Abstract:
Since the publication of Rod Dreher’s The Benedict Option, commentators have scrutinized his claim that the Western church is undergoing an existential crisis. Many doubt that the state of Western Christianity is as dire as Dreher thinks. But the more important question is, even if Dreher’s warnings of a crisis are inaccurate, what reason do we have for not adopting his suggested practices? This essay attempts to show that the Benedict Option, rather than being a retreat from the world as is commonly believed, is consonant with evangelicalism’s emphasis on mission and outreach. Specifically, it is an attempt to live out the parable of salt and light by grounding people in Christian distinctiveness so that their light to the world can shine truly.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to examine what factors China’s foreign aid allocation affected based on the case of Mozambique. Dreher et al.(2018), the most pioneering research on Chinese aid argue that China’s foreign policy interests determine its allocation of Official Development Assistance(ODA) flows and that economic considerations determine less concessional forms of official financing(Other Official Flows, OOF). However, existing studies examining the factors of aid allocation in Western donor countries show a mixture of factors such as donors’ interest and recipients’ development. This study argues that through the Mozambique case, China’s aid is also allocated by the interaction of various factors. Utilizing the Granger Causality test, we find that while ODA flows affect exports from China to Mozambique, exports do not cause ODA. In terms of OOF, the argument of Dreher et al.(2018) was not supported. OOF is not distributed according to economic purpose. Investigating aid to the agriculture, social infrastructure, health, and education sectors, this study shows that aid is distributed for different purposes depending the sector.

Abstract:
As the world’s store of knowledge increases, and knowledge-workers in contemporary organizations face the imperative of consulting that record, and contributing to it, in order to satisfy a diversity of users and uses, we need to find more efficient and effective ways of dealing with the vast volumes, and have strategies, processes, and systems for managing them. Hypertext technology is a good way to structure and access explicit knowledge. The “Dreher Hypertext Development Methodology” is proffered to guide the development of suitably structured and accessible knowledge repositories. The multitude of users - readers and writers, are empowered, and the diversity of uses - finding, accessing, structuring, linearizing (printing), and much more besides, are facilitated.

Abstract:
This paper empirically investigates how globalization impacted economic growth in a broad group of countries covered by the wiiw (the Vienna institute for international economic studies) database covering the period since the 1990s. Whilst theoretical arguments in favor of the positive effects of globalization are predominant, there also exist sound arguments pointing out that the effects might be negative too. Empirical evidence also provides a mixed picture. Given this ambiguity, it seems reasonable to further pursue the empirical effects of globalization on growth. The novelty in this paper is the application of different measures of globalization within the KOF index of globalization introduced by Dreher (2006) and later revisited by Gygli et al. (2019). In particular, this applies to distinguishing between the de jure and de facto measures of globalization and allows a comparison between the findings of these approaches. In its empirical investigation, this study uses the panel data analysis covering the ex-socialist European and Asian countries providing some interesting insights.

Full text
Abstract:
It is well known that nerve fibers from the optic tract (as well as from several other pathways) project to the pretectum and drive the pupillomotor nuclei. But it has been less clear as to how or to what extent the pupillary light responses can provide information about visual function. A study by Leventhal, Rodieck, and Dreher (1981), however, may furnish an important clue. The investigators reported that the fibers forming the retinopretectal pathway in primates come from morphological A-, C-, and E- types of retinal ganglion cells. B-cells, the type which projects to the parvocellular layers of the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN), do not terminate in the pretectum. A-cells, the type which also projects to the magnocellular layers of the LGN, do. (Hereafter, we use the terms M- and P-pathway in accordance with Shapley (1990) when speaking of the A- and B-cells, respectively, or die neural signals that originate from the two).

Abstract:
The URL links to a website page in the Drexel Digital Museum (DDM) fashion image archive containing a 3D interactive panorama of an evening suit by American fashion designer James Galanos with related text. This evening suit is from Galanos Fall 1984 collection. The skirt and bodice of the jacket are black and white plaid wool. The jacket sleeves are black mink with leather inserts that contrast the sheen of the leather against the luster of the mink and reduce some of the bulk of the sleeve. The suit is part of The James G. Galanos Archive at Drexel University gifted to Drexel University in 2016. The panorama is an HTML5 formatted version of an ultra-high resolution ObjectVR created from stitched tiles captured with GigaPan technology. It is representative the ongoing research of the DDM, an international, interdisciplinary group of researchers focused on production, conservation and dissemination of new media for exhibition of historic fashion.
