Abstract:
Abstract Introduction During the last decade, our national Joint Trauma System (JTS) has served as the reference body for trauma care throughout our military. The JTS has published 63 Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) on its website to set standards and to provide guidance for deployed providers in the management of challenging clinical scenarios. Given that there is limited burn expertise in the military, the JTS CPGs are a major source of information for most providers. It has been possible to track CPG download activity for over a year. We hypothesized that assessment of download activity would reflect the relative value of JTS CPGs. In particular, we aimed to document the value of burn-related CPGs. Methods Download activity was determined from data pulled for jts.amedd.army.mil, utilizing Google’s Digital Analytics Program (DAP), for 27 Feb 2018 to 3 Sep 2019. After refining results from all of the military down to jts.amedd.army.mil, a search was then launched to determine the top activities on the JTS webpage. An additional refinement was conducted to establish search-date parameters. Data were exported into an Excel spreadsheet for further analysis. The data were analyzed for specific titles and numbers of downloads; those downloads consistently appearing at the top of the download activity were split out and detailed. Results Downloading was consistently the top “event” or tangible action on the site. In 17 months, total CPG downloads from the JTS website were 75,901. Burn-related CPGs and supporting documents (e.g. Lund-Browder chart; resuscitation flowsheet) were downloaded 6,177 times. The next most frequently downloaded CPG was the traumatic brain injury (TBI) CPG, which was downloaded 6,041 times. If each guideline had equal distribution of downloads, they would each be downloaded 1,205 times; burn-related CPGs were download 5 times more frequently than the mean. Conclusions This study emphasizes the importance of burn-related CPGs to providers throughout the global continuum of care. These providers frequently work in expeditionary, remote and austere environments without rapid access to specialty surgical expertise. The use of detailed CPGs can help bridge this gap. Applicability of Research to Practice This model can be used for remote rural areas nationally and internationally. Computer-based tracking of CPG and educational material downloads can, furthermore, be used to identify ongoing educational needs.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between electronic journal downloads and citations and whether online electronic resource usage can be adopted as an alternative to citation for evaluation of scholarly discourse. Design/methodology/approach A consolidated 16 publishers’ COUNTER usage data of UGC-Infonet members was collected from INFLIBNET Centre. The usage was meticulously filtered from UGC-subscribed journals and institutional subscriptions. The quantitative data were analysed to establish the relationship between download, impact factor (IF) and price. Multiple regression analysis was used to assess the influence of price and IF on usage and to predict the usage when they are known and the threshold for significance was set at p < 0.05. Findings There exists a relationship between IF and downloads of journals in UGC-Infonet. Journal IF and price significantly influence usage, where journal IF plays an important role in the intensity of the use. Also, the top 25 hottest downloaded papers were journals with IF; hence, no journal without IF featured in the top 25 most downloaded journals in the consortia. The relationship between the top 25 IF journals in the consortia and download is strong (r = 0.368537). Originality/value The only account that reports on the relationship between journal IFs and downloads for UGC-Infonet consortia. Also, the influence of usage behaviour with respect to citation and price of a journal.

ABSTRACT This paper presents the Download Parser, a tool for handling text downloads from large online databases. Many universities have access to full-text databases which allow the user to search their holdings and then view and ideally download the full text of relevant articles, but there are important problems in practice in managing such downloads, because of factors such as duplication, unevenness of formatting standards, lack of documentation. The tool under discussion was devised to parse downloads, clean them up and standardise them, identify headlines and insert suitably marked-up headers for corpus analysis.

Abstract:
Abstract Objective Scientific journals and authors are frequently judged on ‘impact’. Commonly used traditional metrics are the Impact Factor and H-index. However, both take several years to formulate and have many limitations. Recently, Altmetric—a metric that measures impact in a non-traditional way—has gained popularity. This project aims to describe the relationships between subject matter, citations, downloads and Altmetric within rheumatology. Methods Data from publications in Rheumatology were used. Articles published from 2010 to 2015 were reviewed. Data were analysed using Stata 14.2 (StataCorp, College Station, TX, USA). Correlation between citations, downloads and Altmetric were quantified using linear regression, comparing across disease topics. Relationship between downloads and months since publications were described using negative binomial regression, clustering on individual articles. Results A total of 1460 Basic Science and Clinical Science articles were identified, with the number of citations, downloads and Altmetric scores. There were no correlations between disease topic and downloads (R2 = 0.016, P = 0.03), citations (R2 = 0.011, P = 0.29) or Altmetric (R2 = 0.025, P = 0.02). A statistically significant positive association was seen between the number of citations and downloads (R2 = 0.29, P < 0.001). No correlations were seen between Altmetric and downloads (R2 = 0.028, P < 0.001) or citations (R2 = 0.004, P = 0.445). Conclusion Disease area did not correlate with any of the metrics compared. Correlations were apparent with clear links between downloads and citations. Altmetric identified different articles as high impact compared with citation or download metrics. In conclusion: tweeting about your research does not appear to influence citations.

Abstract:
Abstract The scientific knowledge is disseminated by research papers. Most of the research literature is copyrighted by publishers and avail- able only through paywalls. Recently, some websites offer most of the recent content for free. One of them is the controversial website Sci-Hub that enables access to more than 47 million pirated research papers. In April 2016, Science Magazine published an article on Sci-Hub activity over the period of six months and publicly released the Sci-Hub’s server log data. The mentioned paper aggregates the view that relies on all downloads and for all fields of study, but these findings might be hiding interesting patterns within computer science. The mentioned Sci-Hub log data was used in this paper to analyse downloads of computer science papers based on DBLP’s list of computer science publications. The top downloads of computer science papers were analysed, together with the geographical location of Sci-Hub users, the most downloaded publishers, types of papers downloaded, and downloads of computer science papers per publication year. The results of this research can be used to improve legal access to the most relevant scientific repositories or journals for the computer science field.

Abstract:
<p> Despite the continued demand for open source security software, a gap in the identification of success factors related to the success of open source security software persists. There are no studies that accurately assess the extent of this persistent gap, particularly with respect to the strength of the relationships of open source software development attributes and the number of security software downloads. The research conducted in this study investigates the strength of the relationships of particular open source software project development factors against a particular measure of open source security software success. This research focuses on open source software development with an emphasis on anti-virus, firewall and intrusion detection software. Additionally, reviewed in this study are some key cyber-security events that have shaped the cyber landscape as well as descriptions of some security technologies that have emerged as a result of those events. A level of correlation between the dependent variable <i>number of software downloads</i> and the independent variables <i>project team size</i> and <i>number of software project events</i> are analyzed in this research. </p>

Nelms, Terry Lee. "Improving detection and annotation of malware downloads and infections through deep packet inspection." Diss., Georgia Institute of Technology, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/1853/54941.

Full text
Abstract:
Malware continues to be one of the primary tools employed by attackers. It is used in attacks ranging from click fraud to nation state espionage. Malware infects hosts over the network through drive-by downloads and social engineering. These infected hosts communicate with remote command and control (C&C) servers to perform tasks and exfiltrate data. Malware's reliance on the network provides an opportunity for the detection and annotation of malicious communication. This thesis presents four main contributions. First, we design and implement a novel incident investigation system, named WebWitness. It automatically traces back and labels the sequence of events (e.g., visited web pages) preceding malware downloads to highlight how users reach attack pages on the web; providing a better understanding of current attack trends and aiding in the development of more effective defenses. Second, we conduct the first systematic study of modern web based social engineering malware download attacks. From this study we develop a categorization system for classifying social engineering downloads and use it to measure attack properties. From these measurements we show that it is possible to detect the majority of social engineering downloads using features from the download path. Third, we design and implement ExecScent, a novel system for mining new malware C&C domains from live networks. ExecScent automatically learns C&C traffic models that can adapt to the deployment network's traffic. This adaptive approach allows us to greatly reduce the false positives while maintaining a high number of true positives. Lastly, we develop a new packet scheduling algorithm for deep packet inspection that maximizes throughput by optimizing for cache affinity. By scheduling for cache affinity, we are able to deploy our systems on multi-gigabit networks.

Abstract:
In an automotive context today’s need of testing functions while in factory, correcting faults in the workshop or adding extra value in the aftermarket makes it very important to easily be able to download new software to the electronic control units in vehicles. In the platform for standard automotive software development called AUTOSAR, two known protocols are presented to specify the procedure on how to implement this download operation: Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS) and the Universal Measurement and Calibration Protocol (XCP). However the part of the UDS and XCP standards that is about reprogramming is not completely a part of the AUTOSAR standard yet. In this thesis, UDS and XCP have been compared to evaluate which of the two that has most support in AUTOSAR today and are most likely to be fully integrated into AUTOSAR in the future. Since UDS already has support in AUTOSAR for some of the functions needed for reprogramming and because of the fact that UDS is a part of the extensively used On-board Diagnostic standard (OBD-II), UDS is chosen to be the most suitable protocol for implementing reprogramming functionality according to AUTOSAR. A bootloader with the ability to download data has been developed using only relevant functions from UDS and following the AUTOSAR specifications where it is applicable.<br>För att kunna testa fordonsfunktioner i fabriken, åtgärda mjukvarufel under service eller för att uppgradera fordonet med nya funktioner är det viktigt att kunna ladda ner ny mjukvara till fordonets styrsystem.

Abstract:
By analyzing a novel dataset on publications by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), we shed light on the extent to which the knowledge production of a multilateral development bank can reach its beneficiaries. We find that IDB publications are downloaded mostly in the American continent, with Colombia, Peru, Mexico and the United States leading the ranking. Moreover, during the COVID-19 pandemic downloads of IDB publications increased, both in the world and in Latin America and the Caribbean. Some characteristics of publications are significantly associated with higher numbers of downloads, such as the language of publications: documents in at least two languages or in Spanish only are downloaded more often than documents in English only, suggesting that it is important to disseminate research in the language of the targeted audience. As for the online discussion on the IDB, we find that mentions of the IDB touch different sectors important for development (especially modernization of the state, health, labor markets and financial markets), they increase when a document is published, and also when a loan is approved.

Abstract:
AUTHORVincent-Lancrin, StéphanDATEOct 2021DOWNLOAD:English (63 downloads)DOIhttp://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0003743Critical thinking has become key to the skill set that people should develop not only to have better prospects in the labor market, but also a better personal and civic life. This brief shows how policymakers and teachers can help students develop their critical thinking skills. First, this brief defines critical thinking skills. Then, the brief shows how the concept can be translated into teacher-friendly rubrics to support them to design or redesign better lessons but also to assess their students. Lastly, the brief highlights 10 concrete steps for policymakers, school principals, and teachers to better prepare students for the future with critical thinking skills and improve the quality of their education. While applied to the fostering and assessing of students critical thinking skills, those 10 steps can be generalized to the implementation of other forms of educational innovation, notably competency-based curricula.

Abstract:
Willingness to download health applications could be increased by addressing data privacy concerns indirectly. In Mexico, a survey experiment explored different priming prompts and their effect on willingness to download a diagnostic and tracing app. The survey experiment revealed that mentioning government efforts on data privacy can backfire. Surprisingly, reminding people of social media's usefulness did not affect people's willingness to download the app.
