Abstract:
Cecilia McDowall is noted for her ‘practical’ approach to composing choral music to suit the needs and capabilities of local amateur choirs, and she has a growing association with several, notably the St Albans Choral Society, by whom she was commissioned to write a new setting of the Stabat Mater, which duly received its world première in St Albans on 23 October 2004. It was written to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of St Albans Choral Society, and they duly rose to the occasion lustily in fine spirits.

Abstract:
Two fraudsters persuaded Dextra Bank to draw a cheque for $US2,999,000 payable to the Bank of Jamaica (“BOJ”). They led Dextra to believe that BOJ wished to borrow the money as a loan. BOJ, however, was a victim of the same fraud and knew nothing of the loan. The fraudsters had caused it to believe that Dextra was selling US currency to it. BOJ’s foreign currency agents received Dextra’s cheque, and forwarded it to BOJ which duly received payment on it. Shortly before the agents received Dextra’s cheque—and the timing was significant—they had drawn Jamaican dollar cheques on BOJ’s behalf, payable to the supposed sellers of the US currency. In this they acted on the fraudsters’ instructions. Most of the payees of the cheques were fictitious, and once the proceeds had been paid into the relevant accounts, the fraudsters appropriated them.

Abstract:
The fascinating yet still underexplored world of manuscripts hailing from Southeast Asia, including the nation-state of Indonesia, has received some impetus in recent years, thanks to the new appreciation for this written heritage by state and non-state actors both within and without the country. Traditionally perceived as a dry (and hardly scientific or ‘intellectual’) subject that was the preserve of a small circle of specialist librarians, codicology (and Asian codicology in particular) has become a vibrant discipline, with several teams of scholars and projects worldwide focusing on manuscripts as objects, as well as on ‘manuscript cultures’. These projects and approaches duly recognise the role of manuscripts (and not only texts) as prime carriers of cultural and civilisational values across time and space, as well as their relevance for the culture and identity of contemporary societies. This essay reviews some recent publications on Indonesian manuscripts catering to researchers as well as the wider public.

Abstract:
Craig Russell's book makes important contributions to the study of European music as it was brought to, implemented in, and shaped by the mission communities of Alta California. This field of inquiry by its nature questions received notions of musical historiography, especially as it pertains to the relationship of documentary and ethnographic evidence. Documents are sparse at best for much of this music, and those that survive represent the musical traditions of the Spanish colonizers. In disciplinary terms, this translates into an interrogation of the relationship between musicology and ethnomusicology. The authors, each representing one of these two fields, present a dialogue between the text under review and other existing work on California mission music and on the ethics and epistemology of postcolonial musicology. Further questions are duly raised about how Russell handles the great complexity of the mission situation, as regards colonial power relations, the applicability (or lack thereof) of Eurocentric historicity, and the delicate matter of representing the viewpoint of the California Indians involved in musical negotiations of culture under the mission system.

Abstract:
The Mediterranean area is densely populated and a very popular tourist destination. This study aimed at gathering up-to-date information on current national pool and spa regulations. We formulated and duly distributed to 20 Mediterranean countries a questionnaire divided into two sections: for pool and spa facilities, respectively. The questionnaire was formulated in such a way that a positive answer would imply that the specific topic was addressed effectively. While all 20 countries responded to the swimming-pool-related questionnaire, only 11 of these countries reported the existence of spa-related regulations. When combining the response overall of all countries for pool and spa facilities together, of a grand total of 606 answers, 183 (30.2%) were positive. The positive answers in the pool section of the questionnaire were 29% of the total of 420 answers while positive answers in the spa section of the questionnaire were fewer (27.8% of the total of 176 answers). The countries were grouped by geographical area of the Mediterranean basin where they are situated. Also, the questions were grouped into broad thematic categories. The paper presents conclusions drawn on the basis of the data received according to these geographical and thematic groupings.

Abstract:
Highlighting the negative aspects of a professional activity can be beneficial in identifying matters that need improvement. However, concentrating on the negative side only may lead to a lopsided view of reality. Much of what has been written regarding community interpreting in recent years seems to portray a less than favourable picture of this professional practice in different parts of the world. This paper will present the results of a survey of Australian practising community interpreters who were asked to share positive aspects of their work. The survey concentrated on five main issues which have been debated in recent studies: the interpreters’ satisfaction with their prescribed role, their perceptions of the usefulness of the code of ethics, their evaluations of the training they had received, their impressions of how they were treated by their clients and their reasons for choosing to work as community interpreters. While the findings cannot be regarded as representative, they provide an encouraging picture of the experiences of formally trained Australian community interpreters, who find their work valuable and rewarding and feel they are duly respected as professionals by service providers and service recipients alike.

Abstract:
Rabindranath Tagore (7 May 1861 – 7 August 1941) was the first non-European poet and lyricist who received the most coveted of international awards, the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913, “because of his profound sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse, by which, with consummate skill, he has made his poetic thought, expressed in his own English words, a part of the literature of the West.” (www.nobelprize.org ) His most notable work highly praised and duly appreciated by The Swedish Academy was Gitanjali: Song Offerings (1912), a collection of poetry, but Tagore is also famous for having written a variety of genres, including drama, essay, novel, novella, short-story, dance-drama, and song. While Tagore is recognized today mostly for his poetry, his short stories also proved to be extremely popular in what is called the Bengali-language version of the genre, and his essays reveal another facet of his personality, and that is his philosophical thought in which he distinguished himself as a language innovator. Rabindranath Tagore’s Śāntiniketan Essays were translated and published by Medha Bhattacharyya in 2020 in a book celebrating Tagore’s “fundamental meditations on life, nature, religion, philosophy, and the world at large.” (Flyer, Bhattacharyya, 2020)

Abstract:
SummaryCommunication errors are identified as a root cause contributing to a majority of sentinel events. The clinical note is a cornerstone of physician communication, yet there are few published interventions on teaching note writing in the electronic health record (EHR). This is a prospective, two-site, quality improvement project to assess and improve the quality of clinical documentation in the EHR using a validated assessment tool.Internal Medicine (IM) residents at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine (UK) and Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine (MMC) received one of two interventions during an inpatient ward month: either a lecture, or a lecture and individual feedback on progress notes. A third group of residents in each program served as control. Notes were evaluated with the Physician Documentation Quality Instrument 9 (PDQI-9).Due to a significant difference in baseline PDQI-9 scores at MMC, the sites were not combined. Of 75 residents at the UK site, 22 were eligible, 20 (91%) enrolled, 76 notes in total were scored. Of 156 residents at MMC, 22 were eligible, 18 (82%) enrolled, 40 notes in total were scored. Note quality did not improve as measured by the PDQI-9.This educational quality improvement project did not improve the quality of clinical documentation as measured by the PDQI-9. This project underscores the difficulty in improving note quality. Further efforts should explore more effective educational tools to improve the quality of clinical documentation in the EHR. Abstract:
The long-term course to lumbar intervertebral disc herniation (LDH) patients receiving integrative Korean medicine treatment and predictive factors associated with disc resorption were investigated. LDH patients who received integrative Korean medicine treatment from February 2012 to December 2015 and were registered in the “longitudinal project for LDH on MRI” were included. Disc resorption amount was measured 3-dimensionally with disc degeneration and modic change levels on baseline and follow-up MRIs. Patient characteristics, Korean medicine use, pain, symptom recurrence, and satisfaction were assessed through medical records and phone surveys. Of 505 participants, 19 did not show disc resorption, while 486 did. A total of 220 displayed resorption rates of ≥50%. LDH volume at baseline was 1399.82±594.96 mm3, and that on follow-up MRI was 734.37±303.33 mm3, indicating a 47.5% decrease (p<0.0001). Predictive factors for disc resorption were disc extrusion, Komori migration classification, and LDH amount. Approximately 68.4% did not experience symptom recurrence over the 51.86±19.07-month follow-up, and 90.3% were satisfied with Korean medicine treatment. The majority of LDH patients who improved after integrative Korean medicine treatment showed disc resorption within 1 year with favorable long-term outcomes. Predictive factors for disc resorption should be duly considered for informed decision-making. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov NCT02841163.

Abstract:
Technological adaption and innovative activities foster small and medium enterprises (SMEs) growth by allowing production and process diversifications. Furthermore, open innovation practices, especially SMEs, rely on several firms’ specific attributes, and their impact varies accordingly. This study’s motivation is to explore the impact of technological adaptation and open innovation on SMEs run by women entrepreneurs and the challenges encountered in implementing open innovation. A sample of 580 questionnaires was sent to target SMEs, following the stratified random sampling technique, of which a complete 375 responses were duly received. The open innovation has been measured through eight innovative practices, reflecting the exploration and exploitation of technology in SMEs. This study found that women-owned enterprises were involved in many open innovation policies during the last five years. The result of this study indicated that there are no significant differences between manufacturing and industry regarding open innovation practices. Still, women-owned enterprises are more impressively engaged in open innovation practices. The research also identified that women-owned SMEs follow open innovation, mainly for market-related intentions, to compete with competitors and meet customers’ demands. The study contributes to the theoretical and practical implications. Further, the study is helpful for SMEs, researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers.

Abstract:
Abstract. During 1994 and into 1996, Ulysses was at dis-tances of 5 AU or more from Jupiter and travelling from south to north of the ecliptic plane between jovicentric latitudes -36° to 20°. Observations by the Unified Radio and Plasma Experiment (URAP) on board the Ulysses spacecraft during this period have been searched for jovian hectometric (HOM) radio events. At these distances, the HOM was only received occasionally. The signals were generally weak and much care was needed to find and to identify the events. All of the HOM events were observed when Ulysses was at jovicentric latitudes between -12.2° < DUly < 14.7°, relatively close to the plane of the jovicentric equator. Both senses of polarization were observed with left-hand (LH) predominant. The events occurred when the jovimagnetic latitude Df was between -8.5° and 14.2° and suggest that the HOM was only detectable within a beam some 23° wide, centred on about 3° jovimagnetic latitude. This is roughly consistent with previous work by Alexander et al. (1979) and by Ladreiter and Leblanc (1989, 1991), based upon observations made by Voyager and other spacecraft when these were relatively close to Jupiter. The results are consistent with an emission process due to the Cyclotron-Maser instability, as suggested by a number of scientists in the past.Key words. Abstract:
Since the path-breaking work of prominent North American historians such as Joel Tarr and Martin Melosi, as well as more recent roundtables in Europe, urban environmental history is now a mature research field, at the intersection of various related approaches. Time has passed since a leader of environmental history, William Cronon, could write that ‘cities in particular deserve much more work than they have received’. In this field, urban history necessarily crosses with environmental history, but also with the history of technology and social and cultural history; whilst its scholars not only emanate from a traditional historical background, but also from geography, science and engineering. Urban environmental historians, as they are referred to here, have duly established the importance of studying the relationships between ‘nature’ (including non-humans) and humans in and around cities. This ‘nature’ is a complex and shifting entity: recent doctoral studies have, for instance, documented rivers transformed by human action, weeds growing in the spatial and social margins of cities and tidal wetlands progressively filled in and built upon. The recently completed Ph.D.s reviewed in this essay see the built environment more as a hybrid of natural elements, like water, plants, animals and human action. Aided by the environmental lens, the scope of the urban historian has also been broadened by studying the ways in which residents’ lives were transformed by the invention, spread and environmental impact of new technologies, as well as the political responses to environmental crises.

Abstract Legal English, being among the most complex and multifaceted areas of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), has duly received considerable attention on the part of linguists, discourse and learner needs′ analysts, sociolinguists and ESP researchers (Cheng and Cheng, 2014; Hafner, 2013; Hartig and Lu, 2014; Huhta et al, 2013; Shuy 2001). Most research has been carried out to investigate lexical, syntactic, grammatical and other communicative competences of law students in various cycles of higher education. An area that is still highly in need of examination is the development of communicative competences of Legal English among law practitioners who might have had a course of Legal English in their law studies and face with an urge of revision or might have not been introduced to Legal English whatsoever. In light of these observations, the present study examines the needs and problems regarding the use of general and legal English faced by 34 law practitioners, namely lawyers and judges working at two law companies and a district court in Kaunas, Lithuania. The study assumes qualitative methodology including a semi-structured interview and a questionnaire. The results have revealed that communicative competence of legal practitioners gained during their formal education does not meet the demands of their legal practice. While skills of general English appear not to cause many problems, skills of legal English are not developed to an adequate level. Therefore, as the study shows, it is absolutely inevitable to develop and offer in-service education of Legal English carefully attuned to the diverse levels of competences and needs of legal practitioners.

Abstract:
Innovative marketing has given rise to practitioners’ and scholars’ attention in the 21st-century market. Given this, social media marketing has become the order of the day when accessing modern tools for marketing communication. However, the adoption of this innovation comes with its associated challenges, particularly, from a developing country perspective. Against this background, this study sought to examine the inhibitors characterized in the application of social media channels as an innovative tool for advertising and communication among SMEs (small and medium enterprises) in Ghana. For study results to be achieved, a quantitative research approach with a questionnaire of 650 was distributed among managerial staff of the fashion industry in the central part of Ghana of which 512 respondents were duly received and correctly filled for data processing and analysis. Results from the partial least square structural equation method (PLS-SEM), showed that despite the importance of innovation, lack of managerial skills/marketing expertise, perceived cost, regular systems/links upgrade, and financial constraints are significant inhibiting factors affecting the application of social media as advertising and communication tools among SMEs in developing economy. Interestingly, the findings further showed that ’company’s size’ as well as ’availability of social media channel/tool’ significantly control for the outcome variable (internet/social media) as a marketing communication tool. Abstract:
Technology has been the bread and butter of learning not only among school going children, but also those of pre-schoolers. Its access and usage has become the perennial tool to generate learning. Hence, it comes with the effects of the learning process. This study attempts to investigate the concern of pre-schoolers’ parents regarding the access of Information Communication Technology (ICT) that takes place both in school and at home. This has also become the cause of concern for parents as their children are exposed to its access and usage, conveniently 24/7. To conduct this study, questionnaires were given and duly completed by 10 parents in a small school of eighteen pre-schoolers. These pre-schoolers ranged from the ages of 3 to 6 years old. At these ages, the children have ICT knowledge, at home ranging from leisure games, electronic toys, mobile phones, television, CD, and computers. They have well educated parents with concerns on child computer addiction, health matters and lack of social values. Discussions on the findings focus on the advantages and disadvantages of technology access and usage among the pre-schoolers. They also included the questions on methods of access control or preventive measures to ensure safe ICT use for these pre-schoolers. This study took a qualitative approach as it was suitable to access the respondents’ perception and opinion via questionnaires. The analysis of the study results indicated that ICT had positive impact on education. The concern and setback for parents were the health issues, dark webs, and lack or over socialising. More often it is lack of social mingling. Received: 27 June 2021 / Accepted: 9 August 2021 / Published: 5 September 2021

Abstract:
A 3.0 Gsymbol/s/lane receiver is proposed herein to acquire near-grounded high-speed signals for the mobile industry processor interface (MIPI) C-PHY version 1.1 specification used for CMOS image sensor interfaces. Adaptive level-dependent equalization is also proposed to improve the signal integrity of the high-speed receivers receiving three-level signals. The proposed adaptive level-dependent equalizer (ALDE) is optimized by adjusting the duty cycle ratio of the clock recovered from the received data to 50%. A pre-determined data pattern transmitted from a MIPI C-PHY transmitter is established to perform the adaptive level-dependent equalization. The proposed MIPI C-PHY receiver with three data lanes is implemented using a 65 nm CMOS process with a 1.2 V supply voltage. The power consumption and area of each lane are 4.9 mW/Gsymbol/s/lane and 0.097 mm2, respectively. The proposed ALDE improves the peak-to-peak time jitter of 12 ps and 34 ps, respectively, for the received data and the recovered clock at a symbol rate of 3 Gsymbol/s/lane. Additionally, the duty cycle ratio of the recovered clock is improved from 42.8% to 48.3%.

Abstract:
Background: No vaccine is entirely free from the risk of adverse reactions or remote sequel. Knowledge and reporting of AEFI is very important in this vaccine era. Objective of the study was to assess the knowledge of Multipurpose Health Workers (MPHWS) regarding AEFI.Methods: A cross-sectional study was undertaken on randomly selected 30 MPHWs of Beri block. A semi-structured questionnaire was administered after taking verbal consent. The MPHWs had a minimum of one year experience and had received the latest formal training during measles catch up campaign. Data compiled and analysed using appropriate statistical tests. Results: A total of 30 MPHWs duly completed and returned their questionnaires. The mean age was 36.5±2.54 years and mean post-qualification experience was 5.3 years. About 83% of the MPHWs knew that fever, pain, redness and swelling at injection site were symptoms of AEFI and 93% knew about proper storage temperature, dose, route and site of vaccines. Only 56% knew about the storage temperature of diluents and risk of its contamination, 30% knew proper reconstitution of the vaccine. Only 33% knew about filling an adverse event form to report an AEFI. Twenty-five (83.5%) MPHWs had encountered an AEFI and only 14(46.6%) reported such within 24 h. It was observed that level of correct knowledge was decreasing with increasing age of respondents. Conclusions: There was a lack of knowledge about the cause, identification and reporting of AEFI despite periodic training programmes. There is need to train the health workers to improve reporting and prevent complications due to vaccines. There is also further need to ponder over the lacunae in training programmes responsible for persistent inadequate knowledge among MPHWs. Last but not the least “DO NOT FURTHER HARM” should always be the primary aim.

Abstract:
In June 2007 David Summers was digging in his garden at Wroughton (NGR SU 14778117), just south of Swindon, Wiltshire, when he noticed a small bifacial flint tool. Realising that it was something interesting he e-mailed photographs to Devizes Museum where the now-retired curator, Paul Robinson, identified it as a Lower Palaeolithic hand-axe. The implement is a small pointed bifacial tool, conforming exactly to Wymer's (1968) type F hand-axes; it measures 60 mm long, 47 mm wide and is 29 mm thick. The object is unrolled, suggesting that it had not moved far from the point where it was dropped, but is heavily stained. Nothing like it was known from the immediate area although hand-axes have been recorded from the summit of Hackpen Hill, 7 km to the south (Roe 1968) with others, including small implements, from one of the most prolific sites in Britain at Knowle Farm (Roe 1968) on the edge of Savernake Forest. It was suggested that the present author might be interested in the axe and could perhaps tell him more about it. Some digital photographs were duly received and confirmed, with a caveat that the comment was being made from photos, that the object did, indeed, appear to be a small hand-axe. It was added to the County Sites and Monuments Record (SMR) and was also taken to the British Museum, where it was confirmed as a hand-axe. Nick Ashton, Curator of Palaeolithic and Mesolithic Collections, also commenting from photographs, considered that it certainly looked like a hand-axe but contributed that the back garden provenance was unusual and suggested that it may have been originally found elsewhere.

Abstract:
Background: Research suggests that nurses generally do not participate in ethical decision-making in accordance with ethical guidelines for nurses. In addition to completing their training, nurses need to reflect on and use ethically grounded arguments and defined ethical values such as patient’s dignity in their clinical work. Objectives: The purpose of this article is to gain a deeper understanding of how nurses deal with ethical decision-making in daily practice. The chosen research question is “How do nurses participate in ethical decision-making for the patient?” Design and method: We use Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics as well as Kvale and Brinkmann’s three levels of understanding in interpreting the data material. Nine registered nurses were interviewed. Ethical considerations: The Ombudsman of Norwegian Social Science Data and the head of the hospital approved the investigation. The participants received both oral and written information about the study and they gave their consent. We informed the participants that the participation was voluntary and that they were free to withdraw at any point in the course of the study. The requirement of anonymity and proper data storage was in accordance with the World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki (1964). The participants were assured that privacy, and confidentiality would be duly protected. Results: Four key themes emerged: (1) confusion in relation to professional and operational expectations of role, (2) ideal somnolence, (3) inadequate argumentation skills, and (4) compound pressure. Conclusion: Ethical ideals appear to be latent in the mindset of the participants; however, the main finding of this investigation is that nurses need to activate the ideals and apply them into practice. Furthermore, management needs to initiate professional reasoning and interdisciplinary discussions leading to common goals for patients.

Abstract:
Niels Krabbe: Paul von Klenau and his ninth Symphony – the sources, the work, the reception In 2001, the Royal Library learned about a comprehensive private collection in Vienna that contained music, letters and lecture manuscripts, photographs and other archive materials of the Danish composer Paul von Klenau (1883–1946). A preliminary survey of the collection revealed that the contents included a number of music manuscripts (symphonies, chamber music concerts and more), which were not known from the rest of the library’s major collection of Klenau works. The collection’s greatest and most interesting work was a major complete “Ninth Symphony” for orchestra, choir and four soloists in eight movements, for a Latin text with a mix of liturgical texts from the Catholic requiem and texts of unknown provenance. In 2005, the library succeeded in acquiring the collection and it was transferred to the Royal Library. Subsequently, the Danish Centre for Music Publication (DCM) organised a philological adaptation and published Symphony No. 9 for the purpose of the premier performance of the work, which duly took place 70 years after it was written, performed as a Thursday Concert in March 2014 and conducted by Michael Schønwandt.Klenau had worked in Germany as a composer and conductor in the 1920s and 1930s. He returned to Denmark in 1939 where he stayed for the rest of his life. Because of his extensive German background he did not receive high recognition in Danish music, despite the range and nature of his musical output. This was mainly because of his relationship with the Third Reich and Nazism, which affected his last years and his posthumous reputation.Symphony No. 9 was composed in the years 1944–45, and is a mix of requiem and a symphony, each in four movements. Due to the text, the work is both a traditional requiem and a requiem about the war. Both in its expression and in its length, it is probably the greatest symphony ever written by a Danish composer. The premier in 2014 received mixed reviews, and Klenau’s attitude to Nazism was discussed once again. The work was criticised for its eclectic character with its mix of late romantic forms of expression on the one side and its accomplished dodecaphonic passages on the other. The newly available Klenau collection from Vienna, including the treated Symphony No. 9, has nuanced and problematised Klenau’s position in Danish music history.

Abstract:
Aluminum–air batteries (AABs) have recently received extensive attention because of their high energy density and low cost. Nevertheless, a critical issue limiting their practical application is corrosion of aluminum (Al) anode in an alkaline aqueous electrolyte, which results from hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). To effectively solve the corrosion issue, dissolution of Al anode should be carried out in a nonaqueous electrolyte. However, the main cathodic reaction, known as oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), is sluggish in such a nonaqueous electrolyte. A dual-electrolyte configuration with an anion exchange membrane separator allows AABs to implement a nonaqueous anolyte along with an aqueous catholyte. Thus, this work addresses the issue of anode corrosion in an alkaline Al–air flow battery via a dual-electrolyte system. The battery configuration consisted of an Al anode | anolyte | anion exchange membrane | catholyte | air cathode. The anolytes were methanol solutions containing 3 M potassium hydroxide (KOH) with different ratios of water. An aqueous polymer gel electrolyte was used as the catholyte. The corrosion of Al in the anolytes was duly investigated. The increase of water content in the anolyte reduced overpotential and exhibited faster anodic dissolution kinetics. This led to higher HER, along with a greater corrosion rate. The performance of the battery was also examined. At a discharge current density of 10 mA·cm−2, the battery using the anolyte without water exhibited the highest specific capacity of 2328 mAh/gAl, producing 78% utilization of Al. At a higher content of water, a higher discharge voltage was attained. However, due to greater HER, the specific capacity of the battery decreased. Besides, the circulation rate of the anolyte affected the performance of the battery. For instance, at a higher circulation rate, a higher discharge voltage was attained. Overall, the dual-electrolyte system proved to be an effective approach for suppressing anodic corrosion in an alkaline Al–air flow battery and enhancing discharge capacity.

Abstract:On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the curriculum of medical informatics at the University of Heidelberg/School of Technology Heilbronn, a written and anonymous inquiry was carried out in March 1992 among the entirety of graduates from the curriculum. The aim of the inquiry was to obtain from the graduates of the curriculum information about their current places of employment, their fields of work, the state of continuing education as well as about their professional position. It was, in addition, intended to obtain from the graduates’ point of view an assessment of the education received during their studies as well as an assessment of the job situation. A questionnaire was sent to all persons having completed their studies by that time (n = 567, as of 1.1.1992). 62.2% of the forms were returned duly filled in; 92.2% of the graduates are employed. 44.5% out of them are working within the field of medical informatics, 53.0% are working outside medical informatics but within the sector of informatics and 2.2% in other fields; 0.3% were without indication. As far as places of employment are concerned, enterprises concentrating on hardware and software development rank first, followed by hospitals and medical institutions affiliated to universities. As far as fields of work are concerned, information systems within the health care sector (especially hospital information systems) as well as medical documentation predominate in the group of those employed within medical informatics, whereas among those not working within medical informatics software engineering as well as database systems and information systems prevail. The judgement passed on the job situation was, in the main, positive. The gross annual income on the average comes to about DM 85,000, every tenth of the graduates draws an income of more than DM 120,000. The assessment of the curriculum on the whole is positive. 68% of the graduates would take up medical informatics again. Twenty-eight of altogether 346 graduates included into the inquiry obtained a doctor’s degree, 2 among them qualified for lecturing in medical informatics.

Abstract:
Introduction: computer algorithmization of production, transport, communication and other processes, which is actively distributed across the countries of all the continents, has received a special name – digitalization of the economy. The speed and independence from distance, in particular, the interworking algorithms for attracting investments are perceived by entrepreneurs with great hope for success. According to the authors of the paper, by 2022 the financial digital technologies can replace up to 28 % of traditional banking and payment transactions, up to 22 % of insurance and foreign trade financing transactions. In the short term, the relevance of introducing the legal regulation of digital investment tokens will be duly evaluated, so long-term foreign trade projects for long-term supply of goods, in particular, by the economic entities of the BRICS jurisdictions, will receive increasing financial support. In the scientific paper, the authors studied the activities of the Russian legislators on forming the legal regulation of the digital economy for the purpose of identifying their mistakes and shortcomings, as well as substantiating recommendations for the consolidation in the legislation of the viable legal structures which can be used by the economic entities of the BRICS jurisdictions in long-term foreign trade transactions that require large financial resources for a period of 1 year or more. Relying entirely on the materialistic worldview and the general method of historical materialism the authors used the general scientific and specific scientific (comparative law, normative-dogmatic, statistical, hermeneutic) methods for the study. As a result, the authors proved that the development of ICO investments would continue rapidly. The growing popularity of ICO will promote the technical “base” of the token market and strengthen the crypto protection of smart contracts and transactions within their performance. Tokens, as digital crypto records on the Internet resources, used by the participants of foreign trade transactions of the BRICS jurisdictions – the organizers of investments, by 2022 will become the usual investment instruments, such as bonds or shares. The conclusions and recommendations on the correction of the Russian bills are formulated; the proposals for improving the infrastructure of remote investments in the Internet space of modern Russia are given. On the basis of a critical analysis of the scientific works of the economists and lawyers, the authors formulate the definitions of the studied tools of remote digital interaction of investors and organizers of investment of long-term foreign trade transactions, which can be carried out including the economic entities of the BRICS jurisdictions.

Abstract:
As an issue was raised with respect to the following paper published in the Journal of Disaster Research (JDR), we conducted an investigation. A) Paper published in the JDR Yasuki Iizuka, Katsuya Kinoshita, and Kayo Iizuka, “A Distributed Autonomous Approach to Developing a Disaster Evacuation Assist System,” J. Disaster Res., Vol.10, No.6, pp. 1081-1090, 2015. (Received: July 31, 2015, Accepted: October 21, 2015, Published: December 1, 2015) B) Paper compared Yasuki IIZUKA, Katsuya KINOSHITA, Kayo IIZUKA, “Agent Based Disaster Evacuation Assistance System,” Information Engineering Express International Journal, Vol.1, No.2, pp. 41-50 (2015). (Published: June 30, 2015) 1. Results of Investigation – The texts of the two papers were compared, whereupon a percentage match exceeding 47 percent was found in terms of the number of words. When the comparison was made with the initially submitted manuscript, that is, the manuscript before it was revised based on peer reviews, the percentage match with paper B was 58 percent. – When the conclusions of the two papers were compared, they were found to be nearly identical, from which we conclude that paper A does not display sufficient novelty. – Paper B is not cited as a reference in paper A, and when the same figure appears in the two documents, its source is not cited. – It was found that, during the period from manuscript submission to publication, the authors failed to submit paper B as a previously published paper, as stipulated in Article 11.2 of the JDR Instructions to Authors (Japanese version), or otherwise submit any documentation that refers to the existence of paper B. 2. Decision As a result of the above investigation, the JDR editorial board concludes that paper A constitutes a duplicate submission and is in violation of the JDR Instructions to Authors (Japanese version). Its acceptance is thereby revoked, and it has been duly removed from the JDR official website. Abstract:
Based on the archival documents of the Russian State Library (RGB), the article studies the questions on the situation with librarianship in Russia before the October Revolution of 1917 and in the early post-revolutionary years. Introduction of the new sources and the new interpretation of the continuity and interaction of specialists after the Revolution determine the scientific novelty of the study. The source base of the research are the materials of the First All-Russian Congress on Librarianship of 1911 and the First Library Session of the People’s Commissariat of Education in 1919. For the first time the article introduces into scientific circulation the bulk of the materials of the First Library Session, not published in full and stored in the Archive of the Russian State Library. Despite the fundamental changes in life associated with social processes after the October Revolution, practical experience accumulated by libraries in pre-revolutionary times within the Russian Empire, as well as its theoretical understanding became largely the basis for the new organization of librarianship. Evaluation of the development of librarianship in Russia and the need for radical changes in librarianship were formulated at the Congress of 1911. Thanks to the active participation of librarians and book experts in the discussion of the structure of the librarianship, many historical shortcomings of the old system have received professional and competent solution. The dialogue of the new government with the old personnel facilitated this process. The Bolshevik leadership duly appreciated professionalism of the library staff and largely used their suggestions made at the First Library Session, which became the basis for the construction of library network in the country and organization of professional development training. The leadership of the People’s Commissariat of Education took over the establishment of ideological control over the activities of libraries, leaving the practical work under the supervision of employees of these institutions. The author concludes that the subsequent success of the development of librarianship in the USSR demonstrated the correctness of the developed plan, built on the opinion of professionals and created by them in the main features.

Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to present the reception of Sinclair Lewis's novels by Slovene critics. Initially, the article focuses on the life and workof Sinclair Lewis, giving special emphasis to social influences that made the author a representative figure in the literary and social world. Thus his works are nowadays to be understood primarily as fiction, but on the other hand also as sociological documents of a social and political situation of the period between the two world wars. Generally, the effect they produce is one of a critical discussion of the nation of the United States. When speaking of the social relevance that Lewis's novels have, it is obvious that his works are the portrayals of Americans and their deficiencies. At the time of their publication Lewis's novels received unfavourable criticism on accountof his overly open pro-European attitude and Slovene critics of the period before World War II emphasise this in much detail. It was precisely this anti-American propaganda in the novels themselves and sincerity on the part of the novelist that won the European critics as well as the readers whenit came to appreciating his works. However, Lewis's view of the Americans, as presented throughout his works, only enhanced his literary credibility as a modern writer. That is why the articles by Slovene critics that appeared after the Second World War, and even more significantly after Lewis's death, almost minutely reflect a more favourable attitude to Sinclair Lewis, which was also the case with foreign literary criticism of the post-war period. Critics still discuss the qualities and flaws of Lewis's novels, but being more lenient they no longer profess that the novels lack in artistic value. They remain, however, primarily relevant as social documents of the pre- and post-war era, which fully presented the American middle-class mentality in America and elsewhere. For this reason, the Nobel Prize for Literature awarded to Sinclair Lewis in 1930 seems duly justified. It signifies appreciation and respect that the American and European readers as well as critics used to have and still have for Sinclair Lewis. Therefore, it is no surprise that his novels are being translated in several foreign languages even in modern times.

Abstract:
Section 129(1)(a) read with section 130(1) and 130(3) of the National Credit Act 34 of 2005 (the NCA) provides that, as a required procedure before debt enforcement, a credit provider must draw the default to the consumer's notice in writing and propose that the consumer refer the credit agreement to a debt counsellor, alternative dispute resolution agent, consumer court or ombud with jurisdiction, with the intent that the parties resolve any dispute under the agreement or develop and agree on a plan to bring the payments under the agreement up to date. Even though section 129(1)(a) is silent as to the method by which the default should be brought to the consumer's notice, section 130(1)(a) provides clarity by requiring the section 129(1)(a) notice to be delivered. It appears that a credit provider who fails to comply with the provisions of section 129(1)(a) prior to debt enforcement by means of litigation will be in a procedural predicament as the credit provider will not possess a complete cause of action thus, for instance, rendering the summons excipiable. The crucial question thus appears to be whether or not in a given situation one may say that there was proper compliance with section 129(1)(a) as this directly affects the existence or absence of a complete and proper cause of action. A number of factors has to be considered in order to address this question, the most important being if the section 129(1)(a) notice was duly 'delivered'. In this regard two questions are especially relevant: a) When exactly can it be said that a section 129(1)(a) notice was 'delivered' for purposes of the NCA? b) Is it necessary for such notice to be received by the consumer in order to constitute proper compliance with the delivery requirement pertaining to section 129(1)(a)? The above questions were decided on in a recent judgment, Marimuthu Munien v BMW Financial Services (SA) (Pty) Ltd Case no 16103/08 (KZD) (unreported). This article will analyse section 129(1)(a) of the NCA by inter alia considering the above questions against the backdrop of the particular decision.

Abstract:
In this paper, we propose a data dissemination protocol for asynchronous duty-cycling wireless sensor networks. In an asynchronous duty-cycling network, each node independently selects its wake-up time. In this environment, data dissemination becomes energy consuming, because broadcasting a packet does reach all neighbors but only the neighbors that are awake at the time. A node can forward its packet to all neighbors by continuously transmitting the packet for a whole wake-up interval, but it leads to high energy consumption and high dissemination delay. The idea proposed in this paper is to use opportunistic forwarding, where each node forwards the packet to a neighbor that wakes up early and receives the packet. Each node forwards the packet, as long as there is a neighboring node that has not received the packet yet. The main benefit of this opportunistic forwarding-based dissemination is that every time a packet is disseminated, it may take a different path to reach the nodes. At the beginning of dissemination, a sender needs to transmit for a very short duration of time because there are plenty of neighboring nodes to receive the packet. As more nodes receive the packet, the transmit duration of the sender becomes longer, thus consuming more energy. Since the order of dissemination is different every time, energy consumption is naturally balanced among the nodes, without explicit measures. Through extensive simulations, we show that the proposed protocol achieves longer network lifetime and shorter dissemination delay compared to other dissemination protocols in various network environments.

Abstract:
The questions of creation and progress of the Department of Ukrainian History and Ethnopolitics of the Oles Honchar Dnipro National University. It was found out that it was created in 1938 as a department of Marxism-Leninism. At the beginning of its existence, the department operated as a general university, consisting of a small group of teachers, representatives of a new generation of educators who were practiced as professional historians already in Soviet times. Despite the rigid ideological dictatorship of the ruling party, the existing methodological monism, the staff of the department in the postwar period duly fulfilled tasks in the field of organization of teaching, methodological and educational work. It is also noted that since the end of the 1970s, the research activity of the unit has become much more active. This was manifested in the formation of prof. A. Chernenko is a powerful scientific school for the study of political emigration. It was emphasized that during the Soviet period the department changed its name several times (history of the CPSU, political history), but the distinctive features of its employees remained: professionalism, high responsibility, competence, decency. Following the proclamation of Ukraine’s independence, the department (in 1992) received the title of Ukrainian history and ethnopolitics and was transformed into an integral part of the historical faculty of the State Duma. In turn, the main line in the teaching staff of the early twenty-first century. becomes adaptation to the requirements of the credit-module system, a thorough restructuring of the entire educational process, associated with the teaching of the course «History and Culture of Ukraine». At the same time, the transformation of the theoretical and methodological tools of the scientific and pedagogical staff of the department takes place, and the subject field of their scientific studies is expanding considerably. The latter is mainly connected with the study of the activities of political parties and civic organizations of different ideological directions, problems of Ukrainian state formation, peculiarities of the formation of industrial society in the Ukrainian lands. At the current difficult stage of development of higher education in Ukraine, the department remains an organic structural subdivision of the Oles Gonchar DNU and, together with the entire teaching staff of the university, is looking for new opportunities for activating all spheres of its activity.

Abstract:
If a person has been duly sworn as a witness in a judicial proceeding, he must answer any relevant question put to him. If he does not do so, he risks being held by the judge to be in contempt of court and punished by being imprisoned or fined. The fact that the witness finds it repugnant to his sense of honour to give an answer which will break a confidence reposed in him by someone else does not excuse him from his duty. The public interest in the disclosure of all matters relevant to a judicial proceeding is regarded as so important that it prevails over any considerations of private honour between individuals. It is simply no answer for a witness to say ‘I was told this in confidence by a person who trusted me to keep his confidence’. This general attitude of English law has obvious and unwelcome implications for clergymen. A priest or clergyman will in the course of his ministry often receive private information from members of his flock, which his priestly duty requires him to keep secret. He might well be obliged to choose between disregarding his priestly duty or suffering legal penalties, which may be severe. Moreover, the prospect of having to submit him to this invidious choice will be repugnant to the judge; and the fact of such a choice being put, and of the clergyman being sent to gaol for doing his duty, is bound to cause dismay in large sections of the public. The possibility of this conflict of church and state actually happening is extremely small, but the fact that it exists at all is dismaying to many persons.

Abstract:
We calculated the regional deposited dose of inhaled particulate matter based on number/mass concentrations in Amman, Jordan. The dose rate was the highest during exercising but was generally lower for females compared to males. The fine particles dose rate was 1010–1011 particles/h (101–102 µg/h). The PM10 dose rate was 49–439 µg/h for males and 36–381 µg/h for females. While resting, the PM10 deposited in the head airways was 67–77% and 8–12% in the tracheobronchial region. When exercising, the head airways received 37–44% of the PM10, whereas the tracheobronchial region received 31–35%. About 8% (exercise) and 14–16% (rest) of the PM2.5 was received in the head airways, whereas the alveolar received 74–76% (exercise) and 54–62% (rest). Extending the results for common exposure scenarios in the city revealed alarming results for service workers and police officers; they might receive PM2.5 and 220 µg/h PM10 while doing their duty on main roads adjacent to traffic. This is especially critical for a pregnant police officer. Outdoor athletic activities (e.g., jogging along main roads) are associated with high PM2.5 and PM10 dose rates (100 µg/h and ~425 µg/h, respectively).

WHEN a chargee (a term which we can take for present purposes to include a mortgagee) appoints a receiver or takes other steps to enforce his security, the general rule is that self-interest prevails, so that neither he nor his receiver is required by the law to have any great concern for the interests of the chargor or any other person interested in the equity of redemption (such as the holder of a junior-ranking security) or a guarantor of the chargor's obligations. This is well illustrated by Shamji v. Johnson Matthey Bankers Ltd. [1991] B.C.L.C. 36, C.A. (a chargee is under no duty towards the chargor in deciding whether to appoint a receiver), and Gomba Holdings U.K. Ltd. v. Most of study objects selected in realized architectural works have received positive evaluation during the period. The author seeks to find the aesthetic appeal and relevant reasons of contemporary wooden architecture not only analysing the objects but also their context. It is a systematic study of architectural items which are sorted into three groups – the paper sections, each of which is a recipe of manner in some environment, a kind of successful design code. The first chapter of contemporary Lithuanian architecture gives examples about successful integration of a new structure into historic wooden urban environment, where adaptation or interpretation nuances of wood in architectural expression is an obvious continuation of the tradition and spirit of the local character. In the second chapter the author analyses new architectural objects in the landscape, where wood is an important tool for harmonization of timber aesthetic properties and also plant symbolic and traditional meanings. Obvious or associative relationship between new groups of buildings and old wooden settlements in Lithuania are studied in the third section. The paper emphasizes that wood is a significant measure and mark, which joins today’s new cultural ideas and quality with tradition in the architectural expression of new buildings during the period of independence, even though strongly affected by globalization. Wood, duly applied in the work, becomes a guarantee of its success or a mitigating circumstance in assessing artistic and suggestive relationship between the object and its context. Abstract:
Voter turnout theories based on rational self-interested behavior generally fail to predict significant turnout unless they account for the utility that citizens receive from performing their civic duty. We distinguish between two aspects of this type of utility, intrinsic satisfaction from behaving in accordance with a norm and extrinsic incentives to comply, and test the effects of priming intrinsic motives and applying varying degrees of extrinsic pressure. A large-scale field experiment involving several hundred thousand registered voters used a series of mailings to gauge these effects. Substantially higher turnout was observed among those who received mailings promising to publicize their turnout to their household or their neighbors. These findings demonstrate the profound importance of social pressure as an inducement to political participation.

Abstract:
Where a fiduciary receives a bribe or a secret commission in breach of fiduciary duty it remains controversial whether the bribe or secret commission will be held on constructive trust for the principal. The Court of Appeal has held that in most cases there will only be a personal liability to account. That is incorrect. The duty of the fiduciary is to serve the interest of the principal to the exclusion of his own interest. A fiduciary who keeps a profit for himself abuses the trust and confidence placed in him by the principal. He is bound to hand it over to his principal the moment he receives it. Equity's response to a breach of this duty is to enforce the duty by means of the constructive trust.

Abstract:
This paper proposes a new protocol that can be used to reduce transmission delay and energy consumption effectively. This will be done by adjusting the duty-cycle (DC) ratio of the receiver node and the contention window size of the sender node according to the traffic congestion for various devices in the Internet of Things (IoT). In the conventional duty-cycle MAC protocol, the data transmission delay latency and unnecessary energy consumption are caused by a high collision rate. This is because the receiver node cannot sufficiently process the data of the transmitting node during the traffic peak time when the transmission and reception have the same duty-cycle ratio. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an algorithm that changes the duty-cycle ratio of the receiver and broadcasts the contention window size of the senders through Early Acknowledgment (E-ACK) at peak time and off/peak time. The proposed algorithm, according to peak and off/peak time, can transmit data with fewer delays and minimizes energy consumption.

Abstract:
Mirth presents a detailed discussion of the duties of secured parties and receivers to act in good faith under the Personal Property Security Act of Alberta. The focus is on ss. 16 and 66 of the Act which set out requirements similar to those codified in Part 8 of the Alberta Business Corporations Act. First, the duty of receivers to pursue the best possible price on the sale of assets is considered. Mirth then goes on to discuss how the duty of good faith was defined in pre-PPSA situations and determines that the duty will be of much more positive nature in the future: recent cases indicate that the test will be whether the actions undertaken were "commercially reasonable" in the situation. Mirth continues with an analysis of recent Alberta case law which is tending to offer a broad view of the duty of good faith. Ultimately. Mirth concludes that although the Alberta Court may have gone a little far in shifting the burden, the PPSA provisions have definitely resulted in stricter duties for receivers and secured parties than what existed under the old common law regime.
