An ellipsoidal dome is a conformal optical element used to replace a hemispherical dome on a missile to enhance its performance by reducing its aerodynamic drag. Conformal optics are a general class of optical systems in which the optical elements are shaped to optimize something other than image quality, such as aerodynamics. Marginal zones of salt diapirs and canopies are complex geological environments, with rapid spatial variations in lithology, strain, and fluid-assisted alteration. These complex zones can contain economically attractive hydrocarbon accumulations. However, they are difficult to image seismically due to the irregular geometry of salt bodies and the large property contrast between salt and the surrounding sediments. The numerous studies on the effects of patch size on bird assemblages have produced varied results. I studied the effects of patch size and surrounding matrix on bird assemblages within central Florida cypress domes. My null hypothesis was that bird assemblages within cypress domes are unaffected by dome size or development in the matrix around the dome. My alternative hypothesis was that differences in bird assemblages are correlated with size and the degree of development within the matrix. I classified a pool of over a thousand domes according to three size categories and four matrix types.
