Abstract:
We investigated the clinical epidemiology of mineral bone disorder markers in prevalent hemodialysis (HD) patients in Xinjiang, the largest province in China. Data were obtained from 59 hospitals. A total of 3725 patients tracked from January 1 to December 31, 2014, were enrolled. Serum calcium (Ca) levels, phosphorus (P) levels, and intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) levels were analyzed. Serum Ca levels were lower compared to the International Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (DOPPS4) and the Chinese DOPPS. The hypercalcemia rate was similar to DOPPS4 and lower than in the Chines

BackgroundMetabolic acidosis is a common threat for patients on hemodialysis, managed by alkaline dialysate. The main base is bicarbonate, to which small amounts of acetic, citric, or hydrochloric acid are added. The first two are metabolized to bicarbonate, mostly by the liver. Citric acid–containing dialysate might improve dialysis efficiency, anticoagulation, calcification propensity score, and intradialytic hemodynamic stability. However, a recent report from the French dialysis registry suggested this dialysate increases mortality risk. This prompted us to assess whether citric acid–conta

Background: As the utilization of hemodialysis increases in China, it is critical to examine anemia management. Methods: Using data from the China Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (DOPPS), we describe hemoglobin (Hgb) distribution and anemia-related therapies. Results: Twenty one percent of China's DOPPS patients had Hgb <9 g/dl, compared with ≤10% in Japan and North America. A majority of medical directors targeted Hgb ≥11. Patients who were female, younger, or recently hospitalized had higher odds of Hgb <9; those with insurance coverage or on twice weekly dialysis had low

Background: Japanese patients undergoing dialysis have an extremely low mortality rate compared with those in the United States and Europe. As shown in the Dialysis Outcomes & Practice Patterns Study (DOPPS), certain features of dialysis treatment, such as single treatment time and amount of blood flow, are unique to Japan, but factors contributing to the low mortality risk are unclear. Although DOPPS is a multi-country prospective cohort study, the study results may not entirely reflect the real trend in Japan because the number of Japanese institutions participating in the study is small
