Abstract:
For real autonomous systems of differential equations with continuously differentiable right-hand sides, the problem of detecting the exact number and localization of the second-kind limit cycles on the cylinder is considered. To solve this problem in the absence of equilibria of the system on the cylinder, we have developed our previously proposed ways consisting in a sequential two-step application of the Dulac – Cherkas test or the Dulac test. Additionally, a new way has been worked out using the generalization of the Dulac – Cherkas or Dulac test at the second step, where the requirement of constant sign for divergence is replaced by the transversality condition of the curves on which the divergence vanishes. With the help of the developed ways, closed transversal curves are found that divide the cylinder into subdomains surrounding it, in each of which the system has exactly one second-kind limit cycle. The practical efficiency of the mentioned ways is demonstrated by the example of a pendulum-type system, for which, in the absence of equilibria, the existence of exactly three second-kind limit cycles on the entire phase cylinder is proved.

Abstract:
This thesis is devoted to the local geometric linearization of completely integrable systems in the C1 category. The subject is the geometric linearization conjecture proposed (and proved in the analytic case) by Nguyen Tien Zung. We start from linear systems and introduce normalization in the formal category. Wes how that an integrable system can be decomposed into a hyperbolic part and an elliptic part. We establish a good Poincaré-Dulac normal form for the vector fields and discuss its relation with geometric linearization. We prove that weakly hyperbolic integrable systems are geometrically linearizable byusing Chaperon’s tools. We then study integrable systems on small dimensional spaces: if the dimension is no more than 4, then most cases are geometrically linearizable; in particular, geometric linearization works for integrable system of focus-focus type. Finally, we generalize the proof to high dimensions and propose a condition about strongly invariant manifolds, under which we linearize the systems in the geometric sense. We also manage to normalize an R × T-action of several focuses by referring to the ideas of Zung

Abstract:
In thirty years, the number of second homes for recreation fishers in coastal Terrebonne Parish has grown from 244 in the late 1970s to an estimated 2,500 in 2005. This thesis considers the ramifications of the tourism boom along the parish's historically isolated and undeveloped coastline. Four coastal communities are examined: (1) Montegut, Pointe-aux-Chenes and Isle de Jean Charles; (2) Cocodrie and Chauvin; (3) Dulac; and (4) Dularge and Theriot. The research question is twofold: Why has coastal tourism been allowed to develop in the fragile wetlands that protect residents from dangerous storms?; and What does tourism development mean for the indigenous American Indian and Cajun people who live along the coast? The author argues the proliferation of recreation fishing camps has had a serious dislocating effect on coastal Terrebonne's population, and the ongoing development of the tourism industry will devastate culturally rich bayou regions.

Abstract:
When k > = 2, there exist domains not belonging to Ck which are biholomorphically equivalent to Ck, these are the domains called Fatou-Bieberbach. Our work consisted of studying if the basin of attraction of a chain of holomorphic contractions is equivalent to Ck. Our proposed method permitted establishing new results which generalizes all known results till nowadays. For this purpose, we proved a linearization theorem of Poincaré for chains and a perturbed Poincaré-Dulac theorem as well

Abstract:
In the 1920s, filmmaker-theorists such as Germaine Dulac argued in favour of what today would be called low-definition images. Dulac, for instance, advocates leaving behind cinema’s ‘unquestionable accuracy’ to pursue blurriness and superimposition. In order to create a strong affective impact on the spectator, cinema would have to find ways to avoid simply copying physical reality. But it would also need to pursue this path to establish itself as an art: indefinite images are above all aligned with claims for specificity that seek to establish the autonomy of cinema vis-à-vis other art forms and physical reality alike. The notion that cinema might simply copy was thus rebutted by recourse to a very traditional definition of art, precisely as this definition was being challenged by the historical avant-gardes. Taking a bifocal perspective on two historical moments roughly a century apart, this chapter questions what relevance the 1920s’ endorsement of low definition might have for our time, when such images have become a notable fixture of filmic practices, from blockbusters to the avant-garde

Abstract:
Pure cinema is situated in terms of a larger aesthetic narrative that involves visual artists, theorists, intellectuals, and avant-garde filmmakers such as René Clair, Germaine Dulac, and Sergei Eisenstein. Hitchcock appears in this milieu in his relation to a German experimental cinema tradition, and most obviously in his work with F. W. Murnau at UFA studios from 1924 to 1925. The chapter traces pure cinema as an evolution of a silent cinematic ethos that championed pure form: shape, pattern, line, symmetry, and the freedom of expression of movement and time within a moving image medium.

Abstract:
This chapter analyses various prototypes of the pulse in cinematic rhythm, namely in the work of American avant-garde filmmaker Stan Brakhage, Structuralist/Materialist filmmaker Peter Kubelka, French Impressionist filmmakers and theorists Jean Epstein and Germaine Dulac, Dadaist filmmakers and artists Hans Richter and Marcel Duchamp, as well as in the protocinematic experiments of Étienne-Jules Marey. It argues that rhythm is concerned with ‘perceived’ movement, while the pulse is concerned with a response to the experience of a ‘felt’ time. This chapter develops this conception of rhythm and the pulse by observing Sigmund Freud’s differentiation between the rhythmic action of stimuli upon the perceptual apparatus and the force of the investment of energies in the unconscious/drives.
