Abstract:
The DuPont Model of Business is almost 100 years old. It provides a classic template for the decomposition process that can be used to build integrated systems of performance metrics. The marketing field has never embraced the DuPont Model as completely as accounting and finance because the focus is on the earning being return to the owners equity. Earnings flow is not the same as cash flow and marketing managers are more focused on operating profits than net profits. However, the decomposition process that is used to create the DuPont Model can be applied to the process of creating a Marketing Model. The paper reviews the classic decomposition process and uses it to create a new Marketing Model of Profitability.

This article provides an overview of the residual-income stock price valuation model and demonstrates its use in interpreting the DuPont return on equity (ROE) decomposition. The model provides theoretical support for the DuPont model's focus on ROE and aids in understanding the implications of the price-to-book and price-earnings ratios. I conclude with an application of the model in the valuation of Nordstrom, Inc.

Abstract:
This paper presents a model for the financial analysis of a bank based on the DuPont system of financial analysis. The DuPont system of financial analysis is derived from an analysis of return on equity that consists of three parts: 1) operating efficiency as measured by profit margin, 2) asset use efficiency as measured by total asset turnover, and 3) financial leverage as measured by the equity multiplier. The analysis covers the period from mid 2005 to 2009. The DuPont system of analysis assesses the performance of the Arabian institution since its establishment in the Spring of 2005.

Abstract:
This study explores whether voluntary delisting of companies from stock exchanges can be predicted by the DuPont Model. ROE (Return on Equity), NPM (Net Profit Margin), ATO (Assets Turnover) and LM (Leverage Multiplier) of 13 voluntarily delisted firms from Karachi Stock Exchange were compared with same ratios of respective sectors for 6 years preceding the delistment year by applying t-test. Difference of means of DuPont ratios between voluntarily delisted firms and their respective sectors were not found statistically significant. Thus, ROE, NPM, ATO and LM, which are the measures of profitability, asset utilization (efficiency) and leverage respectively, are not the significant predictors of voluntary delisting decisions in Pakistan. To the best of researchers knowledge, this study is first attempt to differentiate between voluntarily delisted and listed companies on the basis of DuPont Model.

Abstract:
: Every company has two major objectives in terms of profitability. i.e. Profit Maximization and Shareholders’ Wealth Maximization. Ratio analysis is a good tool which fosters the utilization of company figures to make proper investment decision for various classes of investors and management for taking right decisions at right time. ROE (Return on Equity) comes into the picture in terms of measuring the wealth maximization. It is basically a composition of ROCE or Return on Capital Employed. American paint manufacturing company named DuPont invented DuPont model of ROE analysis. It basically talks about the key factors contributing the return on equity. It can be used to analyze the return in any industry. In this study, we studied the impact of COVID-19 pandemic in their financial performance using DuPont analysis of the three Nationalized Petroleum company including BPCL, HPCL & Indian Oil Corporation.

Abstract:
This article presents the possible association between the three components (profit generation, asset efficiency and financial leverage) of the DUPONT ratio and share prices. The generalized method of moments (GMM) estimation was used with a sample of 23 companies traded on the Mexican stock exchange between 2008 and 2016, considering a period of three days before and three days after the presentation of the quarterly results. It is noted that the generation of profit and efficiency are the components of the DUPONT model that are strongly associated with stock prices, while the leverage effect is the component with the least impact. This empirical work is intended to help understand the relationship between accounting information and stock prices. The study identifies variables that influence decision-making and does not seek to be a predictive model of the value of actions in the future. This research differs from previous studies because it considers the volatility index (VIMEX) as a control variable.

“Skyscrapers of the plains” is a term which refers to the country elevators spread throughout Kansas and the Midwest, along with the elevators are farmer cooperatives. Farmer cooperatives have been around for more than a century to serve the area farmers as a place to store and market their grain and to purchase their farm inputs. The objective of this research is to identify key profitability drivers of farmer cooperatives of different sizes throughout time. This will be done by using a unique data set gathered from the CoBank’s RiskAnalysis database and examining it with the DuPont model. The project breaks down the data by size, large vs. small, and location. If a cooperative has done more than 100 million dollars in sales in 2010, it was classified as large for the entire time period, all other cooperatives were small. Location was either Kansas or Midwest. In this model, operating profit margin or earns, asset turnover ratio or turns, debt-to-equity ratio or leverage, and spread are examined. Also examined are Return on Assets, the operating performance, and Return on Equity, the financial performance, of the cooperative. Board of Directors and cooperative managers will be able to take this information and hopefully make decisions which make their respective cooperatives more profitable. With the information provided, cooperative managers and Board of Directors will be able to financially compare themselves versus other cooperatives of similar size whether they are in Kansas or in other Midwestern states.

Full text
Abstract:
Background: Over the last few years e-commerce has undergone radical changes, ten percent of which has been, among 56% of all e-commerce data analysis. Data analysis can provide many advantages; global corporations claim that 30% of their sales depend on it. There are three different strategies that Swedish e-commerce businesses can adopt to increase profitability. These are: 1. Reduce costs. 2. Increase revenue. 3. Minimise assets and total capital. Studies show that 35% of all Swedish e-commerce businesses do not have access to relevant data which could result in limiting future development. Purpose and Research Question: This study intends to examine and contribute to the knowledge of whether Swedish e-commerce businesses apply data analysis when developing profitability strategies. Which profitability strategies are used by Swedish ecommerce businesses and how do they utilise data analysis? Method: This study uses a cross-sectional design involving a survey of many e-commerce businesses of which 93 replied, five semi-structured interviews, and secondary data from 20e-commerce businesses. To analyse the empirical data, we used univariate and bivariate analysis together with content analysis. Empirical data: Sixty five out of ninety-three respondents apply data analysis when developing profitability strategies, but a third of the survey participants answered that they do not use them together. The study showed that the most common analytics tools used are descriptive and prescriptive analysis, whilst the most used profitability strategy is to increase revenue and to reduce costs. Conclusion: Swedish e-commerce businesses still lack the resources and knowledge to fully utilise data analysis. One third of Swedish e-commerce businesses do not take advantage of data analysis, even though it can increase sales by up to 30%. Data analysis is the new oil, which also enables value creation. Therefore, this study’s conclusion is that Swedish e-commerce businesses should utilise data analysis and become more data driven.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Analysts, managers or other business executives and students have at their disposal wide variety analytical techniques when they want to evaluate company's financial position or when they wish to better understand the financial implication of business operational activities or investment. This thesis examines the uses of financial analysis as one of the main financial assessment techniques. After describing theoretically the main tools of financial analysis, this thesis determines the practicality of these tools in evaluating the financial health of a car distributor company for the period from year 2002 to year 2009. Despite the fact that the analyzed company's core business is car distributor, this analysis takes into consideration also other activities of the company such as repair center because, as the analysis shows, it influenced the financial results of the company. This thesis is concluded with general outcomes from the financial analysis and with recommendation for the company in order to prevent potential risks and in order to improve its financial results.

Abstract:
Planning, control and monitoring are key processes in material planning and its flow from supplier to end customer. The activities within the planning process can also have a crucial effect on the availability of the company’s products. This thesis examines how planning can be optimized for different products, and aims to develop procedures for the handling of product planning in order to contribute to a better efficiency from a holistic perspective. There’s a need for a clear framework to optimize the conditions for the planning of complex customer orders. The planning process is in need of ancillary activities for optimal outcomes and is based on logistical and financial tools and methods. If these are applied effectively, the lead times can be reduced and the backward scheduling can be simplified, since the right products are stocked and orders are being placed at the right time, with the optimum order quantity for minimizing the costs that may arise. Additionally, a holistic approach is required, where the whole supply chain is involved. The relationships within the network are an important aspect for an optimized planning, to ensure a high delivery precision. The framework that have been produced, includes a basic idea of logical thinking, effective communication channels and the right thing at the right place at the right time. But it should be emphasized that each organization is unique and should adapt this approach to its own business, but still apply the mindset that the framework entails.

Abstract:
The classic Dupont model allows you to evaluate the impact on return on equity of factors such as return on sales; asset turnover and financial leverage. Factor analysis based on the classic Dupont model allows us to determine ways to maximize the profitability of capital invested in the company by owners and shareholders. This study discusses the specifics of using the modified Dupont model, which also allows you to highlight the effect on the use of intangible assets on equity return. A modified Dupont model allows an analysis of the impact of intangible assets on equity return. This is a four-component model that includes the following factors: return on sales; turnover of intangible assets; intangible assets to total assets ratio; financial leverage. Factors that, according to the results of factor analysis, have a negative impact on the return on equity, can be considered as sources of reserve for increasing this indicator.

Full text
Abstract:
This research presents a newly manner to determine an Aggregate Quality (AQ), and consequently a global ranking, of Small and Median Enterprises (SMEs) based upon an integration of the traditional Return on Equity (ROE) or DuPont decomposition into Multicriteria Analysis methods. This approach designs and implements a method named ED-ROE, which is shown as a complementary way to evaluate companies’ ROE (profitability) and to mitigate some imbalances and inconsistencies presented by the traditional DuPont system under economic distress. Therefore, it goes beyond the well-known financial distress because considers not only debt problems, but also other set of criteria (e.g. business risk, operational risk and financial risk) that create a state of concern and worry on Decision Makers (shareholders and stakeholders). The AQ obtained from the ED-ROE approach, which is also a measurement of a company’s performance, relies on PROMETHÉE methods (Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluations), and bases their results on outranking relationships in order to provide accurate information for comparing and evaluating SMEs under distressed environments and multiple decision criteria. The research also introduces some regression models to compare the ED-ROE approach and the DuPont system in terms of their outcomes, consistency, statistical significance, and explanatory power. Summarizing, the main research scope is to provide more elements to justify the decision making process, and offer, at least in the short term, the decision to choose the best SMEs in order to characterize a specific sector or economic activity. The AQ assessment also helps to identify companies that have a good operating management (net profit margin), strong asset management (asset turnover) and outstanding capital management throughout a simultaneously coherent leverage level.

Abstract:
Innovation is the key driver of economic prosperity. It is the product of an ecosystem of at least five interlinked building blocks: social networks and dynamic labor markets, shared assets that lower costs for innovative companies, flexible business models, financial models to support innovation, and appropriate government policies. National innovation systems transform periodically and public policy significantly influences their evolution. Since 1945, the United States has had two dominant systems of innovation. The first relied on vertically integrated firms such as AT&T or DuPont. More recently a second system, the Silicon Valley model of venture capital dominated. A comparison of the U.S. system with that of Korea shows how other countries have adapted the U.S. innovation system to their circumstances.

Abstract:
There is an important strand in modern scholarship on ancient Jewish messianism whose practitioners set for themselves the task of identifying the first messiah. Representatives of this school of thought include Andre Dupont-Sommer, Michael Wise, and Israel Knohl, among others, and their key texts include especially the Qumran Hodayot, the Self-Glorification Hymn, and now the Hazon Gabriel stone. In this chapter it is argued that the quest for the first messiah not only happens to have been unsuccessful so far (as other critics have suggested), but is actually fundamentally misguided. It is misguided not because it is theologically intolerable, but because it is conceptually unstable, presupposing as it does an Idealist model of messianism that is demonstrably incommensurate with the relevant evidence. There are scriptural oracles, and there are ancient Jewish and Christian interpreters, but there is no such thing as the first messiah.

AbstractSupramolecular chemistry (SMC), at the interface between chemistry, physics and biology, is a research domain which has grown considerably in the last 40 years. Jean-Marie Lehn was the first to lay its foundations and formalise its concepts, in a seminal article published in 1978. This work earned him the 1987 Nobel Prize for Chemistry, which he shared with Charles J. Pedersen (DuPont) and Donald J. Cram (UCLA). The development of SMC has led to the creation of a dedicated institute and a new building on the university campus. In this chapter, the emergence of supramolecular chemistry as a paradigm and research speciality at the University of Strasbourg (France) is reconstructed with a focus on Lehn’s central role in this process, proposing a three-period chronology based on Mullins’ sequential model (1972). It is furthermore argued that the creation of a physical space, with particular architecture and functions, has also played a key role in consolidating what is now called the “Strasbourg’s chemistry”. The (multi)disciplinary character of SMC is discussed in reference to the concept of “new disciplinarity” put forward by Marcovich and Shinn (Soc Sci Inf 50(3–4):582–6062011, Toward a new dimension: exploring the nanoscale. Oxford University Press, Oxford, 2014).

Abstract:
Danny Barker was a musician, writer, and storyteller who reveled in narration: written, sung, or spoken. He grew up in a storied family of New Orleans music. Four of Danny’s uncles were musicians, and Danny himself worked at a dime-a-dance place. He courted Louisa Dupont, a Tremé-born Creole, when he was eighteen and she was thirteen. They married three years later in 1930. Well-paying gigs in New Orleans were evaporating during the Great Depression, so Danny and Louisa went to live with Danny’s uncle, Paul Barbarin, and his friend, Red Allen, in New York. Danny found success as a musician, writer, and songwriter, and learned the art of storytelling from his role model Jelly Roll Morton. Louisa, taking on the stage name Blue Lu, made a name for herself as a singer. The couple had a daughter, Sylvia. The two eventually moved back to New Orleans. Danny died on March 13, 1994. He had told Louisa that he didn’t want a jazz funeral, feeling that burial parades were getting too wild, but his band members and friends persuaded her otherwise. The 1994 funeral parade for Danny was among the most beautiful in recent memory.

Abstract:
Laser ablation has become an increasingly important process in the fabrication of microelectronic packaging substrates. In this research, laser ablation has been applied to drilling via holes during the sequential build-up process of a multilayer substrate. Since the quality of the process is influenced considerably by the process set points, studies that characterize the relationship between these conditions and the characteristics of the vias formed are necessary. This paper examines vias with diameters of 30, 40, and 50 μm ablated in DuPont Kapton® E polyimide using an Anvik HexScan™ 2150 SXE excimer laser. A statistical experiment using a 25−1 fractional factorial design was conducted to determine the significance of laser energy, shot frequency, number of pulses, and vertical and horizontal positions of the debris removal system in the laser tool affecting the top via diameter, via wall angle, and the ablated thickness of the dielectric. Several input factors and two-factor interactions were found to be statistically significant (p-value < 0.05). Following the collection of the experimental data, neural networks (NNs) were trained using the error back-propagation algorithm to model the average values of the responses. The prediction error for all the NN models was less than 5.5%.

Abstract:
The transport of charge due to electric stimulus is the primary mechanism of actuation for a class of polymeric active materials known as ionomeric polymer transducers (IPTs). A two-dimensional ion hopping model has been built to describe ion transport in the IPT. In a Monte Carlo simulation, a square lattice of 50nm × 50nm is investigated containing 200 cations and 200 anions. Step voltages are applied between the electrodes of the IPT, causing the thermally-activated hopping between multiwell energy structures. The energy barrier height includes three parts: intrinsic energy, energy height due to the electric field and energy height due to ion-ion interactions. Periodic boundary conditions have been applied in the direction perpendicular to the electric field. The influence of the electrodes on both faces of IPT is formulated by the method of image charges. The charge density profile over the material has been calculated by the ion distribution in steady state. The Monte Carlo simulation is repeated multiple times to obtain an average result of the charge density. The averaged profile shows regions of cation depletion close to the anode, charge neutrality in the central part and ion accumulation close to the cathode, which qualitatively agrees with the results from conventional continuum models. To quantatively examine the Monte Carlo simulation of the ion hopping model, comparisons with a computational model of transport and electromechanical transduction are performed. This computational model is based upon a coupled chemo-electrical multi-field formulation and computes the spatio-temporal charge density profile to an applied potential at the boundaries. It can be seen that both methods, the statistical theory and the continuum theory, match quite well and are both able to represent the actual behavior inside the IPT. Moreover, experiments are performed to validate the current density calculated by the Monte Carlo simulation. The active material is Nafion 117 (Dupont) in the form of a cantilevered transducer with conductive electrodes on both surfaces and with mobile Na+ counter-ions. Voltage inputs are provided by a dSPACE DS 1102 DSP and amplified using an HP power amplifier. The current is measured by placing a small resistor in series with the sample, between the sample and ground. The voltage across the resistor is amplified and measured by dSPACE. The electrical current is calculated by dividing the voltage drop across the resistor by its resistance. Current density in both simulation results and experimental results exhibits an exponential decay over time.

Abstract:
The main aim of this article is evaluate the relationships between income inequality and food security in the light of the experiences of the OECD countries. Understanding the problems of inequality of income and food security is one of the main challenge for economic and social development of the contemporary world. In the part of empirical studies one has used a data from the selected OECD countries by prism of the Gini coefficient of income distribution and relative poverty. In turn, food security is presented from the perspective of the global index of food security (Global Food Security Index), which was developed at the request of DuPont by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). In the case of empirical verification one has used regression analysis and cluster (agglomeration) for typing of the studied countries. Time scope of analysis refers to the period 2010–2015. It was stated that there is a considerable variation in the level of food security, and especially income inequality between countries. This is a consequence of both the differences in the level of economic development, as well as the model of functioning of the economy. A relationships between income inequality and food security are complex and ambiguous. A clearer regularities can be seen in the case of income inequality and food security in the dimension related to the economic affordability of food price. This is due to the fact that issues related to food security are mainly connected with low level of income. In turn, the cluster analysis made it possible to distinguish three groups of countries with different characteristics in terms of income inequality and food security.
