Abstract:
The deformation of a weakly conducting, ‘leaky dielectric’, drop in a density matched, immiscible weakly conducting medium under a uniform direct current (DC) electric field is quantified computationally. We exclusively consider prolate drops, for which the drop elongates in the direction of the applied field. Furthermore, for the majority of this study, we assume the drop and medium to have equal viscosities. Using axisymmetric boundary integral computations, we delineate drop deformation and breakup regimes in the $Ca_{E}-Re_{E}$ parameter space, where $Ca_{E}$ is the electric capillary number (ratio of the electric to capillary stresses); and $Re_{E}$ is the electric Reynolds number (ratio of charge relaxation to flow time scales), which characterizes the strength of surface charge convection along the interface. For so-called ‘prolate A’ drops, where the surface charge is convected towards the ‘poles’ of the drop, we demonstrate that increasing $Re_{E}$ reduces the critical capillary number for breakup. Moreover, surface charge convection is the cause of an abrupt transition in the breakup mode of a drop from end pinching, where the drop elongates and develops bulbs at its ends that eventually detach, to a breakup mode characterized by the formation of conical ends. On the contrary, the deformation of ‘prolate B’ drops, where the surface charge is convected away from the poles, is essentially unaffected by the magnitude of $Re_{E}$.

Abstract:
As customer demand for green products increases in the digital economic era, this study analyses the green innovation of the e-tailer and supplier in drop shipping models. Moreover, drop shipping e-tailers and suppliers with a drop shipping option need to make choices regarding whether to provide green or normal products to the market. When a supplier with a drop shipping option produces green products, more fees may be invested in the production of green products than on normal products. The drop shipping e-tailers and suppliers with a drop shipping option can also choose to sell normal products at a low cost, as before. This study designs four models of drop shipping e-tailers and suppliers with a drop shipping option under different choices, analyzes their operational process in drop shipping models, and investigates five theorems. The optimal pricing decisions and green degree of drop shipping e-tailers and suppliers with a drop shipping option were evaluated in this study. The impacts of the green innovation factor, green elasticity coefficient, manufacturing and distribution costs on the drop shipping e-tailers and suppliers with a drop shipping option, and the effect of other environmental parameters on the green degree of green products are also analyzed through computer simulation. The findings of the simulation analysis provide valuable guidance for e-tailers and suppliers with green innovation in drop shipping models and offer important academic and practical implications for e-commerce and the digital economy.

Abstract:
Drop shipping represents a delivery business model based on e-commerce logistics, which is very relevant in the global pandemic crisis. In this model, buyers order products and services directly from the manufacturer over the Internet through the intermediary of a drop shipper who ensures the easiest and fastest delivery. Drop shipper is a type of e-commerce entrepreneur that offers goods using online logistics infrastructure to ensure direct physical delivery from the manufacturer to the retailer or customer. This includes drop shipping as a business model to Industry 4.0 (i.e. the digital economy). This paper elaborates how a particular e-commerce model affects the development and improvement of global supply chains. Aim of this paper is to research how entrepreneur can lower its costs along drop shipping supply chain by managing inventory ratios or cost of stock. This enables drop shipping to greatly facilitate market access for cash-strapped entrepreneurs. We also conducted a simulation of optimized drop shipping process to show that there is a constant adaptability for entrepreneurs using drop shipping, especially among small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The timeliness of drop shipping is that it has facilitated as a global delivery solution in relation to the coronavirus disease pandemic (COVID-19). Moreover, drop shipping is based on a Activity-Based Costing (ABC model) whose quantitative efficiency has been proven by scientific analysis and research results. Finally, the legal aspects of drop shipping are given importance in the situation of COVID-19 which had a crucial impact on international trade in 2020, especially in predicting short-term trade trends. Due to this within this paper we also examined the effects of the ˝coronavirus˝ on global e-commerce. Global drop shipping data ensures qualitative predictions considering pandemic environment, social distancing issues and internet trade curves which are more than useful in today’s changing business conditions.

Abstract:
In this theoretical report we explore the deformation and stability of a power-law non-Newtonian slender drop embedded in a Newtonian liquid undergoing a nonlinear extensional creeping flow. The dimensionless parameters describing this problem are: the capillary number $(Ca\gg 1)$, the viscosity ratio $(\unicode[STIX]{x1D706}\ll 1)$, the power-law index $(n)$ and the nonlinear intensity of the flow $(|E|\ll 1)$. Asymptotic analytical solutions were obtained near the centre and close to the end of the drop suggesting that only Newtonian and shear thinning drops $(n\leqslant 1)$ with pointed ends are possible. We described the shape of the drop as a series expansion about the centre of the drop, and performed a stability analysis in order to distinguish between stable and unstable stationary states and to establish the breakup point. Our findings suggest: (i) shear thinning drops are less elongated than Newtonian drops, (ii) as non-Newtonian effects increase or as $n$ decreases, breakup becomes more difficult, and (iii) as the flow becomes more nonlinear, breakup is facilitated.

Abstract:
Abstract Joint size and fall velocity distributions of raindrops were measured with a Particle Size and Velocity (PARSIVEL) precipitation particle disdrometer in a field experiment conducted during July and August 2007 at a semiarid continental site located in Guyuan, Ningxia Province, China (36°N, 106°16′E). Data from both stratiform and convective clouds are analyzed. Comparison of the observed raindrop size distributions shows that the increase of convective rain rates arises from the increases of both drop concentration and drop diameter while the increase of the rain rate in the stratiform clouds is mainly due to the increase of median and large drop concentration. Another striking contrast between the stratiform and convective rains is that the size distributions from the stratiform (convective) rains tend to narrow (broaden) with increasing rain rates. Statistical analysis of the distribution pattern shows that the observed size distributions from both rain types can be well described by the gamma distribution. Examination of the raindrop fall velocity reveals that the difference in air density leads to a systematic change in the drop fall velocity while organized air motions (updrafts and downdrafts), turbulence, drop breakup, and coalescence likely cause the large spread of drop fall velocity, along with additional systematic deviation from terminal velocity at certain raindrop diameters. Small (large) drops tend to have superterminal (subterminal) velocities statistically, with the positive deviation from the terminal velocity of small drops being much larger than the negative deviation of large drops.

Abstract:
The motion and particularly the detachment mechanism of sessile drops in an air-shear-flow is highly relevant for many technical applications. For instance, water drops in fuel cells can block the oxygen transport and thus lower the overall efficiency. Hence, a deeper understanding of the drop detachment mechanism could facilitate efficiency optimisations. Nonetheless, until now only simplified models exist for predicting the critical velocity that do not take into account the mutual interaction of the air and the liquid via the non-rigid interface. One reason for this is the lack of knowledge of the flow inside the oscillating drop. In this contribution, we present the first three-dimensional flow measurements in oscillating sessile drops in shear flow. Time-averaged flow measurements were conducted for different Reynolds numbers. Furthermore, the phase-averaged flow field was measured. The measurements were conducted with a novel 3D-PTV method, which offers scanless three-dimensional flow measurements with a single optical access for a measurement volume that covers about 90 % of the drop volume. Moreover, we present a novel technique for conducting flow measurements through fluctuating gas-liquid interfaces based on adaptive optics. We demonstrate that this technique enables the correction of a systematic error corresponding to the magnitude of the first drop eigenfrequency, which seems to play an important role in the detachment mechanism of drops. The results give new insights about the fluid mechanics of sessile drops and thus may help in the optimisation of drop removal in e. g. fuel cells.

Abstract:
The quality of electrohydrodynamic jet (e-jet) printing is crucially influenced by the satellite drop formed when the primary drop detaches from the meniscus. If the satellite drop falls onto the substrate, the patterns on the substrate will be contaminated. The electric charge carried by the satellite drop leads to more complex satellite/meniscus interaction than that in traditional inkjet printing. Here, we numerically study the formation and flight behavior of the charged satellite drop. This paper discovered that the charge relaxation time (CRT) of the liquid determines the electric repulsion force between the satellite drop and meniscus. The satellite drop will merge with the meniscus at long CRT, and fail to merge and deteriorate the printing quality at short CRT. The simulations are adopted to discover the mechanism of generation and flight behavior of charged satellite drops. The results show that the critical CRT decreases with the dielectric constant of the liquid and the supplied flow rate. Namely, for small dielectric constant and fixed CRT, the satellite drop is less likely to merge with the meniscus, and for high flow rate, the satellite drop is prone to merge with the meniscus due to the delay of necking thread breakup. These results will help to choose appropriate parameters to avoid the satellite drop from falling onto the substrate.

Abstract:
Subject and Purpose. Th e development of radar methods for measuring liquid-drop precipitation characteristics is of great importance for studying physical processes in the atmosphere and for lots of applied problems to be solved. At the same time, an experimental research of these methods in situ is essential to determine their frames and scope and estimate retrieval errors of the rain parameters. The purpose of the work is to evaluate eff ectiveness of the previously proposed method that is based on the parametrization of the distribution function of drops by size, uses averaged touch-probing data of the three-parameter gamma distribution of the parameters versus the rain intensity, and employs the double-frequency method of precipitation remote sensing. For its validation, the rain intensity results obtained by the radar sensing are compared with the data taken from the ground raingauge. Methods and Methodology. Th e measurement results gained by the proposed method are compared with the measurement results obtained by the standard technique. Results. An experimental study using the previously developed algorithm and with a refi ned double-frequency weather radar MRL-1 has been given to the double-frequency sensing of liquid-drop precipitation. Th e obtained results show that the proposed data processing algorithm for double-frequency sensing of liquid-drop precipitation is good at the rain intensity retrieval and makes it possible to estimate liquid precipitation amounts over long periods of time. Conclusion. Th e rain intensity measured with the use of meteo radar almost completely coincides, both qualitatively and quantitatively, with the data from the ground raingauge. Th e algorithm proposed by the authors for processing double-frequency radar sensing data on liquid-drop precipitation retrieves the rain intensity and, also, evaluates liquid-drop precipitation amounts.

Abstract:
Nonlinear axisymmetric shape oscillations of a Newtonian drop in a vacuum are investigated theoretically, for fundamental interest and for their relevance in transport processes across the drop surface. The weakly nonlinear analysis is carried out for, but not limited to, the modes of initial drop deformation up to m = 4. The drop Ohnesorge number covers the range between 0.01 and 1. The weakly nonlinear approach, which is carried to third order, accounts for the coupling of different oscillation modes. With increasing surface deformation, the oscillations develop an asymmetry of the times during one period the drop spends in different states of deformation, a frequency decrease below the linear value, and quasi-periodicity of the motion. In contrast to the inviscid case [D. Zrnić and G. Brenn, “Weakly nonlinear shape oscillations of inviscid drops,” J. Fluid Mech. 923, A9 (2021)], the present analysis reveals the frequency decrease and the quasi-periodicity already in the second-order approximation. The results are positively validated against relevant literature. The theory quantifies the effects of viscosity, measured by the drop Ohnesorge number, dampening the nonlinear behavior and enhancing the coupling of different oscillation modes [E. Becker et al., “Nonlinear dynamics of viscous droplets,” J. Fluid Mech. 258, 191 (1994)]. The present theory reveals the quasi-periodicity of nonlinear viscous drop shape oscillations at strong deformation. The resultant drop motion, starting from a higher-order mode of initial deformation, for which the drop exhibits aperiodic linear behavior, may turn into damped oscillatory with ongoing time due to the coupling to lower-order modes.

This paper presents the two-phase condensation heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of R-513A as an alternative refrigerant to R-134a in a 9.52-mm OD horizontal microfin copper tube. The test facility had a straight, horizontal test section with an active length of 2.0 m and was cooled by cold water circulated in a surrounding annular space. The annular-side heat transfer coefficients were obtained using the Wilson plot method. The average heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop data are presented at the condensation temperature of 35 °C in the range of 100–440 kg·m−2·s−1 mass flux. The test data of R-513A are compared with those of R-134a, R-1234yf, and R-1234ze(E). The average condensation heat transfer coefficients of the R-513A and R-1234ze(E) refrigerants were similar to R-134a at the lower mass flux (100~150 kg·m−2·s−1), while they were up to 10% higher than R-134a as the mass flux increased. The pressure drop of R-513A was similar to R-1234yf and 10% lower than that of R-134a at the higher mass flux. The R-1234ze(E) pressure drops were 20 % higher compared to those of R-134a at the higher mass flux.

Energy control (i. e. pressure control) has an obvious effect on development effect in the depletion of gas condensate reservoir. Phase change behavior and characteristics of the relative pemeability in gas condensate reservoirs were displayed in this paper, then pressure and condensate distribution were showed through reservoir simulation. Finally, the influence of the pressure drop on condensate distribution and condensate oil production in gas condensate reservoirs with different permeabilities was studied. Results show that: First, in high / moderate permeability gas condensate reservoirs, the pressure and the condensate blocking will extend to further reservoir, while the pressure and condensate just appear in the vicinity of wellbore in low permeability gas condensate reservoirs. Second, the influence of pressure drop on condensate distribution in high permeability gas condensate reservoirs is obvious, the condensate blocking extends with the increasing of the pressure drop, and condensate extent can be controlled by optimizing a rational pressure drop, while the influence is inconspicuous in low permeability gas condensate reservoirs. Third, the influence of pressure drop on condensate oil production in high / moderate permeability gas condensate reservoirs is conspicuous, a rational pressure drop exists, while the influence is indistinct in low permeability or tight gas condensate reservoirs, before the retrograde condensation, a low pressure drop should be adopted in a long term until the bottom hole flowing pressure drops below the dew point pressure, when the condensate blocking forms, well stimulation is advised before developing by pressure control.

Abstract:

In the Heliand, type E (/ / × /) shows a graded preference for the b-verse according to the composition of its first three positions. In Beowulf, by contrast, the same metrical type occurs with consistent preference for the b-verse. This paper claims that the gradation of type E unique to the Heliand arose as a consequence of the reorganization of the first drop of type A, whereby the traditional binary categorization of the normal and heavy drops was replaced by a single prototype-based graded category, as demonstrated in Suzuki 2000.

Abstract. To relate observed rainfall rates (R) to the kinetic energy flux (E) that affects soil erosion it is necessary to develop relationships between the two. This paper explores theoretical E–R relationships based on gamma distributions of drop size. The relationship is poorly defined unless assumptions are made about changes in the shape of the drop-size distribution (DSD) with rainfall rate. The study suggests that the assumption of an exponential DSD leads to overestimation of kinetic energy flux. Further, incorporation of a horizontal component of kinetic energy allows for a clearer relationship between kinetic energy and rainfall intensity to be defined, but a question remains regarding the most appropriate definition of the horizontal component of drop velocity.

The attendance of Accident & Emergency (A&E) departments in Hong Kong increased from 1.1 million in 1990 to 2.3 million in 2000. The statistics of Hospital Authority showed that about 75% of the attendance belonged to the semi-urgent or non-urgent cases. It is expected that the A&E attendance will drop after implementation of A&E charges. A cross-sectional study was done using the database of a typical medium size A&E department in Hong Kong to analyse this impact. The result of statistical analysis showed that there would be about 30% drop in A&E attendance. Other factors, however could affect the results and these were discussed. After adjustment, it was concluded that there would be about 20% drop in attendance after the implementation of A&E charges.

Simulated impact damage testing was investigated by fractal image analysis using response surface methodology (RSM) with a central composite design (CCF) on quality of ‘Glom Sali’ guava for drop heights (0.2, 0.4, and 0.6 m), number of drops (1, 3, and 5) and storage temperature conditions (10, 20, and 30 °C). After 48 h, impacted fruit were determined and analyzed for bruise area (BA), bruise volume (BV), browning index (BI), total color difference (∆E), image analysis for bruise area (BAI), and fractal dimension (FD) at the bruising region on peeled guava. Results showed that the correlation coefficient (r = −0.6055) between ∆E and FD value was higher than ∆E and either BA (r = 0.3132) or BV (r = 0.2095). The FD variable was determined as a better indicator than conventional measurement (BA or BV) for pulp browning and impact bruising susceptibility. The FD variable also exhibited highest R2adj value (81.69%) among the other five variables, as the highest precision model with high determination coefficient value (R2adj) (>0.8) for impact bruising prediction. Recommended condition of the FD variable to minimize impact bruising was drop height of 0.53 m for five drops under storage at 30 °C. FD variable assessed by image analysis was shown to be a highly capable measurement to determine impact bruising susceptibility in guava fruit.

Abstract:
The problem of a stationary liquid toroidal drop freely suspended in another fluid and subjected to an electric field uniform at infinity is addressed analytically. Taylor’s discriminating function implies that, when the phases have equal viscosities and are assumed to be slightly conducting (leaky dielectrics), a spherical drop is stationary when Q =(2 R 2 +3 R +2)/(7 R 2 ), where R and Q are ratios of the phases’ electric conductivities and dielectric constants, respectively. This condition holds for any electric capillary number, Ca E , that defines the ratio of electric stress to surface tension. Pairam and Fernández-Nieves showed experimentally that, in the absence of external forces (Ca E =0), a toroidal drop shrinks towards its centre, and, consequently, the drop can be stationary only for some Ca E >0. This work finds Q and Ca E such that, under the presence of an electric field and with equal viscosities of the phases, a toroidal drop having major radius ρ and volume 4 π /3 is qualitatively stationary—the normal velocity of the drop’s interface is minute and the interface coincides visually with a streamline. The found Q and Ca E depend on R and ρ , and for large ρ , e.g. ρ ≥3, they have simple approximations: Q ∼( R 2 + R +1)/(3 R 2 ) and Ca E ∼ 3 3 π ρ / 2 ( 6 ln ⁡ ρ + 2 ln ⁡ [ 96 π ] − 9 ) / ( 12 ln ⁡ ρ + 4 ln ⁡ [ 96 π ] − 17 ) ( R + 1 ) 2 / ( R − 1 ) 2 .

Abstract:
In the Leidenfrost effect, a thin layer of evaporated vapour forms between a liquid and a hot solid. The complex interactions between the solid, liquid and vapour phases can lead to rich dynamics even in a single Leidenfrost drop. Here we investigate the self-organized oscillations of Leidenfrost drops that are excited by a constant flow of evaporated vapour beneath the drop. We show that for small Leidenfrost drops, the frequency of a recently reported ‘breathing mode’ (Caswell, Phys. Rev. E, vol. 90, 2014, 013014) can be explained by a simple balance of gravitational and surface tension forces. For large Leidenfrost drops, azimuthal star-shaped oscillations are observed. Our previous work showed how the coupling between the rapid evaporated vapour flow and the vapour–liquid interface excites the star-shaped oscillations (Ma et al., Phys. Rev. Fluids, vol. 2, 2017, 031602). In our experiments, star-shaped oscillation modes of $n=2{-}13$ are observed in different liquids, and the number of observed modes depends sensitively on the viscosity of the liquid. Here we expand on this work by directly comparing the oscillations with theoretical predictions, as well as show how the oscillations are initiated by a parametric forcing mechanism through pressure oscillations in the vapour layer. The pressure oscillations are driven by the capillary waves of a characteristic wavelength beneath the drop. These capillary waves can be generated by a large shear stress at the liquid–vapour interface due to the rapid flow of evaporated vapour. We also explore potential effects of thermal convection in the liquid. Although the measured Rayleigh number is significantly larger than the critical Rayleigh number, the frequency (wavelength) of the oscillations depends only on the capillary length of the liquid, and is independent of the drop radius and substrate temperature. Thus convection seems to play a minor role in Leidenfrost drop oscillations, which are mostly hydrodynamic in origin.

Abstract:
The deformation of a slender drop in a nonlinear axisymmetric extensional and creeping flow has been theoretically studied. This problem, which was first suggested by Sherwood (J. Fluid Mech., vol. 144, 1984, pp. 281–295), is being revisited, and new results are presented. The problem is governed by three dimensionless parameters: the capillary number ($\mathit{Ca}\gg 1$), the viscosity ratio ($\unicode[STIX]{x1D706}\ll 1$), and the nonlinear intensity of the flow ($E\ll 1$). Contrary to linear extensional flow ($E=0$), where the local radius of the drop decreases monotonically (in the positive $z$ direction), in a nonlinear extensional flow ($E\neq 0$), two possible steady shapes exist: steady shapes (stable or unstable) with the local radius decreasing monotonically, and steady shapes (unstable) where the local radius of the drop has a local maximum, besides the one at the centre of the drop. Similar to linear extensional flow, the addition of nonlinear extensional effects does not change the end shape of the steady drop, which has pointed ends. A stability analysis has been done to distinguish between stable and unstable steady shapes and to determine the breakup point. Time-dependent studies reveal three types of breakup mechanism: a centre pinching mode, indefinite elongation, and a mechanism that remind us of tip-streaming, where a cusp is developed at the end of the drop.

As language undergoing language change, Brazilian Portuguese presents characteristics of both pro-drop and non-pro drop systems. This study investigates the acquisition of two properties assumed to be related to the null subject parameter—clitic-climbing and the that-t effect—by adult learners of Brazilian Portuguese who speak a pro-drop language (Spanish) (n = 11) and a non pro-drop language (English) (n =19) as either L1 or L2. Results of an acceptability judgment task showed that the non-native speakers overall converged on the grammars of the Brazilian Portuguese control group (n =19), but there were transfer effects from Spanish for the L1-Spanish speaking learners and from both Spanish and English in the L1-English speaking learners. We discuss the implications of these findings for the role of transfer in L3 acquisition.KEYWORDS: Null subject parameter. L3 acquisition. Brazilian Portuguese.

Bioremediation as a strategy of clean- up of crude oil spills in water using a mixed microbial population of E. Coli, Aspergillus niger, Penicillum notatum and Pseudomonas aeruginosa was investigated in this study. The sample of crude oil polluted water containing the mixed microbes and the control was monitored for parameters such as BOD, pH, Total Hydrocarbon Content (THC) and Turbidity over a period of nine weeks. At the end of the bioremediation period, the results obtained showed that the sample remediated with the mixed microbes gave a THC drop from 14975mg/l -1.960mg/l (99.9% drop) compared to the control with a drop from 14975 – 18.72mg/l (99.8% drop). A BOD drop from 1447.4mg/l – 17.1mg/l (98.8?% drop) for the sample mixed microbes and 1447.4 – 90.8mg/l (93.7% drop) for the control. Turbidity values increased from 5.0 NTU – 25.2NTU for sample with mixed microbes and 5.0 NTU – 23.1 NTU for the control. The values of THC (1.96 mg/l) and BOD (17.1 mg/l) at the end of the experimentation period fell within the FEPA and DPR limits of 10mg/l and 30mg/l for THC and BOD respectively. The results above thus indicates that the use of mixed microbial population of Pseudomonas aureginosa, Penicillium notatum, E. In this study, the condensation heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop characteristics of a 4 mm outside diameter smooth tube, using R32, R152a, R410A, and R1234ze(E) refrigerants, were examined. Condensation heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops were measured at a saturation temperature of 35 °C, in the region of mass velocities from 100 to 400 kg m−2s−1. The frictional pressure drop, and the condensation heat transfer from the new measurements, using R1234ze(E) as a refrigerant, were compared with those of R32, R152a, and R410A, in the smooth tube. Experimental values of condensation heat transfer coefficient of smooth tube were also compared to the predicted values obtained using the previously established correlations. The previous correlation from Cavallini et al., for the condensation heat transfer coefficient of small-diameter smooth tube, was estimated to be within ±30%. However, the general correlation, which can be easily predicted, for condensation heat transfer inside small-diameter smooth tubes, was suggested, and the relationship of the general correlation was compared with data for R1234ze(E) obtained by us, and R404A and R290 obtained by other researchers.

The nature of the molten electrode metal melting and transfer is the main process parameter of manual metal arc welding (MMA) with coated electrodes. It significantly affects the efficiency of the welding process. For this reason the relevant task is to identify the parameters of the transferred molten electrode metal drops and their further transfer into the weld pool with maximum accuracy. The aim of the given paper is to develop a method and visual representation of the form and the geometrics (volume, area, mass) of a molten electrode metal drop.We have developed the method of simulation modeling and visualization for molten electrode metal drops transfer and their parameters. It allows obtaining highly reliable input data to be used for developing and verification of mathematical models for the thermal fields distribution along the welded item surface. The algorithm is realized as the calculation programs for specifying the molten metal drop parameters and means of its geometrics and space form visualization. We used this method to specify a number of molten electrode metal drop parameters: volume, mass, center-of-gravity position, surface area.We have established that it is possible to conduct the measurements with maximumThe suggested method significantly decreases the labor intensity of experimental studies aimed at specifying the size of electrode metal drops in comparison to the standard methods. When we know the size of the drops under certain welding conditions we can control the drop transfer process, i. e. reduce the heat input into the welded item and produce weld joints with the tailored performance characteristics.

Abstract:

Destes apenas 38 completaram a avaliação (resposta telefónica a questionário semiestruturado). Encontraram-se três fatores preditivospara o drop-out: idade, escolaridade e diagnóstico. I show that the contingent nature of diachronic change is the reason for the slight differences between PNS languages. Modern Russian (MR) and Brazilian Portuguese (BP) are two PNS languages that developed from Consistent Null Subject antecessors (Old Russian and European Portuguese) independently from each other. I account for the change in pro-drop experienced by these two languages, analyzing the properties usually related to the null subject parameter (verbal inflection, clitics, null objects, embedded and arbitrary null subjects), and show that the final parametric setting in both MR and BP was almost identical, with small differences that can be attributed to the different initial conditions for the change. Keywords: Pro-drop; null subjects; null objects; clitics; Consistent Null Subject languages; Partial Null Subject languages; Brazilian Portuguese; European Portuguese; Modern Russian; Old Russian.

Abstract:
A model of stress relaxation in a system of discrete elements is analyzed. The model suggests analyzing a small-time scale of the process when external supply of additional stresses in the system are negligibly small. The nonlinear interaction of elements is similar to the interaction of elements in the open dissipative OFC model. Toppling conditions are determined by the static fatigue effect. It is shown that at a high level of element coupling, the model is characterized by a power-law decay of the drop frequency in time, similar to that observed in aftershock sequences of earthquakes. This regularity slightly depends on the initial distribution of stresses in the system, its exponent is p = 0.85–10 for the element coupling parameter α = 0–0.25. The analysis of the value of the time delay c for the formation of a power-law drop frequency decay shows that this parameter correlates with the duration of large-amplitude drops at the initial step of the relaxation process. The value c is defined in this case by the parameter α. Calculations also shows that relaxation of the mean stress σ(t) in the system of elements follows the relation \(t \propto {{e}^{{ - \gamma \sigma }}}\) with a time delay corresponding to the value for the drop frequency dependence. At the same time, there is no delay in the time series of the mean stress decrease during the drop of an individual element \(d\sigma \). The dependence \(d\sigma \left( t \right)\) is defined by the relation \(t \propto {{e}^{{ - \beta \Delta \sigma }}}\) in the entire temporal interval of the relaxation process. The value β linearly decreases with the increase of element coupling α in the model.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract Mass transfer around a slender drop in a nonlinear extensional and creeping flow is theoretically studied. The fluid mechanics problem is governed by three dimensionless parameters: The capillary number (Ca ≫ 1), the viscosity ratio (λ ≪ 1), and the nonlinear intensity of the flow (|E| ≪ 1). The transfer of mass around such a drop is studied for the two asymptotic cases of large and zero Peclet numbers (Pe). The results show that as the capillary number increases, the drop becomes longer, thinner, its surface area increases, leading to larger mass transfer rates, especially at large Peclet numbers, since then convection contributes to the overall mass transfer as well. Taking a slender inviscid drop (λ = 0) in a linear extensional flow (E = 0) as our reference case, we find that the addition of nonlinear effects to the flow sometimes increases (Eλ−1Ca−2 < 64/9) and sometimes decreases (Eλ−1Ca−2 > 64/9) the rate of mass transfer.

Abstract:
This study considers a supply chain consisting of a supplier and an e-tailer on the internet. The e-tailer replenishes products from the supplier for private inventory and sends drop shipping requests to him for delivering orders to customers when private inventory is insufficient or stock out, whereas the supplier provides drop shipping service with a limited ability for the e-tailer. This paper proposes an algorithm to simulate the scheduling sequences of the e-tailer with the optimal threshold policy and mixture strategy in every scheduling unit and obtains the optimal threshold of private inventory for the e-tailer to achieve average profit maximization. The impacts of mixture of demand and lead time uncertainty are examined. The influence of high priority demand variability on the optimal threshold policy in two complex scenarios are also considered in this study. These results have an important guiding significance for the e-tailer who adopts the mixture strategy in e-fulfillment under complex operating environments.
