Eighteen specimens, 12 slender columns and 6 beams, were tested to obtain the failure patterns, load versus deflection relationships and strain developments of stainless steel tube. A finite element (FE) model was developed and verified by experimental results. The validated FE model was then employed to investigate the effects of key parameters, including holl

Abstract:
Unreinforced masonry is one of the most commonly used structure typologies for the construction of residential buildings, which is why the estimation of its mechanical parameters is of primary importance. The main techniques to acquire them are based on destructive methods, however less invasive tests have been studied in the past years in order to obtain the same parameters in-situ: the core testing method is one of those. While monotonic compression tests on single-wythe cores provided good results, tests performed on double-wythe cores have given a significant overestimation of the compress

Abstract:
The use of coarse-grained fill materials has grown significantly in recent years especially on account of their use in dams and transportation networks. This study investigates compressibility of various coarse-grained fill materials in dry and wet loading conditions in oedometer test. Four materials were used in the experiments, which falls into GP, GW, GM and GC categories respectively. GP material is a weathered rock obtained from Eymir Lake region. This material was chosen especially to be able to investigate degradation and particle breakage due to compaction and compression. GW, GM and G

The research activities described in this thesis have been mainly focused on the analysis and development of techniques able to detect image forgeries. The first part of the thesis has been devoted on detecting tampering by using compression artifacts analysis. Driven by an application aiming to retrieve the original camera model used to shoot the image, two research topics have been targeted: the cropping detection, i.e. the operation that allows obtaining a subpart of the image, and the double quantization detection, i.e. the fact that an image, previously compressed, is opened, modified and

We report a new lossless data compression algorithm (LDC) for implementing predictably-fixed compression values. The fuzzy binary and-or algorithm (FBAR), primarily aims to introduce a new model for regular and superdense coding in classical and quantum information theory. Classical coding on x86 machines would not suffice techniques for maximum LDCs generating fixed values of Cr >= 2:1. However, the current model is evaluated to serve multidimensional LDCs with fixed value generations, contrasting the popular methods used in probabilistic LDCs, such as Shannon entropy.
