Abstract:
Regional short stories in translation have always been a pasture of research in the field of English literature. It opens a vista of information, debate and discussion on the cultural and social crisis faced by the people lying hidden in the smaller pockets of our country. Jammu region is embedded with a rich heritage of Dogri language with an idiosyncratic regional flavour of its folk-tales and short-stories. Translation of Dogri works into other languages has helped the readers in the country and across borders, to peruse the social and cultural milieu of Jammu region. This paper critically examines the Dogri short story “Caretaker” by Padma Sachdev which reveals the agony, insecurities and position of Dogra women in the male-dominated society.
 In the earlier Dogra society, women suffered at the hands of complex social‑cultural norms, rituals and patriarchal models of suppression. They were often forced into ill‑matched marriages and dohri (reciprocal marriages). Further, they were expected to become obedient wives to their husbands while their own identity got submerged under the burden of family responsibilities, catering to husband needs and rearing children. They often longed for a “home” of their own blessed with love and respect. However, the marital home failed to provide them this blessed home and the parental home became alien to them after marriage. The relationship between husband and wife seems like that of an orient and the occident as man becomes the agent of power, domination and male-centric prejudices against woman. On the other hand, woman acts as an orient who suffers from the societal prejudices for misinterpreted identity and enslavement for her social-cultural representation. As Simone de Beauvoir in her book, The Second Sex analyzes that man fundamentally tries to oppress women by characterizing them as the ‘Other’. Men impose his will on the other and women are cursed with the feelings of inwardness and suppressed voices. “[Man] attaches himself to woman –not to enjoy her, but to enjoy himself.” Hence, Padma Sachdev tries to echo a critical view of the patriarchal social institutions, which subjugate women’s identity for the gains of male supremacy. She also focuses on an unsaid bonding between women as they can sense the misery of each other. They may get corrupted by the feeling of insecurity at some point of time but soon they reconcile as they realise the pain of the other.

Abstract:
The present paper aims to discuss the phonological processes including whole segment processes occurring in Dogri. It serves an introduction to the types of phonological processes and present examples from Dogri words exhibiting these processes and phenomena. The objective of the present work is to present a complete classification of different phonological processes in Dogri, explore these processes in detail and to acquaint students and researchers with the changes in the sound structure because of the whole segment processes. The earlier linguistic literature on Dogri mentions that various whole segment processes such as gemination, nasalization, addition, deletion, metathesis, substitution, and assimilation were prevalent in Dogri. Moreover, gemination and nasalization is phonemic in Dogri. It has been found that in certain lexical items, transposition of sounds takes place that is one sound is moved next to the adjacent sound and that in turn is replaced by the former sound. In sum, Dogri has been found to make use of a wide variety of the phonological processes. The work employs exploratory research design with thrust on qualitative method involving interpretative approach towards the data. The finding of the research presents a good amount of whole segment and phonological type phonological processes in Dogri lexical items. The study makes students and researchers acquainted with different phonological processes in words and the data serves as a documented record for future researchers and linguists.

The objective behind this paper is to analyze the English-Dogri parallel corpus translation. Machine translation is the translation from one language into another language. Machine translation is the biggest application of the Natural Language Processing (NLP). Moses is statistical machine translation system allow to train translation models for any language pair. We have developed translation system using Statistical based approach which helps in translating English to Dogri and vice versa. The parallel corpus consists of 98,973 sentences. The system gives accuracy of 80% in translating English to Dogri and the system gives accuracy of 87% in translating Dogri to English system.

La tesi si propone di approfondire diversi aspetti del bizantinismo veneziano, vale a dire la propensione di Venezia, tra il IX e il XII secolo, ad accogliere forme del cerimoniale, delle istituzioni e della cultura legate al modello bizantino. Particolare attenzione viene rivolta alla corte ducale e alla figura del doge. La tesi è divisa in tre parti. Nella prima viene analizzato lo sviluppo dei contatti politico-militari tra Bisanzio e Venezia dall’età dei Particiaci fino al loro insanabile deterioramento all’inizio del XIII secolo. Nella seconda parte ci si concentra su quegli aspetti della figura ducale che più risentono dell’influenza bizantina: dalla coreggenza, alla concessione di titoli aulici, alle cerimonie di incoronazione, fino ad indagare l’origine stessa delle insegne ducali e degli abiti indossati dai dogi e dagli altri membri della corte. Alla luce di tale analisi, nella terza parte si intende dimostrare che l’eredità bizantina, nonostante la turbolenza dei rapporti della Repubblica con l’impero, rimase sempre ben consolidata, non solo e non tanto tra i minores della popolazione di Venezia, quanto soprattutto nella sua classe dirigente che la sfruttò in varie iniziative di natura politica e in particolare nei modi della propaganda.

Este processo apresenta um indisfarçável viés hermenêutico e demanda processos cognitivos, uma vez que consiste na atribuição de novos significados à ideia do compositor, os quais, por sua vez, devem ser anteriormente percebidos e (re)conhecidos pelo arranjador. Nessa perspectiva, proponho que o arranjo musical deve ser tomando em sua acepção mais genérica, antes de tudo, como uma forma de interpretação musical e será tão mais original quanto o arranjador, na qualidade de intérprete, conseguir distanciar-se da forma primeva elaborada pelo compositor, sem, no entanto, descaracterizá-la. A partir da análise do trabalho do músico Dori Caymmi como arranjador afirmo que, no universo da música popular, a elaboração do arranjo de uma canção é atividade eminentemente interpretativa e espera-se que o arranjador expresse uma perspectiva estritamente pessoal da obra musical, por sua natureza, distinta da forma original. Essa proposição será iniciada com a definição de alguns conceitos como significação musical, interpretação e ressignificação. A seguir exemplifica-se a proposta de ressignificação mediante a comparação entre os arranjos originais da canção “Cinema Paradiso”, de Ennio Morricone, e da “Aquarela do Brasil” de Ary Barroso, elaborado por Radamés Gnattali, e a interpretação das mesmas obras musicais por Dori Caymmi, atestando a viabilidade dessa hipótese.<br>In this dissertation, I propose a hypothesis that the arrangement in popular music, requires a redefinition of the initial work. This process has as undisguised hermeneutic bias and demands cognitive processes, since it consists of the attribution of new meanings to the composer's idea, which, in turn, must be previously perceived and understood by the arranger. In this perspective, I propose that musical arrangement must be taking your meaning as more generic, before all, as a form of musical interpretation and will be more original as the arranger, interpreter of quality, distancing themselves from the composer’s original form, without, however, it changing its characteristics. From the analysis of the musician Dori Caymmi’s Works as an arranger, I believe that the world of popular music, the elaboration of the arrangement of a song is mainly an interpretative activity and it is expected that the arranger will express a personal perspective of the musical work, intrinsically different from the original form. This proposition will be initiated with the definition of some concepts, such as musical meaning, interpretation and reinterpretation. The following proposal of reinterpretation for a comparison between the original arrangements of the song "Cinema Paradiso" by Ennio Morricone, and “Aquarela do Brazil” by Ary Barroso, prepared by Radames Gnattali, and interpretation of the same musical works by Dori Caymmi, confirming the viability of this hypothesis.

Il bizzarro romanzo “Dogra Magra” (1935) è considerato in patria apice della produzione letteraria di Yumeno Kyūsaku (1889-1936), autore eccentrico collocabile nella corrente tantei shōsetsu a cavallo tra gli anni ‘20 e ‘30 del Novecento. Con questa tesi ci si pone il compito di presentare il romanzo in alcuni dei suoi possibili risvolti politici e psicanalitici attraverso un esame dei principali apporti critici che hanno accompagnato l’opera fin dalla pubblicazione. Nel tentativo di dare piena giustizia alla carica eversiva e altamente originale del testo verranno prese in considerazione letture in chiave anti-autoritaria, femminista e colonialista; nel contempo, verrà approfondito il complesso incontro di temi psichiatrici e psicanalitici all’interno del romanzo. L'analisi parte da considerazioni riguardanti interpretazioni autoctone dell'opera dell'autore: essa fu ignorata per quasi trent'anni in patria, venendo inquadrata all'interno del genere marginale dello henkaku tantei shōsetsu, ma fu poi riscoperta negli anni Sessanta da un gruppo di critici associati agli ambienti controculturali delle proteste per il rinnovo del trattato di sicurezza nippo-americano. Le critiche di questi anni concernenti il romanzo si concentrarono su temi prevalentemente politici, influenzando con il loro approccio gran parte degli sforzi interpretativi compiuti successivamente in Giappone. La seconda parte della tesi si concentra invece su interpretazioni più recenti, elaborate da studiosi e accademici occidentali; essi sottolineano la presenza nell'opera di tematiche psicanalitiche, elementi di critica al sistema istituzionale della psichiatria e legami con il discorso imperialista del Giappone dell'epoca. Con l'analisi di questi due filoni interpretativi conto di dare un'immagine sufficientemente definita del discorso critico avvenuto intorno all'opera e di poter fornire una sintetica presentazione e introduzione al romanzo, sfortunatamente ancora poco conosciuto in Occidente.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to create a performance guide for Young-Jo Lee's violin works, Honza Nori for solo violin and Doori Nori for violin and piano, and to introduce his work to a wider audience. This study contains a biography of the composer and a compositional analysis that shows how Lee includes the concepts and techniques of Korean traditional music in his violin pieces. In this analysis, I will identify the composer's characteristic style, inspired by Korean compositional techniques, traditional Korean instruments and their characteristics. Additionally, the incorporation of Asian philosophy, and Taoism in particular, into Lee's music will be examined and cited throughout, demonstrating how Lee employs these ideas to create compositional techniques that differ from other twentieth century Asian composers. Lee is one of the most significant Korean composers living today and is known for combining Eastern and Western musical styles. He utilizes the core of Korean traditional music and performance practice and applies this to his compositions in a distinctive style that amalgamates both Western and Eastern (particularly Korean) musical traditions. Lee creates a balance between his native heritage and his knowledge of Western traditions, and he extracts his distinctive compositional ideas from various genres of Korean music, such as court royal music, traditional folk music, harvest music, Pansori, Samul nori, and Korean zither music. Lee is also interested in Western compositional techniques such as twelve-tone technique and chromaticism, which he combines with his knowledge of Korean traditional music and its techniques to create various works in a unique and distinctive fashion.

Abstract:
Diferentemente das linhas adotadas por um bom número de trabalhos em Estudos da Tradução que têm por objetivo uma análise crítica de tradução ou uma tradução comentada, nosso projeto busca tratar a tradução, mais especificamente a tradução literária, não como um objeto em si, mas como parte integrante do processo de construção de uma obra. Para tanto, nosso pressuposto é a noção aristotélica de ato e potência. A nosso ver, a gênese da tradução literária, como potência, coincide com o início da escritura da obra, como ato, ou seja, a tradução literária é inerente à obra em estado virtual, como um ser em devir, podendo ou não vir a se materializar como obra traduzida. Sob essa ótica, acreditamos que toda e qualquer análise de tradução literária envolva um mergulho não apenas no contexto de sua produção e em seu produto final, mas também nos elementos que envolvem a produção da obra de partida. Baseando-nos nas noções de Dominique Maingueneu (2001) a respeito do contexto da obra literária e no alicerce linguístico em enunciação oferecido por Émile Benveniste (1976), pudemos associá-los a outras importantes contribuições, como os conceitos de posição tradutória, projeto de tradução e horizonte do tradutor propostos por Antoine Berman (1995) que, se observados relacionalmente dentro de cada espaço de negociação que constitui todo processo tradutório em suas diversas etapas, pressupõem necessariamente uma esfera ética. Ao adotarmos a noção proposta por Maurício Mendonça Cardozo (2007), baseando-se em Henrique C. de Lima Vaz (2015), que traz o conceito da palavra ética originalmente como lugar, podemos entendê-la como sendo a consciência da posição que se ocupa em uma dada relação o lugar de onde se fala e para quem se fala , oferecendo, assim, campo fértil para pensarmos efetivamente a ética da tradução como práxis e projetá-la em termos bermanianos. Sob esse arcabouço teórico, a questão das posições enunciativas emerge de maneira fundamentada para uma análise do caso específico da tradução Fires (1981), por Dori Katz, a partir da obra Feux (1936), de Marguerite Yourcenar, em que diversas são as variáveis, que não a relação isolada entre tradutor e texto de partida. Em Feux-Fires, aquilo que chamaremos de uma espiral de posições enunciativas compõe um quadro bastante particular em tradução literária.<br>Unlike the line adopted by many works in Translations Studies whose purpose are translations critical analysis or commented translations, our project aims at approaching translation, and more specifically literary translation, not as an object in itself, but as an integral part of the building process of a literary work. Assuming Aristotles concept of potency and act, in our view, the genesis of literary translation, as potency, coincides with the beginning of the literary works writing, as an act, i.e. , the literary translation is inherent to the literary work in a virtual state, as a being to be, whether it is eventually materialized as a translated literary work or not. From this perspective, we believe that each and every analysis of literary translation involves not only jumping into its context of production and its final product, but also into the elements surrounding the production of the source work. Based on the notions of Dominique Maingueneau (2001) about the context of the literary work and on the linguistic grounds offered by Émile Benveniste (1976), we managed to associate them to other important contributions, such as the concepts of translational position, translation project, and horizon of translation proposed by Antoine Berman (1995), which necessarily assume an ethical domain if regarded in a relational perspective within every negotiation space that constitutes each translation project in its many phases. By adopting the notion proposed by Maurício Mendonça Cardozo (2007) based on Henrique C. de Lima Vaz (1999), who presents the concept of the word ethics originally as a place, it may be understood as the awareness of the position one holds in a given relation the place where one speaks from and to whom , thus offering fertile ground for ethics in translation to be effectively viewed as praxis and to be projected in bermanian terms. Under this theoretical framework, the question of enunciative positions emerges in a well-founded way for an analysis of the particular case of the translation Fires (1981), by Dori Katz, of the work Feux (1936), byMarguerite Yourcenar, in which many are the variables, other than the isolated relation between the translator and the source text. In Feux-Fires, what we call a spiral of enunciative positions compose a very specific scenario in literary translation.

Abstract:
Korean composer Young Jo Lee (b.1943) is considered a precursor of Korean fusion music. In his works, he interlaces elements of traditional Korean music with compositional styles and performances techniques from western musical traditions. This dissertation provides an analysis of Lee's Dodri for Cello and Janggo (1995), one of his most representative works of fusion music. As indicated by the title Dodri (which in Korean means a "movement back and forth"), Lee intended to showcase a friendly interplay of the janggo and the cello, with each instrument playing a leading role that helps bring out the essence of traditional Korean traditional music. In this piece, Lee writes a number of melodies and uses traditional Korean performance techniques for the cello intended to imitate the sound and sentiments of traditional Korean instruments, all while preserving its inherent nature. This kind of fusion, where different musical elements are merged with each other but remain separate enough to maintain their own uniqueness, is significant to Lee's philosophy. This dissertation also describes Lee's efforts to preserve the integrity of traditional Korean music within fusion music and lend new insights regarding traditional Korean musical practice to musicologists, composers, and audiences. Furthermore, this study is intended to serve as a performer's guide for professional cellists new to Lee's music so they may approach Dodri with a greater understanding of the composer's original intentions when first learning the work.

Abstract:
Geothermal energy is the heat energy stored in the subsurface of the Earth due to the decay of radioactive elements within the mantle and the crust (Schubert et al., 1980). This energy is continuously produced, making it a sustainable and renewable energy source (Owusu and Asumadu-Sarkodie, 2016). One of the key advantages of geothermal energy is its capacity to provide baseload power that can be run constantly to fulfill the energy demands of any society, making it a dependable and persistent source of energy. Unlike other renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, geothermal energy, it is not affected by weather or daylight and can supply a consistent source of electricity day and night. Saudi Arabia possesses significant geothermal resources along of western boundary for both volcanic and non-volcanic geothermal systems (Chandrasekharam et al., 2014; Lashin et al., 2014; Al-Douri et al.,2019; Abu-Mahfouz et al., 2023). One of the potential geothermal areas is in Jizan, Southwestern Saudi Arabia (Hussein et al., 2013; Chandrasekharam et al., 2016; Arrofi and Abu-Mahfouz, 2023). Despite the fact that Jizan has a medium-high enthalpy system, it is largely underutilized. One of the most prevalent challenges encountered during exploitation is a low permeability reservoir to allow fluid circulation. However, it can be addressed by undertaking a detailed study of characterizing natural fractures both in the surface and subsurface. Natural fractures might enhance fluid circulation and permeability, making geothermal extraction a more viable option (Arrofi et al., 2022; Viswanathan et al., 2022; Abu-Mahfouz et al., 2023). It is crucial to investigate the distribution, orientation, and connectivity of fractures in geothermal systems. In the Al-Ardah geothermal field, located in Jizan, hydrothermal fluid is believed to flow from the eastern region, following the dip direction of the regional faults, and discharge on the western side (Arrofi et al., 2023). The reservoir area is indicated to be in the eastern region of Al-Ardah within the granitic rock (Fig. 1). Additionally, the granitic rock in the Al-Ardah area had undergone significant alteration due to intense interaction with the thermal water (Lashin and Al Arifi, 2014). It also suggests that the reservoir is located in the eastern part of the hot springs area. This study aims to characterize fractures and investigate fluid flow in the eastern part of Al-Ardah, Jizan, using an outcrop analogue (see the study location in Fig. 1).
