Abstract:

Thesis bearing the name ?Boarders of Contemporary Documentary Photography? is focused on specific development, which underwent foreign documentary photography for about last two decades. The work is divided into three separate chapters, each of them deals with a different topic. The first chapter deals with the process of integration of documentary photography in an artistic context. The following chapter provides detailed reports on a new trend in documentary photography, which is called conceptual documentary photography. The third part is devoted to the remarkable personality of contemporary documentary photography - Allan Sekula. His photographic and closely related theoretical work is so specific that it is allocated a separate area.

Abstract:

I dagens förskola utförs dokumentation dagligen och är enligt Läroplan för förskolan (Lpfö 98/2010) en viktig praktik då den bör användas för utvärdering av såväl förskolans verksamhet som barns utveckling och lärande. Om hur dokumentation ska gå till finns det mycket att läsa, men vi intresserar oss för vad som påverkar själva dokumentationspraktiken. Inom ramen för denna studie vill vi undersöka dokumentationspraktiken på en förskola, alltså när det dokumenteras, vad som dokumenteras, hur det dokumenteras samt varför dokumentationen sker på ett specifikt sätt. Undersökningen som utförts i denna kvalitativa studie har, genom observationer och intervjuer haft syftet att ta reda på vilka föreställningar och värden som ligger bakom dokumentationen och varför dessa anses viktiga. Hur påverkar granskningssamhället förutsättningarna för dokumentation i förskolan? Vi intresserar oss också för vad som inte fastnar på kameralinsen, då även det kan säga något om vad som anses värdefullt nog att dokumentera.Vi frågar oss också huruvida granskningssamhället vi lever i, som beskrivs av Ahlbäck Öberg (2010) och Power (1999), påverkar förskolans verksamhet kring dokumentation och de pedagoger som utför den. Undersökningen visar hur krav och press på pedagoger leder till ett granskningsbart beteende där pedagoger utför dokumentation som "utifrån och uppifrån" kan uppfattas som "bra", exempelvis glada barn och fina samspel. Dessa förutsättningar kan påverka pedagogerna i sina föreställningar, värden och aktiva val kring dokumentation.

Abstract:

Sudoku är ett mycket populärt pusselspel som härstammar från Japan. Sudokuproblemet har visats vara NP-fullständigt och det finns därför troligen inget effektivt sätt att lösa stora pussel. På senare år har det skett mycket forskning kring SAT-lösare. I denna rapport prövades olika SAT-lösare från ”International SAT-Competition” för att undersöka om det existerar en korrelation mellan exekveringstid och svårighetsgradering samt för att avgöra vilken av dessa som är effektivast för att lösa pussel av olika svårighetsgrad och storlek. För att undersöka detta genereradesett stort antal pussel och två tester utfördes. Ett test mätteexekveringstiden för olika SAT-lösare på pussel av olika svårighetsgrad.Det andra testet mätte tiden för SAT-lösarna på pussel av olika storlek.De prövade SAT-lösarna är Glucose, Lingeling, Minisat, Plingeling,Treengeling och Zenn.Resultaten visar på en korrelation mellan exekveringstid och svårighetsgradför de prövade SAT-lösarna när ett genomsnitt för lösarnabehandlades. Vid ett linjärt regressionstest erhölls en bestämningskoefficentpå ca 0.8. Vissa lösare hade en stor korrelation och andra lösarevisade inte någon korrelation alls. Korrelationen skulle också kunna beropå skillnaden i antalet ledtrådar mellan de olika pusslena. Det förklarardock inte den skillnad som finns mellan pussel av olika svårighetsgradmed samma antal ledtrådar.Genomsnittstiden för samtliga lösare var ca 20 ms för pussel avordning tre och ca 50 s för pussel av ordning nio. Av de prövade SATlösarnavar Minisat snabbast, både för pusslena av ordning tre och avhögre ordningar.
Sudoku is a popular puzzle game that originates from Japan. The Sudokuproblem has been shown to be NP-complete and therefore thereprobably does not exist an effecient way of solving large puzzles. In recentyears there has been a lot of research into solving the SAT problem.This report examined various SAT solvers from “The International SATCompetition” to investigate whether there exists a correlation betweenthe execution time and the difficulty level of puzzles and to determinewhich of these are most effective for solving puzzles of varying difficultyand size. To examine the above a large number of puzzles were generatedand two tests were performed. One test measured the executiontime of various SAT solvers when solving puzzles of varying difficulty.The second test measured the time that the SAT solvers took to solvepuzzles of different sizes. The tested SAT solvers are Glucose, Lingling,Minisat, Plingeling, Treengeling and Zenn.The results show a correlation between the execution time of theSAT solvers and the difficulty of the puzzles when looking at the averagetime of the solvers. A linear regression test gave a coefficent ofdetermination of approximately 0.8. Some solvers had a significant correlationand other solvers showed almost no correlation at all. Thecorrelation could also be attributed to the difference in the number ofclues between the puzzles. This however does not explain the disparitybetween puzzles of varying difficulty with the same number of clues.The average time for all solvers were approximately 20 ms for puzzlesof order three and about 50 s for puzzles of order nine. Of the testedSAT solvers, Minisat was the fastest at solving both the puzzles of orderthree and puzzles of higher order.

Abstract:

Next-generation sequencing technology provides high-resolution data for epidemiological surveillance of bacterial pathogens on local and global scales. This approach has been used for many species including Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). In this thesis I demonstrate the utility of these data for understanding the spread of the globally disseminated clone MRSA ST239. I focus both on local and national-level epidemiology through sequence data of 71 isolates recovered from four hospitals representing three cities in Turkey; Istanbul (x2). Ankara and Izmir. I analyse whole genome sequence data from a further 33 ST239 isolates from global sources. These data were combined with previously published data for phylogenetic analysis based only on the core genome. I demonstrate how transmission events can be inferred from this approach on multiple levels; within hospital, between hospitals and between countries. The data pointed to a European origin of ST239, and independent introductions from Europe to Turkey, South America and East Asia. I also demonstrate how whole genome sequence data can be used to develop bespoke PCR assays, based on phage variation, for rapid local epidemiology. Finally, I consider how the sequence data might be used to explain variation in virulence potential, and describe the distribution and transfer of an important phage-borne virulence determinant, sasX, within Europe. Finally, I identified a single isolate with very strong biofilm forming ability likely due to the over-expression of the important adhesion SasG.

Abstract:

Disertacija se se bavi analizom mogućnosti brze, efikasnei pouzdane klasterizacije masivnog skupa neuralnihsnimaka na osnovu probabilističkih parametara procenjenihiz obrazaca generisanja akcionih potencijala, tzv."spajkova", na izlazu pojedinih neurona. Neuralnaaktivnost se grubo može podeliti na periode intezivne,umerene i niske aktivnosti. Shodno tome, predložena jegruba dekompozicija neuralne aktivnosti na tri moda kojaodgovaraju navedenim obrascima neuralne aktivnosti, naosnovu dobro poznatog Gilbert-Eliot modela. Modovi sudodatno raščlanjeni na sopstvena stanja na osnovu osobina sukcesivnih spajkova, omogućujući finiji, kompozitniopis neuralne aktivnosti. Za svaki neuron empirijski seprocenjuju probabilistički parametri grube dekompozicije- na osnovu Gilbert-Eliotovog modela i finije dekompozicije- na osnovu sopstvenih stanja modova, obezbeđujućiželjeni skup deskriptora. Dobijeni deskriptorikoriste se kao obeležja nekoliko algoritama klasterizacijenad simuliranim i eksperimentalnim podacima. Za generisanjesimuliranih podataka primenjen je jednostavanmodel za generisanje akcionih potencijala različitihoscilatornih ponašanja pobuđujućih i blokirajućih kortikalnihneurona. Validacija primene probabilističkih parametaraza klasterizaciju rada neurona izvršena je naosnovu estimacije parametera nad generisanim neuralnimodzivima. Eksperimentalni podaci su dobijenisnimanjem kortikografskih signala iz dorzalnog anteriornogcingularanog korteksa i lateralnog prefrontalnogkorteksa korteksa budnih rezus majmuna. U okviru predloženogprotokola evaluacije različitih pristupaklasterizacije testirano je nekoliko metoda. Klasterizacijazasnovana na akumulaciji dokaza iz ansambla particijadobijenih k-means klasterovanjem dala je najstabilnijegrupisanje neuralnih jedinica uz brzu i efikasnu implementaciju.Predložena empirijska karakterizacija može daposluži za identifikaciju korelacije sa spoljašnjim stimulusima,akcijama i ponašanjem životinja u okvirueksperimentalne procedure. Prednosti ovog postupka zaopis neuralne aktivnosti su brza estimacija i mali skupdeskriptora. Računarska efikasnost omogućuje primenunad obimnim, paralelno snimanim neuralnim podacima utoku snimanja ili u periodima od interesa za identifikacijuaktiviranih i povezanih zona pri određenim aktivnostima.
The advances in extracellular neural recording techniquesresult in big data volumes that necessitate fast,reliable, and automatic identification of statisticallysimilar units. This study proposes a single frameworkyielding a compact set of probabilistic descriptors thatcharacterise the firing patterns of a single unit. Probabilisticfeatures are estimated from an inter-spikeintervaltime series, without assumptions about the firing distribution or the stationarity. The first level of proposedfiring patterns decomposition divides the inter-spikeintervals into bursting, moderate and idle firing modes,yielding a coarse feature set. The second level identifiesthe successive bursting spikes, or the spiking acceleration/deceleration in the moderate firing mode, yieldinga refined feature set. The features are estimated fromsimulated data and from experimental recordings fromthe lateral prefrontal cortex in awake, behaving rhesusmonkeys. An effcient and stable partitioning of neuralunits is provided by the ensemble evidence accumulationclustering. The possibility of selecting the number ofclusters and choosing among coarse and refined featuresets provides an opportunity to explore and comparedifferent data partitions. The estimation of features, ifapplied to a single unit, can serve as a tool for the firinganalysis, observing either overall spiking activity or theperiods of interest in trial-to-trial recordings. If applied tomassively parallel recordings, it additionally serves as aninput to the clustering procedure, with the potential tocompare the functional properties of various brainstructures and to link the types of neural cells to theparticular behavioural states.

The introduction contains the expected design and construction process of the proposed building as a whole. It is also prepared a preliminary draft of the financial cost of the entire project designed according THU and object schedule. Abstract:

This paper attempts to analyze Salman Rushdie's The Satanic Verses, its structure, multiple dimensions and characters through the lens of postcolonialism, separately from the infamous controversy. The thesis consists of three chapters which primarily deal with the themes of dehumanization, migration, exile, cultural contamination and possession (both literal and imaginary) of the territory through bodies. In addition to Rushdie's novel which lies in the core of this thesis, this paper also introduces a number of other literary texts and one film, all belonging to the authors coming from different backgrounds though curiously repeating and overlapping some of the notions when it comes to the portrayal of the migrants. Whereas the introduction of the thesis could be regarded as general, giving a necessary background to the reading of The Satanic Verses and outlining the methodology, the conclusion concerns not so much the repetition of what the chapters investigate, but rather draws the final line, discusses and interprets what the characters as well as entire narrative had arrived to. Whereas "the migrant can do without the journey altogether; it's no more than a necessary evil; the point is to arrive",1 Rushdie's novel seems to continuously enable movement rather than fixity. 1Salman Rushdie, The...

Abstract:

My master thesis aims to describe the community of tattooists, who started tattooing after 1989 or whom opened a tattoo studio after the Velvet Revolution. My thesis should help expand the history of tattooing in the Czech Republic and help understand why tattoos are a big phenomena now. One part of the thesis concentrates on the history of tattooing in different historical eras around the world. The next part focuses on how tattooing was forbidden during the communist era and people saw at as taboo. As relevant literature in this topic is missing, the primary sources used are oral historical interviews. The interviews focus on tattooing and the carrier of tattooists, but will mentioned also the private life of the recipients of tattoos. The main topic of the thesis is the emergence of tattoo studios in the Czech republic, its' importance to the people receiving tattoos and the impact on the personal and social life of the interviewees.
