In the shallow and hypertrophic Lake Veluwe the cycling of phosphorus between water and sediments was mainly determined by a continuous bloom of the blue-green alga Oscillatoria agardhii. For the restoring of water quality it was considered necessary to reduce the external P-loading as well as to suppress the release of phosphorus from the sediments. The P-loading of the lake decreased from approx. 3 to 1 g P/m2 a year in 1979. Additionally the lake has been flushed during winter periods with water low in phosphorus. Flushing was primarily aimed at interrupting the continuous algal bloom. Afte

An experiment was conducted in a Faba bean plot infested withan Orobanche crenata sick plot, at Merowe Research Station farm, in theNorthern State, Sudan, for 3 consecutive seasons (2007/08 - 2009/10). Theobjectives of the experiment were to evaluate the herbicidal efficacy ofImazethapyr (Pursuit 10 E.C) on Orobanche crenata Forsk. and effect onfaba bean (Vicia faba L.) growth and yield. The results showed that fababean was tolerant to the herbicide. The herbicide, reduced the number andair-dry weight of O. crenata shoots by 12 - 83% and 17- 87%, respectively, and increased faba bean seed yield

This study aimed to determine the biomass culture capacity and total carotenoid content of heterotrophic marine microalgae genera, including the genus Schizochytrium and Thraustochytrium on the coast of Tra VinhProvince. Five strains of these genera, DH41.79, CN27, DH10, CN15, and CN47, were cultured for biomass and carotenoid content. The study showed that the cell density of CN47 was highest with different periods under three different dilution levels (10%, 20%, and 30%), with a positive relationship between cell density and dryweight of algae strains (R2 ≈ 1 > 0). Condensed tannin concentrations (% of dryweight) were measured in leaves of 22 accessions of Lotus corniculatus, 10 accessions of L. pedunculatus, 2 accessions of L. tenuis, and 1 accession of L. subbiflorus from plants growing on limed (pH = 5.2) and unlimed (pH = 4.3) soils near Canberra, A.C.T. There was a non-significant decrease in the mean condensed tannin concentration due to liming. The differences between species and between accessions within species were significant. For the L. corniculatus entries the range of tannin concentrations over the limed and unlimed sites was 0.15-7.28%, wi
