Abstract:
El presente artículo pretende dilucidar las influencias literarias y pictóricas de corte particularmente surrealista que se evidencian en la obra del fotógrafo norteamericano Duane Michals, quien gracias al encuentro con la obra del pintor belga René Magritte puede desarrollar una estética y lenguaje propios, así como transformar la mirada del fotógrafo, cambiar sus concepciones sobre la imagen y gestar una ruptura en el quehacer fotográfico de su tiempo, a partir de la importancia de la imaginación en la creación fotográfica. Se presentan un breve contexto de la vida y obra de ambos artistas, algunos puntos de correspondencia que hacen posible el encuentro entre ambos, y se evidencia mediante el análisis de algunas obras de Michals, cómo el encuentro con Magritte es decisivo para la transformación de su quehacer fotográfico en el desarrollo de un extenso lenguaje narrativo y poético, donde la creación fotográfica actúa como vehículo de la creatividad y la imaginación.

O artigo inscreve-se no campo de estudos sobre “estética e cidade”, trazendo à luz similaridades entre algumas práticas críticas de apropriação do espaço urbano realizadas nos anos 1970 na arquitetura, na dança e na fotografia. Para tanto, toma como objeto obras da coreógrafa Trisha Brown, do fotógrafo Duane Michals e do arquiteto Bernard Tschumi. A partir da constituição de um breve contexto histórico e cultural e da leitura de seus trabalhos, o estudo foca questionamentos disciplinares e horizontes críticos dessas práticas, delineando aspectos comuns. Dentre eles, tem-se a investigação acerca dos acontecimentos cotidianos no espaço urbano e a construção de relações dialéticas entre estrutura e acontecimento, como forma de introdução de aspectos políticos nas linguagens. Em seguida, o texto analisa os desdobramentos das práticas desses autores e os coloca em perspectiva com o contexto atual, em que ações nas artes e na arquitetura procuram confrontar a conformação de consensos na produção do espaço urbano.PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Acontecimento. Aparentment la funció de la imatge és la d'il·lustrar l'acció que es desenvolupa al text i la funció del text és explicar allò que visualitzem a la fotografia. Més enllà d'aquesta complementarietat, les relacions s'amplien a la imatge fotogràfica, davant les imatges sintètiques, pel seu estatus com a index. El diàleg entre ambdós mitjans expressius genera una alteració mútua, d'una banda a les coordenades espai-temps i d'una altra a la noció de referencialitat; és a dir, ni una fotografia és únicament un document real ni un text, és una ficció. S'observen aquestes relacions a les obres de Wright Morris, Duane Michals y Sophie Calle a través d'un element visual i conceptual característic de cada un d'ells -finestra, mirall i ombra- que relaciona la forma de conèixer el món i conèixer el jo.
Aparentemente la función de la imagen es la de ilustrar la acción que se desarrolla en el texto, mientras que éste debe explicar lo que vemos en aquella. Más allá de esta complementariedad, las relaciones se amplían en el caso de la imagen fotográfica, frente a las imágenes sintéticas, debido a su especial estatus como index. El diálogo entre ambos medios expresivos genera una alteración mutua, tanto de las coordenadas espacio-temporales como de la noción de referencialidad: ni una fotografía es sólo un documento real ni un texto literario una ficción. Se observan estas relaciones en la obra de Wright Morris, Duane Michals y Sophie Calle mediante un elemento visual y conceptual característico de cada uno de ellos -ventana, espejo y sombra- que relaciona la manera de conocer el mundo y de conocerse uno mismo.
At first sight, the role of the image is to illustrate the action taking place within a text, whereas this one has to explain what we see in the image. Beyond this collaboration, we find deeper relationships when talking about photographic image, in opposition to synthetic images, due to its special status as index. Dialogue between photography and a so-called literary text creates a mutual alteration, related not only to time and space but also to the question of referentiality: neither a photograph is only a real document nor a text is a fiction. We observe these changes in the works of Wright Morris, Duane Michals and Sophie Calle by means of three visual and conceptual elements -window, mirror and shadow- which connect the way to know the world and ourselves.

From a more traditional point of view, it is common to treat photography as a piece of reality, as a technique capable of recording a single moment, the "decisive moment". However, it is in seeking to reveal other paths followed, other photographic possibilities, that this dissertation is structured. From the record of an action or an idea that does not end in a single instant capture, the spatiotemporal relationship in photography gets other dimensions. This type of expansion can be analyzed in the photographic sequences, the central theme of this dissertation. Thus, our approach emphasizes works that have a chain of pictures, which, interconnected, offer the viewer an idea of continuity of what one wants to express. Developing a definition of photographic sequence, we analyzed some modes of creation and how the production of meaning through the visual elements of sequential art and, of course, of photography, works. In addition, we point out, in this discussion, the sequence as a way to enhance the narrative and expressive character of the photographic medium, which consequently relates to other areas of artistic expression. We aim here photography as a significant system, wide in creative possibilities and increasingly absorbed, in various ways, by the art field. The theoretical and exploratory research of this work is based, in addition to the bibliography of areas related to the theme, on the work and the creative process of some artists who make use of photographic sequences in their art. We give special attention to the photographer Duane Michals, a very important figure in the landscape of contemporary photography, and precursor in the creation of photographic sequences telling stories or showing poetry.
Sob um ponto de vista mais tradicional, é comum que a fotografia seja tratada enquanto fragmento da realidade, enquanto técnica capaz de registrar um momento único, o “instante decisivo”. No entanto, é na busca de revelar outros caminhos seguidos, outras possibilidades fotográficas, que o presente trabalho se fundamenta. A partir do registro de uma ação ou de uma ideia que não se encerra em um único instante de captura, a relação espaço-temporal na fotografia ganha outras dimensões. Esse tipo de expansão pode ser analisado nas sequências fotográficas, tema central desta dissertação. Com isso, nossa abordagem enfatiza trabalhos que apresentam um encadeamento de fotos que, interligadas, oferecem ao espectador uma ideia de continuidade do que se quer expressar. Desenvolvendo uma definição de sequência fotográfica, analisamos quais seus possíveis modos de criação e como se dá a produção de sentido através de elementos visuais próprios da arte sequencial e, claro, da fotografia. Além disso, destacamos, nessa discussão, a sequência enquanto forma de se potencializar o caráter narrativo e expressivo do meio fotográfico, o que, consequentemente, o aproxima de outras áreas de expressão artística. Visamos aqui a fotografia enquanto sistema significante, vasto em possiblidades criativas e sendo cada vez mais absorvido, de formas diversas, pelo campo da arte. A pesquisa teórica e exploratória deste trabalho tem como base, além da bibliografia de áreas relacionadas ao tema, o trabalho e o processo criativo de alguns artistas que fazem uso da sequência fotográfica em suas obras. Damos destaque especial ao fotógrafo Duane Michals, figura de grande relevância no cenário da fotografia contemporânea, sendo precursor na criação de sequências fotográficas que se aproximam de histórias e poemas visuais.

Ce mémoire de thèse se concentre sur le développement de réactions multicatalysées impliquant une activation iminium et un transfert d’hydrogène réversible rédox-neutre pour la synthèse de briques moléculaires complexes énantioenrichies à partir de composés 1,3-dicarbonylés et d’alcools allyliques.Une cascade réactionnelle combinant un complexe de fer et une pyrrolidine chirale a été développée pour la préparation d’alcools g-fonctionnalisés énantioenrichis par une approche impliquant économie d’étapes et d’atomes. L’efficacité de cette méthode impliquant une catalyse duale ainsi qu’une étape de rétro-Claisen a été démontré dans la synthèse de fragments clés de produits naturels. Cette méthodologie a ensuite été complétée par une étude mécanistique expérimentale aboutissant à une meilleure compréhension du mécanisme de cette transformation et conduisant également au développement d’une catalyse triple impliquant deux complexes métalliques et un organocatalyseur. Par la suite, une nouvelle approche pour la synthèse de lactones énantioenrichies de taille de cycles moyens a été mise au point. Cette stratégie de synthèse est basée sur une addition-1,4- organocatalysée énantiosélective de Michael, suivie d’une réduction chimiosélective qui engendre une fragmentation de Claisen.Enfin, grâce aux méthodologies développées au cours de cette thèse, la synthèse totale d’un produit naturel, la floribundane B, a été étudiée
This manuscript is focus on the development of multicatalyzed reactions involving iminium activation and reversible neutral hydrogen transfer reaction for the synthesis of complexe enantioenriched building blocks from allyl alcohols and 1,3-dicarbonyls.An unprecedented cascade catalysis combining an iron catalyst and a pyrrolidine-base catalyst is developed for the preparation of g-fonctionalized enantioenriched alcohols in a formal redox-, atom- and step-economical approach. The efficiency of this method involving a dual catalysis and a retro-Claisen xas further demonstrated in the short synthesis of several key fragments of biologically active natural products or odorant molecule. This methodolgy was then incremented by a experimental mechanistic study allowing a better understanding of the mechanism of this transformation and leading to a new catalytic systeminvolving three different catalysts (iron complex, copper and organocatalyst). Then, we focused on the development of a new synthetic approach to enantioenriched medium-sized lactones. This methodology is based on a 1,4-Michael addition of cycloalkane-1,3-diones to a,b-insaturated aldehydes. Then, a key chemoselective reductively triggered Claisen fragmentation occurred to generate desired lactones in a rapid manner.Finally, thanks to our methodology developed during this thesis, the total synthesis of floribundane B was studied

Abstract:
Seduction is a sexual act, a sex instinct expression, a love practice, a body performance, a psychoanalytical problematic, a philosophical issue, a creative strategy full of phantasies from art to politics, from advertising to entertainment, from personal intimacy to mass-media. Seduction is basis of strip-tease profession, of course! But it is also a cultural metaphor. Seduction is an indispensable part of acting in performing arts. In cinema, actors and actress seduce spectators. In photography, photographer and photographed one, they seduce reciprocally. Seduction has very strong mythological origins. On the other hand, superman of Nietzsche, gaze of Bataille, objet petit a of Lacan are some adequate contemporary parameters to discuss the seduction concept. In this context, Le Samura? (1967) of Jean-Pierre Melville, Magic Mike (2012) of Steven Soderbergh, Jupiter Ascending (2015) of Lana and Andy (Lilly) Wachowski are our cinematographic examples. Eikoh Hosoe's project ‘Barakei' (1961), Duane Michals' project ‘Questions without Answers' (2001), Mehmet Turgut's self-portrait series (2000's) are our photographic examples. Within the text, we evaluate all these popular culture examples by using the mentioned parameters to describe what the seduction is.

Abstract:
This chapter examines Supreme Court cases that were filed in Texas over the issue of capital punishment. When it comes to executions, Texas leads the nation by a wide margin. Between 1997 and 2000, Texas executed 132 people—significantly more than any other state since executions resumed after 1976. After the executions of Michael Richard and Carlton Turner, the Court started chipping away at capital punishment in the late 1960s. The chapter discusses cases relating to the constitutionality of the death penalty, including Branch v. Texas and Furman v. Georgia, as well as cases that came after thirty-five states and the federal government passed new legislation reinstating the death penalty. These include Smith v. Texas and cases involving Johnny Paul Penry, Robert Tennard, Jose Ernesto Medellin and Humberto Leal Garcia, Bobby J. Moore, and Duane Buck.

Soc. 2009, 131, 8855) a similar approach to diarylated ternary stereogenic centers. Motomu Kanai and Masakatsu Shibasaki of the University of Tokyo developed (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2009, 131, 3858) a complementary approach to dialkylated stereogenic centers based on enantioselective conjugate cyanation of α-methylene N-acylpyrroles such as 3. Cathleen M. Crudden of Queen’s University established (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2009, 131, 5024) that a benzylic organoborane, prepared by enantioselective hydroboration of styrene, coupled with an aryl iodide such as 6 in good yield and with > 90% retention of ee. Kwunmin Chen of National Taiwan Normal University devised ( Adv. Synth. Cat. 2009, 351, 1273) an organocatalyst for the enantioselective Michael addition of an α,α,-dialkyl aldehyde such as 9 to a nitroalkene. Wenhu Duan of the East China University of Science and Technology and Wei Wang of the University of New Mexico together developed (Organic Lett. 2009, 11, 2864) an organocatalyst for the enantioselective addition of nitromethane 12 to an unsaturated ketone such as 11. Xiaodong Shi of West Virginia University found (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2009, 48, 1279) that commercial diphenyl prolinol effectively promoted enantioselective conjugate addition of 15 to 14. Francesca Marini of the Università degli Studi di Perugia extended (Adv. Synth. Cat. 2009, 351, 103) this approach to selenones, effecting, over two steps, enantioselective vinylation.

Abstract:
Al igual que ocurre en un libro, una secuencia de imágenes impulsa determinados procesos de lectura propios de la estructura vermicular y de la relación causal entre los signos visuales que cohabitan o se suceden en esa secuencia. La obra fotográfica Anomalía en el libro de Kells (2018) se presenta como una serie formada por páginas sobredimensionadas en las que se incluyen y ordenan ciertas imágenes, propiciando un diálogo entre sí y entre los espacios en blanco que las separan. Como parte de la obra aparece también el llamado pie de foto el cual, adoptando determinados posicionamientos se convierte en un signo visual más . Esta investigación se centra en lo que ocurre cuando la imagen fotográfica se convierte en la figura citada en un texto, pero su relación con él no queda limitada a una mera ilustración enciclopédica, sino que subvierte su función y se desliza por las lindes de la referencia. El texto en este caso no nomina, no traduce ni enlaza de forma arbitraria a la figura que cita. ¿Cómo afecta a la lectura -ese proceso de desencriptado que se realiza de manera instantánea cuando el lector /espectador se enfrenta a la organización convencional de una página- que las conexiones entre significado y significante se materialicen en todo un campo de posibilidades? El análisis del acontecimiento narrativo desde sus estructuras fijas y pactadas hasta la observación directa de ciertas obras plásticas como las de Hamish Fulton, Victor Burgin o Duane Michals que conjugan formalmente texto e imagen; además de el análisis de los trabajos de directores de fotografía como Alberto Bianda o John Szarkowski conforman el método de investigación de este artículo y aportan las claves para desentrañar los distintos niveles formales y conceptuales en los que el suceso se desenvuelve.
