Abstract:
AbstractIn this study, we propose a high order well-balanced weighted compact nonlinear (WCN) scheme for the gas dynamic equations under gravitational fields. The proposed scheme is an extension of the high order WCN schemes developed in (S. Zhang, S. Jiang, C.-W Shu, J. Comput. Phys. 227 (2008) 7294-7321). For the purpose of maintaining the exact steady state solution, the well-balanced technique in (Y. Xing, C.-W Shu, J. Sci. Comput. 54 (2013) 645-662) is employed to split the source term into two terms. The proposed scheme can maintain the isothermal equilibrium solution exactly, genuine high order accuracy and resolve small perturbations of the hydrostatic balance state on the coarse meshes. Furthermore, in order to capture the strong discontinuities and large gradients, the fifth-order upwind weighted nonlinear interpolations together with the fourth/sixth order cell-centered compact schemes with local characteristic projections are used to construct different WCN schemes. Several representative one- and two-dimensional examples are simulated to demonstrate the good performance of the proposed schemes.

Abstract:
AbstractIn this study, a numerical framework of the high order well-balanced weighted compact nonlinear (WCN) schemes is proposed for the shallow water equations based on the work in [S. Zhang, S. Jiang, C.-W Shu, J. Comput. Phys. 227 (2008) 7294-7321]. We employ a special splitting technique for the source term proposed in [Y. Xing, C.-W Shu, J. Comput. Phys. 208 (2005) 206-227] to maintain the exact C-property, which can be proved theoretically. In the meantime, the genuine high order accuracy of the numerical scheme can be observed successfully, and small perturbation of the stationary state can be resolved and evolved well. In order to capture the strong discontinuities and large gradients, the fifth-order upwind weighted nonlinear interpolations together with the fourth/sixth order cell-centered compact scheme are used to construct different WCN schemes. In addition, the local characteristic projections are considered to further restrain the potential numerical oscillations. A variety of representative one- and two-dimensional examples are tested to demonstrate the good performance of the proposed schemes.

Abstract:
Let L = X(m; n), X ∈ {W, S, H, K}, be a graded simple Lie algebra of Cartan type over an algebraically closed field of characteristic p > 3. Then L is a so-called generalized restricted Lie algebra. Let [Formula: see text] be the primitive p-envelope of L, and G = X(m; 1), a subalgebra of [Formula: see text]. In this paper, a close connection between Cartan invariants for [Formula: see text] and U(G, χ) is established, where χ ∈ L* is extended to be a linear function on [Formula: see text] trivially, and 1 ≤ ht (χ) < p-2+δXW. This reduces the study of projective representations of the generalized restricted Lie algebra L to the one of the corresponding restricted Lie algebra G. As a special case, we recover some results in [Shu and Jiang, On Cartan invariants and blocks of Zassenhaus algebras, Comm. Algebra33(10) (2005) 3619–3630].

Abstract:
This study deals with the Large Eddy Simulation of a 3D unsteady shock wave/boundary layer interaction, in sight of turbomachinery applications. The simulation of a compressible flow through a 3D channel (ONERA) has been performed in LES, with a third order WENO scheme (Jiang, Shu, 1996) and the mixed scale model (Tenaud, Ta Phuoc, 1996). The flow has already been studied experimentally at ONERA (Cahen, 1995), and numerically with RANS modeling (Gerolymos, Vallet, 1997). The unsteady results obtained by LES within and downstream of the 3D interaction are presented and analyzed. The mean velocity profiles in the interaction zone, are then compared to both experiments and statistical numerical results.

Abstract:
Micro/nano-technology has made tremendous impact in all science and engineering fields in last decades. While review papers on meso/micro/nano manufacturing systems and processes have been published recently, there still lacks a review on how micro/nano technology has been applied to advance fundamental understanding and to enhance practice for manufacturing systems and processes. This paper is not concerned about the advances in meso/micro/nano manufacturing processes and systems themselves, but focuses on their impact on manufacturing applications. This paper presents the state-of-art of the advances on various aspects of how micro/nano technology impacts macro manufacturing systems/processes. Due to the time and space limit, this paper particularly reviews the topics as follows, 1. Micro/nano sensor applications in manufacturing (by Toshiyuki Obikawa and Xiaochun Li), 2. Micro/nano metrology for manufacturing applications (by M.T Postek), 3. Design and manufacturing of micro patterned arrays over macro-scale areas (by David Dornfeld), 4. Functionlized nanodiamonds and applications (by Jack Zhou), 5. Computational simulations at nanoscale for machining (By Ranga Komanduri), 6. Machining surface integrity and multiscale simulation (by C. Richard Liu, Jing Shi, Yuebin Guo, and Xiaoping Yang), and 7. Simulation for forming of parts with micro features (by Jian Cao).
