Abstract:
Adverse weather conditions can increase travel risk. Understanding how drivers react to adverse weather, such as rainfall, can aid in the understanding of road safety patterns and traffic operations. This information can in turn be used to improve driver education as well as highway operation through improved signing or the introduction of intelligent highway systems. Hourly rainfall data collected from the Pearson International Airport weather station and City of Toronto traffic data collected at the study site on the Gardiner expressway were used to create event and control pairs.

Unsafe driving habits increase the severity of roadway accidents. The behaviors that are generally associated with unsafe driving are influenced by drivers and their decision to engage in dangerous habits. In order to solve this problem, Departments of Transportation use roadside safety campaigns. This thesis reports five studies that investigate the impact of trust on driver response to forward collision warning systems (FCWS). The experiments, while self-contained were conceived to relate together in a cohesive way. The first three studies investigated the relationship between alarm timing and driver performance in collision situations in a broad range of driving conditions. These studies also established trust models describing changes in driver subjective ratings of trust in response to alarm timing. It was found that an early alarm timing led to quick braking reaction times, result

This study evaluated the effect of work zone barrier type, presence of a lateral buffer, and work zone activity level on measures of speed and lane position. Four crash modes are overrepresented among fatalities: single vehicle road departure crashes, control loss crashes, cross-centerline head-on crashes, and pedestrian/cyclist crashes [2]. Abstract:
Shallow water tropical and temperate marine habitats are changing dramatically in response to many stressor-driven effects. The change in turn threatens the associated fish communities relying on their maintenance for habitat provision. At present, a much better understanding of the interaction between changing habitats and the associated fish is necessary. To address the lack of understanding of the habitat – fish association, mechanisms which underpin the habitat driven responses of reef fish were examined, from entire communities down to species level, across tropical and temperate ecosyste
