This thesis explores the intersection of craft and electronics by way of paper and conductive ink, a domain that I'm terming papercraft electronics-a synthesis of electronics, drawing, and painting. I investigate the nature of making a physical electronic artifact, and the ways in which that making informs our relationship with both the artifact, specifically, as well as technology writ large. I examine craft-the manual process-as a means for embedding new kinds of personally-significant meaning in electronics, re-positioning electronics fabrication as the creation of personal, unique, hand-crafted artifacts. I do so through a series of case studies oriented around the papercraft electronics domain. Through a sequence of projects, workshops, and evaluations, I examine the personal connection and pride that comes with making, as well as the handmade artifact's place in technology. In particular, I initiate projects around the making of paper sensors, speakers, synthesizers, and audio-augmented artworks.

This thesis presents computational expressionism, an exploration of drawing using a computer that redefines the concepts of line and composition for the digital medium. It examines the artistic process involved in computational drawing, addressing the issues of skill, algorithmic style, authorship, re-appropriation, interactivity, dynamism, and the creative/evaluative process. The computational line augments the traditional concept of line making as a direct deposit or a scratching on a surface. Digital representation is based on computation; appearance is procedurally determined. The computational line embodies not only an algorithmic construction, but also dynamic and interactive behavior. A computer allows us to construct drawing instruments that take advantage of the dynamism, interactivity, behavioral elements and other features of a programming environment. Drawing becomes a two-fold process, at two distinct levels of interaction with the computer. The artist has to program the appearance and behavior of lines and subsequently draw with these lines by dragging a mouse or gesturing with some other input device. The compositions incorporate the beauty of computation with the creative impetus of the hand, whose apparent mistakes, hesitations and inspirations form a complex and critical component of visual expression.

Computation is a powerful medium for art creation. Procedural art, or artwork defined by a computationally represented system of rules, relationships, and behaviors, enables creation of works that are flexible, adaptable, and capable of systematic revision. Yet the medium for creating procedural art, computer programming, can pose significant barriers for manual artists. Programming can be challenging to learn, and programming tools can restrict the concrete practices of manual art. An analysis of the creative opportunities of procedural art and the conflicts programming poses for manual artists raises these questions: (1) How can we create procedural art systems that are accessible and expressive for manual artists? (2) How can we support different ways of thinking and creating with representational mediums? (3) How can procedural art systems contribute to the process of learning and understanding representational mediums? This dissertation explores these questions through two new systems that integrate manual and procedural creation. Para is a digital illustration tool that enables artists to produce procedural compositions through direct manipulation. Dynamic Brushes is a system that enables artists to create computational drawing tools that procedurally augment the process of manual drawing. Para and Dynamic Brushes were informed through interviews with artists and evaluated through multi-week open-ended studies in which professionals created polished artwork. These evaluations provided a framework for developing creative tools through extended work with creative professionals. Comparison of artwork produced with Para and Dynamic Brushes revealed specific trade-offs in expressiveness, ease of entry, and working style for direct manipulation and representational procedural tools. Overall, this research demonstrates how integrating manual and procedural creation can diversify the kinds of outcomes people can create with procedural tools and the kinds of people who can participate in procedural art.

Computers should be able to assist an engineer or designer at all stages of design without chasing the engineer away or frustrating her. In order for this to occur, the computer needs to be able to understand what the engineer is doing and provide unobtrusive help. Furthermore the engineer needs to be able to interact with the computer in a natural manner. To support this design methodology I implement a foundation on which a programmer can make such applications. I provide two illustrative applications which demonstrate the foundation's power.

A laborious task for animators is to redesign of 2D models for each new required view or pose. As a consequence, several applications have been proposed to make this task easier. A successful approach is the Cartoon 2.5D Models. Its goal is to automaticaly produce new views (by the simulation of 3D global rotation) from userprovided 2D models. However, previous works of 2.5D Models does not have support to calculate poses efficiently, i.e., the user redraws the input views again in the new pose. We present a novel approach that allows the user to produce both new views and poses easily for the 2.5D Models, thus puppeteering the 2.5D Models. It makes use of a hierarchical bone structure that explores the methodology of the 2.5D Models, ensuring coherence between the bone structures and the model. The usability of our approach is intuitive, especially for the users acquainted with previous 2.5D Modeling tools.

The thesis seeks to analyse, on the one hand, the integration and development of the new technologies in the Administration of Justice; and, on the other, the parameters which constitute the validity and efficiency of the electronic document.
The first question centres on the configuration of the Information Systems of the Judicial Office and the Public Prosecutor, as well as the computerisation of the Civil Registers, where the art. 230 LOPJ it's the part key. Their programmes, applications, the Video Conferencing, the judicial registers and the telecommunication networks which are covered by the recognised electronic signatures, are studied, where the agreements on technological collaboration gain great relevance. The digitalisation of evidence might perhaps be one of the questions with most consequence, bearing in mind that the judgment is the act by which the process is culminated. Although not all the projects adopted within the compass of e.justice have developed completely nor have reached all the judicial organs. The final objective is to achieve an agile, quality Justice, to which the recently approved Strategic Plan for the Modernisation of Justice aspires.
With reference to the second perspective, there is no doubt that the juridical Ordinance and the tribunals within the compass of material justice grant full validity and efficacy to the electronic document. Our line of investigation is justified because there are more and more processes which are sustained by electronic supports of all kinds, whether it be at the establishment of the action or later, as a proof of it (art. 299.2 LEC). Amongst other things, we examine the computerised document, the problems which surround the fax, the systems for video recording and the electronic contract.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to explore the influence of schematic drawing teaching strategies on the learning of solving multiplication and division of mathematic word problems for positive integer for the primary school resource program students. In order to examine the effect of schematic drawing, researcher adopted a multiple-baseline design and the analysis of teaching procedure. The finding was that it’s effective for the primary school resource program students to apply schematic drawing that were designed according to scaffolding theory to solve multiplication and division of mathematic word problems for positive integer. After learning to apply schematic drawings, students could transfer internal representation of word problems into equations directly, not solving problems by external representation of schemes. The study was to find out the schematic drawing that primary teachers use to teach multiplication and division of mathematic word problems for positive integer. We modify these drawings for teaching experiment. Researcher found the sampled teachers applied different drawings for different grades, ages, maturity, and language levels of students, and they also consider continuous or the discrete contexts and varieties of the subjects in the word problems. Teachers applied kinds of schematic drawings to help students to solve problems. Simultaneously, by three-way analysis of variance, to explore whether schematic drawings could elevate accuracy of solving multiplication and division of mathematics word problems for positive integer for 3rd grade students. The result revealed that students could solve problems more accurately with schematic drawings, that was schematic drawings could raise effect on student to comprehend the meanings of problems, choose the proper symbols and list the appropriate equations. Researcher also found the effect of schematic drawing would not make any difference on different contexts, as for the formal students, schematic drawings also made good transferred effectiveness. From effect size, researcher found students could make further progress with schematic drawings, other aids and it’s essential and helpful to explain the schematic drawings for students. Comparing the standard deviation, researcher found the problems with schematic drawings were smaller than the ones without drawings, and the reasons was schematic drawings could help the students who were low on solving mathematics problems to elevate their accuracy of figuring out the answers. From the study, offering schematic drawings could elevate the accuracy of solving problems, if adding the explanations of drawings would make much more effect.

Abstract Many drawing software cannot display Chinese in the drawing area for Linux. To solve the "Displaying Chinese Problem" within Linux, we employ the concept of embeded Chinese which allows the drawing softwares to display Chinese successfully. Our method also provides the graphic user interface(GUI for short) to contort, font name, font size, and color setting. With these functions, the disadvantage of command mode interface has been removed, and our interface makes user work more comfortable with Linux. For Linux, many free software have released the source code and make the presentation of Chinese using I18N. However, implementing I18N is no easy task. With I18N, the development is time-consuming and corresponding process too long. In the thesis, our method is an alternative to reduce the development time for people who need to use these software now. For non-free software (software whose source code is either unavailable or may not be modified), people cannot even apply I18N. Our method is the only choice if users need to use Chinese version of these software. In this paper, we also use Perl language to implement a conversion program and apply it in three drawing softwares: QCad, POV-Ray, and Geomview. The detailed analysis and the result of experiment is also given. The practical usefulness of this program and its relatively short development time shows the value of our method.

This study discussed the graduated learners’ learning motivations and probed into their satisfaction about the teachers, the school equipments, the teachers’ teaching materials or methods and the coordination of the school administration. Then the study estimated the self-evaluation tests of the graduated learners and did research on the employment situations of the graduated learners in the Northern, Central and Southern parts of Taiwan. Since the unemployment rate in our country was high, the graduated learners kept switching to another line of business or work. This study would point out the relationship of the graduated learners’ job markets and our country’s economical situations. Finally, based on the research findings, this study proposed some concrete suggestions to some related authorities as references. The research methods included the questionnaire-survey and interview methods based on the determined samplings. Questionnaires were distributed to 838 graduated learners of the four representative public vocational senior high schools in the Northern, Central, and Southern parts of the country. The retrieval questionnaires were 443 copies. The retrieval rate was 52.86%. The valid questionnaires were 420 copies. The effectiveness rate was 94.81%. Combining with the data of the individual interviews, this study used the statistical methods to analyze the data. According to the analyzed results, this study concluded the research findings , proposed the conclusions and suggestions. The major findings of this study are as follows: 1.Generally speaking, the learning satisfaction of the graduated learners’ is quite high, particularly about the professional skills of the teachers. 2.The learning motivations of the graduated learners are to advance their employment knowledge and skills as well as to make use of their leisure time. 3.The graduated learners’ satisfaction about the self-evaluation of their learning effectiveness and behavioral changes is quite high. They think taking the SPSE — the CAD Class can enrich their knowledge and professional skills, which are beneficial for their prospective job markets. 4.Lacking for the appropriate working opportunities and suitable media is the major factor for the graduated learners to practice their learning and skills after graduation. 5.The main reason for the graduated learners to take the SPSE — the CAD Class is that they think these courses meet the needs of the job markets and their individual interests. 6.There are no significant discrepancies among the graduated learners’ switching business in the Northern, Central, and Southern parts of Taiwan. But those who took the related drafting courses are more satisfied with their learning than those who never took the related drafting courses.

This study examined the effects of three primary school resource program students to solve comparative addition and subtraction applied mathematics problems by using schematic drawings. In addition, the study also analyzed the difficulties that these students encountered during their learning of the strategy of schematic drawings to solve comparative addition and subtraction applied mathematics problems. This study was conducted by using single subject multiple probes across subjects design. The results indicated that: a.schematic drawing strategy was greatly effective on the three subjects’ solving the comparative addition and subtraction applied mathematics problem; b.the difficulties which the three subjects frequently encountered during the process of learning the strategy included: 1) translating problems; 2) analyzing semantic content of key phrases of questions; 3) translating words into scheme; 4)translating scheme into mathematics sentences. Finally, based on the findings of the study , the research suggested : a.for application in mathematical teaching of primary school: 1) encouraging students to use external representation in solving problem; 2) improving children’s ability of reversal inference; 3) enabling students to realize the relationship between schematic drawings and solving problem; 3) adopting various methods of assessment; b.for future research: exploring students’ internal representation when they use the strategy of schematic drawings in problem-solving. Key Word: comparative problems、the strategy of schematic drawings、problem-solving process、external representation。
