In the field of mechanical installation and repairing, drawing devices are often used to disassemble or push up components of various types of axie and set. Differential thread usually consists of two sets of threads, which differ in the aspect of side pitch, the movement distance of differential thread when it runs a circle should be the deviation of the two spiral side pitches. Through the application of differential thread, it enables us to make changes in the transmission of these two screw pairs making relative movement. Based on this principle, when it is made into the application of manual drawing device, it optimized structure of drawing device, receiving a better result.

Abstract:
The developmental emergence of two drawing devices was investigated in young children: the use of omission (ie not drawing any of a hidden object) to depict total occlusion and the use of hidden line elimination (HLE, ie deleting only that part of an object that is hidden from view) to depict partial occlusion in a three-dimensional scene. Three groups of school children (5, 6, and 7 years old) were tested individually with two tasks four times over a 2-year period. One task called for the omission device (to draw a cup with its handle not in view) and the other for the HLE device (to draw one ball behind and partially occluded by another). The stimuli in each task were presented in pairs, with one member of the pair showing the occluded scene and the other a canonical or not-occluded scene. Changes in the strategies used by the children to indicate the visual differences within the pairs were recorded over the four testing sessions. Children were found to use the omission device more readily with the cup task than the HLE device with the ball task. There was an age-related trend in every task in the use of the drawing device appropriate to that task. For those who did not use the drawing device appropriate for a perspective drawing, there was a tendency for each age group to favour a particular strategy for representation. The advantage of using a longitudinal design to chart the developmental trend of the emergence of these two drawing devices is discussed.

Abstract:
The differential thread is composed of two threads, which generally both rotate in clockwise direction, but their screw pairs have distinct thread pitches. When they rotate a period, the movement distance is the screw distance of the screw pairs. Through the application of differential thread, the transmission, which includes distance and force transmission, can be increased or decreased [1]. Based on this principle, when it is applied to the manual drawing device, better effects can be received. So, the multifunction manual drawing device is designed by using the principle of differential thread and it can be strengthened effectively, over 75% stronger than ordinary drawing force. The new design acquires much stronger drawing force.

The aim of work is to present and analyse assessment of the current state and at the same time the proposal of adjustments to the technology or parameters, the introduction of the wire into the drawing machine. The problem arises when the introduction of wire with a diameter of 14 mm from the material CK 67 to the drawbenches Schumag. If we introduce the wire into the drawing machines with two primary beams leads to a buckling of the wire and pack between the drawing die and the boot device. For the introduction of wire are used hydraulic boot collets, which are controlled semi-automatically. In connection with professional studies and on the basis of the calculation, simulation and practical experiment have been identified the conditions allowing the current method of deployment of wire to use.

Abstract:
As new input devices are introduced to the technological market and an increasing part of the population are familiar with the usage of digital devices, it may seem difficult to know which input devices to aim for when developing new programs and applications that use graphical interfaces. According to a previous study in this area, the computer mouse was the most preferred and performed best when tested in speed and accuracy when compared to the keyboard and drawing tablet even though the keyboard was the device most were familiar with. This paper attempted to recreate the study with the exception of testing morethings, such as number of miss-clicks, distance travelled, directional changes and time. The keyboard was replaced by a handheld controller as well. The results were that the mouse performed best yet again, and proved to be easy to use efficiently for both new and experienced users. The handheld controller was shown not to be an optimal pointing device, mostly due to it being stuck to a fixed speed and not able to accelerate. It did well in the matter of amount off miss-clicks and directional changes, which can be tied to its slow speed. The drawing tablet was well received by the new users and experienced as more accurate than the handheld device. Its results suggest that the drawing tablet could be an efficient pointing device than proven here in the hands of an experienced user, but for new users it could not perform as well as the mouse device overall.

"Responses to attention-drawing devices in multiactivity situations." Master's thesis, University of Oulu, 2018. http://urn.fi/URN:NBN:fi:oulu-201805311993.

Full text
Abstract:
This study focuses on the different ways participants respond to attention-drawing devices in multiactivity situations, as well as on the interactional practices that participants carry out in order to coordinate multiple activities when someone is seeking their attention. In this paper, ‘multiactivity’ refers to multiple, simultaneous courses of activities, which are managed and coordinated through talk and embodied actions (e.g., Haddington et al., 2014; Mondada, 2011). Additionally, ‘attention-drawing devices’ are verbal or nonverbal devices used for obtaining others’ attention (e.g., Hatch et al., 1979; Ochs et al., 1979), and in this paper, they are shown to initiate activities in interaction. This study draws on the principles of ethnomethodologically informed conversation analysis, analysing talk and embodied interaction as it occurs moment by moment in real time. The research data consist of approximately 30 hours of video material of naturally occurring family interaction recorded at homes and in cars, both in Finland and in the UK. In this study I show that participants organise multiple activities temporally and sequentially in four different ways when faced by an attention-drawing device: 1) they progress multiple activities simultaneously, 2) they suspend the initial activity in order to carry out an activity introduced by the attention-drawing device, 3) they organise multiple activities successively, or 4) they ignore the attention-drawing device and continue progressing the initial activity. Furthermore, I present that based on my data, participants often use different verbal and nonverbal practices for coordinating each activity and displaying their involvement in multiactivity situations to the ones seeking their attention
Tutkimusmetodina on käytetty etnometodologista keskustelunanalyysiä. Aineiston analyysin perustella tutkimuksessa esitetään, että monitoimintatilanteissa huomionkohdistimiin reagoidaan järjestämällä useat toimintalinjat neljällä eri tavalla: 1) useita toimintalinjoja pyritään edistämään samanaikaisesti, 2) ensimmäinen toimintalinja keskeytetään, jotta huomionkohdistimen tuomaan toimintalinjaan voitaisiin vastata, 3) toimintalinjojat järjestetään siten, että ensimmäinen toiminta saatetaan loppuun ennen huomionkohdistamiseen vastaamista, ja 4) huomionkohdistin jätetään huomiotta ja aikaisemman toimintalinjan edistämistä jatketaan. Tämän lisäksi tutkimuksessa osoitetaan, että ihmiset käyttävät useita eri verbaalisia ja nonverbaalisia keinoja järjestääkseen useita risteäviä toimintalinjoja ja eksplikoidakseen muille osallisuutensa monitoimintatilanteessa

Zhang, Min. "An investigation of query-by-drawing image search on mobile devices." Thesis, University of Nottingham, 2016. http://eprints.nottingham.ac.uk/46936/.

Full text
Abstract:
The rapid growth of touchscreen mobile devices has opened up many new opportunities for exploring Content-based Image Retrieval (CBIR) techniques, e.g., it has enabled the development of intuitive and natural user interfaces to facilitate the Query-by-Drawing (QbD) image search paradigm. Although ubiquitous mobile computing holds the promise of drastically changing the ways users search for images from large image repositories, there is yet no comprehensive and systematic study that examines the factors that influence the usability, user behaviours and task performance of a QbD image search mobile application (App). No guidelines and principles exist for designing fundamental user interface components such as the colour picker and little is known how its different designs affect system usability and task performance. Little research exists that examines how different user interface designs affect the ways users draw the queries and how users go about the search process for different types of tasks. The questions of whether or not it is possible or how well users can perform QbD image search by drawing from memory of previously-seen images are unexplored. An understanding of these questions is very important and useful in the development of effective and user-friendly systems for a QbD image search App on touchscreen mobile devices. This PhD project attempts to answer these questions and more by examining the factors that influence the usability and task performance of a QbD painting search mobile application. Starting with a comprehensive literature review and current mobile App review of various related fields, we first designed and implemented a Client-Server painting search mobile App based on an existing CBIR algorithm as the research platform for collecting empirical data; we then conducted a focus group study from whose findings we re-designed the user interfaces of our QbD App. An online survey about art preference was carried out, and we designed four comprehensive user studies and recruited a total of 123 participants to take part in the experiments. Both qualitative and quantitative measures are collected and analysed to discover the various factors that influence the usability and task performance of the interface designs of a QbD image search mobile App and the memory drawing over time. Finally, we made recommendations and suggestions on the design and implementation of various interface components of the QbD image search mobile App based on our findings. This thesis presents the following contributions summarised as: 1) We build a flexible platform that can be used for research in drawing-related fields, such as a new QbD technique or interface tests and psychological study. 2)We present a comprehensive and systematic review of the methods and techniques related to the investigation of QbD image search mobile App. 3) We propose a new way of categorising colour picker: ‘1D-1D-1D’, ‘1D-2D’, and ‘3D’ colour picker. 4) The rationales of choosing stimuli are proposed and a real-world painting database is built. 5) We also develop a variety of novel methodologies for experimental design, data collection and data analysis, and we formulated a new protocol for assessing drawing accuracy and search result. 6) We propose some colour picker design guidelines through a series of experiments and the analysis of comprehensive experimental data. 7) Although indeed memory decays over time, we found the participants are able to draw from the memory of a painting with simple compositional structure (6-7 colour blobs), even for the paintings viewed a month ago. And finally, 8) the experiments also provide valuable insights into how general users draw and modify a query, and judge the result relevance for different tasks on mobile phones, as well as search pattern and memorisation strategy, which also extend a scientific understanding of using current Query-by-Drawing techniques for real world image search.

Abstract:
This thesis presents experimental results of shape’s influence on user’s performance in terms of time and accuracy in shape replication task. The shapes are drawn with mouse, pen and touch input devices. For this purpose, two non-meaningful, semi- randomly generated shapes have been used. The first shape has a combination of straight lines and curves whereas the second shape has curves only. Each of these shapes is presented in four versions namely contour, polygon, narrow tunnel and wide tunnel. A method to compare versions of these shapes with the corresponding versions of user drawn shapes is presented. In general, the results showed that the replication of second shape takes less time and the replicated shape is more accurate when compared to the first shape. In addition, performance of the input devices was found to be dependent upon the shapes and their versions they were used to draw.

Abstract:
In recent years, graphene-based materials have attracted great interest in the area of electrochemistry due to its excellent electronic properties. In this work, we present the production of reduced graphene oxide using electrochemical methods. The electrochemical reduction of graphene oxide (GO) was carried out on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) using the cyclic voltammetry technique. Electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ER-GO) was characterized using Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), Xray excited photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). ID / IG ratio obtained through Raman spectra of GO and ER-GO were 0.98 and 1.15, respectively, indicating that the reduction process resulted in greater structural disorganization. XPS showed that the ratio between C and O in the GO was 45.7% and that after electrochemical reduction this ratio decreased to 38.5%. The ER-GO modified electrode was used as a sensor for furosemide (FUR) in pharmaceutical samples using the techniques of differential pulse voltammetry and flow injection analysis with amperometric detection. The limits of detection and quantification for the proposed method were 0.35 and 1.18 µmol L-1, respectively. Aiming to the application in clinical samples a disposable, low-cost paper-based sensor for the detection of FUR was fabricated using office paper painted with drawing pencil and activated by CO2 laser. Voltammetric studies using [Ru(NH3)6]Cl3 have shown that mass transport in this device was controlled by diffusion and the laser decreases resistance to charge transfer, as well as, avoided the problem with electrode surface poisoning

Abstract:
This thesis is a study of drawings contained in notebooks and registered in the formof notes. The 2007 were studied the inherent images mainly the four sketch books produced between 1997, amongst some existing ones. We opt to the object of the research to be the proper deposition of the artist, which tells the poetical processes, the collection of the visual information, the materialization and the transformation in workmanship executed and passível of exposition. The graphical vestiges contained mainly in notebook 1 are proper of the notes; they are drawings still in formation that however we present as memory drawings and that they bring only the concern initially to register diversified forms. Already notebooks 2, 3 and 4 are more formal, that is, the registers bring a scienter to establish relations between comments, thoughts and sensations. Therefore, more subjective while poetical production. Analyzing and comparing drawings (however sketches, however workmanships), these images had been gaining meanings, exciting the establishment of dialogues with other drawings. Also, these processes had allowed diversified to a poetical experience and the half application of the technician for the execution and resolution of the workmanships. Graham, Christopher D. Investigating the psychology of assistive device use in ALS: Suggestions for improving adherence and engagement. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/med/9780198757726.003.0012.

Full text
Abstract:
In ALS, assistive devices—such as wheelchairs, augmentative, and alternative communication devices (AAC) and environmental controls—are often used to compensate for the functional impairments caused by the condition. These devices may help maintain meaningful functioning and help preserve quality of life. Yet adherence to and uptake of such devices is sub-optimal. Drawing on the literature from ALS and other diseases, this chapters explores the psychosocial challenges of assistive device use, and factors that might affect usage—cognitive impairment and mood, threats to identity, social context, illness adjustment/acceptance, and the desire to maintain control over one’s health care. Methods that clinicians can use to intervene to improve non-adherence are then suggested—bio-psychosocial assessment (formulation) informed by cognitive and mood screens, voice-banking for appropriate accents in AAC devices, increasing illness acceptance via counselling, or acceptance and commitment therapy, and empathetic clinician-facilitated discussions with patient-significant other dyads and families.

Abstract:
AbstractProjects have become crucial devices in the practice and governance of research. Drawing on the participant ethnography of a two-year interdisciplinary project on microbial bioenergy, this chapter inquires how projectification translates into collective research dynamics. It argues that to understand what projects are and how they affect research practices and communities, it is necessary to look beyond their influence on the organisation of research work. Seeking to delineate the project as a group, the chapter analyses three versions of the project-ed community: in documents, in institutional arrangements, and in daily research. This shows that projects cannot be reduced to temporary arenas of research. They are also argumentative devices that justify and display the excellence and relevance of specific scientific endeavours, as well as projection devices – they serve to imagine future research communities and to start building them. In that, projects are highly strategic entities that integrate scientific practices into coherent narratives to further the interests and ambitions of various parties; but they are also enmeshed in practical matters, because to build communities, researchers have to develop concrete repertoires that are materially embodied.

Abstract:
The paper presents the design, construction, validation and testing of a Haptic Guidance Device whose aim is to provide dynamic assistance while performing manual activities such as drawing, hatching and cutting. A commercial phantom haptic device was modified by adding a pantograph mechanism in order to increase the haptic working area. The force feedback workspace provided by the phantom device is quite limited, 160 W × 120 H mm. This workspace sometimes is not enough to reproduce manual tasks in a large-scale area as is often required in several educational activities (e.g. sketching, hatching and cutting tasks). In this paper is evaluated a low cost solution for increasing the haptic working area provided by the phantom device. The pantograph mechanism has been linked with the haptic device in order to increase the working area in a 2:1 scale. The users hand moves a pen linked to the device through 2D predefined shapes in which the pens position have been tracked in 2D coordinates at 25 kHz in order to record all the data for the posterior analysis. The haptic guidance device is also equipped with a cutting system using hot wire for physically producing the drawn shape as a piece of polystyrene foam. The haptic guidance device has been tested by people with specific disorders affecting coordination such as Down syndrome and mental retardation under the supervision of their teachers and care assistants. The results of the study prove that higher performance levels can be achieved while performing manual tasks as sketching, hatching and cutting operation using the haptic guidance device.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper discusses a failure analysis case study in a highly integrated mixed signal device caused by inductive coupling of on-chip signals. The techniques utilized and the approach to root cause analysis are discussed in depth. The interactions between the device design and failure mechanism are identified in detail. Focus is placed on drawing conclusions from the sum of individual data points, and the discussion provides an analytical path by which similar failures can be isolated and specific device sensitivities can be identified.

Abstract:
Considering that the great advantage of an organization today is the knowledge it has, and how it manages this knowledge, this article reports the application of the IDThink device in a fashion organization's manufacturing sector for its validation. This device applies knowledge management through the skills and attitudes of the design thinker. The device shown here is to assist the process of innovation in organizations by using some design thinkers skills in the knowledge explicitation and externalization. To Brown (2009) design thinking begins with the skills that designers have learned over time as: To align the human being´s needs with the technological resources available in the organization; Intuition; The ability to recognize patterns; Build ideas that have both emotional significance and functional; The ability to question their surroundings and be empathetic and; The ability to express otherwise than in words or symbols. This last is one of the most important designer skills. The designer uses the drawing process also as a critical process, as discovery. He uses drawing as a means of materializing, imagination, or discovery of something that he cannot built in his mind, and as a mean of communication with others, facilitating collaboration on projects. The IDThink device is an external, temporary repository for ideas, with which the designer interacts, and this externalization supports the necessary dialogue that it has between the problem and the solution, which minimizes the cognitive stress when dealing with quantities and complexities of knowledge to be process internally. The identification of concepts and their positioned graphical representation facilitates decision-making, the sharing of knowledge of everyone involved in the organization management, and observation of systemic functioning of the company, focusing on indicators that it judged suitable. The use of visual codes, which will be available throughout the process, allows the team to navigate the process without losing their train of thought. Also allows us to observe the evolution of the environment and its influence in the organization to assist in corrective actions. The nature of the research was exploratory, with lineation by ex-post-fact, using a strategy of ethnography, through non-participant interviews and observation. After applying, the researchers understood the need to adapt the External System of the IDThink device so that it includes an amount of knowledge needed to the visualization of the organization's management and / or the development of new products.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.4995/IFDP.2016.2400
