Abstract:
Solution doping is a facile approach to fabricating photoactive polymer optical fibers (POFs). However, previous studies reveal that only the cladding of step-index POFs can be doped by the solution doping method in methanol or aqueous solutions, whereas the fiber core is hardly doped. To dope the fiber core as well as the cladding, this study attempts to dope PMMA-based step-index POFs by raising the doping temperatures to near the Tg of PMMA. The results show that a considerable amount of rhodamine B (RhB) is doped in the fiber core, though the amount is still much less than that in the clad

In this work, Fe2O3 was investigated as a doping agent for poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) in order to enhance the plasmonic effect in sensors based on D-shaped plastic optical fibers (POFs). The doping procedure consists of immerging a premanufactured POF sensor chip in an iron (III) solution, avoiding repolymerization and its related disadvantages. After treatment, a sputtering process was used to deposit a gold nanofilm on the doped PMMA in order to obtain the surface plasmon resonance (SPR). More specifically, the doping procedure increases the refractive index of the POF’s PMMA in contac

Polarized holographic properties play an important role in the holographic data storage of traditional organic recording materials. In this study, reduced graphene oxide (RGO) was introduced into a phenanthraquinone-doped polymethylmethacrylate (PQ/PMMA) photopolymer to effectively improve the orthogonal polarization holographic properties of the material. Importantly, the lateral size of RGO nanosheets has an important influence on the polymerization of MMA monomers. The reflection spectrum of Methyl Red (MR) doped PMMA film is measured and modified. The refractive index of the sample is gained by calculation of Kramers- Kronig relation with the data of the reflection spectrum. The refractive index change of the sample is gained with the absorption specta. The MR doped PMMA sample has a refractive index change under 532nm laser excitation, in which the valley value happens around 400 nm and peak value around 600 nm.
