Abstract:
This paper presents a web application to support the teaching-learning process of undergraduate database courses, which allows students to practice their knowledge on data modeling using Entity-Relationship (E-R) diagrams. The web application is oriented to teachers and students: teachers prepare examples and exercises, which can have associated E-R diagrams; on the other hand, students are able to design E-R diagrams, which they can review at any time, they also have the option of viewing and solve some of the exercises designed by the teacher. The development of the web application is explained; a comparison of similar existing E-R diagram systems is presented; and the operation of the web application is shown through the creation of an E-R diagram. The results of an instrument applied to students for the evaluation of the web application are provided.

Abstract:
Business case mining and business rule discovery are at the center for entity relationship (E-R) modeling and database design to obtain E-R models. How to transform business cases through business rules into E-R models is a fundamental issue for database design. This article addresses this issue by exploring business case mining and E-R modeling optimization. Business case mining is business rule discovery from a business case. This article reviews case-based reasoning, explores business case-based reasoning, and presents a unified approach to business case mining for business rule discovery. The approach includes people-centered entity/business rule discovery and function-centered entity/business rule discovery. E-R modeling optimization aims to improve the E-R modeling process to get a better E-R diagram that reflects the business case properly. This article proposes a unified optimal method for E-R modeling. The unified optimal method includes people-centered E-R modeling, function-centered E-R modeling, and hierarchical E-R modeling. The approach proposed in this research will facilitate the research and development of E-R modeling, database design, data science, and big data analytics.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT We use photometric and spectroscopic observations of the eclipsing binary E32 in the globular cluster 47 Tuc to derive the masses, radii, and luminosities of the component stars. The system has an orbital period of 40.9 d, a markedly eccentric orbit with e = 0.24, and is shown to be a member of or a recent escaper from the cluster. We obtain $M_{\rm p} = 0.862\pm 0.005 \, \mathrm{M}_\odot$, $R_{\rm p} = 1.183\pm 0.003 \, \mathrm{R}_\odot$, $L_{\rm p} = 1.65\pm 0.05 \, \mathrm{L}_\odot$ for the primary and $M_{\rm s} = 0.827\pm 0.005 \, \mathrm{M}_\odot$, $R_{\rm s} = 1.004\pm 0.004 \, \mathrm{R}_\odot$, $L_{\rm s} = 1.14\pm 0.04\, \mathrm{L}_\odot$ for the secondary. Based on these data and on an earlier analysis of the binary V69 in 47 Tuc, we measure the distance to the cluster from the distance moduli of the component stars, and, independently, from a colour – surface brightness calibration. We obtain 4.55 ± 0.03 and 4.50 ± 0.07 kpc, respectively – values compatible within 1$\, \sigma$ with recent estimates based on Gaia DR2 parallaxes. By comparing the M–R diagram of the two binaries and the colour–magnitude diagram of 47 Tuc to Dartmouth model isochrones we estimate the age of the cluster to be 12.0 ± 0.5 Gyr, and the helium abundance of the cluster to be Y ≈ 0.25.

Abstract:
In this paper, the mechanical properties of the material that define its mechanical behavior are experimentally investigated. All performed experimental tests and analyzes are related to C15E + C steel. The tested material was delivered as cold drawn round bar. It is usually used in mechanical engineering for design of low stressed components. Experimentally obtained results relate to the maximum tensile strength, yield strength, creep behavior, and uniaxial fully reversed high cyclic fatigue. Results representing mechanical properties are shown in the form of engineering stress–strain diagrams, while creep behavior of the material at different temperatures and different stress levels is displayed in the form of creep curves. Tests representing uniaxial cyclic fully reversed mechanical fatigue at constant stresses and room temperature in air are shown in the form of fatigue-life (S−N) diagram. Some of the experimental results obtained are as follows: ultimate tensile strength (σm(20 °C/500 °C)=(598/230) MPa), yield strength (σ0.2(20 °C/500 °C)=(580/ 214 ) MPa ), modulus of elasticity (E(20 °C/500 °C)=(213/106) GPa), and fatigue limit (σf(20 °C, R=−1)=250.83 MPa). The fatigue tests were performed at frequency of 40 Hz and at room temperature (20 °C) in air, with stress ratio of R=−1.

Nowadays, diverse ontology has been proposed in different research fields. Although OWL is an ontology language usually used to define specified ontology in terms of text-based syntax, it is not so friendly and/or appropriate for users to browse the entire framework. In this paper, we constructed a tool to visualize and edit OWL relationships using Entity-Relationship (E-R) diagrams. The tool translates specified functions of an OWL file into E-R diagrams and also extends E-R diagrams to express special OWL functions using extra symbols.

This chapter presents a framework for developing diagram applications. The diagrams refer to those graphs where nodes vary in shape and size used in real world applications, such as flowcharts, UML diagrams, and E-R diagrams. The framework is based on a model the authors developed for diagrams. The model is robust for diagrams and it can represent a wide variety of applications and support the development of powerful application-specific functions. The framework based on this model supports the development of automatic layout techniques for diagrams and the development of the linkage between the graph structure and applications. Automatic layout for diagrams is demonstrated and two case studies for diagram applications are presented.

Abstract:
This volume is intended to employ E–pH diagrams to describe the inorganic solution chemistry of the chemical elements. Such diagrams are very useful in numerous fields of investigation, including electrochemistry, analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, geochemistry, environmental chemistry, corrosion chemistry, hydrometallurgy, water chemistry, agricultural chemistry, toxicology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, health physics, and nutrition. It is assumed that the reader is acquainted with the following major topics which are treated in elementary chemistry: stoichiometry, equilibrium, acid–base phenomena, solubility, complexation, elementary thermodynamics, and electrochemistry. In 1923, W. M. Clark and B. Cohen published a paper in which they introduced the idea of plotting the electromotive force as referred to the hydrogen electrode E against the pH for several chemical systems. In 1928, Clark continued to develop this graphical presentation in his text on the determination of pH. The utility of the method was further extended by numerous other investigators such as M. Pourbaix, G. Valensi, G. Charlot, T. P. Hoar, R. M. Garrels, N. de Zoubov, J. Van Muylder, E. Deltombe, C. Vanleugenhaghe, J. Schmets, M. Maraghini, P. Van Rysselberghe, A. Moussard, J. Brenet, F. Pourbaix in collaboration with N. de Zoubov published Atlas d’equilibres electrochimiques, a collection of E–pH diagrams for 90 chemical elements. This volume was translated into English in 1966 by J. A. Franklin and published as Atlas of Electrochemical Equilibria in Aqueous Solutions. Abstract:
This chapter continues the discussion of electricity but looks at the effect of connecting components together and briefly looks at the operational amplifier and active circuits (circuits discussed in the previous chapter have been passive ones, which involve no electronic circuits). It will then describe how the circuits can be used to process biological signals. If a resistor, an inductor and a capacitor are joined as in Figure 5.1, the magnitude of the voltage across the resistor (Vout) will vary as the input frequency, Vin, changes, because of the properties of the capacitor and inductor. The resistive action of inductor and capacitor oppose each other, and at a certain resonant frequency (r in the figure), the total AC resistance (impedance) will be at a minimum. The graph of reactance against frequency demonstrates this, and shows the minimum reactance at the resonant frequency. As the LC and R are forming a voltage divider, the voltage across R will be maximum at this frequency. At other input frequencies, the output voltage will be low. This simple circuit forms the basics of the passive band-pass filter, where the filter passes, or lets through, a certain band of frequencies (around the resonant frequency in this circuit). Frequencies lower or higher than the band-pass will be attenuated. Normally operational amplifiers (discussed in the next section) or digital filters are more effective and are used to achieve the same effect. Resonance is important for the understanding of the behaviour of transducers and this is discussed in Chapter 12. If a square wave is applied to the resistor capacitor network as shown in Figure 5.2, the capacitor charges up on the rising edge of the input with a time constant equal to the product of the resistance (Ω) and the capacitance (F), RC, and the output voltage will be Vouput = Vinput (1 − e−t /RC ). When the square wave is in the off state, or zero volts, the voltage will fall exponentially with the same time constant. It can be seen from the diagram that, with the appropriate values of R and C, the output from the network is a filtered version of the input.

Abstract:
Abstract As Pipelines are subjected to bursting failure, the prediction of the burst capacities of corroded pipelines is of significant relevance to the pipeline industry. The Single mode deformation processes, most commonly used in laboratory evaluations like tensile test, may not realistically predict formability performance. Therefore, limit strains tests that use multiple deformation stages would better simulate actual material performance hence bulge test is widely used in pipeline industry for analyzing formability. The tube bulge test is an advanced testing material in which the tube is placed in a die cavity and is sealed from both the ends, the water is injected from the hole inside the sealing punch and hydraulic pressure is increased and the tube gets deformed at the center. The objective of this work is to utilize Taguchi coupled finite element computational methodology to determine the optimum material parameters to attain better formability without necking-splitting failure. To evaluate the dependence of the slope of the forming limit diagram on the material parameters, the simulation under various combinations of strain-hardening exponent (n), plastic strain ratio (r) and thickness of tube (t) is carried out and using thickness gradient criterion, the occurrence of necking i. e. forming limit strains during tube bulging is examined. By observing the optimum condition obtained for maximum plain strain it is concluded that higher the n, r and t more the limit strains will be. It is also observed that among n, r and t, n is the most prominent factor contributing on limit strains followed by r and t. The verification of optimum process parameters obtained through Taguchi technique is carried out using additive model and it is found that the observed value is well in agreement with the predicted value, the extra validation simulation is carried out to validate the Taguchi results.

Abstract:
Abstract Cyber-Manufacturing System (CMS) is a vision for the factory of the future, where physical manufacturing resources and processes are integrated with computational workflows to provide on-demand, adaptive, and scalable manufacturing services. In CMS, functional manufacturing components in a factory floor are digitized and encapsulated in production services; and are accessible by users throughout the network. CMS utilizes data-centric technologies to program manufacturing activities in factory floors. Leveraging advanced technologies, CMS can provide robust solutions to achieve better manufacturing agility, flexibility, scalability, and sustainability than from traditional factories. While data is the main driver of the manufacturing activities in CMS, the lack of (i) a generic data model of explicit representation of the entities and stakeholders in CMS and (ii) workflow definition and analysis for service-orientated functionalities and manufacturing intelligence of CMS is still hindering the implementation of a fully executable CMS. To address such problems, this paper (i) formalizes a data modeling of CMS using Entity-Relationship (E-R) diagram, (ii) presents the definition and analysis of workflows along with data pipelines and Extract/Transform/Load (ETL) processes that automate the entire lifecycle activities in CMS and (iii) deploys the proposed data model and workflows in a Web-based application, and (iv) tests the functionality of this application with an industrial case and eventually validates the proposed data model and workflows.

Abstract:
The multiple parameters that are involved in the design of anisotropic conductive adhesive (ACA) assemblies, and the overlapping influences that they have on the final electrical contact resistance, represent a difficult challenge for the designers. The most conflicting parameters include initial bonding force F, number of particles N, adhesion strength GA, and modulus of elasticity E of the cured resin. It is well known that as the bonding force increases, the contact resistance decreases. However, when the bonding force reaches a certain maximum value, the contact between conductive particle and conductive track is disrupted due to delamination of the cured resin during the elastic recovery. The authors have shown in previous studies that the delamination is caused by high residual stresses and that it depends largely on the adhesion strength of the assembly and on the modulus of elasticity of the cured resin. Additionally, the authors have provided a methodology to quantify the maximum threshold value of the bonding force for different numbers of particles trapped between mating conductive tracks. In this paper, the relationships between contact resistance R and each one of these conflicting parameters are systematically combined to create design diagrams that give regions of robust design. It is found, for example, that for particles of radius 5μm, E = 0.9 GPa, GA = 50 J/m2, and 2 ≤ N ≤ 5, the required bonding force to achieve contact resistance within the range 7 < R < 40 mω, is 2.5 < F < 20mN.
