Abstract:
A double delta-doped channel 4H-SiC MESFET is proposed to kick out degradation of the DC and RF performances caused by the surface traps, by forming a quantum-well-like potential well and separating an effective channel from the surface. To obtain an optimum device structure, the DC and RF performances of double delta-doped channel MESFETs having various delta-doping concentrations but the same pinch-off voltage with that of conventional MESFET were also investigated. The SilvacoTM simulation results show that the double delta-doped channel MESFET achieved more improvement of the drain current

In recent studies, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle has been modified into the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) to explain gravity from a quantum mechanical perspective. Here, we study the GUP corrections to the bound-state energy eigenvalues for a delta-function potential well and a double delta-function potential well using nonrelativistic quantum mechanical tools. Transmission probabilities for scattering states have also been derived and compared with the unmodified cases for both systems.

Bottom simulating reflectors (BSRs) and seismic pipe features have been used as proxies for defining the distribution of gas hydrate sediments in the offshore Niger Delta. This is the most extensive mapping of gas hydrate sediments in the Delta as of today. The seismic data merge comes from multiple surveys acquired with different parameters and seismic resolutions over the course of decades of oil and gas exploration in the region. Indicated gas hydrate distribution generally follows the structural fabric of the Niger Delta with BSRs occurring along the apexes of the thrust-related ridges tha

Potential wells are widely studied entities nowadays, because of their wide range of applications in many fields of science. Experimental and technological improvements make it possible to design and control the potential shape. For instance, one can modify a single-well potential into a double well and backwards. To investigate this kind of problems, one needs to properly take into account the time-dependency of the system Hamiltonian. We used split operator method to study the dynamics of wavepacket in general, and in time-dependent potential wells in particular. While considering time-depen

Abstract We discuss the procedure of solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation via a separation ansatz that leads to the time-independent Schrödinger equation. The resulting equation is in the form of an eigenvalue problem for the Hamiltonian, whose solutions are the stationary states. We derive and discuss the bound states and corresponding energy levels for several one-dimensional potentials of interest, including the finite and infinite potential well, the Dirac-delta potential, and the square double-well modelling the spatial configuration of the ammonia molecule. We then turn to the scattered solutions and discuss reflection from and transmission through a finite potential barrier, thus encountering the tunnel effect, which we in turn formulate more generally using the Gamow factor. This leads us to the interesting phenomenon of tunnelling resonances

Abstract Double Loop-Electrochemical Potentiokinetic Reactivation (DL-EPR) is a valuable technique to test Type 304 stainless steel (SS) materials and components for the presence of grain boundary chromium depletion and assess material sensitization. This has practical relevance for the evaluation of susceptibility to intergranular stress corrosion cracking (IGSCC) of welded structures. The present study reports on work to develop DL-EPR methodology applied to UNS S30400 SS pipe butt-welds of relatively small size and having fusion zones irregular in shape, both of which present experimental d

Abstract Most of the recent work done to characterize the fracture toughness of age-hardened nickel-based alloys in simulated seawater with cathodic protection (SW+CP) environments has used rising displacement techniques and compact tension specimens. The results of these tests are sometimes used in fracture mechanics calculations for design verification, though there is some uncertainty about the appropriate method for determining environmental fracture toughness from the results. There has not to date been much work performed to characterize threshold stress intensities in SW+CP environments

Abstract:
U.S. freight railroads produce about 40 percent of freight gross ton-miles while consuming only about 1/20th of the total U.S. diesel fuel1. Compared to heavy-duty trucks, freight railroads have significant energy (and emissions) advantages including the low coefficient of friction of steel wheel-on-rail (compared to rubber tires-on-pavement) and multiple-vehicle trains. However, improved heavy-duty truck technologies are being federally-funded and developed which may create some challenges to freight rail’s long-standing environmental (and economic) advantage in certain transportation markets
