Abstract:
To assess the functional significance of late inspiratory (late-I) neurons in inspiratory off-switching (IOS), membrane potential and discharge properties were examined in vagotomized, decerebrate cats. During spontaneous IOS, late-I neurons displayed large membrane depolarization and associated discharge of action potentials that started in late inspiration, peaked at the end of inspiration, and ended during postinspiration. Depolarization was decreased by iontophoresis of dizocilpine and eliminated by tetrodotoxin. Stimulation of the vagus nerve or the nucleus parabrachialis medialis (NPBM)

Objectives: The ability of children to use predicates in spontaneous language is important for expressing their intentions and producing sentences as well. This study aimed to examine the use of predicates in children aged 2;6-3;11 and the relationship between the use of predicates and syntax development. Methods: Sixty children aged 2;6-3;11 participated in this study. The participants were classified into three groups of 6-month intervals: late 2-years, early 3-years, and late 3-years. Spontaneous language samples were collected during an interaction between the researcher and the children us

Left ventricle thrombi occurring following myocardial infarction are usually left to spontaneous resolution to avoid a left ventriculotomy in the early phase of myocardial healing. We describe a simple and safe method of ventricular closure in patients with left ventricular thrombi embolizing to the lower extremities following acute anterior myocardial infarction. Ventricles were closed by epicardially running 5/0 polypropylene sutures in continous fashion to avoid the myocardial tearing of heavier suture materials and the late adverse effects of Teflon use. The aim of the present study was to investigate evolution of autonomic function during normal pregnancy without history of hypertension. 23 women of mean age 27,4±4,4 yrs on 12-14 weeks of gestation were examined. Spontaneous baroreflex function (BRS) was analyzed by Finometer device with beat-to-beat blood pressure registration. All measurements were performed at supine rest and 5 minute passive tilt (70). Baroreflex was calculated by sequence technique. 12 women were studies second time on 26-30 week of pregnancy. A normal or increases values of spontaneous baroreflex were observed in early

The Roman wall, of rectangular plan and rounded corners, following the canonical military model, is the major evidence of the fortress built by the Legion VII Gemina in León in 74 AD. The archaeological interventions developed throughout the decades have confirmed that the defensive system consists of two adjacent walls: the first one dates back to the Low Empire, while the other, attached to the previous one by its external face, is dated Late Third to Early Fourth century AD. We, too, must add an internal rampart (agger) corresponding to a previous defensive system. The 3D virtual restitutio

INTRODUCTION: The opioid epidemic continues to worsen, and in 2022, Delaware had the fourth highest rate of overdose-related deaths in the United States. In pregnancy, opioid use disorder (OUD) is associated with increased risks of fetal growth restriction, abruption, and preterm birth (PTB). This study describes PTBs in patients with OUD. METHODS: This was a retrospective study obtained via chart review, deidentified, and included all patients with a positive urine drug screen (UDS) for opioids who delivered in one Delaware hospital between January 2018 and December 2021. To determine the site of origin of pancreatic glucagon's inhibitory effect on spontaneous feeding in rats, glucagon was infused into either the hepatic portal vein or the inferior vena cava during spontaneous meals late in the dark phase. Hepatic portal infusion of 1.7-13.6 micrograms glucagon/meal reduced spontaneous meal size. In contrast, these doses did not significantly affect meal size when delivered via vena caval catheters that ended near the junction of the hepatic vein. This difference indicates that glucagon receptor sites in the liver initiate the satiating action of glucagon durin

It is argued in the article that the development of Akbar’s religious views before his espousal of Shul-i Kul, after 1578, cannot be entirely linked to changing political exigencies. Akbar’s own personal character and inclinations must also be factored in. It is particularly argued that the thesis of a turn to Muslim orthodoxy in the late 1560s and the 1570s must be reconsidered.
