Abstract This study investigated the effect of dust deposition on the fin surfaces of a rectangular finned heat sink for natural convection. Therefore, experimental analysis was carried out on two cases, i.e., under fine dust and fiber dust conditions. The experiment was conducted inside a closed duct on the heat sink consisting of 17 fins. After analyzing the data and variation of temperature values at various positions of the fin surfaces, it was observed that the fine dust accumulation had a negligible effect on the thermal performance. However, fiber dust accumulation had a significant eff

Solar photovoltaic (PV) is playing a major role in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) smart grid infrastructure. However, one of the challenges facing PV-based energy systems is the dust accumulation on solar panels. Dust accumulation on solar panels results in a high degradation in the output power. The UAE has low intensity rainfall and wind velocity; therefore solar panels must be cleaned manually or using automated cleaning methods. Estimating dust accumulation on solar panels will increase the output power and reduce maintenance costs by initiating cleaning actions only when required. In this

Dust accumulation on Photovoltaic (PV) panels represents a major challenge for the operation of panels. There are several passive dust mitigation techniques, such as using a dust shield whose performance has been enhanced by integrating it with an air nozzle. The air exiting the nozzle acts as an air barrier that obstructs the approach of dust particles to the panel’s surface. The objective of this study is to minimize dust accumulation over PV panels by adding slits within the dust shield. The function of the slit is to induce air drafts that can sweep dust away from the surface of the PV pan
