Abstract:
Kronolojik tarihsellik i

This article surveys Xenophon’s evidence for Socrates’ views on democracy. It offers a more balanced and complete reading of the evidence in Xenophon’s Memorabilia, and takes account of new ways to assess the definition of what is democratic. It argues that Xenophon’s basic image of Socrates is democratic (dēmotikos) in the broadest sense through an investigation of topics such as Socrates’ attitudes towards democratic laws, and the use of dokimasia and the ballot, as well as his views on oligarchic and democratic regimes of his time, the ‘royal art’ of rule, the assembly and its decisions, an

Abstract:
The article examines speech XXIV by Athenian orator Lysias “On the Refusal of a Pension” (V–IV c. BCE) This text provides not only an excellent example of a legal speech written by a renowned Attic orator but also invaluable material for the study of social policy of Athenian democracy, namely — adaptation and survival of people with disabilities in the ancient Greek polis. The author of the article agrees with those researchers who have no doubts concerning the authorship of the speech and its intention to be delivered during the litigation on dokimasia of “infirm” people in the Council 500.

Abstract:
Corruption, as one of the most persistent social pathologies, has accompanied humanity since the emergence of the first civilizations. It arose alongside the development of social hierarchies, administrative governance, and resource distribution, becoming an integral part of the relationship between authority and society. In ancient states, corrupt practices were so prevalent that many scholars consider them a systemic factor influencing the evolution of political and legal institutions. In the antiquity era, corruption posed a significant threat to the stability of societies and the efficienc

Abstract:
Abstract Lysias 26 is an attack on a man named Euandros, written to be delivered at his dokimasia (the scrutiny which all incoming public officials had to undergo before being allowed to take up office). The speech is addressed to the boule or council(§ 21), and the office to which he has been allocated (though see further below) is that of Ark/um. We know from Ath. Pol. 55. 2 that each of the nine arkhons had to face a double dokimasia, before the boule and then in front of a lawcourt; and although the details of this twofold process are in some respects obscure (for the various controversies
