Abstract:
4133 Background: Due to the small anatomic size, multiplicity of epitheliums, and suboptimal diagnostics determining the site of origin of PAA is a challenge. We investigated the ability of a 92-gene RT-PCR assay (CancerTYPE ID) to categorize PAA and to prognostically stratify ampullary adenocarcinomas. Methods: 171 PAA patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomies were included; samples were histopathologically verified for tumor subtype determination: pancreatic (PAN), extrahepatic biliary (EB), ampullary (AMP), or duodenal (DOUD). Blinded FFPE tumor sections underwent molecular testing. Analytical sets were an initial 45 PAA set evaluating concordance to histopathological tumor types and prognostic performance, and a second set of 126 AMP and DOUD adenocarcinoma for validation of prognostic performance. Results: Of the initial 45 patient cohort, molecular classification of 43 (96%) evaluable samples (13 AMP, 10 PAN, 10 EB, 10 DOUD) showed 91% concordance: AMP [5 intestinal (int), 7 pancreaticobiliary (pb)], PAN [10 pb], DOUD [3 int, 7 gastroesophageal (ge)], EB [7 pb]. The 92-gene assay was prognostic with a median OS of 70 m for ge/int cases vs. 32 m for pb cases, P=0.05. Discordant classifications were ge for 1 AMP and 2 EB samples, and ovary for 1 EB case. Previous unsupervised RNA hierarchical clustering (Overman GI ASCO 2011 a161) of all 13 AMP cases had identified two prognostic groups (a good-prognosis int-like and a poor-prognosis pb-like), which were identical to the 92-gene classification for 12 of the 13 cases. Conclusions: In the initial cohort of 45 patients, the 92-gene assay demonstrated diagnostic utility for molecular site-of-origin classification of PAA; evaluation of the remaining 126 ampullary and duodenal cases will be presented. Results support exploration of this approach for the management of metastatic PAA (in which pathologic review of a primary resection specimen is not an option). Molecular classification of ampullary adenocarcinomas into intestinal and pancreaticobiliary subgroups is prognostically relevant; these and the gastric-like molecular profile of duodenal adenocarcinomas may have therapeutic implications.

ObjectivesThis study aimed to compare and evaluate any differences in clinical and radiological outcomes between three surgical techniques of cranio-cervical decompression (CCD) in adults with symptomatic Chiari malformation type I (CM1).DesignRetrospective review using the theatre management system (ORSOS) and records of the patients who underwent CCD for CM1 from January 2011 to January 2018.SubjectsPatients over 16 years of age who underwent CCD secondary to CM1 diagnosed by clinical and radiological criteria.MethodsPatients were divided in three cohorts according the operative technique used: an extradural osteo-ligamentous decompression (BD), BD plus dural opening either without duroplasty (DOWD) or with watertight augmentative duroplasty (DOPD). The primary clinical outcome was measured by utilizing the Chicago Chiari Outcome Scale (CCOS). Syrinx outcome was measured on post-op MRI. Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS 24 with α=0.05.ResultsFifty-two adults underwent fifty-three CCD: 7 BD, 29 DOWD, 17 DOPD. Median follow-up was 12 months (IQR 6–23). Patients who underwent BD or DOPD had a shorter median hospital stay (6 days) than DOWD (11 days). Median CCOS was lower following DOWD (13) compared to BD (14) and DOPD (15). Post-operative complications were higher in DOWD (51.7%) compared to DOPD (17.5%).ConclusionsBetter clinical outcomes, lower complication risk and shorter duration of hospital stay were associated with DOPD. Prospective randomized studies could confirm these findings.

Această sărbătoare a fost o bună ocazie pentru organizarea a două conferințe, una derulată la Universitatea de Științe Agricole și Medicină Veterinară din Timișoara (15 noiembrie) și cealaltă, o săptămână mai târziu (22 noiembrie) susținută la Academia de Științe Agricole și Silvice „Gheorghe Ionescu- Șișești”. Prima conferință a concentrat mulți oameni de știință din România care au susținut zece lucrări diferite, axate pe diferite aspecte ale ecologiei forestiere aplicate, în timp ce a doua a fost mai restrictivă în ceea ce privește standardele științifice: doar patru lucrări au fost permise și subiectele lor au fost strict legate de populație, biocenoze și ecosisteme.

Opinia noastră sau, dacă ne este îngăduit să-i spunem astfel, cercetarea noastră debutează cu câteva aspecte introductive. Ea continuă cu o a doua secțiune, în care cititorul va observa un soi de dialog între APIA și First Investment Bank AD; cele două entități au discutat pe următoarea temă: ar trebui să fie întrebată ÎCCJ dacă scrisoarea de garanție este titlu executoriu? A treia secțiune evidențiază că o instanță română a hotărât să se adreseze ÎCCJ, astfel încât cea din urmă să stabilească răspunsul la interogația expusă. În secțiunea a patra, încercăm să stabilim dacă art. 120 din OUG nr. 99/2006 i se aplică unei scrisori de garanție. În cea de-a cincea, concluzionăm că art. 120 îi poate fi aplicat unei scrisori de garanție, dar numai dacă contractul de bază este unul de credit. A șasea secțiune subliniază decizia ÎCCJ și se încheie cu niște hrană pentru minte.

În cea de a doua jumătate a secolului al XX-lea, societatea românească a fost marcată de două evenimente care i-au marcat destinul: instaurarea regimului comunist, după abdicarea Regelui Mihai I în 1948, și Revoluția Română din 1989, care a marcat sfârșitul acestui regim. Monodia bizantină are o tradiție milenară în această zonă a Europei, iar contribuția psalților autohtoni la perpetuarea muzicii de strană a Bisericii Ortodoxe – inclusiv prin creații proprii – este atestată de numeroasele manuscrise redactate de români și de tipăriturile ultimelor două secole. Creația muzicală redată cu notația neumatică specifică Bisericii Ortodoxe s-a manifestat în România, în secolul al XX-lea, cu discontinuități datorate evenimentelor istorice amintite. Cântarea de strană, în stilul psaltic tradițional, a supraviețuit, deși a fost afectată de hotărârile luate de Partidul Comunist, în privința Bisericii, respectiv de încercarea de uniformizare a muzicii de strană. Lucrarea surprinde felul în care s-a reușit păstrarea tradiției și perpetuarea muzicii bisericești în dificila perioadă comunistă, insistând asupra creației muzicale religioase redată cu notația neumatică și asupra unor particularități specifice perioadei, datorate regimului politic. Muzicienii formați înainte de instaurarea comunismului – de dascăli păstrători ai bunei tradiții de cântare psaltică, în școli mănăstirești și seminarii teologice prestigioase din perioada interbelică – au fost liantul care a asigurat revigorarea rapidă a muzicii de tradiție bizantină în ultimul deceniu al secolului al XX-lea și au îmbogățit repertoriul stranelor românești cu valoroase creații originale.

Abstract:
In the 1970s and 1980s, Jean-Pierre Serre formulated a conjecture connecting two-dimensional Galois representations and modular forms. The conjecture came to be known as Serre's modularity conjecture. It was recently proved by Khare and Wintenberger in 2008. Serre's conjecture has various important consequences in number theory. Most notably, it played a key role in the proof of Fermat's last theorem. A natural question is, what is the analogue of Serre's conjecture for higher dimensional Galois representations? In 2002, Ash, Doud and Pollack formulated a precise statement for a higher dimensional analogue of Serre's conjecture. They also provided numerous computational examples as evidence for this generalized conjecture. We consider the three-dimensional version of the Ash-Doud-Pollack conjecture. We find specific examples of three-dimensional Galois representations and computationally verify the generalized conjecture in all these examples.

The purpose of this paper is to provide new examples supporting a conjecture of Ash, Doud, and Pollack. This conjecture involves Galois representations taking Gal(Q bar/Q) to the general linear group of 3 x 3 matrices in characterisic 2, and our examples are where complex conjugation is mapped to the identity. Since this case has not yet been examined, the results of this paper are quite significant.

Abstract:
Doug and Mike Starn: Evolution from Photography to Public Art investigates the pioneering installations and public art by Doug and Mike Starn, establishes their position within the complete oeuvre and examines the confluence of media they have worked in, while situating the artists and their work within the contemporary art historic context. Intrinsic characteristics of the Starn brothers’ work are the principles of interconnectedness, continuity, duality and change, a continuous evolution combined with a stunning ability to reinvent their work, redefining entire art genres in the process. Identical twins Doug and Mike Starn, born in 1961 and included in the 1987 Whitney Biennial at the age of 26, work collaboratively. The primary medium of photography characterizes their early work, evolving in the 1990s to include artist books, large-scale video projections, and installations. Incidentally, their first permanent public art commission is tied to the reconstruction of New York’s infrastructure following the tragedy of September 11, 2001. The goal is to delineate context, process, and significance of the artists’ foray into public art. An analysis and interpretation of artistic production, context, partnerships, process, scale and reception will reveal the transition from stellar gallery production to installation art and exceptional public art. Highlights of the pair’s stellar career include the completion of two important public art projects in New York City in 2008 and 2010, one permanent and one temporary: the permanent public art environment See it split, see it change on the concourse of South Ferry Subway Station at the tip of Manhattan and the temporary, monumental Big Bambú installation on the Metropolitan Museum’s roof garden. These outstanding works were preceded by years of artistic inquiry and development in the genre of photography, whose path the study explores.
Das Œuvre von Doug und Mike Starn spannt den Bogen von der Fotografie zur Kunst am Bau und zur Kunst im öffentlichen Raum. Zwischen diesen Polen bewegt sich die Entwicklung der Künstlerzwillinge, die sich in ihrer Zusammenarbeit mit den Themen Licht, Kontinuität und Vergänglichkeit beschäftigen. Als junge Künstler entwickelten sie groß-formatige, mit Klebeband zusammengesetzte Foto-Collagen, die bereits 1987 zur Beteiligung am Whitney Biennial führten. Zu den Höhepunkten ihres künstlerischen Schaffens gehören zwei wichtige Projekte im öffentlichen Raum mit Standort New York. See it split, see it change (2008) wurde für die South Ferry Transitstation geschaffen und die monumentale, temporäre Installation Big Bambú (2010) war auf dem Dach des Metropolitan Museum of Art installiert. Ersteres Werk ist die umfangreichste Glasinstallation der New Yorker öffentlichen Verkehrsbetriebe, letzteres die größte Außenausstellung in der Geschichte des Metropolitan Museum. Den bahnbrechenden Arbeiten der Starns gingen zwei Jahrzehnte künstlerischer Entwicklung voraus, deren Zusammenhang mit dem späteren Werk in dieser Studie aufgezeigt wird. Kommunerna ska enligt Kommunallagen inte redovisa sina pensionsskulder som uppstått före 1998 som en skuld, utan ska istället redovisa den som en post inom linjen på balansräkningen.

Följden av detta blir att det egna kapitalet blir högre än vad det skulle varit om pensionsskulden var medräknad. Precis så agerar också de flesta kommunerna vid budgetering, som om skulden inte existerar, och använder ekonomiska resurser som inte finns. Problemet blir att en undanträngning av de kommunala verksamheterna riskerar att ske. Varifrån ska kommunen få pengar?

Kan man säga att dagens kommunala redovisningsregler upprätthåller krav om balanserad budget? Bygger kommunerna luftslott av ekonomiska resurser som de enligt lag inte behöver ta hänsyn till? Med ett kommunalt självstyre enligt regeringsformen anses det vara kommunernas ansvar att själva styra sin verksamhet. Uppsatsen kommer att behandla Sveriges alla kommuner i en studie om hur balanserad deras ekonomi är och om de har god ekonomisk hushållning. En del kommuner har valt att med stöd av grundlagen styra kommunen som de själva anser vara mest rätt enligt gällande redovisningsprinciper. Därmed går de emot Lagen om kommunal redovisning och har en högre ambition att ge en rättvisande bild av verksamhetens ekonomiska ställning.

Genom att studera de lagar och rekommendationer som kommunerna skall följa i sin redovisning har författarna erhållit kunskap för att möjliggöra studien. En jämförelse mellan allmän redovisningsteori och empiri har gjorts och sedan analyserats. Studien visar att balanskravet och god ekonomisk hushållning baseras på en skev bild av verkligheten. Rättvisande bild är endast ett uttryck som få kommuner kan stå för.

In this paper the authors examine three questions: 1) Is stealth marketing messages posing as status updates on Facebook a more effective way of advertising than traditional web banners? 2) What impact has learning about stealth marketing practices in social media on consumer attitude and post purchase behaviour? And finally 3) Will different generations respond differently to these questions? Our findings show that stealth marketing in social media is not more effective than traditional web banners. Furthermore, the result indicates that when consumers find out about stealth marketing practices it will have a negative impact on future purchase intensions and brand image. Most consumers will also have strong feelings of being deceived, which could instigate harmful post purchase behaviour such as negative word-of-mouth and possibly, based on some earlier cases, boycotts. The result of our research shows that the brand perceptions and future purchase intentions of Generation Y, persons between 18 and 30 years of age, are affected in a less negative way than the brand perceptions and future purchase intentions of older generations when finding out about stealth marketing practices in social media. However Generation Y:s reaction is still negative and they do consider traditional web banners to be more credible than status updates on Facebook. Thus contrary to traditional marketing literature and popular opinion in the advertising industry, our findings strongly indicate that stealth marketing in social media is not the right way to reach any generation, and certainly not Generation Y.

Abstract:
Cette thèse présente le développement et la caractérisation d'échantillons modèles pour l'étude des nanocomposites (NC) magnétiques dur-doux. Ces matériaux sont d'un grand intérêt, compte tenu de leurs applications potentielles en tant qu'aimants haute performance. Cependant, malgré ce grand potentiel, les propriétés des NC dur-doux rapportées dans la littérature sont modestes par rapport à celles prédites par les modèles micromagnétiques. Dans ce travail, nous utilisons des outils avancés de nanofabrication et de caractérisation pour développer des échantillons modèles, susceptibles de faire le lien de entre les simulations et les expériences. Quatre réseaux différents de nano-bâtonnets magnétiques doux allongés (FeCo ou Co) (épaisseur = 10 nm) ont été produits par lithographie électronique et évaporation. Pour étudier l'influence du contenu et des dimensions des nano-bâtonnets, la largeur (w) a été modifiée entre 25 et 120 nm, la longueur (l) entre 200 et 400 nm et la distance inter-bâtonnets (d) entre 50 et 200 nm. Le rapport volumique de la phase douce varie de 2 à 11%. Tous les nano-bâtonnets ont été couverts d'une couche de 3 nm d'Au afin d'éviter l'oxydation lors du transfert de l'échantillon de la lithographie vers les chambres de dépôt. La couche d’or a été gravée dans la chambre de pulvérisation juste avant le dépôt de la couche magnétique dure (FePt-25 ou 50 nm) au-dessus des nano-bâtonnets. Une seconde étape de lithographie a été développée pour limiter la localisation de la phase magnétique dure à l'endroit où se trouvent les réseaux de nano-bâtonnets. Une cellule élémentaire du NC a une surface d'environ 5x5 µm2, et cette cellule est répétée pour avoir une surface d'échantillon globale de quelques mm2, dont le signal magnétique est suffisant pour les mesures de magnétométrie globale. Un processus de recuit post-croissance favorise la formation de la phase magnétique dure L10 FePt . Plus la fraction volumique de nano-bâtonnets est élevée, plus la coercivité est faible et plus la rémanence est élevée. Des courbes de retournement du premier ordre (FORC) ont été obtenues pour les échantillons avec une fraction volumique comparable de phase magnétique douce, mais avec une taille de nano-bâtonnets différente. Bien que les échantillons aient des cycles d'hystérésis similaires, les diagrammes FORC montrent que les distributions de champ de retournement sont assez distinctes. La fabrication et l'analyse d'un échantillon de référence avec des nano-bâtonnets non magnétiques de Pt n'indiquent aucune influence de la topographie globale de l'échantillon sur les propriétés de la matrice dure. L'imagerie TEM et la cartographie chimique des coupes transversales préparées par FIB ont révélé une diffusion de type Kirkendall dans les NC avec les plus petits nano-bâtonnets. Une étude MFM sur la même cellule élémentaire de NC dans différents états rémanents , a été réalisée sur des réseaux de NC (dur / doux et dur / non magnétique) et un film de micro-motifs durs (.i.e. pas de nano-bâtonnets). L'évolution des motifs magnétiques a été corrélée avec les champs de fuite produits par la matrice magnétique dure et les nano-bâtonnets intégrés. Les résultats obtenus avec des méthodes de caractérisation magnétique globale (cycles d'hystérésis et FORC) et locale (MFM), combinés à une caractérisation structurale détaillée obtenue par TEM, ont permis d'analyser l'impact des dimensions, de la périodicité, de la concentration et du matériau constitutif des nano-bâtonnets intégrés dans la matrice magnétique dure. This thesis presents the development and characterization of model samples for the study of hard-soft magnetic nanocomposites. These materials are of great interest, considering their potential applications as high performance magnets. However, even with this great potential, the properties of hard-soft nanocomposites reported in the literature are modest compared to those predicted by micromagnetic models. In this work, we use advanced nanofabrication and characterization tools to develop model samples, capable of bridging the understanding between models and experiments. Four different arrays with elongated soft magnetic nano-rods (FeCo or Co) (thickness = 10 nm) were produced by e-beam lithography and evaporation. To study the influence of the content and the dimensions of the nano-rods, the width (w) was varied between 25 and 120 nm, the length (l) between 200 and 400 nm and the inter-rod distance (d) between 50 and 200 nm. The volume content of the soft phase ranged from 2 to 11%. All the nano-rods were capped with a 3 nm layer of Au in order to prevent oxidation during sample transfer from the lithography to the deposition chambers. The Au layer was etched in the sputtering chamber just prior to deposition of the hard magnetic layer (FePt- 25 or 50 nm) on top of the nano-rods. A second lithography step was developed to limit the location of the hard magnetic phase to where the nano-rods arrays are positioned. A unit piece of the nanocomposite has a surface area of roughly 5x5 µm2, and the unit was repeated to have an overall sample surface area of a few mm2 , to have sufficient magnetic signal for global magnetometry measurements. A post-annealing process promotes the formation of the L10 FePt hard magnetic phase. The higher the volume content of nano-rods, the lower the coercivity and the higher the remanence. First Order Reversal Curves (FORC) were obtained for the samples with comparable volume content of soft magnetic phase, but with different nano-rod size. Although the samples have similar hysteresis cycles, the FORC diagrams show that the switching field distributions are quite distinct. The sample with nano-rod width = 120 nm shows switching fields extending up to 250 mT and a single peak around µ0HC = 0 T, while the sample with nano-rod width = 25 nm has two peaks in switching field, centred at µ0HC = 0 T and µ0HC = 500 mT. Fabrication and analysis of a reference sample with Pt non-magnetic nano-rods indicates no influence of the overall sample topography on the hard matrix properties. TEM imaging and chemical mapping of FIB-prepared cross sections revealed Kirkendall-like diffusion in the nanocomposites with the smallest nano-rods. An MFM study which involved probing the same nanocomposite unit in different remnant states, was carried out on nanocomposites arrays (hard/soft and hard/non-magnetic) and a micro-patterned hard film (.i.e. no nano-rods). The experimental setup included a homemade in-situ in-plane pulsed magnetic field source. The evolution in magnetic patterns was correlated with the stray fields produced by the hard magnetic matrix and the embedded nano-rods. The results obtained with global (hysteresis loops and FORC) and local (MFM) magnetic characterization methods, combined with detailed structural characterization obtained by TEM, made it possible to analyze the impact of dimensions, periodicity, concentration, and the constituent material of the nano-rods embedded in the hard magnetic matrix. A trade-off between reducing the dimensions of the soft phase to favour exchange coupling and increasing them to minimize diffusion during annealing to form the hard phase formation, is a bottleneck for the development of these model materials

Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, when exposed to the sun, use solar energy for operation, processing, and communication, and with excess energy they charge their batteries. However, when satellites are in an area with no sunlight, called eclipse areas, they operate using only their battery power. The batteries have limitations on the amount of recharges/discharges, also known as the depth of discharge (DOD) cycle. Therefore, this restricts the useful life of the batteries themselves and also of the satellites.In this paper, we propose two different efficient routing methods for LEO satellite networks, which optimize traffic in order to reduce the DOD of satellites. We improved the Energy and Capacity Aware Routing (ECARS) metric, existing in the literature, by adding the Energy Routing prUning ( DOD and Energy Routing penAlty ( DOD methods. These proposed methods prune and penalize, respectively, the links whose satellites have reached a certain minimum battery charge threshold. With this procedure, we avoid over discharging the satellites’ battery, and thus, the lifetime is extended.Simulations results show that ERU DOD and ERA DOD can increase the satellites’ batteries lifetime by more than 54% and 10%, respectively. Moreover, the average residual energy obtained when comparing our ERU DOD and ERA DOD proposals with the ECARS proposal, resulted in gains greater than 113% and 29%, respectively.

Based on the Downhole Oscillating Device (DOD) newly developed for purpose of improving drilling efficiency, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation is conducted. The axial vibration force created by the DOD is thoroughly investigated. The simulation is focused on the valve part which generates the fluid pressure pulsations. Fluid flow rate and/or back pressure is applied to the model as boundary conditions. The DOD’s application will also induce the inertia phenomenon of the fluid column above the tool. This phenomenon is also studied based on parametric analysis. Within the simulation results, a dynamic model is developed to further investigate the effect of the oscillating force generated by the DOD on drilling efficiency. Nonlinearities in the bit-rock interaction are taken into account in the model. Simulation results show that application of the DOD in drilling may improve the ROP at least by 5%.
