Abstract:
The Old Church Slavonic translation of John Chrysostom’s commentaries on Acts of the Apostles (CPG 4426) is attested in 18 ethica and fragments included in the Old Bulgarian collection Zlatostruy from the early 10th-century Preslav. The Slavonic homilies have many peculiarities in common suggesting that they were translated together presumably by one translator. One of their common features is the frequent use of double translations (Doppelubersetzungen). In the article nearly half of the 90 examples in 10 homilies are examined and divided into four groups – proper double translations, complementary double translations, synonyms, and contextual synonyms. The study shows that in several cases the Slavonic translation is notably consistent and repetitive, but more often it aims at variety and clarity. The examples from the Zlatostruy homilies on Acts are compared to other Old Church Slavonic translations (e.g. to the works of John the Exarch and to other homilies from Zlatostruy), but the similarities are not sufficient for identifying the anonymous translator(s). The use of doublets in the examined texts is viewed both as a linguistic device for a faithful translation and as a stylistic feature typical for the translator of these homilies. However, this phenomenon is attested in many other medieval literary traditions, which makes the Zlatostruy homilies part of a larger textual tradition.

Abstract:
The translation of Saussurean texts and terminology has become a science in its own right. The discovery of new documents during the 20th century provided material that not only advanced this field but also presented numerous challenges, compelling translators to rethink existing translations. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the features of the translation process into Russian of the manuscripts titled De la double essence du langage discovered in 1996. Going through the history of existing Russian translations of Saussure’s texts, the author takes into consideration terminological, philological and epistemological aspects of the translation of this text which remains largely unknown to Russian scholars, as well as suggesting strategies that can be applied to solve different issues caused by the particular form, content and context of these manuscripts.

Abstract:
The first decade of the 20th century was a period of huge advances and expansion in the Latvian translation scene. New, contemporary authors’ works became available to Latvian readers. The Latvian readership was consciously being integrated into general European literary trends. It was also a heyday of periodicals that published numerous translations, including numerous novels. There are countless parallel translations even reaching double digits. Translations included various genres and the traditional Latvian interest in plays was obvious. German was gradually losing its dominant positions as both a source and intermediate language, Russian was advancing. This period also saw a change of generations among translators, and with the new generation women became visible in translation scene. Practically all Latvian writers were also active translators. The translation method changed from localisation to a fidelity mode with a tendency towards foreignisation. Frequently translations now had prefaces and explanations by the translators. Translated literature now ranged from serious classical works to modern ones and from pulp literature to high quality creations. The quality of translations was also very varied. The expansion of translation and the cultivation of new domains went hand in hand with the development of the Latvian language itself.

Abstract:
What can Make Translations Appear Older: Changes in Language or in Translation Norms?
The article attempts to address the phenomenon of aging translations, especially literary ones, which has not been sufficiently analysed in translation research. The description is based on the framework of double dependence of a translation: dependence on the original on the one hand, and on the communicative requirements of reception on the other. Based on the classification of texts according to the diachronic aspect (Jäger), one can attribute translation aging to two reasons: to the evolution of the target language together with the changes in the adopted way of constructing literary narration, which is influenced by changes of literary epochs, and to the change in translation norms. These two factors are illustrated with the materials drawn from early translations of Russian literary works into Polish, especially those by Anton Chekhov. As it turns out, even though translation units can be archaic on all levels of language, the process of translation aging is determined to the greatest extent by semantic factors. The analysis of changes in old translation norms shows a high degree of variability in translation techniques used in early translations. The classification of the types of translation norms by Komissarov was applied in the analysis to prove that translation aging is mainly due to changes in the target language norms of formulating translations, especially the pragmatic norm.

Abstract:
(Benedetto Cotrugli sulla contabilità in Partita Doppia) In 1458, a former international merchant, Benedetto Cotrugli, wrote a 200-page manual on how to be a successful merchant: Libro de Larte dela Mercatura (Book of the Art of Trade). It included a 5-page chapter on double entry bookkeeping, something never previously preserved in written form. The earliest known copy of this book dates from 1475. This paper provides an overview of the book and of Cotrugli; and it presents new English and Italian translations of Cotrugli’s chapter on double entry bookkeeping. These differ from previous translations in that they are based solely on the earliest copy of Cotrugli’s book from 1475. The English translation is also the first to have been prepared by an accountant enabling the description of entries in account books to be in the form Cotrugli intended. This is the first of two contributions made by this paper. The second is that it identifies Cotrugli’s chapter as a first stage in the training of a bookkeeper, where a broad introduction to the subject is laid down as a foundation for further study or practical experience.

Abstract:
The article analyzes Louis Adamic's early translation phase that included, apart from his translations from Slovenian, also Croatian literature. His translations had a double function: to help him improve his English and to promote him as a writer. He randomly chose some Croatian short stories which he partly translated and partly adapted. He also did his best to introduce the authors to the American readers. The stories were published in American magazines but Adamic's repeated effort to publish a book of Yugoslav translations sadly failed. In spite of this, he was an important groundbreaker in the field paving the way for other translators who followed in his wake.

Abstract:
This article uses Mediated Discourse Analysis (Norris &amp; Jones 2005) to investigate a dual translation: One, the English-Maori original Potiki by Patricia Grace (1986), a translation of Maori culture that issues a complex postcolonial challenge and neocolonial protest; and two, the German version of the book translated by Martini-Honus and Martini (2005 edition). Findings indicate that the book’s essence embedded in a complex interweaving of Maori myths and biblical parallels has not been recognized by professional reviewers of the German translation and that certain mistranslations distort important messages from the original. All readers of translations potentially contribute to indigenous people regaining their voice, but only if these readers can decipher the original actions and discourses in their languages. This article delivers a key to understanding Potiki, a classic text widely used in teaching and already translated into at least five languages, i.e. Dutch, Finnish, French, German and Spanish.

Abstract:
The translation of conditional constructions with the participle in Biblical Hebrew in a number of Bible translationsThis article discusses the translation of conditional constructions in Biblical Hebrew in the Septuagint, Vulgate and the Old and New Afrikaans translations. Conditional sentences with a participle in the Hebrew protasis are discussed as well as instances where a participial phrase is substituted for the protasis. Constructions in laws and in narrative contexts are dealt with separately and single, double and complex constructions are distinguished. Participial constructions in laws are mainly translated by relative constructions. The Septuagint frequently has participial translations and the Vulgate uses a number of different constructions. In narrative contexts the Hebrew participles are used in ordinary conditional sentences after conditional particles. The translations mainly use the present tense in the protases of the conditional sentences in narrative contexts.

Abstract:
The creation of optical states of light that are quantum mechanical in nature in optical fibers is discussed and demonstrated experimentally. Specifically, two- photon states created by spontaneous four-wave-mixing in commercially available single-mode, birefringent fibers are studied. When creating photon states of light, it is important to verify the created states are of the proper photon number distribution and free of noise. We detail a method for combining thresholding, non-number resolving detectors to characterize the photon number distribution created via SFWM and a procedure to quantify the noise sources present in the process. Frequency translation in optical fibers with two-photon states is discussed and experimental considerations are presented.

Abstract:
This thesis contributes to the field of nanosciences. This manuscript reports the work achieved in order to better understand the rotational and translational motions observed in molecules while those are manipulated as single molecular machines. We first studied the dissymmetrization of the stator (lower anchoring part of the motor) by means of two biphenylene moieties. These fragments were selected to reproduce the behavior of sexiphenyls that can easily move on a surface with the motion analogue to a crawling. Therefore, biphenylenes were designed to allow the molecule to drift in a linear way on the surface using the excitation from the STM tip. In this synthesis, we succeeded to obtain the bipodal bearing two biphenylene moieties. The third indazole subunit could not be added to form the desired dissymmetric stator. Starting from the initial design of the molecular motor previously developed in the group, the first goal of this work was to dissymmetrize the rotor (upper rotating part of the motor) by introducing a nitrogen tag with the purpose of being able to visualize the rotation while this latter is induced by the tip of the STM. The obtained rotor bearing five arms will be used as gears to study the transfer of rotation from one to his neighbours. The last part of this work consists in the development of a new family of rotors based on the double-decker architecture. The upper rotating part is a porphyrin ligand displaying electron donating and withdrawing moieties resulting in a strong dipolar moment with an estimated value of 8 Debye. This unique asset can be used in order to control their rotation by applying an STM tip-induced electric field. This rotor is supported on an europium naphthalocyanine fragment which disables the strong interaction between the rotor and the surface. Thus, an europium heteroleptic double-decker was synthesized and fully characterised. Double-deckers have been studied as monolayers on Cu(111) at 80 K and as single molecule on Au(111) at 5 K using an ultra high vacuum STM. Switching as well as free and synchonised rotational behaviors have been evidenced using different values of bias voltage

Edy, Delphine. "Le réalisme et son double au théâtre. Thomas Ostermeier, mise en scène et recréation." Thesis, Sorbonne université, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018SORUL150.

Full text
Abstract:
In his recent productions, T. Ostermeier investigates the links between literature and drama with complex, renewed realism to question what insights the works of the past can give us into today’s political and social reality. He always favours the in-betweens which enable him to break through the stifling inflexibility of literal interpretation and initiates a dialogue between the past and the present, the actual and the virtual, what is close at hand and what is distant. His realism connects the visible surface of reality to its invisible depth – its double. He delves into this spectrality by focusing on the characters’ memory, their ghosts; on their language, hanging between translation and reworking, as their unsaid, repressed words speak loud; on space viewed as space between – thresholds, somewhere/nowhere, passages, pictures of all too present off-stage scenes or of elusive intimacy; on music too, echoing meaning in multiple layers. These ghost-like doubles are T. Ostermeier’s material to rebuild a meaningful present without ignoring its cracks and fault lines. His productions should be analysed as an autonomous oeuvre which calls on literary works to make sense afresh, to voice the painful, timeless experience of the real and the political hope to rebuild the present. His constantly ‘deterritorialising’ theatre substantiates our ghosts – the flipside of our reality – so that we, spectators, may finally get a grasp on them. T. Ostermeier will not confine theatre and literature to merely interpreting the world, he wants them to dialogue in order to transform it

Abstract:
The current Japanese counseling profession is in the process of reforming and uniting the system and training together for counseling and related professions. Supervision is one of significant training piece in this profession; however, its familiarity among Japanese counseling professionals is very unclear. This study explored how Japanese counseling professionals conceptualize the ideal figure of a clinical supervisor based on the identified fundamental elements of clinical supervision in the US. The preliminary analysis indicates that each aspect of the U.S. clinical supervision models might be adoptable to Japanese counseling professionals. Yet the small sample size does not confirm the conceptual framework of the ideal clinical supervisor for Japanese counseling professionals, the main analysis indicated an alternative culturally appropriate conceptual framework. Further research embracing Japanese cultural characteristics and sound ethical manner in the professional counseling and supervisory relationship would enrich the clinical supervision in Japan.

Cuppi, Lorenzo. "Long doublets in the Septuagint of the Book of Proverbs, with a history of the research on the Greek translations." Thesis, Durham University, 2011. http://etheses.dur.ac.uk/3605/.

Full text
Abstract:
The present research is divided into two main parts. In the first one the history of the studies on the Septuagint translation of the book of Proverbs is addressed; particular attention is given to the recent works by Johann Cook, and by David-Marc d'Hamonville. In the second part long doublets found in the translation are dealt with (Prov. 2.21; 3.15; 14.22; 15.6). These doublets have been traditionally seen as additions inserted by an early Jewish Revisor or via the hexaplaric recension in order to drive the version closer to the so-called Proto-Masoretic Text. The study aims to show that in 3.15 (where both the qere and the ketiv readings are preserved by the two renderings), 14.22, and 15.6 the translation technique of the first translator of Proverbs can be detected. He seems to be interested in preserving the polysemy of the Hebrew text by means of the double translation. However, in verse 2.21 the translation technique of Theodotion has been recognised in the doublet, and this addition has been tentatively ascribed to an early contact with the καίγε recension rather than to a late insertion from the Hexapla. Thus, if in most of the cases the doublets do not seem to stem from an early Jewish Revisor, in a few instances they may depend on an early exposure to the Jewish recension identified by modern scholars with the name καίγε.

Lane, Sarah Vania. "Yann Apperrys Diabolus in musica: a partial translation prefaced by an introduction to the novel and the theory of foreignization." University of British Columbia, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/78.

Full text
Abstract:
Yann Apperrys third novel, Diabolus in musica, is a pastiche of diabolic and gothic tropes that tells of a musical genius who composes a ballade that kills. Resurrections, doppelgangers and triads are reoccurring themes. Although the narrator kills his doppelganger on the first page, the name of this double, Lazarus, haunts the narrative with the threat of resurrection. Similarly, the threefold tritone, the diabolus in musica, is not only echoed in the numerical structure of Apperrys novel but also in the familial triad: the fathers presence is dark and demoniac, provoking the cruel music that the son in turn forces onto the exterior world; the mother is a ghostly distillation of the Eternal Feminine. In terms of comparative readings, Diabolus can be read alongside Suskinds Perfume as the Bildungsroman of an outsider raised without love who turns astounding genius to homicidal ends. It shares narrative and structural similarities with Manns Doctor Faustus: each tells of a prodigy who composes music and a faithful sidekick who composes narrative; each arranges his novel according to number. Nabokovs influence on Apperrys work is also significant; many parallels are to be found with his third novel, The Defense. Approaches to translation diverge according to their foundational conceptions of language: do we create language or does language create us? To conclude the former is to adopt an approach that focuses on the meanings of source texts while to conclude the latter is to focus more on their formal properties. Caught between these differing conceptions, the translator must choose between domestication and foreignization; I favour the latter for literary translation. I define the literary through a reading of the aesthetic in Dauenhauer and Kristeva, and then I review the arguments that Benjamin, Derrida, Berman and Venuti make in favour of word-based translation. From this I conclude that translation can, in refusing to hide its foreign origins, lead readers into the unknown territory of a strange language, author and text, where they become strangers, and where their language and culture become foreign. With this partial translation of Diabolus, I seek to provoke such an encounter with foreignness.

Abstract:
On cherchera ainsi à mieux connaître la répercussion des choix de traduction les plus habituels chez les traducteurs audiovisuels de films d’animation pour enfants<br>Audiovisual Translation is the main subject of study of this research, evaluating more particularly the reception of dubbing by a “special” audience of the analyzed corpus, the child. The subtitle of the work –end user perception– reveals its empirical and experimental nature, our main goal being to empirically analyze the reaction of young people to some of the translation’s choices regularly adopted in dubbing animated films. Certain translation strategies and techniques may be used to reach or repel the audience: we will try to examine how they help understanding, make laugh or cry, and ultimately entertain the child.Nowadays, the only way to know if a children film is successful is by checking theaters’ box office and DVD, Blu-ray and VOD sales. In order to fill this gap, we have decided to perform an experiment with children which include the screening of some film clips dubbed in Spanish. Then, they have completed a specific questionnaire adapted to their cognitive development, which helped us to determine the information learned by the experience’s through the film.

Abstract:
Отримані результати можуть бути використані при подальшому дослідженні теорії антонімії, а також теорії перекладу.<br>Antonymy has long been at the centre of scientists concerns. In the middle of the XIX century, the first dictionaries of the antonyms appeared, and in the 1950s a widespread study of this linguistic phenomenon began, however, this kind of linguistic phenomenon (contextual antonymy) still remains poorly investigated. In order to solve this problem, a study was conducted, in which both, general scientific and special linguistic methods were used: comparison, component analysis, contextual analysis, method of introspection. In the course of the study, a clear definition of ocсasional antonymy was given, the main ways of translating contextual antonymic opposition and the conditions for their adequate translation were determined. Also, a methodological basis for the disclosure of the translation of occasional antonymic opposition in classes on the practice of translation has been suggested. The work can be used for further linguistic studies of structural-semantic, functional and pragmatic features of the German language units for a more detailed study and development of methodological and reference literature. Goal: The purpose of the study is to determine the ways of solving translation difficulties that arose as a consequence of the use of antonymic opposition and finding an effective algorithm for teaching the translation of antonymic opposition. Theoretical meaning: the expansion of the aspectology of the antonymy theory, which is essential in view of the orientation of modern linguistics to anthropocentrism in the study of linguistic units, as well as in the development of methodological literature on the translation of occasional antonymic opposition. The obtained results can be used for further study of the antonymy theory, as well as the theory of translation.

Abstract:
This paper considers an early international publishing franchise, in which titles published in French by Gautier-Languereau for their children’s Série 15 were purchased by foreign publishing houses, translated, then marketed in Portugal, Spain and Italy. The books contain short stories (15 in each) that may originally have been intended for adult readers but have now been appropriated by literary editors for a juvenile audience, thus moving into the category of ‘crossover’ fiction. In some cases, the original story was published in English, translated into French, then re-translated from French into Portuguese or Spanish, hence the term ‘double crossing’. This process raises a number of questions about the nature of intercultural transfer, children’s responses – or responsiveness – to foreign literature, and the status accorded to children’s literature in general. An examination of some of the Portuguese translations seems to corroborate Zohar Shavit’s view (1999) that translators working with a supposedly minor or peripheral genre do not hesitate to modify or adapt their source text. While purists might wish to accuse the translator of committing an act of betrayal, as in the time-honoured adage traduttore, traditore, there is no evidence to suggest that the youthful readers of the Portuguese Série 15 felt especially defrauded or cheated in their reading experience, a reaction which may bear out Paul Hazard’s (1960) belief in a universal republic of children. Nowadays there is a great deal of theorising of children’s literature, much of it by educationalists or ‘mediadores’, some from a feminist perspective, some from the perspective of translation and cultural studies. Scholars have made in-depth studies, written essays and monographs, contributed articles to encyclopaedias and histories of children’s literature, and tackled a broad range of issues

Abstract:
AbstractWhile the complexity of translating future linear temporal logic (LTL) into automata on infinite words is well-understood, the size increase involved in turning automata back to LTL is not. In particular, there is no known elementary bound on the complexity of translating deterministic $$\omega $$ ω -regular automata to LTL.Our first contribution consists of tight bounds for LTL over a unary alphabet: alternating, nondeterministic and deterministic automata can be exactly exponentially, quadratically and linearly more succinct, respectively, than any equivalent LTL formula. Our main contribution consists of a translation of general counter-free deterministic $$\omega $$ ω -regular automata into LTL formulas of double exponential temporal-nesting depth and triple exponential length, using an intermediate Krohn-Rhodes cascade decomposition of the automaton. To our knowledge, this is the first elementary bound on this translation. Furthermore, our translation preserves the acceptance condition of the automaton in the sense that it turns a looping, weak, Büchi, coBüchi or Muller automaton into a formula that belongs to the matching class of the syntactic future hierarchy. In particular, it can be used to translate an LTL formula recognising a safety language to a formula belonging to the safety fragment of LTL (over both finite and infinite words).

Abstract:
AbstractDrawing both on the history of women’s education and on the interdisciplinary concept of the persona, this chapter discusses the discourses and practices that framed and limited young middle-class women’s chances of studying and becoming a learned person in late nineteenth-century Europe. It argues that in connection with the middle-class ideology of a woman’s place, a double standard of male and female scholarship prevailed. Considering the links between accepted models of femininity and new forms of professional identity, the chapter shows the development of new, if hidden, female personae at the fringes of academe, for example the persona of the supportive wife of a male academic or of the translator.

Abstract:
Due to their varying degrees of opacity, contextual dependency, and nuanced meanings, multiword expressions (MWEs) can present considerable challenges for Machine Translation (MT). The objective of this study is twofold. Firstly, it evaluates the effectiveness of MT in rendering both non-compositional (NC) and partly compositional (PC) nominal MWEs from English to Portuguese, vis-à-vis human translation (HT). Then it examines MT-generated translations that deviate from HT and verifies their adequacy. HT for compounds was conducted by supervised trainee translators seeking conventional equivalents, corroborated within the Brazilian subcorpus of the Corpus do Português. Contextualized MWEs extracted from the Corpus of Contemporary American English were subjected to MT by Google Translate and ChatGPT 3.5. When assessing NC MWEs, the findings suggest that, in terms of raw frequency, ChatGPT’s choices more frequently align with HT’s than Google’s. Additionally, ChatGPT’s mismatches exceed those of Google in terms of adequacy. As for PC MWEs, both tools produced comparable results, with a slight advantage for Google. Statistically, no significant difference was identified for NC or PC MWEs, either in terms of matches or adequacy between both MT tools. A qualitative investigation of MT mismatches from HT was carried out and demonstrated that both Google Translate and ChatGPT can sometimes recognize the idiomaticity of MWEs and propose suitable translations for PC and NC compounds. Other times, however, they fail in keeping metaphorical and conventional equivalents, frequently resorting to more literal translations. In doing so, they are also not always capable of discerning that some of their suggestions are ludicrous within the context given. Abstract:
Abstract In mechanism design, it is often necessary to accurately measure the relative motions produced by an assembly of rigid bodies connected by joints. A number of analytical tools exist for the theoretical kinematic analysis of the relative motions produced by such an assembly. However, a relatively limited number of corresponding experimental methods for handling such motions exist. Optical methods are especially useful because they do not require that the measurement system touch the assembly being analyzed. A photo-optical method, holographic interferometry, is presented for the experimental determination of finite screw displacements. The purpose of this paper is to show how double-exposure holographic interferograms can be used to provide information about screw axes for general motions of an object in three-dimensional space. This investigation deals with the translation component of a screw axis and categorizes the fringe patterns resulting from in-plane and out-of-plane translations and their combinations. The resulting screw axis for each special displacement case is computed.

Abstract:
An eight bar spatial mechanism inspired from an origami paper fold by considering the carton panels as links and creases as revolute joints is proposed. The constraint deposition and motion characteristics analyses of the eight bar spatial mechanism show that the mechanism implements one screw motion and one pure translation. The configuration space of the mechanism comprises four subspaces. Through adding different geometrical constraints to the eight bar spatial mechanism, different motions of the end-effector are limited leading to three 2-DOF and one 1-DOF motion branches. Additional geometrical constrained conditions in four motion branches with aimed motions of double translations, single translation and two single screw motions are revealed. In the first two motion branches, the eight bar spatial mechanism remains the constant relative orientations of joint-axes. However, the joint-axes of the eight bar spatial mechanism change their orientations in the last two motion branches. Kinematic analyses are discussed in four motion branches, respectively.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper describes the concept of double quaternions, an extension of quaternions, and shows how they can be used for effective three-dimensional motion interpolation. Motion interpolation using double quaternions has several advantages over the method of interpolating rotation and translation independently and then combining the results. First, double quaternions provide a conceptual framework that allows one to handle rotational and translational components in a unified manner. Second, results obtained by using double quaternions are coordinate frame invariant. Third, double quaternions allow a natural way to tradeoff robustness against accuracy. Fourth, double quaternions, being a straightforward extension of quaternions, can be integrated into several existing systems that currently use quaternions with translational components, with a only small coding effort.

Abstract:
The accuracy of actual motion of the spindle of a machine tool, a key performance index, is measured at a series of positions, and evaluated using a discrete kinematic geometry model. The kinematic geometry model, or more precisely a novel mechanism, is presented for the first time in this paper and validated using an apparatus consisting of a spindle, an artifact with double master ball and five displacement sensors as per ASME codes and standards [1]. The six kinematic parameters of the spindle with a single rotor — three translations and three rotations are obtained using the novel mechanism and the measurements. The theory of discrete kinematic geometry is employed to reveal the intrinsic properties of the trajectories traced by the characteristic lines of the rotor. In order to avoid the influences caused by the locations and directions of the measuring coordinate systems, the invariants of a discrete line-trajectory, particularly the spherical image curve and the striction curve [2], are introduced to deal with the discrete measurements. The global invariants, the approximated moving axis and the approximated fixed axis of the rotor in the error motion, independent of the assembling position of the double master balls on the rotor, are proposed to evaluate the rotational accuracy of spindles. The discrete kinematic geometry provides a new perspective and a theoretical base for assessing the accuracy of the spindle motion.

Full text
Abstract:
The field inside a Fabry-Perot cavity made of a conventional mirror and a phase conjugate mirror (PCM) is the sum of two terms, one proportional to the input wavefront, the other to its complex conjugate. Near threshold, the amplitudes of the two waves are nearly equal, while their relative phase depends on the phase of the pumps. In steady state, the interference of the input wavefront and its conjugate forms a selfreferencing interferogram having double the resolution of a conventional interferogram and little sensitivity to variations of wavefront amplitude. To a good approximation, the device displays the real part of the input. When an abrupt change affects the input wavefront, the moire between the new and the old interferograms is momentarily displayed during the finite response time of the PCM. This moire can be used to measure wavefront perturbations or shifts in beam alignments. To measure the motion of an object against a stationary background, a transducer (LCTV, for example) captures the scene at time intervals larger than the PCM response time and inputs it to the interferometer as phase information. The device then acts as a real time speckle interferometer, showing object translations as Young fringes superposed to the scene spectrum.

Abstract:
The article provides a study of the standard aspect of vocabulary usage in Ukrainian newspaper publications. The language quality in newspaper publications is an important and topical problem. The paper puts special emphasis on the language of the media which needs to be normative. The research is predetermined by the need to establish word meanings (based on the editorial practice), which is not specifically delineated in the reference literature, and to give variants of their proper usage. It is emphasized that the accuracy of word usage depends on the availability, aesthetic impact and effectiveness of newspaper publications. The research analyses proper usage of linguistic expressions in different publications of «DEN’», «DZERKALO TYZHNYA», «EXPRESS» newspapers, particularly the usage of nouns TENSION (napruha), DIFFERENCE (riznytsia), NUMBER (chyslo). Meanings of all these words are not explicitly delineated in the reference literature. There are a lot of doubts about the proper usage of these linguistic expressions in the editorial work. Certain Recommendations regarding the correct usage of researchable forms have been suggested. The analysis of defining dictionaries, translation dictionaries, thesaurus as well as other reference books, is based on the acquired editorial experience, that enables to define the meaning of the lexems TENSION (napruha), DIFFERENCE (riznytsia), NUMBER (chyslo) under the study and to suggest correct compliant forms to the selected examples of their usage in the publications of «DEN’», «DZERKALO TYZHNYA», «EXPRESS» newspapers (over 70 sentence constructions).
