Full textAfter recalling a few of the main stages of the literary critic, this thesis proposes to verify how the study of the paratext finds its way in the description of literary facts and opens new ways of reflexions. The chosen author, Driss Chraïbi, belongs to the french speaking literature from the maghreb, literature which history is related. The corpus incluses the novelistic works of the writer, from 1954 to nowadays. The heuristic value of the device is tested through! Two main directions. First of all, the study of the paratext made by the author allows to verify the reach of the dedicaces, which bespeaks the weight of collective and individual history, and the setting-up of the writer's imaginative capacity, before concluding about the status of the characters. The analysis of shapes and functions of the epigraphes reveals a desire for pedagogy, a need for denunciation, and the creation of go-betweens among several narratives cycles. The work about indications allows to precise the author's taste for exotism, for oral character, for bilinguism. Afterwards, the study of a part of the editorial paratext, titles, intertitles, contents, please inserts, book-covers, reveals possible differences between the writer's projects and the editor's interests. A final reflexion about the indicated genre on the first book-cover allows to bring out the feeling of history which is present in the texts

Full textThe fiction of Driss Chrai͏̈bi, one of the major Maghrebian writers of French expression, has undergone many transformations since its iconoclastic beginning, during the struggle for independence from colonialism. Considered as the "rebel son", the author seeks his path through two cultures in a quest for identity, ceaselessly celebrating multiculturalism. Nonetheless, the great variety of his work doesn't lack a firm homogeneity. The aim of this research, in the already prolific critical literature of Driss Chrai͏̈bi's fiction, is to provide an overview of the main themes and textual components of his work: the dynamics of the narrative process show a textual strategy between gaps and repetition. Intertextuality appears to have a key role in the creative process: Chrai͏̈bi's writing is constantly dragging along numerous references, based on "Western" as well as "Eastern" inspiration, and the discursive structure reveals overlapping forms of real and invented intertexts. At first subverting narrative linearity, those interactions are progressively combined in simultaneous lines, in a literary counterpoint on the musical model. Obsessive themes highlight and focus attention on repetitive imagery, within the constant metamorphosis of Chrai͏̈bi's work; symbolic patterns of a personal myth underline the specific language the author is using to recreate his own literary universe

Full textStudies on Driss Chraïbi work are numerous, but in most cases, they are all about the theme of rebellion which in his early novels. None of them has tried to stress this writer's dialogue with the readers in his society of origin or the originality of the texts in his later novels. This is what we have tried to do in this research which is made up of two parts: a critical reception of Driss Chraïbi and his writing, his language and ideology. The first part is a systematic study aiming to determine Chraïbi 's place among the maghrebin writers in the Moroccan environment, and also the expectations and aspirations of potential readers. The second part ios an analysis through the linguistic substratum of the mother tongue, irony, parody, the writer's ideology and that or those of his characters, and their relationships with power, Islam, tradition and modernity

Full textThis research is concerned with the character in driss chraibi's le passe simple, les boucs and succession ouverte. It is proposed as an attempt at analysing some aspects of the literary character in relation to the actual person. The first part is an attempt at analysing the onomastic system as a proceeding for recognition and as a complex net work for the identification of the character. If the name is the sign which permits the reader to encircle the character effect, the qualifications through the portrographic system and through the system of objects contribute to its construction. The second part introduces, via description, typified or conflictive antithetic portraits which will be re vealed by means of different discourse strategies that are developped in the third part. The dimension of discourse, als o, reveals a particular load where imagination and reality coexist. It implicitly inspires person through character. The last part sets off this autobiographical aspect

Full textThe foundation of the works of the moroccan novelist driss chraibi is an attempt to reconcile a mystic and muslim he could never rid himself, of and a western contribution which must necessarily be integrated in order to reach an arabe model wisch would be a balance between the eastern and the western worlds. In the face of such a complex and difficult issue, is it possible to explain how chraibi has to some extent achieved this synthesis after a stage of radical opposition followed by a period when he questioned himself on the woman ? thus the study of his works can be divided into three parts. The first part "the rebellion" deals more particularly with his first two novels passe simple (1954) and les boucs (1955), and with his violent criticism against the arab society on the other hand. The second part "the crisi of the woman" illustrates the shades of opinion given by writer himself on his former judgements. . .

Full textThis study is based on the Woman's situation through the Maghreb society. The first part of this study will be the question of the sociological and historical inspiration and will also take up the important matters such as : the attitude of the authorities, a cultural dualism, the relationship of the woman's education, the medias arts and literature. In the second part a literary corpus composed by the novels written in French by the Maghreb writers as (Chrai͏̈bi, Benjelloun, Moroccan ; Boudjedra, Algerian) will be analysed for studying the main feature of Maghreb's woman. The third part will deal with the feminism movement. One can find an original approach especially through the pages dedicated to the semiology of the colours and eroticisation of the writing or to Mahomet the champion of feminism. The same question can be asked concerning Aragon's poem sang by Ferrat : is woman the future of man ? Nevertheless a lot of studies can be devoted to this field

Full textThe dynamism, pertinence and the performative power of the dialogues which bind pictural and litterary creations in the post-colonial cultural North-African field have been - unless I'm mistakes, seldom exploited thoroughly. Yet, obvious the gathering of Driss Chraïbi, Ahmed Cherkaoui, Kateb Yacine, Mohammed Khadda, Albert Memmi and Nja Mahdaoui is rich in the merging of (artistic) preocupations and expressive procedure. Each of them neveals in his own way a thorough research on the " memory of roots " and of a far-reaching reflexion on " modern " art or rather, on the role of the artist in the modern society (the one issued from the colonial system). From one expression to the other an " artistic companionship " is emerging to inaugurate an original form of " identity languages ". In a society which is " deprogrammed " of its identity and culture, there six public idols are building (in a parallel and complementary way) expressive outlines (of the " rhizome " type) which are likely to soothen on a long term basis the tears due to the acculturation feeling. All along the dialogue between writting and the new painting a mental hinterland is outlined the Mediterranean accompanied by a gossaner and syncretic expression capable of behulding all the paradoxical compoments of the new cultural identity to express/print on a long term basis the " in between " feeling the new North-African man experiences forcefully following the Independances

Full textThis study is an analysis of islam and the moroccan society in the works of Driss Chraïbi. The author vigourously condemns both tradition and archaic customs which harden the moroccan society. He denounces the way women, children and the poor are treated. Through his novels. Driss Chraïbi calls out for a modern development of society and for the rights of the individuals. He denounces the hypocrisy and the sham rigorism of those who, holding the political and financial power, persecute the community under the cover of islam. He blames the wrong way chosen by islam, which at the beginning was animated by a pacific and brotherly faith, devoid of itjihad, and which gradually became a strict and intolerant religion, in favor of the taqlid. All these uncertainties lead to a sort of cultural schizophrenia for the one who has to face a double culture he is not able to control

Full textThis research focuses on ten novels by Francophone authors: Monnè, outrages et défis, by Ahmadou Kourouma ; La mère du printemps and Naissance à l’aube, by Driss Chraïbi ; L’escargot entêté and Les 1001 années de nostalgie, by Rachid Boudjedra ; La déchirure and Le régiment noir, by Henry Bauchau ; Prochain épisode, Trou de mémoire, and L’antiphonaire, by Hubert Aquin. Beyond the socio-historical differences in their origins, the works show strong similarities both in writing and in their themes. Based – for the most part - on the life experience of the authors, they are rooted in the era or summon past events (invasions, colonization, wars, resistance) to produce an understanding of history. Through the device of metonymisation, the latter is embodied in an "I" hallucinated narrator, originally injured and psychologically broken down, desperately committed to writing in order to express his unhappiness and perhaps also to heal himself. Autobiography serves as a way to write history and it merges with the narrative, the discourse on the novel being written tending to become the object of the narrative. From another perspective, that of allegory, the texts show through older events, even experienced elsewhere, the patterns and figures that illustrate the cyclical nature and methods of building history, and reflect the resistance of the peoples and their survival strategies. Using a hermeneutic approach and also drawing upon the paradigm of "birth and death" in the light of which Pierre Nepveu understands Quebec literature, this analysis highlights the symbolic mediation at work in the novels. While featuring disinherited subjects (individual or collective) and the historical impasse, they propose ways to get around this. By showing that only false evidence and any "it-goes-without-saying " in imaginaries were originally selected and created in response to contingent needs, the fiction in the Francophone novel draws attention to a major principle in the regeneration of worlds : a tradition, a culture, a civilization is invented; specifically, it invents time and, conversely, time reinvents it.

Full textThe starting point for this thesis is the study of the feeling shared by the two novels that defines the heroes as orphans, whose lives are torn between a relation to two competing families : one is real, and bears a cultural and religious legacy rooted into a recent past; the other is surrogate, and stands for an alternative legacy, rooted into a remote past, considered as the point of origin of authentic being. Questioning the relevance of the message delivered by islam today is a major preoccupation in both novels, although they both hesitate as to what answer they must give to this question. Therefore, this thesis gives various viewpoints on the character who embodies the questioning : acting both on behalf of the author and as an autonomous individual; he also represents collective issues. Longing for communion with a maternal world, he tries to mediate between the original world on the verge of disappearing and the current degraded world. Then, a phenomenological viewpoint accounts for the authors' way of expressing solitude and lacking. The novels question the loss of sacred values in the world, and find roots in mythical structures and archetypes, whose webs of meanings show the close relation between novel writing and mythical thinking

Full textAs a starting point, this thesis bases on an observation related to the evolution of the use of irony in the literary text from the maghreb of the eighties, a difficult period. In order to reason this, the following objectives have been drawn : to derive, with regard to irony, its transmission modes, its mechanisms as well as its functions, as part of an author reader communication. Thus, the first part of this work defines irony, operationally, presents the corpus and elaborates a reading frame. Then, the analysis follows two perspectives : that of semiology, with the reading of the epitexts, and that of narratology, with the reading of the extracts, according to the narrator, the character and the situation modes. The conclusions show that irony has a conflicting origin, and that its functions are generally meant for the exteriorization and or anti-establishment, to lead to a heuristic aim. It constitutes, therefore, a real evolution in the glance, the writing and the author reader relations, in the french written literature from the maghreb of that time
