Fedorovich, Tat'yana, Natal'ya Kubrak, S. K. Tevs, and A. V. Dmitrenko. Organization and management of a private fleet of freight cars: an economic approach. INFRA-M Academic Publishing LLC., 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.12737/1860935.

Full text
Abstract:
The monograph discusses theoretical and practical issues related to the completion of the implementation of the introduction of new forms of ownership in the formation of the railway holding JSC "Russian Railways". The organizational and economic results of the structural reform of railway transport in Russia are analyzed in comparison with the experience of modern reform of foreign railway transport. The variants of transformation of the modern cargo transportation management system in the new economic conditions are proposed.
The main results of the study of modern economic and organizational conditions of cargo transportation, taking into account the specifics of working with a private car fleet, are presented. Based on a large-scale analysis of the loading dynamics of the main directions of the Russian Railways network and the resulting unevenness of operational work, new approaches are proposed for the formation of the market of freight operators of rolling stock.
An economic assessment of the implementation of scenario options for the introduction of technological outsourcing is given on the example of JSC "Federal Freight Company" with the justification of a methodological approach for the formation of a consolidated fleet of wagons based
on the algorithm of the cost method for calculating the throughput during the consolidation of a fleet of freight wagons.
For practitioners and researchers involved in cargo transportation management, forecasting and formation of private fleets of freight cars. It will be useful for graduate students, undergraduates and students of economic faculties of railway universities when studying courses in the economics of railway transport and the cost of freight transportation.

Han, Shihui. A culture–behavior–brain-loop model of human development. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/acprof:oso/9780198743194.003.0008.

Full text
Abstract:
Chapter 8 introduces a culture–behavior–brain (CBB)-loop model of human development based on cultural neuroscience findings, and proposes a new framework for understanding human development regarding both human phylogeny and lifespan ontogeny. This model posits that culture shapes the brain by contextualizing behavior, and the brain fits and modifies culture via behavioral influences. Genes provide a fundamental basis for and interact with the CBB loop at both individual and population levels. The CBB-loop model advances our understanding of the dynamic relationships between culture, behavior, and the brain. Future brain changes owing to cultural influences are discussed based on the CBB-loop model.

Limebeer, D. J. N., and Matteo Massaro. Dynamics and Optimal Control of Road Vehicles. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198825715.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
The broad aim of this book is to provide a comprehensive coverage of the modelling and optimal control of both two‐ and four‐wheeled road vehicles. The first focus of this book is a review of classical mechanics and its use in building vehicle and tyre dynamic models. The second is nonlinear optimal control, which is used to solve a range of minimum‐time, minimum‐fuel, and track curvature reconstruction problems. As is known classically, all thismaterial is bound together by the calculus of variations and stationary principles. The treatment of this material is supplemented with a large number of examples that highlight obscurities and subtleties in the theory. A particular strength of the book is its unified treatment of tyre, car, and motorcycle dynamics and the application of nonlinear optimal control to vehicle‐related problems within a single text. These topics are usually treated independently, and can only be found in disparate texts and journal articles. It is our contention that presentday vehicle dynamicists should be familiar with all of these topic areas. The aim in writing this book is to provide a comprehensive and yet accessible text that emphasizes particularly the theoretical aspects of vehicular modelling and control.

Morrison, William. The Savvy Negotiator. Greenwood Publishing Group, Inc., 2005. http://dx.doi.org/10.5040/9798216010982.

Full text
Abstract:
Life is a series of negotiations—from who will make the morning coffee to the landing of a multi-million-dollar contract. Each successful negotiation is a victory, but how is success measured? And after a negotiation is completed, what are the implications for the future? In The Savvy Negotiator, William Morrison addresses these questions in the context of two simple, but profound, ideas: (1) We negotiate to set the ground rules for a future relationship; (2) We negotiate to satisfy our needs. In other words, a negotiation is not simply a transaction, but an opportunity to develop a dynamic relationship; whatever the outcome, there will be future effects. If a negotiation is not designed to provide some benefit to the negotiator, there is no reason to engage. Morrison develops these themes against the backdrop of a general evolution in negotiation theory and practice—from an antagonistic WIN/LOSE approach to the more collaborative WIN/WIN approach. Through dozens of engaging examples, from business and other areas (such as home and car buying), he demonstrates the eight key concepts that underlie any negotiation, and offers many practical strategies for conducting successful and satisfying negotiations in virtually any situation. Along the way, he highlights such timely issues as the role of ethics in negotiation and the impact of the Internet on communication dynamics.

Schmidgen, Henning. Horn, or The Counterside of Media. Translated by Nils F. Schott. Duke University Press, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.1215/9781478022343.

Full text
Abstract:
We regularly touch and handle media devices. At the same time, media devices such as body scanners, car seat pressure sensors, and smart phones scan and touch us. In Horn, Henning Schmidgen reflects on the bidirectional nature of touch and the ways in which surfaces constitute a site of mediation between interior and exterior. Schmidgen uses the concept of horn—whether manifested as a rhinoceros horn or a musical instrument—to stand for both natural substances and artificial objects as a space of tactility. He enters into creative dialogue with artists, scientists, and philosophers, ranging from Salvador Dalí, William Kentridge, and Rebecca Horn to Sigmund Freud, Walter Benjamin, and Marshall McLuhan, who plumb the complex interplay between tactility and technological and biological surfaces. Whether analyzing how Dalí conceived of images as tactile entities during his “rhinoceros phase” or examining the problem of tactility in Thomas Pynchon’s The Crying of Lot 49, Schmidgen reconfigures understandings of the dynamic phenomena of touch in media.

Bach, Bo, ed. ICD-11 Personality Disorders. Oxford University PressOxford, 2025. https://doi.org/10.1093/9780191964343.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract ICD-11 Personality Disorders: Assessment and Treatment bring together a fundamentally new framework of personality dysfunction that also applies to mental health issues in a broader sense. In the present volume, international experts provide a helpful overview of the diagnostic framework and demonstrate how it may be utilized in clinical practice, including assessment, treatment planning, psychoeducation, and a range of evidence-based psychotherapy approaches: dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mentalization-based therapy (MBT), transference-focused therapy (TFP), cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), nidotherapy, intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy (ISTDP), metacognitive interpersonal therapy (MIT), good psychiatric management (GPM), and schema therapy. The book also covers topics such as identity and agency, grandiosity, social cognition, emotion regulation, dissociation, psychotic-like features, psychopathy, and self-harm. The utility for adolescents, older people, co-occurring addiction, and forensic settings is also elucidated, along with implications for neurosciences, cross-cultural issues, health policy, and lived experience and recovery.

Sherman, Sara L., and Morton Sherman. Resonant Minds. The Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group, Inc., 2025. https://doi.org/10.5040/9798881844967.

Full text
Abstract:
Resonant Minds: The Transformative Power of Music, One Note at a Time invites readers to reimagine music as a dynamic, interactive force that reshapes how we live, learn, and connect. By blending personal stories—recalling childhood car rides where “Ode to Joy” was joyfully reinvented with animal noises and made-up words—with cutting-edge research and practical insights, the father/daughter writing team, Sara Leila Sherman and Mort Sherman, PhD, help us understand how to use music intentionally. Featuring a distinct approach, this book includes interactive QR codes that bring the music to life. This immersive journey reveals how integrating mindful listening action—whether breathing with Bach or shaking it off with Taylor Swift—can reduce stress, boost creativity, and strengthen communities. With a foreword by Goldie Hawn and praise from thought leaders like Doris Kearns Goodwin and Bena Kallick, Resonant Minds is a call to transform our everyday musical experiences into a source of joyful, life-changing action, one note at a time.

Björk, Tomas. Arbitrage Theory in Continuous Time. Oxford University Press, 2019. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198851615.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
The fourth edition of this textbook on pricing and hedging of financial derivatives, now also including dynamic equilibrium theory, continues to combine sound mathematical principles with economic applications. Concentrating on the probabilistic theory of continuous time arbitrage pricing of financial derivatives, including stochastic optimal control theory and optimal stopping theory, the book is designed for graduate students in economics and mathematics, and combines the necessary mathematical background with a solid economic focus. It includes a solved example for every new technique presented, contains numerous exercises, and suggests further reading in each chapter. All concepts and ideas are discussed, not only from a mathematics point of view, but the mathematical theory is also always supplemented with lots of intuitive economic arguments. In the substantially extended fourth edition Tomas Björk has added completely new chapters on incomplete markets, treating such topics as the Esscher transform, the minimal martingale measure, f-divergences, optimal investment theory for incomplete markets, and good deal bounds. There is also an entirely new part of the book presenting dynamic equilibrium theory. This includes several chapters on unit net supply endowments models, and the Cox–Ingersoll–Ross equilibrium factor model (including the CIR equilibrium interest rate model). Providing two full treatments of arbitrage theory—the classical delta hedging approach and the modern martingale approach—the book is written in such a way that these approaches can be studied independently of each other, thus providing the less mathematically oriented reader with a self-contained introduction to arbitrage theory and equilibrium theory, while at the same time allowing the more advanced student to see the full theory in action.
