Abstract:
Electroneurography is an examination method used for examining the nerve conduction capacity of the peripheral nerve. The method is often used in hospitals in the diagnosis of peripheral nerve injuries. The aim of this study is to examine if there is a significant difference in motor and sensory nerve conduction velocity, amplitude, and F-response between dominant and non-dominant hands. The correlation between hand grip strength and the amplitude in motor electroneurography was also examined in this study.  The study involved 26 students from Biomedical Scientist Programme term 6. The average age of the participants is 24 years (range 21-32 years), and the participants body length is on average 169 cm (range 155-185 cm). Electroneurography was performed on the median nerve bilaterally. Hand grip strength was examined bilaterally with Jamar Hydraulic Hand dynamometer. For all measurement variables, the significant level was determined to α=0,05.  The result shows that there is a significant difference in sensory nerve conduction velocity, motor amplitude, and sensory amplitude between dominant and non-dominant hands. Sensory nerve conduction velocity is higher in non-dominant hand, while motor and sensory amplitude is higher in dominant hand. However, a significant difference cannot be detected in motor nerve conduction velocity, FM-latency, and the number of F-responses between dominant and non-dominant hands. The result shows no correlation between hand grip strength and the amplitude in motor electroneurography.  Today, the same reference values are used for dominant and non-dominant hands. This study shows that there may be a value in creating reference intervals based on hand dominance.

Full text
Abstract:
In Darwinian evolution, a living population evolves when it is exposed to the selection pressures of a new biological medium. Analogously, in my chromatic evolution a chord "evolves" when it is exposed to a new chromatic medium, forcing it to adapt and harmonically modify its pitch content. This is a process by which a diatonic, consonant chord is progressively transformed into a chromatic substitute, over a span of several similar works, without losing or modifying the chord’s resolution tendencies, harmonic function, or formal location. From a Schenkerian perspective—and using Felix Mendelssohn’s Songs without Words as my corpus study—I will demonstrate how the pre-recapitulatory dominant (the root-position dominant that conventionally precedes the recapitulation) progressively evolves into a highly chromatic substitute: the dominant of the mediant.

Abstract:
Purpose – This article seeks to advance a novel service network perspective, based on the service-dominant logic, designated as service-dominant networks (SDN). Design/methodology/approach – Service-dominant logic components serve to build and describe SDN. Specifically, resources and actors are key components, combined with activities and the process by which they become resources. A case study details the features of SDNs. Findings – Service-dominant networks exhibit unique, previously unaddressed features. According to the service-dominant logic, components only become resources when they are integrated; thus, they disappear as resources after their integration, which means SDNs are fugacious: they (be-)come and go. In addition, SDNs comprise one or more main intended activities that explain their existence, though these intended activities do not necessarily initiate any particular SDN. Rather, other critical incidents can initiate SDNs. Research limitations/implications – The features of SDNs proposed in this article have not been a focus of prior research. In particular, the dynamics and fugaciousness of SDNs are challenges for research and management. Originality/value – This article offers the first proposal of a novel, service-dominant network perspective. In a very general and abstract form, it identifies the features of SDNs.

Enlund, John, and Petter Mattsson.

Full text
Abstract:
Undersökningsdeltagarna delades in slumpmässigt i två grupper (dominant eller icke-dominant).
Purpose: Counterweighted single-leg cycling is a new training method that can be used to increase intensity. Studies have shown differences between dominant and non-dominant leg during normal cycling. The purpose of this study was to analyse physiological assymetries during counterweighted single-leg cycling. Method: Eight volunteers (age 24,1 ± 4,2 years, height 177,0 ± 5,5 cm , weight 74,6 ± 9,0 kg, vo2max 69,0 ± 6,4 ml/kg/min) participated in this study. Participants were randomly divided into two groups (dominant or non-dominant). Waterloo Footedness Questionnaire was used to decide participants dominant leg. The dominant group used their dominant leg in the first interval at the second test, and the non-dominant group used their non-dominant leg in the first interval. At the first test a standarized incremental cycling test was performed until exhaustion. The second test , >48 hours later, consisted of four ten-minute intervals of counterweighted single-leg cycling, alternating legs. The second test was blinded. Results: Differences were observed, but no significant differences. Tendencies showed a higher power-output with the dominant leg (dominant leg 168 ±18,9 W, non-dominant leg 162 ±18,1W), but a higher cadence with the non-dominant leg (dominant leg 93 ± 12,7 rpm, non-dominant leg 95 ± 10,3 rpm). Conclusion: Differences exist between dominant and non-dominant leg in counterweighted single-legged cycling, but no significant differences. Our conclusion is that the learning effect affected the results in this study. To counteract this in future studies concerning counterweighted single-legged cycling the studies should include a learning period with the training method.

Full text
Abstract:
This qualitative research is a contribution to the ongoing debate among marketing researchers regarding if there is a dominant paradigm and viewpoint of marketing and which one is the most appropriate. In this study current views of marketing are identified and then compared against the older Goods-Dominant Logic of Marketing and Vargos’ and Luschs’ alternative Service-Dominant Logic of Marketing. The trends that have been observed are situated in the framework of Thomas S. Kuhn’s philosophy of science. The aim has been to make an analysis about which stage marketing is in its scientific revolution today. Kuhn’s philosophy has, as far as we know, never been examined with the chosen methodology. Further it has not been applied onto a social science either. The conclusion that has been drawn in the thesis is that marketing is dealing with anomalies at this moment. Therefore it is in a stage of crisis in its scientific revolution. Hence there is not a dominant paradigm in marketing currently.
Analysen byggs sedan upp i två steg.

Abstract:

Purpose – During the past decades, implementing reforms becomes a popular topic for most manufacturers. With the aim to cope with the environment changes, there are urgent needs for these manufacturing companies to carry on reforms on the existing businesses. At the same time, value creation under a new service dominant logic for manufacturers are cited by many scholars. The aim of this paper is to analyze the new dominant logic, with the comparison of traditional goods dominant logic, recognize the advanced value creation model. To go a step further, this paper also discusses about the way of implementing reforms and new business logic for manufacturers.

Methodology – This paper mainly takes the methodology of literature review. The literatures reviewed here include academic papers, books, and website information. The main field of literatures include: service definition and service characteristics; goods-dominant logic versus service dominant logic; and value creation (co-creation). On the other hand, some small case studies can also be found in this paper.

Findings – After the comparing between goods dominant logic and service dominant logic, this paper suggests the service-dominant logic as a preferred business logic. Because it provides a more interactive way of consumption, presents a value-in-use view rather than value-in-exchange, and requires manufacturers playing a role of assisting customers in value creating process. For those manufacturers wish to implement the service dominant logic, this paper suggests them to take innovations on their business, which including the innovations on products/services, business processes, and business models.

Research limitations/implications – As a relative new field of study, the research is mostly taken by literature review. However, the research on the implementing of new business logic and reforms requires more voice from the real industry.

Practical implications – Manufacturers may position themselves to new roles by involving in the customers’ value creating process. Taking innovations from a integrated view may help manufacturers to achieve the higher value under service dominant logic.

Originality/value – This paper concluded the ongoing service dominant logic development, after which, offers a discussion on the implementing of which for the manufacturing companies.

Pashak, Riley. "Susceptibility to Ankle Sprain Injury between Dominant and Non-Dominant Leg During Jump Landings." UKnowledge, 2019. https://uknowledge.uky.edu/khp_etds/66.

Full text
Abstract:
Ankle sprains are one of the most common injuries within athletics in the United States with approximately one-million student athletes experiencing ankle sprains each year. Studies argue excessive or rapid ankle inversion occurring from jump landings may cause ankle sprains. Also, the effect of limb dominance on risk of ankle sprain is not well documented. The aim of this study was to determine if there is an affect of leg dominance on landing mechanism of the ankle joint that predisposes either ankle joint to greater risk of ankle sprain. Twelve recreationally active subjects were recruited and completed four maximal vertical jumps. Ground reaction force, marker position data and maximal vertical jump height were collected using two Bertec Force plates, a 10-camera motion capture system, and a Vertec Vertical Jump Trainer, respectively. Cortex and Visual3D software programs were used to process the motion capture data and to calculate peak vertical ground reaction forces(vGRF), loading rate, and ankle joint moments. There were no statistically significant differences in ankle joint moment or loading rate between limbs, but peak vGRF were significantly higher (p < 0.05) in the non-dominant ankle. The results suggest the non-dominant ankle displays higher injury potential, as the non-dominant leg accumulates a larger peak landing force.

Tamang, Prabin. "Genetic Mapping and Characterization of Net Blotch Dominant Resistance and Dominant Susceptibility Loci in Barley." Diss., North Dakota State University, 2017. https://hdl.handle.net/10365/27468.

Full text
Abstract:
Net blotch is an economically important foliar disease of barley that occurs in two distinct forms: Spot Form Net blotch (SFNB) and Net Form Net Blotch (NFNB) caused by the necrotrophic fungal pathogens Pyrenophora teres f. maculata (Ptm) and Pyrenophora teres f. teres (Ptt), respectively. The recent emergence and the identification of both Ptm and Ptt isolates virulent on popular ND malting barley varieties have warranted the identification of new resistance sources. Association mapping was conducted on 2,062 diverse barley accessions phenotyped at the seedling stage with four diverse P. teres f. maculata isolates and genotyped with the 9k Illumina barley iSelect chip. A total of 138 significant marker-trait associations (MTA; ?log10P value > 3.0) corresponding to 27 resistance loci were identified of which 21 loci were novel and six corresponded to previously characterized SFNB resistance QTL. Further, two higly resistant lines PI67381 and PI84314 were crossed with the two susceptible cultivars Tradition and Pinnacle grown in the Upper Midwestern US to develop three bi-parental recombinant inbred line (RIL) mapping populations of Tradition x PI67381, Pinnacle x PI67381 and Pinnacle x PI84314. These RIL populations were phenotyped with six diverse Ptm isolates and genotyped using PCR-GBS. MapDisto and Qgene were used to analyze the data and a total of twelve QTL were identified on chromosome 2H, 3H, 4H, 6H and 7H, of which nine were previously reported and the remaining three are considered novel. These resistances and the markers delimiting the QTL are being utilized to develop prebreeding lines by introgressing SFNB resistance into the cultivars Pinnacle and Tradition utilizing marker assisted selection. The barley line CI5791 exhibits a high level of resistance to diverse Ptt isolates collected from around the world. A forward genetics approach and an exome capture-mediated mapping-by-sequencing identified a candidate HvWRKY6 transcription factor gene required for NFNB resistance on chr 3H. We hypothesize that the HvWRKY6 gene function as a component of a conserved basal defense mechanism, which regulates the expression of other defense response genes that restrict lesion growth. The resistance/susceptibility loci identified in this study will facilitate the development of net blotch resistant cultivars.

Abstract:
The manufacturing industry is turning their attention from a solely product orientation view, to the creation of new value-adding services in order to increase their after-sales business. In this thesis, a case study was conducted in order to examine a manufacturing industry in their process of developing value-adding services. By exploring their processes in service delivery and studying their introduction of remote monitoring systems in their service distribution, the aim was to visualise the dimensions of a service system and how it changes with the introduction of an specific new technology. This study has shown that the introduction of remote monitoring systems, changes the relationship between the provider and the receiver, through the decrease of physical visits at the clients’ site, with the consequence that the close relationships between the provider and its receivers can vanish. Furthermore this study shows that remote monitoring systems affects the service system, through intertwining the technology and shared information. As the characteristics of the new technology remote monitoring systems enables new ways of information sharing and thereby becoming how the information between the provider and receiver is shared. Additionally, this study shows that in order to co-create value in a service system, the provider has to bear full responsibility in coming up with an acceptable value proposition and for the clearness in presenting the value proposal to the receiver.

Full text
Abstract:
The enormous social, economic, and political government-led societal transformation South Africans have experienced over the past 15 years have brought about numerous societal and identity changes. The aim of the present study was to explore how dominant (White participants) and non-dominant (Black participants) groups experiencing the government-led societal transformation process deal with perceptions of intergroup differences based on Social Identity Theory (Tajfel & Turner, 1979, 1986) and related field research. Social Identity Theory predicts that in the presence of intergroup differences group members irrespective of their status position will apply identity management strategies to either improve or maintain their status position. The relationships between perceptions of intergroup relations and identity management strategies as proposed by Social Identity Theory were tested studying 170 second year Rhodes University psychology students. Sixty participants indicated themselves as Black South Africans (representing non-dominant group) and 110 participants identified themselves as White South Africans (dominant group). The results revealed that dominant and non-dominant groups differ systematically regarding the functional interaction between beliefs about the intergroup situation and identity management strategies. The results of the study indicate too, that ingroup identification differentiates between individual and collective strategies irrespective of the group’s status position.

Abstract:

Landscape character refers to the general impression people have of an environment. The literature suggests that certain perceived dominant features of the environment create this impression. One of the ways to investigate the dominant features of a landscape has been a classification task where people are asked to classify a group of photographs of places into categories. Each of the categories is then investigated to determine the visible features that define that class. In a progressive classification task, this dissertation investigated the dominant features in resort environments and identified the hierarchical order among the dominant features discovered. The results revealed visual features in the following hierarchy: presence of water, presence of development, amount of development, type of water body present, presence of mountains. These features are often encountered in the landscape character and landscape aesthetics literature, a fact that verifies their importance in the perception of the landscape.

Ahmad, Anita. "Dominant frequency estimation for atrial fibrillation studies." Thesis, University of Leicester, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/2381/10309.

Abstract:
This research work explores the feasibility of using frequency domain analysis in the study of arrhythmias. The research involves the application of spectrum analysis to obtain the dominant frequency (DF) of atrial electrograms (AE) at different sites in the atria. It is an alternative way of interpreting the chaotic electrical activity seen during AF and reveals critical sites to guide ablation. As longer ablation procedure time implies higher risk to the patient, DF estimation needs to be obtained as quickly as possible. Four techniques (FFT, Blackman-Tukey, Autoregressive and Multiple Signal Classification) were used to compare the computation times taken for spectrum estimation analysis. The FFT technique produces an accurate DF result with the shortest time. DF analysis was first used for ventricular fibrillation with data from the surface of the left ventricle (in animal studies). It was found that spectrograms show the DF drifting along time and with significant changes in power. This approach was then applied for bipolar AF signals (in human studies). The changes of the frequency along time were observed when the stimulation was given, either using high frequency stimulation or drug infusion. We have developed a novel technique for the removal of ventricular signals from virtual AE. The surface ECG is used to identify ventricular activity. A band pass filter (8 Hz to 20 Hz) followed by rectification and then a low pass filter (6 Hz) are used for QRS detection. QRST subtraction was performed using three different approaches: flat, linear and spline interpolation. QRST subtraction affects the power of the signals but not the DF. We also developed an adaptive power threshold tool to observe the distribution of the DFs with an adjustable power threshold setting. Using this tool the 3D maps can display the evolution of the DFs within a chosen threshold power bracket.

Abstract:
Diagonally dominant matrices arise in many applications. In this work, we exploit the structure of diagonally dominant matrices to provide sharp entrywise relative perturbation bounds. We first generalize the results of Dopico and Koev to provide relative perturbation bounds for the LDU factorization with a well conditioned L factor. We then establish relative perturbation bounds for the inverse that are entrywise and independent of the condition number. This allows us to also present relative perturbation bounds for the linear system Ax=b that are independent of the condition number. Lastly, we continue the work of Ye to provide relative perturbation bounds for the eigenvalues of symmetric indefinite matrices and non-symmetric matrices.

Abstract:
This work offers a framework for researchers by linking service-dominant (S-D) logic to an intersubjective stream of philosophy of science. Service-dominant logic has resonated in marketing, but no existing research has attempted to link S-D logic with basic meta-theory to provide a framework. Since the range of philosophies of science (isms) referred to in the marketing literature is broad, varying from ‘realism’ to ‘relativism’, from ‘positivism’ to ‘constructivism’ and from ‘structuralism’ to ‘post-structuralism/postmodernism’, first the different isms are grouped into four main groups/streams and then S-D logic is analyzed and classified according to these streams. The four streams are: object-orientation (realism, positivism, empiricism, and so on); subject orientation (constructivism, interpretivism, and so forth); intersubjective orientation (social constructionism, pancritical rationalism, methodological constructivism, and so on); and sign orientation (post-structuralism, postmodernism, and variations). S-D logic is mainly underpinned by an intersubjective orientation and has a huge potential for further development both in and for marketing if seen from a sign-orientated, post-structural perspective and linked to the theory of practices.

Abstract:
Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) is a common hereditary and monogenic disorder that results in renal cysts development that increases in number and size as the person gets older, often leading to end- stage renal disease. PKD1 is a large (~47kb) and complex gene that accounts for 85% of the identified cases of ADPKD. Currently, the full sequencing of PKD1 allows, with high sensibility, the detection of variations along the gene and this may be used in certain clinicai situations where imaging cannot provide a definitive clinicai diagnosis. However, the screening of mutation is often inconclusive because of multiple homologous copies of this gene on chromosome 16 and the high levei of allelic heterogeneity of PKD1. The research presented here had the objective to develop a genetic diagnostic test for ADPKD through PKD1 coding region and exon/intron boundaries sequencing, using Sanger technology and optimized for blood samples in FTA™ cards. The amplification and sequencing, using BigDye™ Terminator V3.1 technology, were optimized for the regions of interest, and the methodology showed to be reproducible. The screening for disease-causing mutations was performed in two unrelated individuais with ADPKD. The analysis revealed the presence of a truncating mutation in exon 15 in one of the patients, and a 19bp deletion in intron 31 of the other patient, which led to frameshifting and premature termination. In addition, the heterogeneity of PKD1 was observed, since there were detected several neutral variants in the analyzed samples, three of which resulting in amino acid substitution. This research demonstrated the potential of automated Sanger sequencing for diagnosis of genetic diseases. Although further validation using more samples from ADPKD patients is still needed, it is possible to conclude that this approach can lead to an effective molecular genetic diagnosis.

Full text
Abstract:
In this thesis I reflect upon a digital mapping project I did in the rural agricultural villages of Bangoua and Batoufam in the Grassfields region of Cameroon. This thesis considers digital mapping as a possible strategy for addressing a current dichotomy in these villages. On the one hand community members express concern over observed shifts in local weather patterns, which they attribute to climate change, and on the other hand community members express desperation for “development.” Of over 130 mapped points, I use this thesis to look at three case studies of community centered development initiatives that address both development and sustainability. In the Water is Life well-building training program, locals are empowered to build water wells, reducing village dependency on foreign teams of experts, which in turn reduces the environmental impact of displacement of these foreign teams and imported materials, and also generally increases the longevity of the water infrastructure by ensuring that local people are able to maintain and repair the system. In the case study of the reforestation project at College Evangélique de Bangoua, reforestation is used as a method for teaching adolescents about the importance of protecting the environment, as well as commerce skills, since the school director has plans to let the students sell the fruits from the trees once they have grown big enough and keep the profits. In the solar panel water system in Batoufam, the local water council challenged the dominant development model for water infrastructure (single-point, manual pump) and designed an extensive network of 10 faucets throughout the village connected to a solar powered electrically pumped well and reservoir. These three examples give hope to the possibility of addressing both climate change and development needs with the same initiatives; however, this process also illuminated the shortcomings of grassroots development. This project uses the mapping process to complicate dominant narratives about top-down and grassroots development. Ultimately, I will propose that this method of digital mapping itself carries potential for addressing the sometimes-polarized desires for sustainability and development.

Abstract:
This research report considers how dominant firms can establish when their competitive strategies are not anti-competitive. It argues that a dominant firm‟s actions can either be pro-competitive, thus conduct which competition law is designed to protect; or, anti-competitive and therefore prohibited. It questions whether there are any key principles that are emerging from South African competition law practice and decided cases that can provide some guidelines to dominant firms on whether planned action is prohibited conduct? It also questions whether the enforcement of the South African Competition Act‟s abuse of dominance provisions may have led to the chilling of competition. The research utilised the following methodologies: expert interviews; case studies; and, review of the competition authorities‟ enforcement actions. The report concludes that abuse of dominance cases are highly fact-intensive, industry specific and outcomes are effects-based. As such, it is difficult to prescribe a general rules-based compliance program to guide dominant firms in their development of competitive strategies. Copyright

Abstract:
Resource management is an important component in many distributed clusters. A resource manager handles which server a task should run on and which user’s task that should be allocated. If a system has multiple users with similar demands, all users should have an equal share of the cluster, making the system fair. This is typically done today using a centralized server which has full knowledge of all servers in the cluster and the different users. Having a centralized server brings problems such as single point of failure, and vertical scaling on the resource manager. This thesis focuses on fairness for users during task allocation with a decentralized resource manager. A solution called, Parallel Distributed Gradient-based Dominant Resource Fairness, is proposed. It allows servers to handle a subset of users and to allocate tasks in parallel, while maintaining fairness results close to a centralized server. The solution utilizes a gradient network topology overlay to sort the servers based on their users’ current usage and allows a server to know if it has the user with the currently lowest resource usage. The solution is compared to pre-existing solutions, based on fairness and allocation time. The results show that the solution is more fair than the pre-existing solutions based on the gini-coefficient. The results also show that the allocation time scales based on the number of users in the cluster because it allows more parallel allocations by the servers. It does not scale as well though as existing distributed solutions. With 40 users and over 100 servers the solution has an equal time to a centralized solution and outperforms a centralized solution with more users.

Abstract:

This study uses life-history interviews with militarized men to describe a version of masculinity constructed in the local context of a non-profit motorcycle club. The study describes the details of one group’s specific gender nature, the result of which expands and challenges our understanding of the masculinity master narrative. The findings establish that both hegemonic and nonhegemonic attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors co-exist in the local dominant masculine norm, thereby disrupting traditional distinctions of masculinity as being either hegemonic or nonhegemonic. Key future research implications support the study of context as essential to the study of gender construction, challenge descriptions of masculinity as being either hegemonic or nonhegemonic, and posit the relevance of veteran peer groups in supporting post-military resocialization.

Due to technological developments and raising environmental concerns, vehicle industry is ina transformation process. Current dominant design in the industry is the internal combustionengine vehicle but there are already different alternative vehicles like electric vehicles (EV),hybrids, and vehicles running on ethanol or hydrogen. These alternatives started to expandand they are competing to have a strong position in the market. The question is whichtechnology (EV, hybrid, ethanol) will have an important position in the future. This studyfocuses on the progress of electric vehicles towards being the dominant design in the vehicleindustry and aims to give advices and suggestions to electric car manufacturers what theyshould develop and concentrate on in the future. To achieve this aim, interviews with Renaultand Stockholm Municipality is conducted and analyzed in detail. Many manufacturers areinterested in EV technology and started to invest in the technology to have a strong position inthe future. Although EVs are ready to expand, there are still some obstacles in their way. Some of these problems can be solved in a short term, while others, mostly technology relatedimprovements still require time.

Abstract:
The process of globalization over the past five decades has given impetus to drivensustainability and related thinking in business. It is also observed that there areunprecedented trends in corporate strategy towards sustainable thinking - the emergenceof sustainability as corporate strategy and the concern of business for ecology and society. This forces companies to rethink their standard business models and increase theirinterest in innovating products and services based on the challenges of global sustainabledevelopment. The pressure from external stakeholders, mainly non-governmentalorganizations (NGOs), as drivers of change may also contribute strongly to thisendeavour. This substantial change pressure clearly reflects companies’ recognition of themounting pressures for social responsibility and governance. The overall aim of this thesisis to describe and understand how social responsibility and value-creation of customers’influence the overall service quality of companies in developing a sustainable servicebusiness. The theoretical and conceptual frame of reference finds its stimulation from the researchin sustainable development – corporate social responsibility, service research and qualitymanagement. In this way it attempts to bridge the gap between business and socialresponsibility. Theoretically and conceptually, the thesis amalgamates sustainabilitythinking and the service logic. Here, value creation and co-creation of Service DominantLogic (S-D logic) approach expands to integrate the values based approach of CorporateSocial Responsibility (CSR) in management thinking and have created the prevailingbusiness practices and service quality (SQ) improvement. This thesis is a compilation offive different papers that follow an interpretative case study approach. The empiricalstudy developed from the cases of multinational companies, small and mediumenterprises, smallholders and NGOs. In this thesis, ‘Sustainable Service Dominant Logic’ (SSDL) was labelled to argue thatvalue-based co-creation of the S-D logic framework can be used to create values-basedservices for sustainable business by examining the link between CSR and S-D logic basedon value, values and service quality for sustainable business. This is this thesis’scontribution to the ongoing discussion of the paradigm shift in service research. Theframework is of the integration of CSR thinking into service business to create sustainablebusiness thinking. This signifies the new thinking of incorporating different managementsystems in creating the organizational change process, sustainability and finally SQimprovement. This counters the critique against S-D logic by expanding the societal andethical dimensions by using CSR, and showing real business cases. This depends on theintegration of different change pressures for value creation, whether related to economicand social resource integration. This involves the shift of the focus of managerial controlfrom a preoccupation with financial issues to a wider awareness of CSR thinking. Theseissues are also explored by demonstrating, based on cases, how the adoption of thisperspective can also enable the Base of the Pyramid (BoP) framework to become animportant aspect of value creation. Finally, the paradigm shift can be generalized to newthinking in S-D logic and the social responsibility of businesses as the major phenomenonof the changing and globalizing business environment; time for the CSR framework to permeate S-D logic.

Abstract:

The dominant design concept describes the evolution from one dominant design to a new one, or in a new industry, the evolution to a set of standards and features that becomes a dominant design for that particular product or sector. Typically the dominant design is used to describe industry trends. This thesis takes the bottom up perspective, i.e. the company's perspective, to identify if, or what parts, of the dominant design model that can be used as an explanatory tool of innovation in the two ERP companies chosen. This thesis has found that some parts of the dominant design model can be used to describe innovation in our two case companies. However, the model has to be altered to fit the particular needs of the software industry and exclude the concept of process innovation, which is a part of the original dominant design model. By considering a company’s existing situation, e.g. customers, market share, partnerships etc. and fitting these facts into our altered dominant design model it should be possible to explain actions undertaken by an ERP company.

Abstract:
Background: Autosomal dominant familial neurohypophyseal diabetes insipidus (adFNDI) is a rare disease with symptoms of polydipsia, polyuria and dehydration caused by arginine vasopressin deficiency. Disease onset is within infancy or adolescence. A variety of disease-causing mutations of the arginine vasopressin neurophysin II gene (AVP) on chromosome 20p13 have been described. Methods: Two Polish families with adFNDI were screened for mutations. Processing of wild-type (WT) and mutant AVP was monitored using immunocytochemical methods in stably transfected Neuro2A cells. AVP secretion into the cell culture supernatant was investigated with an enzyme immunoassay. Results: In the first family a heterozygous p.G96D mutation was identified. Some patients additionally carried a novel heterozygous mutation p.A159T. The second family presented with a heterozygous mutation p.C98G. Confocal laser microscopy unveiled accumulation of p.G96D and p.C98G prohormones in the cellular bodies, whereas WT and p.A159T prohormones and/or processed products were located in the tips of cellular processes. Reduced levels of AVP in supernatant culture medium of p.G96D and p.C98G transfected cells in comparison to p.A159T and WT cells were found. Conclusions: We conclude that the p.G96D and p.C98G mutations cause adFNDI in the two reported families. The sequence variant p.A159T does not seem to have disease-causing effects

Full text
Abstract:

The dissertation looks beyond the dominant frames of Western epistemology and philosophy that largely determine the ways revolution and revolutionaries are conceptualized and remembered in modern society. Rather than focusing on historically grounded political projects that conform to a particular revolutionary doctrine, our focus will be on common people whose praxis posed, and still poses, an alternative to a social order premised on the separation and stratification of the commons and its people. The revolutionaries we will meet in these pages see through what we will unravel as the myth of separateness. They see through a mythic reality that veils people’s interconnections with each other, with the commons, and with the cosmos from which all life emerges. Their praxis touches this deeper reality.

To ground our discussion, we will look deeply at three flashpoints of revolt against the myth as it manifested itself in the liberal capitalist regimes of the 19th and 20th centuries: The Paris Commune of 1871, the student protests of 1968 in Paris and Mexico, and a self-immolation in protest of the Vietnam War that occurred in 1970. We will thread these flashpoints together to see how, despite the distance that separates these revolts in time and space, they illuminate an alternative way of being that stands in contrast to the atomized, competitive, and militant existence that is formed in the crucible of liberal capitalist empire. Threading these flashpoints together, we will begin to reconceptualize what is meant by success and failure, beginnings and endings. Though these revolts may end with defeat and death, the way of being that they touched continues on past their historical or biographical endpoint. Like the light from a dead star or from an extinguished candle, their revolution travels across space and across time waiting for the right conditions to manifest itself again in renewed praxis. Cultural production, particularly art and literature, will serve as our vehicle for illuminating this revolution and its continuations.

Abstract:
Rapid digitalisation development has been stampeding widely across today’s societies, and not least in the payment industry. Though, the digitalisation in the payment industry has been very deviating, even between similar well-developed countries, and while there are positive and negative effects with both digital- and physical payment means, there is little knowledge that highlights the influencing factors and accompanied problems. This study therefore explore swhich, and how, different factors influence a country’s degree of digital payments, and creates further understanding of where the payment markets are heading in the future. It is done through a case study of four different industrialised countries, Sweden, Italy, Canada, and Switzerland which involves mapping the countries’ payment markets, as well as potential factors influencing a population’s payment habits, through a perspective of innovation theory in terms of dominant designs and technological discontinuities. Theory of network externalities and two-sided platforms are further used to explain and discuss how a two-sided market, likethe payment market, is affected by changes and other circumstances in different ways. Conclusions are then drawn from the used theories together with a comparison of the findings, and identifies certain influencers to a country’s distribution of payments, as well as provides indications of where the different payments markets are heading in the future. Data is mainly gathered through written material and credible databases, but also from semi-structured interviews.
