaluation assesses the efficacy of the programme in meeting these aims. Systematic analyses of semi-structured interviews pre and post participation in the programme support findings from the quantitative analyses. Analyses of institutional behaviour, measured by Disciplinary Reports, educational progress measured by written assessments and qualifications, employability skills measured by psychometric tests, and prisoner well-being all improved for participants, but such improvements were not shown by control groups. Paws for Progress positively impacts short and medium term outcomes and data on longer term outcomes also indicate the benefits are far reaching. By clearly relating programme aims to the outcomes achieved, and considering the contribution of Paws for Progress to future desistance from crime, the value and relevance of these findings are evident. The evaluation contributes to our understanding of effective methodologies in this applied context, which can be utilised to improve research practice in interventions in criminal justice and in human animal interaction.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT - Today´s society increasingly tries to provide a way to ease and improve the quality of the human being life. Assistance dogs is one of them. Guide dogs help blind people, hearing dogs assist people with severe hearing difficulties and service dogs help people with mobility, organic or mental problems. This type of dogs undergo a learning process using a specialized training in accordance with the type of users. Positive reinforcement and clicker techniques are the most used to achieve those aims. Moreover, breed and temperament choice is of utmost importance as the safety of people with disabilities is at stake. The main objective of this study was to characterize assistance dogs in Portugal in order to achieve that goal, two types of questionnaires were made, the first one to associations that train assistance dogs, and the another one to assistance dogs users. Inquires were made to three associations and 32 users throughout the country. It was found that Labrador Retriever is the most used breed due to its relaxed personality, its memory and its physical ability. The importance of neutering/spaying and vaccination was also accessed for all dogs. Finally we found that dog users feel more confident, secure, with better self-esteem and manage to socialize easier with society in general, after these animals were envolved in their lifes. In our days, law‟s allow these type of dogs to accompany their users in any public place, whether transport or commercial facilities, therefore enabling establishment of very strong connection with their owners since they share almost all their daily tasks.

Abstract:
Prison Animal Programs that bring inmates and dogs together consistently report improvements to inmates’ self-esteem, ability to empathize, and helping behaviors with no understanding of why these improvements occur. With similar improvement documented in relationship closeness literature, this research examines the felt inmate dog connection and self-reported closeness as a possible explanation for the three reported benefits. Introducing relationship closeness scales that substitute a dog for another person, 37 inmate handlers at three correctional facilities completed survey and interview questions measuring self-esteem, self-expansion, and self-other (dog) overlap.Research findings strongly support that inmate-dog connectivity is consistent with documented dyadic human connectivity to close family and friends. The self-reported connectivity between handler and dog is furthermore suggested to strongly influence the three areas of improvement with additional research recommended. Findings also suggest that working with dogs in prison initiates a healing or restorative process for both inmate handlers and the outside community.

Abstract:

Through this project -“Projekt Pedadoggen”- I have tested dog training as a pedagogical resource at Daily activities. The study was made together with a group of persons with intellectual and neuropsychiatric disabilities, whose daily activities consist of running a day-care centre for dogs. Each participator of the project trained a dog towards a specific goal. This goal was individually formulated by each participator from his or her specific interest. The participators chose to set up a show, which was planned and performed by them selves.

At the end of the project the participators were interviewed about their experiences of taking part on the project. Together with notes from the training, these interviews were the foundation of the hermeneutic influenced analysis. The theoretical outpost touches job satisfaction, work-integrated learning and the role of the pedagogue.

The main conclusion is that dog training can create good conditions for personal development which favour both the work-integrated learning and the lifelong learning. The role of coaching creates opportunities for personal development, among other things by giving the participators opportunities to plan, to work towards a goal, to read and adjust another individual, to improvise, to learn about exercise psychology, etcetera. The training with dogs creates lots of opportunities for interaction, for examples between the participator and participator, between the participator and the dog, and between the participator and people outside the work place. A positive aspect which was stressed by the participators is their own job satisfaction as well as the job satisfaction of the dog. They also stressed the special friendship which can develop between human and dog.

Abstract:
Currently, almost 50% of Peruvian families have a pet, being dogs being the most preferred domestic animal in households. Despite the current situation, pet ownership has not decreased in the country, the impact of the pandemic is that now owners tend to spend more time with their dogs, noticing different behaviors that were not perceive before. Therefore, when owners notice bad behaviors and are not able to solve them, they start looking for a dog trainertrainer for their dogs. This could be complicated because there is not information or reach of qualified people to assume this role. The following business proposal consists about the development of a mobile application that offers dog training services with two profiles targeting at users and trainers. The application is called "Dogner" which offers dog owners three types of services: Basic training, puppy socialization and sports training. Dog owners will be able to request service from the comfort of their home, choosing the closest and best qualified trainer, while their curriculum vitae will be visible and they owners will be able to follow up on each training session. The purpose of Dogner is to contribute with job opportunity to trainers who were affected by the current situation, as well as quick Access to search for dog training to all dog owners.

Abstract:
Dogs have been used alongside humans as detection tools for centuries. There have been a multitude of studies published that demonstrate the accuracy and utility of detection dogs, more specifically conservation scent detection dogs. With ubiquitous agricultural threats in the United States, there is a need for a tool to help decrease the threat level. Pet dogs could be the answer. There are millions of pet dogs in the United States and with the success of the dog sport nose work there is the potential to use pet dogs as detection tools. In this proof-of-concept study, six pet dogs were trained to detect the spotted lanternfly. The dogs completed a training phase and five tests. The mean sensitivity of the six dogs, for the five tests, was 79.75%. The mean PPP of the six dogs, for all five tests, was 66.79%. The results suggest that these six dogs could be beneficial detection tools for the Spotted Lanternfly. Based on the findings in this study, pet dogs could be invaluable in the field of conservation scent detection.

Abstract:
ITC/USA 2005 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-First Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 24-27, 2005 / Riviera Hotel & Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada
While military asset testing and training might be seen as complementary in supporting military prepareness, they cannot complement each other without an effective and efficient method of distributing data laterally across geographically separated data gathering, analysis, and display systems. This cost-effective integration of range data and telemetry resources is critical to ensuring the war worthiness of today’s advanced weapon systems such as the Joint Strike Fighter and the sensor and weapon platforms such as the highly sophisticated unmanned vehicles that are beginning to populate the air, land, and sea areas of operations. To ensure the advantages of range interoperability are available across the DoD Test and Training ranges, a Central Test and Evaluation Program (CTEIP) project has developed and is refining the Test and Training Enabling Architecture (TENA). The core of TENA is the TENA Common Infrastructure, including the TENA Middleware and TENA Repository. The TENA Middleware is the high-performance, real-time, low-latency communication infrastructure used by range instrumentation software and tools during execution of a range event. The TENA Object Model enables semantic interoperability among range resource applications by encoding the information to be communicated among those range applications. It may be seen as a range community-wide set of interface and protocol definitions encapsulated in an object-oriented design. The TENA tools, utilities, and gateways assist the user in creating and managing an integration of range resources, as well as in optimizing the TENA Common Infrastructure. TENA has proven to be a critical enabler of distributed live exercises to include the U.S. Joint Forces Command’s Millennium Challenge 2002, two major Joint National Training Capability exercises in 2004, Cope Thunder 04-02, and Joint Roving Sands/Red Flag 2005. TENA, as integral part of range data systems, has become an important component in the realization of range interoperability.

Abstract:
Accidental behavior chains are a common problem in dog training. Many handlers inadvertently reinforce undesirable behaviors. The behavior analytic literature already contains articles describing methods of breaking chains; however, those methods either are not used in dog training for practical purposes or are ineffective in dog training. This experiment investigated two ways to break a behavior chain, including extending the chain and introducing a delay into the chain. The results of extending the chain showed that it is possible to decrease the target behavior using this method, but it was not eliminated in this study. Adding a delay into the behavior chain resulted in a quick elimination of the target behavior.

Abstract:
The current study investigated the impact of delivering a jackpot on response rate and response allocation in two domestic dogs. For the purpose of this research, a jackpot was defined as a one-time, within-session increase in the magnitude of reinforcement. Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of delivering a jackpot in both single-operant and concurrent schedule procedures. Experiment 1 investigated the impact of a one-time, within-session increase in the magnitude of reinforcement on response rate in a single-operant procedure. Results of Experiment 1 showed no clear change in response rate after the delivery of the jackpot. Experiment 2 investigated the impact of a one-time, within-session increase in the magnitude of reinforcement on response allocation in a concurrent schedule procedure. Results of Experiment 2 showed an increase in response allocation to the jackpotted contingency in both subjects. These results suggest that a jackpot, as defined here, has no effect in single-operant procedures while having an effect in concurrent schedule procedures. These effects are similar to those reported in the magnitude of reinforcement literature.

Horgan, Jane Elizabeth. "Testing the effectiveness and cost-efficiency of livestock guarding dogs in Botswana." Thesis, Rhodes University, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/10962/d1021300.

Full text
Abstract:
Livestock guarding dogs (LSGDs) have been used for centuries to reduce depredation on livestock and more recently, to facilitate the conservation of threatened predator species. Conservation NGOs (non-government organisations) in southern Africa promote the use of Anatolian Shepherds as LSGDs. However, livestock farmers in Botswana have been using a variety of different breeds for this purpose, including the local mixed-breed “Tswana” dogs. Postal, telephonic and face-to-face interview questionnaires were administered to 108 livestock farmers in Botswana to gauge how their LSGDs were being used, in order to determine what factors contributed to the success and affordability of these dogs. Eighty-three percent of farmers had LSGDs which equaled or decreased livestock depredations on their farms, with an average reduction in livestock depredation of 75% per year. This equated to an average saving of US$2,017 annually per farm. The costs of purchasing (average US$27) and maintaining the 198 LSGDs in my study (average US$169/LSGD/year) were very low compared to other countries and helped contribute to the high profits obtained by farmers (average US$1,497/farm or US$789/LSGD). A unique investigation of different breeds was possible due to the diverse array of breeds in the sample (Anatolian Shepherds, Cross Breeds, Tswana dogs, Greyhounds and Pitbulls), with the crossbreed dogs (Crosses and Tswana LSGDs) performing the best. LSGDs that reduced depredation and had minimal behavioural problems were the most likely to incite positive changes in their owners in regards to attitudes towards predators. Sixtysix percent of farmers stated that they were more tolerant of predators since obtaining a LSGD, and 51% reported that they were less likely to kill predators since obtaining a LSGD. My results indicate that successful, well-behaved LSGDs are a cost-effective tool that has the ability to increase farm productivity and improve predator-farmer conflicts in Botswana. The methods recommended in my thesis, in particular the benefits of using local breeds of dog as LSGDs, can be implemented on farming practices the world over to assist farming productivity and to promote conservation efforts.

This dissertation analyzes the theological-political project of the Diocese of Guarapuava in the period within 1965 and 1992, particularly the pastoral actions of D. Frederick D. and Helmel Albano Bortoletto Cavallin. The analytical perspective is situated within the history of education, specifically in Intellectual History, in which the bishops are understood as intellectuals of the religious field, who support the use of religion in their community, and shall strengthen the teaching population education. Specifically, the research objectives are to reconstruct some aspects of the creation and installation of DG and discuss which educational practices the prelates developed to expand and maintain the legitimacy of the Catholic Church among the people of God, emphasizing the historical aspects that show the inclusion of DG in the organizational structure of Catholicism in Brazil, advocated by the Vatican and clergy organizations in Latin America and Brazil. The research is based on Pierre Bourdieu, particularly in the field concepts and strategy as well as in the Book Tombo, Diocesan Bulletin and newspapers from Guarapuava, which allowed us to discuss the political project of DG-pastoral, emphasizing the struggles waged in the religious field, without disregard the relations with other fields of the social world. Under the light of these concepts and the historical sources it can be argued that the installation of the diocese was a strategy of the Catholic Church to defend the Catholicism as a religion of social prestige in the social environment and ensure closer ties between clergy and the people of God. More precisely, the pastoral actions created in DG had a direct relationship with the guidelines coming from the Vatican and with the decisions taken in CNBB, although the prelates of Guarapuava have given peculiar directions to the actions undertaken in DG. Those actions of DG consisted in the creation of Diocesan Bulletin, institutional expansion, foundation of the Diocesan Seminary, Biblical Circles, investment in training of young Catholics, Catechisms and Religious Education in schools, which emphasized a view of the world more concerned with spiritual values, that is, with the Kingdom of God. However, you can also say that DG was involved, although less intense, with social problems, or problems with the world of men, particularly when making complaints and criticisms against the misery and promoting the protection and enhancement of human rights. Therefore, these postures, apparently ambiguous and contradictory, highlight the dilemmas experienced by the prelates of the DG, because they sometimes took a conservative position to defend the traditional precepts of the Catholic Church, sometimes one of progressive character, positioning themselves in defense of social justice.

To ensure range interoperability and range resource reuse are available and promoted across the DoD Test and Training range community, the Central Test and Evaluation Investment Program (CTEIP) has developed and continues to refine the Test and Training Enabling Architecture (TENA). TENA provides the architecture and software implementation to enable range interoperability, to foster range asset reuse, to provide composability, and to enable simulation‐based system engineering/acquisition. TENA has proven to be a critical enabler of major distributed live military exercises but has expanded to embrace other usage. Inclusive of new technologies, TENA developers are actively involved with the integrated Network Enhanced Telemetry (iNET), a CTEIP program which will provide wireless connectivity over which a variety of users will run applications and exchange data.

Abstract:
Unsocialized stray dogs live unrestrained in urban areas, having limited to no direct contact with humans. Aggressive behaviour towards humans leads to their apprehension to shelters, where they tend to stay permanently. This study aimed to determine if unsocialized stray dogs could be rehabilitated and develop the social skills needed for adoption. Six unsocialized stray dogs (Group Stray) and 12 socialized dogs (C1: Control Group 1, n=6; C2: Control Group 2, n=6) housed in a shelter were selected. Stray and C2 dogs went through two training phases: social rehabilitation towards humans and leash training. Sociability towards humans and behaviour on a leash were tested in all groups following Valsecchi et al. (2011). Sociability Tests (ST) and Leash Tests (LT) were conducted before any intervention (ST1), after sociability training (ST2, LT1) and after leash training (ST3, LT2). Training sessions and tests were video recorded and posteriorly analysed by four observers. Results showed that for Stray, but not for C1 and C2, there was a significant increase in sociability from ST1 to ST3. Moreover, for Stray Group there was a significant decrease in the frequency of fear-related behaviours between ST1 and ST3. For leash behaviour, no significant changes were found from LT1 to LT2 for neither group. However, there was considerable individual variation, as not all strays overcame their extreme fear towards humans. These findings suggest that dog–human interactions can be improved through training for dogs who do not show extreme fear and/or aggression towards humans.

Temperament Tests can be a forensic tool as they are often used to clarify legal cases in which dogs were allegedly involved in circumstances of aggression towards humans or other dogs. The test used in this study, the standardized temperament test of Lower Saxony, a battery type test of 36 situations scaled from 1-7 aims to identify those dogs that show disturbed or inadequate aggression at the point of the evaluation. To be able to use this test as a forensic decision making tool it is important to understand if aggressive behaviour shown in the test can be altered through training. The records of all Temperament Tests applied at the Hamburg Shelter since 2006 to 2016, a total of 264 were analysed. From these records, the dogs that were subject to two Temperament Tests were chosen: n= 28 dogs. These dogs had been subject to a first Temperament Test at the Shelter, were trained, and then took a re-test. The 36 situations comprising the test were bundled into 5 sub-groups of situations evaluating similar circumstances and the results of the first and the second temperament test were analysed applying a paired Wilcoxon signed rank test with continuity correction. The training the dogs had been subject to in the meantime was taken into consideration. The average values in two of the five bundles were lower in the second temperament test: in the bundle of situations where the dogs had to interact with threatening humans the average value went from 1.64 in the first test to 1.39 in the second test (P=0.03) and in the bundle of situations of dog-dog contact, the average value went from 1.98 in the first test to 1.53 in the second test (P=0.02). These results suggest that training does have an effect on the aggressive behaviour shown in some test situations. 23/28 dogs, 82,1%, passed the second Temperament Test after being trained at the shelter. Practical implications and future applicability of the test are discussed.
Foram discutidas implicações práticas e a aplicabilidade futura deste teste.

Abstract:
The purpose of this experiment was to compare the effects of combining negative reinforcement and positive reinforcement during teaching with the effects of using positive reinforcement alone. A behavior was trained under two stimulus conditions and procedures. One method involved presenting the cue ven and reinforcing successive approximations to the target behavior. The other method involved presenting the cue punir, physically prompting the target behavior by pulling the leash, and delivering a reinforcer. Three other behaviors were trained using the two cues contingent on their occurrence. The results suggest that stimuli associated with both a positive reinforcer and an aversive stimulus produce a different dynamic than a situation that uses positive reinforcement or punishment alone.

Abstract:
This research evaluates the causes for the failure of DoL training projects to produce a skilled and employable workforce after being trained through the Skills Development Act initiatives. The actual teaching process during training is a focal point in this research, unlike the past Job Placement Verification Studies which ignored this development. The fundamentals of evaluation are discussed with emphasis placed on the purpose of a training programme offered by the DoL. In this study, a qualitative paradigm that in essence entails the systematic noting and recording of events, behaviours and artefacts in the social setting was the design and methodology which underpins my choice of case study and observations. I targeted a particular group in the full knowledge that it does not represent the wider population but simply represented itself, thus I cannot make generalizations from the results. Different theories on programme evaluation, adult learning and learning theories are highlighted and a link between different theories and approaches to training programmes is created. Analysis of data has shown that peripherals and antecedents have been largely ignored by the previous studies, and influenced the actual training programme, trainees and training outcomes adversely. Additionally the enquiry has uncovered several instructional related factors that have contributed to non-delivery. These range from the level of readiness of trainees, the competency of the instructor and adequacy of the learning material to the actual instructional context and learning environment. All revealed that every aspect mentioned has a critical role to play in achieving the training objectives. The research concludes with a brief discussion on recommendations to review the entire process of DoL training programmes. Copyright

Abstract:
Multi-disciplinary Design Optimization highly demands computational resources, therefore it is important to develop design tools with low computational cost without compromising the fidelity of the model. The main goal of this work was to establish a methodology of training artificial neural networks for specific purposes of aircraft aerodynamic design, in order to substitute a computational fluid dynamics software in an optimization framework. This neural network would predict the lift and drag coefficients for an airliner';s wing-fuselage configuration based on its planform, airfoil, and flight condition parameters. This work also aimed to find the structure and the size of the network that best suits this problem, setting up references for future works. The aerodynamic database required for the neural network training was generated with a full-potential multiblock code. The training used the back propagation algorithm, the scaled conjugate gradient algorithm, and the Nguyen-Widrow weight initialization. Networks with different numbers of neurons were evaluated in order to minimize the regression error. The optimum networks reduced the computation time for the calculations of the aerodynamic coefficients in 4000 times when compared with the full-potential code. The average absolute errors obtained were of 0.004 and 0.0005 for lift and drag coefficients, respectively. We also propose an adapted version of the back propagation algorithm that allows the computation of gradients for optimization tasks using the artificial neural networks.

Abstract:
Very few behavior-change programs with canines produce effects that persist beyond the training condition. The present study is an experimental demonstration of a constructional program that established calm patterns of behavior as alternatives to hyperactive ones. Three dogs that exhibited hyperactive patterns were chosen as subjects. Seven conditions common to canine-caretaker relationships were used to determine which factors resulted in the hyperactive patterns. Then, sitting and lying down were taught as beginning points using touch as a reinforcer. The final behavior, maintained by naturally occurring reinforcers, was established errorlessly. The study used a control-analysis strategy of behavior change with a changing-criterion design. The intervention resulted in an immediate reduction in hyperactivity and an increase in sitting and lying down for all dogs.

Abstract:
This study evaluated the effects of programming a variability contingency on one object and the generalization of variability across other objects and contingencies when the defining features of the variable responses were topographical differences. A dog's interactions with five different objects were measured under both ANY (where any physical contact with the object would be reinforced on a fixed ratio schedule) and the VAR contingencies (where only the novel responses per trial would be reinforced). The ANY contingency produced stereotyped responding of behavior with all objects. When one of the dog-object interactions was changed to the VAR contingency, a marked decrease in stereotypic behavior and an increase in novel responses in the form of topographical combinations were observed across both contingencies.

Abstract: Resistance training represents group of means that seeks to the development and maintenance of components of physical fitness related with to the muscle-joint structures, mainly strength and local muscular endurance. The practice of this activity may cause the occurrence of microinjuries in the muscle fibers and delayed onset muscular soreness (DOMS), especially in beginners. During this phase adequate progression of the workload is necessary to avoid lesion or ailment. The present study aimed to compare two methods oftraining in relation to the appearence of creatine kinase (CK) in the bloodstream and DOMS. Differences in these parameters related to the rest periods and alternation of the muscular groups were studied. For the study groups ofUNlCAMP students were used 40 individuaIs were divided into two training groups, one using the multiple set system (MSS) and other performing circuit weight training (CWT). DOMS was evaluated according to the proposal ofTalag (1973) using specific protocol at the first opportunity on the day of training and during the three successive days following the training. Blood measurements were evaluated during the same period. CK levels in the blood were measured by espectrophotometer (Reflotron). ln order to participate in the research, the students previously answered the PAR-Q questionnaire to allow medical direction, weight, height and skinfolds were then measured. AlI the procedures had approval of the research ethics committee of the School of Medical ScienceslUNICAMP and the participants agreed to take part in the activities. After the fonnal consent, tests for individual workloads were applied and the Mann-Withney test was used to compar( the preliminary results from the training. The resuIts showed that CWT is less damaging, pointing to its use in the initial phases of training. In addition, the protocol used suggested a metabolic causal relationship between the exercise and the signs of muscular microinjury

This study investigates the production of a tradition of discourse on the College Dom Feliciano, located in the municipality of Gravataí / RS, through the narratives of teachers and students involved in the teacher education process between the years 1970 to 1990. This research aims to identify and analyze the elements underlying the schools tradition of discourse in the local community, and reflect on the process of teacher training and its relation to the production of this tradition. The research is based on the precepts of Cultural History and uses oral history as a methodology. The concept of tradition, prepared by Hobsbawn and Ranger, is paramount in the review process. Base dont his concept, it seeks to elements that assist in the identification and understanding of the tradition of discourse surrounding the school during the study period. Seeking to investigate the proposed objectives configure up two analytical categories: the identification and analysis of the elements that constitute and underlie the tradition of the school and teacher training. The reports of respondents, it appears that institutional tradition is consolidated in different elements. The tradition of the institution canbe perceived through the school building as a significant element of materiality and the influence of the invention of this tradition, as well as the motivations that led the se students to opt for professional training in this school. As for teacher training, discuss the narratives that help in perceptions and understandings of the characteristics that define the type of training conducted at the institution, which is characterized by the requirement of a vast production of teaching materials, in the subjectmatter as regulatory strategy and regulation, in religious precepts and speech quality of education. The teaching quality of speech is based, above all, discipline, training of teachers and the teaching practices that seek to reconcile the formal know led get ogether with educational teaching of an era.

The objective of this work was to access and understand the teaching social representation (MOSCOVICI, 2005) for the teachers of the children education and fundamental education at Queimadas city, Para?ba. We assume that one representation that allows the teacher to name its profession and to act on it, is a derivative of regularities that are expressed by means of a habitus (BOURDIEU, 1983a), generative matrix of perception and action. This teaching habitus is originated from the experiences and the trajectories of social and professional life of the group. Therefore, from some variables, we tried to access the profile of the group of teachers studied and to get closer of their life style to understand their profession choice and the teaching social representation for this group. In this research, it was used four data sources: a) the questionnaires of characterization; b) the questionnaires of practices and meanings; c) the experience reports and; d) the interviews in depth. The analysis of the data collected was done by means of the simple statistics (frequency), the intersection of variables through cross tables and, the thematic analysis of the contents. The results show that there is a lightly homogeneous group in terms of its social origin and its life style, moreover, they conduct to an overlap between this origin/style and the professional choice. On the other hand, the teacher representation is multi-dimensional such that, all dimensions intercept and articulate with each other to provide a concise teacher representation. They are four dimensions: love and care, help and donation, teaching and learning and, sacrifice and hope. The elements of the teacher representation are substantiated in the schemes of perception and appreciation of the group, in the regularities and life experiences in the context of religion, family, gender and profession. In these regularities we find the elements that comprise the teaching habitus which drives perception and action, representation and daily practice of these teachers. The teaching social representation is still perceived as a threshold for the professional identity of the group of teachers considered. We also observed that there are signs of changes in the practices used by these professionals since they graduate from the course of pedagogy. However, it is not possible to say that these changes are isolated or they lead to a transformation in the teaching habitus or the teaching social representation

Abstract:
The present research try to demonstrate that a business model like a Club Spa for dogs have identified an unmet need in the current market. There are also growing trends in both, dog market and the technology market, which makes even more sense in the develop of this Spa Club for dog son. This Club Spa focused exclusively for dogs, manages to differentiate itself from any other similar business with clear positioning, which is fun and safety for dog son. The idea is to have a place where different types of services can be offered, from the most usual ones such as: cutting, bathing and veterinary care as well as other different services that are a recreational place with recreational games and small swimming pools but also we can offer training, relaxation and matching services for their dog. All this supported by an App that we will develop where the owner can see online what his son is doing in the Club Spa, but he will also be able to add a service that has not been included in a start or any type of extra food that he wants for his dog son and also can interact with our brand, even being able to contact other users in case you want to match your dog son. The financial evaluation made in this research show intereseting results, such as a positive NPV (Net present Value) of S/. 1.7 millions and IRR (internal rate of return) of 87% and the recovery period is almost 2 years. This research, also shows us that it is a viable and profitable Project that takes advantage of the growing trend of the market due to the care and concern of their canine son.

When we turn our attention to education we realize that many challenges need to be overcome, among them: problems in the initial formation of the teacher, the higher valorization of the baccalaureate to the detriment of the degrees, the devaluation of the teacher in the social and economic scope, the distance between the University and the School, dichotomy between theory and practice. We then perceive that the initial formation of the future teacher, as well as the continuing and in-service training, is of the utmost importance. For this reason, the incentive of programs such as the Institutional Scholarship Program (PIBID) can help these students, future education professionals, to face with greater certainty the challenges posed by contemporary education within the real need of the school, where problems are common to all who are part of it. In this context, this paper aims to analyze how PIBID influences the training of students of the Geography course of the Multidisciplinary Institute of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro.

The traditional ways of conceiving knowledge are reinvigorating the discussion on interdisciplinary curriculum and active methods in teaching and learning. Digital technologies are highlighted in this context, expanding around the virtual culture. The objective of this research was to investigate how teachers in a university in the state of S??o Paulo are using digital media in their classes. For this purpose, we performed an exploratory and qualitative research. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. It was found that new technologies are present in the classroom, however, have not provided major advances to traditional teaching methods, because, as a tool for pedagogical mediation, are still not sufficiently assimilated by teachers. Digital technologies have not yet optimized the process of teaching and learning, effectively approaching the student and teaching contents. The acquisition and manipulation of information through new technologies alone are not sufficient, as technique by technique does not ensure the optimization of the process of knowledge construction by students. The intervention by the educator is crucial in view of creating a link between the life experiences of students and academic content. For the integration of new technologies in teaching practice is effective and consistent with the current curriculum guidelines, it is necessary a policy of continuous training in order to provide not only a technical mastery of each technology or software and its capabilities, but also a pedagogical mastery and how these tools can be used in the classroom to create conditions of its effective use in the higher education institutions. These organizational and operational conditions involve both logistics (equipment, maintenance, space, condition of access by teachers and students) as formative processes of educators to guide their use and help detecting problems and opportunities for innovation. It follows therefore that the gains in student learning are related to familiarity with digital technologies and the trust regarding their use in the classroom. Regardless to the generation that the teacher belongs and the technological context in which he lived, he is able to learn and deal with the new, being enough that he is open to learning and find in the higher education institutions support to their experiences and the opportunity to develop their skills in the use of new technologies.

This text, written during a research developed in the Graduate Program in Education at the UnivesidadeEstadual de Feira de Santana - Bahia, aims to understandthe contribution of the Teaching Internship for pedagogic training of teachers of Higher Educationthrough the representations of students of the Community Health Master. It was certified that the curricular component Teaching Internship is an important education environment of the future university professor, locus in which students of the Graduate Program strictosensuacquire some of the knowledge needed for teaching practice. However, it is worth noting that teaching learning extends throughout one?s whole career. To achieve the established objective, we conducted a descriptive qualitative research, which was based on principles of the Social Representations Theory ? SRT (MOSCOVICI, 2003a, 2003b; JODELET, 1989, 2001 e 2007). Regarding the production of data, it was held a documentary analysis(TRIVI?OS, 1987) of the regiment and of the pedagogic proposal of the Graduate Community Health Program at UEFS. It was also used semi structured interviews (MINAYO, 2006), which were carried out with 12 students from the Academic Master of the aforementioned Program. In order to analyze the data produced in the research some principles of Content Analysis(BARDIN, 2011) were used. In the discussion of the data produced five categories were identified, as follows: the first refers to the concept of teaching internship; in the second, the knowledge necessary for university teaching is discussed; in the third was verified which were the contributions of the internship to university teaching; in the fourth the process of the Teaching Internship experience was described and, finally, in the fifth category, where suggestions to improve the experience of Teaching Internship were presented by our contributors. The main conclusions of this research focus that the internship contributes to the preparation of graduate students for university teaching and for the development of teacher identity. Moreover, it contributes to this preparation for the acquisition of knowledge of the reality of university classroom, for the exchange of knowledge with the experienced teacher and, finally, for the perception of the master students on the human condition of the teaching profession and the humanization in the relationships that occur in the educational context. In addition to these contributions, our contributors address the need for the Community Health Program not prioritizing specific studies and research training at the expense of teacher training, given the complexity of teaching today, which requires special attention.Participants also emphasized the prevalence of the following difficulties during the Teaching Internship experience: the absence of an effective interaction between the Undergraduate and Graduate programs, structural and political problems that damaged the internship. In addition to this, the students had difficulties in understanding the importance of courses in their training, didactic and pedagogical difficulties of interns to conduct the courses and embarrassments of master students to assess and deal with the graduate students taking the course again after failing. Furthermore, our study confirmed the need to implement institutional policies for the formation of the university teacher, especially with beginning teachers who are in a period of adaptation and professional learning and also with experienced teachers to reflect on their teachingpractices continuously so they can update and innovate their practices.

Abstract:
A gifted child is a being with potential "superior", which are not implemented, but are at your fingertips. It behooves us to education professionals, learn to educate them and guide them always in the direction of maximum development of this potential. This study aims to raise awareness of teachers to the issue of giftedness, contributing to a better understanding of the characteristics and needs of gifted children and young people of school age. It is also intended with this paper to contribute to increased knowledge about the topic in question, and in particular for seeking educational solutions more suited to the characteristics and needs of these children. As this research a case study, includes, in addition to the population constituted by the faculty of the island of S. Miguel (including the professor's class of gifted students), the guardians of the child in question. Given that, with regard to this issue, sometimes the doubts persist, seek to emphasize some aspects of theoretical, insisting on the definition of concepts with operational value, likely to contribute to the development of an educational intervention more effective. Then follows the articulation of the results with the scientific literature in order to confirm the assumptions made initially and get new leads, liable to be investigated in the future.

The present study aimed to analyze the role of language in its highest psychological function in mediating the formation of indigenous teaching process, seeking to understand their influence on the way of being and acting of individuals and the processing and maintenance of culture. Through the indicators of meaning, we seek to understand the aspects involved in training for the teaching that takes place mainly with non-native teachers, using the English language as a mediator of the process. This study is located within the School Psychology spectrum, and adopted as a theoretical and methodological contribution to Historic-Cultural Psychology, whose main representative Vigotski. The context researched was from the Course Teaching Indigenous Tam?'kan in the State of Roraima, and the form of construction of the information with the students in classroom were observed and semi- structured interviews with 10 students of the course, subjects in this study and three interviews with three leaders of the course in question, which we call informants . The process that analyzing elects contextual clipping that participants tall about experience as a guiding principle of our postulations and focusing on family, school life, training in teaching of professional activities. The results indicate positive meaning about teaching profession and the great appreciation of teachers who are committed and able to transform the reality they experience in educational communities as well as community action and themselves. As a result, it was found that the settings of meanings about teaching are forged by numerous contradictions experienced by students from an early age, embracing the influence of history and cultures that permeate their experiences and life. These contradictions descends from attribution that indigenous community and society give the teachers on the one hand, and the community and society they collect of these same professionals on the other hand, such as knowing different themes; remain committed to their communities, to have mastery of the indigenous language and strive for building habits and universal behavior.
