Cold drawn wires were produced by drawing the pearlitic wire rod (5.5 mm diameter). Cold drawing involved multiple stages to a final drawing strain of ≈ 2.5. The cold drawing alters the pearlite morphology. During the wire drawing, the change in morphology is location dependent. This will create the gradient in stain and strain mode between the surface and the center. This led to have a strain partition among ferrite and cementite phases. The strain partitioning plays a major role in the final tensile and torsional performance of the cod drawn wire. The present work dealt with the experimental

In the multi-pass wire drawing process, the diameter of a wire is decreased by continuously passing it through progressively smaller drawing dies. Although the deformation depends on the process variables, in most wire drawing processes, the wire deformation is concentrated on the surface by its direct contact with the drawing dies, causing a nonlinear distribution of radial direction effective strain from the center to the surface. In this study, a new model for predicting this effective strain in two-pass drawn wire was derived based on the upper bound method, and a finite element analysis a

Abstract:
The essay concerns two drawings by the Florentine baroque painters Cesare and Pietro Dandini, coming from the Dandini-Targioni Tozzetti collection. The naturalist Giovanni Targioni Tozzetti (1712-1783), consort of Maria Brigida, daughter of Ottaviano Dandini, brought together the impressive set of drawings belonging to the Dandini family, which were divided into twenty volumes, probably dismembered in the Nineteenth century. The paper presents two drawings which belonged to that collection: a sheet in sanguine by Cesare Dandini depicting a male figure, and a drawing by Pier Dandini depicting The glory of Saint Verdiana, a preparatory study for an altarpiece that was part of a series of large canvases executed by Pier Dandini between 1706 and 1710 for the basilica of Santa Trinita in Florence.

Abstract:
This chapter reviews the most commonly utilized historical example of grand strategy—the early Cold War—and revisits the period's most frequently analyzed protagonists: George Kennan, Walter Lippmann, and Dean Acheson. However, it is not about that era's seminal strategic doctrine: containment. Instead, it explores the relationship between law and power and argues for a new understanding of the intellectual architecture of the early Cold War. At mid-century, American liberals shared a particular vocabulary about strategy—about realism itself—that reflected specific claims about natural law, sovereign interdependence, and World War I. Drawing on rarely examined primary documents, the chapter excavates this conversation and suggests that these assumptions informed how American leaders defined their aspirations and their capabilities. At a time when US leaders are profoundly divided over the country's foreign policy, there is value in revisiting the concepts that animated and circumscribed an earlier generation's strategic thought.

Abstract:
“Waste Management from Center to Suburb” investigates how one humble activity illuminates multi-faceted relationships between city and suburb. It begins by reconsidering the infamous “puticuli” of Rome’s Republican Esquiline, arguing that these were not—as has long been believed—mass graves that marked the zone as a nightmarish no man’s land. The fixtures uncovered in nineteenth-century excavations are better interpreted as public cesspits, one of many contemporaneous investments in urban infrastructure, installed in a busy and well-connected district outside the growing city’s first wall. The second section moves forward in time to the early Imperial period, exploring waste management at Pompeii and elsewhere. Drawing on the results of recent excavations, it contends that the garbage mounds commonly found in Italy’s suburbs were not abandoned deposits of unwanted materials, akin to modern landfills, but active sites in an intense economy of use, reuse, and recycling, in which suburbs played a key role.

Abstract:
The CAD/BIM Technology Center receives numerous questions throughout the year regarding the development of a Record Package that shows as-built conditions. While the Center does produce Standards on the look and organization of CAD drawings that are used to show as-built conditions, users wanted guidance on the Record Package development. The Chicago District had undertaken the development of such guidance, but a formal document was never officially released. The CAD/BIM Community of Practice (CoP) Work Structure Committee finished this guidance and their efforts are reflected in this document

Abstract:
Technological innovations in sanitation are poised to address the great need for sanitation improvements in low-income countries. Worldwide, more than 2.4 billion people lack access to improved sanitation facilities. Innovative waste treatment and sanitation technologies aim to incorporate user-centered findings into technology engineering and design. Without a focus on users, even the most innovative technology solutions can encounter significant barriers to adoption. Drawing on a household survey conducted in urban slum communities of Ahmedabad, India, this research brief identifies toilet a

Abstract:
This Working Paper discusses entangled migrations as territorially and temporally entangled onto-epistemological phenomena. As a theoretical-analytical framework, it addresses the material, epistemological and ethical premises of spatial-temporal entanglements and relationality in the understanding of migration as a modern colonial phenomenon. Entangled migrations acknowledges that local migratory movements mirror global migrations in complex ways, engaging with the analysis of historical connections, territorial entrenchments, cultural confluences, and overlapping antagonistic relations acros

Abstract:
In 2011, India had more phone users (around 54 per cent of households) and television access (33 per cent) in rural areas than people with access to tap water (31 per cent) and toilet facilities (31 per cent), according to Census 2011. This clearly indicates the failure of government programmes to change the centuries-old practice of defecation in the open. This neglect of safe sanitation has had catastrophic outcomes in terms of human well-being. This case study is an analysis of the latest central government Swachch Bharat Mission - Gramin (Clean India Mission - Rural) (or SBM-G), which has

Haider, Huma. Transitional Justice and Reconciliation in the Western Balkans: Approaches, Impacts and Challenges. Institute of Development Studies (IDS), 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/k4d.2021.033.

Full text
Abstract:
Countries in the Western Balkans have engaged in various transitional justice and reconciliation initiatives to address the legacy of the wars of the 1990s and the deep political and societal divisions that persist. There is growing consensus among scholars and practitioners that in order to foster meaningful change, transitional justice must extend beyond trials (the dominant international mechanism in the region) and be more firmly anchored in affected communities with alternative sites, safe spaces, and modes of engagement. This rapid literature review presents a sample of initiatives, span

Abstract:
The main recommendations of the panel report can be summarised under four headings: 1. From Source to Sea: River systems, from their source to the sea and beyond, should form the focus for research projects, allowing the integration of all archaeological work carried out along their course. Future research should take a holistic view of the marine and maritime historic environment, from inland lakes that feed freshwater river routes, to tidal estuaries and out to the open sea. This view of the landscape/seascape encompasses a very broad range of archaeology and enables connections to be made w

Facts about adolescents from the Demographic and Health Survey—Statistical tables for program planning: Jordan 1997. Population Council, 2001. http://dx.doi.org/10.31899/pgy21.1018.

Full text
Abstract:
The Population Council initiated its work on adolescents in the mid-1990s. At that time, those advocating greater attention to adolescent issues were concerned about adolescent fertility—particularly outside of marriage—and adolescent “risk-taking” behavior. As an international scientific organization with its mandate centered around the needs of developing countries, the Council sought a more nuanced and context-specific understanding of the problems confronting adolescents in the developing world. In working with colleagues inside and outside the Council, it became clear that information on
