Full textFor more than two thousand years, the collection of poetry simply referred to as the Shi Jing, (“The Classic of Poetry”, “Book of Odes” or “Book of Songs”), has shaped the Chinese literary landscape. The classic is one of the central influences on the development of later Chinese poetry, and can appropriately be considered a major contributor to the habits of expression, imagery and structure which remained dominant until the nineteenth century.

Full textOur research consists of a descriptive and contrastive study of two translations into Spanish of the Chinese poetic anthology Shi Jing, an extraordinary work of Chinese literature. In particular, we have studied extratextual factors and textual factors, focusing on the study of cultural referents. As one of the Five Books of Confucianism, Shi Jing occupies a transcendental position in Chinese civilization. This work also enjoys great prestige and awakens no less interest in the field of translation. But possibly due to its limited foray into the world of Hispanic letters, the studies dedicated to the translations of Shi Jing into Spanish are really scarce. We believe that our work could contribute, in some way, to shed some light on this great work. The research has the peculiarity of using quantitative data to perform an analysis, both quantitative and qualitative. The analysis model is based mainly on that of Mangiron (2006). In the first place, we have analyzed the extratextual factors related to the two translations and the paratexts that surround them. In particular, the extratextual factors that we include in the analysis are: the translator, the publisher, the initiator, the time, the purpose, the recipients, and the reception. Regarding the analysis of paratexts, the elements that are endowed with the greatest load of meaning in our work are: the cover, the prologue and the footnotes of the two translations; the introductory notes of the TM1 and the preliminary study of the TM2. In the second place, we have carried out one of the central tasks of this study, that is, the descriptive and comparative analysis of the cultural references of the two translations. We use the translation techniques of Molina and Hurtado (Molina 1998 and 2011, and Molina and Hurtado Albir 2002) as an analytical tool. We have adapted and nuanced some of them to fit as accurately as possible to our work. In addition, we have paid special attention to the dieyinci, reduplicated words, given their frequency in the original text, which makes it a characteristic feature of the work. In the third and last phase, we analyzed the data obtained. We emphasize the use of the translation techniques used by the two translators, taking into account the cultural field to which the referents belong. We investigate, for each cultural category, which have been the most used techniques by each one. We also triangulate the data obtained in the previous analyses and to elucidate whether the extratextual factors influence in some way the treatment of cultural references..

By combining semiotics methods with existing research on Communist Party of China''s propaganda and Benedict Anderson''s nationalism theory, this research analyzes a political advertising campaign of CPC named Jiang-Wen-Ming-Shu-Xin-Feng, which is strongly promoted by the propaganda department. Analysis found that the advertising campaign shows the propagators'' strong preference to symbols about Chinese traditional culture in the areas of text symbol, image symbol and artistic genre symbol. In the advertising campaign, the emphasis on national identity obviously exceeds the emphasis on loyalty to the party, which reflects the changing of CPC''s propaganda strategy as a ruling party instead of a revolutionary party. In the frame of Anderson''s nationalism theory, this research shows that CPC uses a typical "official nationalism" strategy in the advertising campaign. The propagators'' purpose behind this strategy is "marketing dictatorship", which would help CPC reinforce its authority and reign, and this phenomenon is closely related to the current social environment in China that filled with strong nationalism and patriotism atmosphere. In addition, this research found that there is significant connection between the symbols frequently appeared in the advertising campaign and the social myths nowadays in China. Through analysis, researcher found that, while the dominative authority like CPC uses the existing social myths, it also produces some new social myths in propaganda. There is the two-way interaction between dominate authority and social myths. Finally, this research found that, in the area of semiology and propaganda theories'' political application, ideology doesn''t always play the dominating role. The ideologies as discursive formations in the "hegemony" are only tools used by the ideologies of existing power structure. Even contradictory discursive formations, like nationalism and communism, could be used by the dominate power''s ideology of CPC''s at the same time if they were helpful for CPC to reinforce its domination.

Wang Shu-he (王叔和) collected and organized the medical classics and doctor’s discourse of pulse diagnosis before the Wei and Jin Dynasties, therefore compiled the first monograph of pulse diagnosis in the traditional Chinese medical history. For a novice at pulse diagnosis, the key to advancing his pulse diagnostic technique is to identify the many touches of pulse accurately. This study attempt to research the descriptions of touches in Mai Jing (脈經) from the angle of “bodily sense”, investigating how to diagnose physical state through decoding pulse messages, grasping the “tacit knowledge” (Michael Polanyi, 1966) in the pulse diagnosis technique. The second chapter expounded that since traditional Chinese Physicians aimed to “ cure by prevention ”, pulse diagnosis was not only a technique used to cure the already ill into the healthy, but also have the capability of bettering common people’s physical and mental state therefore enabling them to continue the path of self improvement and enlightenment. The third chapter aimed to research the corresponding relationship between pulse positions and the viscera, and how to use fingers to feel the pulse. In the fourth chapter, we will investigate the method in controlling the force to enable touching the pulse deeply or lightly, and will explain the physiological and pathological meaning of the pulse depth. In the fifth chapter, we will find how traditional Chinese physicians diagnose patient’s chills and fever in addition to the deficiency and excess from the pulse rate.
