Abstract:
From 1612 to 1990, the Estonian Narva and the Russian Ivangorod not only belonged to the same countries (at different times they were Sweden, Russia, Estonia and the Soviet Union), but they also were one city. The situation changed after the collapse of the Soviet Union and today, with each passing year, the differences between Narva and Ivangorod are becoming deeper and deeper. In this article, the author makes a short introduction to the history of Narva and Ivangorod and analyses the current political, economic and cultural situation in both cities. Narva is particularly important for Estonia’s political life because it has the largest Russian-speaking population in the country. Therefore, after Russia’s occupation of Crimea and the beginning of the Russian aggression in Donbas, Narva has been perceived as the city that may be most threatened by Russian infl uence in Estonia. On the other hand, the Russian authorities consider the surprising difference in economic and infrastructural development between the two cities to be the inconvenient propaganda of the European model of liberal democracy. The author describes how both countries cope with this situation and how ordinary residents of the Estonian Narva and Russian Ivangorod cope with these great political games.

Abstract:
Eleonora Duse (1858–1924), international star, national treasure, and patriotic Italian died in Pittsburgh in April 1924. Those involved in the memorializing process contended for control of her body, attempting to interpolate her renown in competing narratives of national pride and the universality of art. Duse died at a turning point for Italy, the year Mussolini's Fascists became the majority party. For Mussolini and the Fascists, Duse's death became the occasion for a pageant of Italian pride through a series of carefully orchestrated ceremonies. At the same time, the theatre community tried to establish an artistic narrative more akin to the ideals Duse expressed in life. In the end, nationalist motifs dominated the memorial discourse. Duse's own assertions of the importance of spirit over corporeality became an ironic footnote to a story in which the actress's body stood in for the nation.

Abstract:
The occurrence of the bignose shark Carcharhinus altimus at Ducie Island, Pitcairn Islands is reported for the first time based upon re-identification of four museum voucher specimens. The presence of a pregnant female and a juvenile confirms C. altimus breeds at Ducie Island and should be considered resident there. The specimens had been misidentified as the grey reef shark, C. amblyrhynchos, emphasising the ongoing value of collecting museum voucher specimens of supposedly common species. The occurrence of C. altimus at Ducie Island suggests resident populations of C. altimus are likely to occur throughout the tropical and subtropical Pacific Ocean but may have been overlooked due to their preference for deep demersal habitats during the day, or misidentification as other Carcharhinus species.

K-Ar Dating of Amphiboles from Andesite of Complex Dyke in Dubie (Southern Poland) This study presents the results of radiometric K-Ar measurements on separated amphiboles from the andesite of the Dubie complex dyke. The data obtained cover the period of (291.3 ± 6.4) Ma, which corresponds to Carboniferous-Permian transition. The age is contemporaneous to the rhyodacitic and basaltoid volcanism of the Kraków region.

Abstract:
This study sets out to assess responses to international terrorism in Kenya. This stems out of the fact that the terrorism menace has had been a major security challenge facing the country. The study draws a comparison of the Dusit D2 and Westgate terror attacks. Data was collected from a purposive sample of academics as well as serving and retired diplomats, senior police officers and military personnel. Primary data was collected from the respondents using interviews. The findings show that the West gate shopping mall in 2013 and the DusitD2 Hotel attack in January 2019 are replete with major differences. A critical comparison between both attacks shows an immense difference in the response to the terrorist attacks in Westgate Mall and Dust D2. In both cases, there was prior intelligence of the looming attack. However, there was no clear policy framework on intelligence sharing between the various security agencies in Westgate. Additionally, policies on timely multiagency deployment were disjointed in Westgate but improved in Dusit D2. Although the friendly fire was recorded in Westgate, this was not the case in Westgate. There was also a lack of clear policies on hierarchical coordination between different security agencies in Westgate Mall as opposed to Dusit D2. The law had also been more enhanced with the domestication of the 2012 Prevention of Terrorism Act and the creation of the institutions enshrined therein during the Dusit D2 attack. Accountability mechanisms for security agencies had also been improved during the Dusit D2 attack as opposed to Westgate Mall attack where there were cases of indiscipline and looting by state security personnel. Coordination between government officials and security agencies was also smoother in the Dusit D2 attack. Although the terrorists could communicate for some time between themselves and their command center and share publicity information, this was not the case with Dusit D2 where such communication was curtailed immediately. In both attacks though, communication between victims and outside help was poor and unreliable, and false information was passed. This was more prone and documented in the Dusit D2 attack. It is recommended that multiagency response teams should constantly review their operation guidelines and standard operating procedures so as to deal with the ever-changing sophistication in terrorist attacks. The government should put in place ways aimed at checking disparities in capabilities and equipment among various tactical and intelligence teams in Kenya for a uniform response to terrorism. There is a need for multinational frameworks for undertaking financing and creation of joint information infrastructure for security agencies so as to reign in on international terrorism in the East African Region. Training should also be synchronized across security agencies.

Abstract:
After a comprehensive review on the exploitation of information technology in geotechnical engineering and underground engineering, a concept of digital underground space and engineering (DUSE) is proposed. Research results show that DUSE is an innovative new information platform for the life cycle of underground space and engineering. DUSE is also a digital museum of the underground space and engineering. By employing the concept, the method and the techniques provided in DUSE, a more realistic and transparent underground space and engineering could be built; huge amount of data could be easily managed and effectively visualized. Therefore, useful information of these data can be processed, improving working efficiency and promoting the implementation of intelligent decision about the engineering project. In addition, some research topics that need to be further addressed are also discussed.

Abstract:
The objectives of this research were: 1) to survey the level of consumers’ awareness on traditional grocery stores in Dusit District, Bangkok, based on location, service quality , risk, shopping enjoyment, value for money, shopping satisfaction and future shopping intention; 2) to survey the influences of factors including: location, service quality, risk, shopping enjoyment, value for money and shopping satisfaction on future shopping intention of the consumers of the traditional grocery stores in Dusit District, Bangkok. Quantitative and qualitative analyses are used in this research. The quantitative sample comprises of 400 consumers in Dusit District, Bangkok, to whom questionnaires were distributed. In-depth interviews were also conducted with five owners of traditional grocery stores in the same area. In analyzing data of this study, both multiple regression analysis and SPSS for windows were employed. According to the results of this research, it was found that consumers have moderate level of awareness on location, service quality, risk, shopping enjoyment, value for money, shopping satisfaction and future shopping intention. The factors including value for money, shopping enjoyment and the risk strongly influence on shopping satisfaction and the shopping satisfaction influences on the future shopping intention. This research also indicates that the factor on shopping enjoyment mostly stems from the consumers organize activities together at traditional grocery stores.

Purpose: Data on multiple myeloma (MM) in sub-Sahara Africa is scarce. In Uganda, there is a progressively increasing incidence of MM over the years. Methods: We performed a retrospective study on 217 patients with MM at the UCI using purposive sampling method. The objectives of the study were to determine the clinical characteristics, treatment outcomes, 5 year overall survival and predic- tors of survival of patients with MM at the UCI from 01 January 2008 to 31 December 2012. Results: There were 119 (54.8%) males; the mean(SD) age of the study population at presentation was 59(12.8) years; 183(84.3%) patients presented with bone pain, and 135 (61.9%) had skeletal pathology; 186(85.3%) were HIV negative, and 152(70%) had Durie-Salmon stage III. The median overall survival was 2.5 years, (95% CI, 0.393-0.595); factors significantly associated with worse survival were Durie-Salmon stage III disease, HR=5.9, 95% CI (1.61 – 21.74; P=0.007) and LDH >225 U/L HR=3.3, 95% CI (0.57 – 5.92; P=0.029). Conclusion: Most patients with multiple myeloma at the UCI were diagnosed at a relatively young age, presented with late stage disease and bone pain, and had a shorter survival time. Factors associated with worse survival were Durie-Salmon stage III and LDH >225 U/L. Keywords: Multiple myeloma; Uganda cancer institute.

Abstract:
From a historiographical point of view, the Italian diva Eleonora Duse (1858–1924) as an actress-manager offers an original case study in relation to her only film performance in Cenere ( Ashes, 1916). This is a film adapted from the eponymous novel by Grazia Deledda (Nobel Prize for Literature in 1926). In the 1910s, when Duse decided to work in the Italian film industry, she was a celebrity and her name was a guarantee of success for the Ambrosio Company in Turin. The film producers wanted to use her celebrity in order to ensure success at the box office. As an actress-manager with a long and acclaimed international career in the theatre, Duse knew this mechanism very well, but her position was contrary to their expectations. In fact, she aimed to present herself as an anti-diva, with her wrinkle-furrowed face and white hair, proposing a fascinating artistic creation based on the ‘mother roles’ that she had created for the theatre. This paper explores new elements concerning the position of Duse as an actress-manager for the Italian film industry in the 1910s. It is focused on her strategy of reiterating her stage success in playing a mother. On film, she did not want to be an instrument used for commercial purposes, and she did not want to create a common popular diva film. With Cenere, Duse's capability as an actress-manager can be seen in her creation of this non-conventional, poetic role for the silent film industry in wartime Italy.

Abstract Introduction: Lenalidomide is effective in the treatment of multiple myeloma (MM). The MM-009 and MM-010 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase III trials showed that lenalidomide in combination with dexamethasone induced significantly higher overall response (OR), and longer median time-to-progression (TTP) than dexamethasone alone in patients with relapsed or refractory MM (Weber et al, NEJM 2007; Dimopoulos et al, NEJM 2007). Previously identified predictors of high-risk disease and poor prognosis in MM include age (≥ 65 vs. < 65 years), Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status (ECOG score ≥ 1 vs. 0), IgA status (IgA MM vs. non-IgA MM), disease stage (Durie-Salmon stage III vs. I–II), and β2-microglobulin level (> 2.5 mg/L vs. ≤ 2.5 mg/L). Here, we compared safety and efficacy outcomes of lenalidomide plus dexamethasone in patients with or without these high-risk factors. Methods: Patients with or without high-risk factors, pooled from MM-009 and MM-010, were randomized to receive lenalidomide (25 mg/day on days 1–21 of each 28-day cycle) plus dexamethasone (40 mg/day on days 1–4, 9–12, and 17–20 of each 28-day cycle for 4 cycles, with 40 mg/day on days 1–4 only from cycle 5 onwards). OR and TTP were based on data obtained before unblinding (June 2005 [MM-009] and August 2005 [MM-010]). Results: OR rate and median TTP were comparable between low- and high-risk patients based on age, ECOG score, IgA status, and Durie-Salmon disease stage. Patients with β2-microglobulin ≤ 2.5 mg/L had significantly better OR and TTP than those with β2-microglobulin >2.5 mg/L (Table). Grade 3 or 4 adverse events for the different subgroups were similar to those observed for the overall study population. Most grade 3 or 4 adverse events were similar between high-risk and low-risk groups. Significant differences in grade 3 or 4 adverse events were neutropenia for patients with Durie-Salmon stage III vs. I–II (40% vs. 28%, p=0.03), thrombocytopenia for ≥ 65 years vs. < 65 years (17% vs. 9%, p=0.03) and those with β2-microglobulin ≤ 2.5 mg/L vs. >2.5 mg/L (16% vs. 7%, p=0.03), and anemia for those with β2-microglobulin ≤ 2.5 mg/L vs. >2.5 mg/L (15% vs. 1%, p=0.0001). Grade 3 or 4 peripheral neuropathy was uncommon (≤2%) for all subgroups and not significantly different between those with high- and those with low-risk features. Conclusion: High OR rates, long TTP and manageable adverse events were observed with lenalidomide plus dexamethasone for patients with high-risk features. Advanced age, high ECOG score, presence of IgA, and advanced Durie-Salmon stage did not affect efficacy outcomes. Patients with high β2-microglobulin levels did have lower efficacy and more adverse events. Four hundred ten previously untreated multiple myeloma patients entered onto two consecutive Grupo Argentino de Tratamiento de la Leucemia Aguda (GATLA) protocols were analyzed to identify significant prognostic factors influencing survival. The univariate analysis selected the following variables: performance status, renal function, percentage of bone marrow plasma cells at diagnosis, hemoglobin, and age. A multivariate analysis showed that performance status, renal function, percentage of bone marrow plasma cells, hemoglobin, and age were the best predictive variables for survival. A score was assigned to each patient according to these variables, which led to their classification in three groups: good, intermediate, and poor risk, with a probability of survival of 26% and 10% at 96 months, and 5% at 56 months, and median survival of 60, 37, and 14 months, respectively (P = .0000). In our patient population, this model proved to be superior to the Durie-Salmon staging system in defining prognostic risk groups, and separating patients with significantly different risks within each Durie-Salmon stage.

O uso de substâncias psicoativas por jovens em contexto académico de nível superior permanece uma questão atual e inquietante para a saúde da comunidade. Implícitos a estas problemáticas encontram-se os efeitos nocivos diretos envolvidos, bem como as alterações associadas aos seus estilos de vida. Neste contexto, foi descrito no estudo: “Consumo de sustancias psicoactivas en jóvenes universitarios ... ¿Qué realidad?” como um dos objetivos- Identificar os hábitos de consumo de substâncias psicoativas dos estudantes do Instituto Politécnico de Bragança. Para tal realizou-se um estudo quantitativo, descritivo, correlacional e transversal. Utilizou-se uma amostra (não probabilística) de 392 alunos. Para determinar a existência de uso de substâncias, foi utilizado o DUSI-R (Drug Use Screening Inventory-Revised) (Tarter, 1990). Versão traduzida e adaptada por Rodrigues & Cardoso em 2013. Utilização do SPSS para tratamento dos dados por meio de estatística descritiva e inferencial com nível de significância de 95%. Como resultados temos que, nas dimensões uso de sustâncias e estrutura familiar, existe uma maioria de respondentes com um nível de intensidade considerado normal. Para as restantes dimensões do DUSI-R, a maioria dos respondentes apresenta níveis de intensidade problemáticos. As correlações entre as dimensões da DUSI-R eram negligenciáveis a moderadas. Verifica-se diferença estatisticamente significativa entre os respondentes de acordo com o sexo para as dimensões: uso de substâncias; padrão de comportamento; estrutura familiar; desempenho académico; e, relação com os pares. Nas dimensões uso de substâncias e competências sociais foram detetadas diferenças estatisticamente significativas entre os respondentes de acordo com o já terem iniciado ou não a atividade sexual. Verifica-se diferença estatisticamente significativa entre os respondentes que residem ou não em locais movimentados, para a dimensão estrutura familiar e, por último, existem diferenças estatisticamente significativas entre os respondentes de acordo com se considera ou não pertinente mais ações de sensibilização para as dimensões: uso de substâncias; padrão de comportamento; perturbação mental; estrutura familiar; desempenho académico; e, relação com os pares. Concluindo-se que no que trata o uso de substâncias, de acordo com DUSI-R, em termos globais, os valores médios são superiores a 15, com exceção da dimensão Estrutura Familiar, valor considerado como ponto de corte para o qual os hábitos são considerados problemáticos.

AbstractPost-bog soils developed from limnic calcareous sediments are closely related to a young-glacial landscape and postglacial lakes in Northern Poland. The studies conducted in 2010–2012 on post-bog soils near lake Dubie (Równina Drawska, NW Poland), partially used as an arable land. The goal of research was to characterise some chemical and physical properties of post-bog soils developed from carbonate deposits near lake Dubie. The soils of the analysed area developed from lacustrine chalk and calcareous gyttja belong to black earth and mucky soils. Organic matter content in surface horizons ranged from 5.0 to 14.2%, content of CaCO3from 27.2 to 55.2%, the highest carbonate content was found in arable soil. The soils of the study area were characterised by a narrow C/N ratio, low level of total form of P and a high content of Ca. Specific density of surface horizons was in the range 2.49 to 2.58 Mg · m−3, bulk density from 0.445 to 1.212 Mg · m−3. High porosity was also found in the examined formations, from 0.826 in surface horizons and 0.700 m3· m−3in limnic deposits.

Resumo Objetivou-se caracterizar uma amostra de adolescentes em conflito com a lei em relação ao consumo de substâncias e possíveis problemas associados. Participaram 120 adolescentes do sexo masculino, entre 13 e 18 anos, custodiados na Unidade de Atendimento Inicial da Fundação CASA, que responderam ao Drug Use Screening Inventory - Revised (DUSI-R). Análises descritivas indicaram que a maioria dos adolescentes teria feito uso de maconha (84%) e álcool (54%). Em relação ao padrão de consumo, 52% foram categorizados em uso abusivo ou de provável dependência. Quanto aos problemas associados ao consumo, os participantes possuem densidade média superior aos da população normativa nos dez domínios investigados pelo DUSI-R, com destaque aos Transtornos (M = 42), Escola (M = 50) e Pares (M = 55). Vale observar que 37% da amostra se declararam abstêmios, e que os desvios das densidades de problemas sugerem alta heterogeneidade nos níveis de necessidades/dificuldades, o que implica ultrapassar discursos que propalam a uniformidade dessa população.
