Abstract:
This article presents data on the Early Bronze Age (EBA) of the Anatolian plateau. The EBA on the plateau has been identified as a period of “urbanization,” or at least the age in which complex society emerged, including the rise of an extensive trade network, established by the second half of the third millennium BCE. Chalcolithic period interregional trade with regions as far afield as Transcaucasia and possibly southeastern Europe was strengthened by connections ranging across the plateau, stretching into the Aegean, and southeastward to northern Mesopotamia and beyond. Abstract:
This chapter tackles the problem of finding data-derived indicators to measure the quality of peace, versus a definition of peace simply as the absence of war. Conceptually, peace is seen as an equilibrium condition where resort to violence is minimal and where the highest quality of peace exists when the idea of armed violence approaches the unthinkable. The author draws upon the early work of Quincy Wright and Kenneth Boulding and progresses from there, establishing first their definitions of and conditions for peace. To put his theories to work, he introduces two proxy indicators: black mar

Pelvic ring injuries can be life and limb threatening. The mechanism of injury can often be a good indicator of the type of injury; the Young & Burgess classification deploys that concept to full effect. Early identification based on mechanism of injury and improved prehospital care can play a major role in the outcome following such injuries. Pelvic ring injuries can lead to significant haemorrhage. Mechanical measures to stabilize the pelvis, in addition to modern concepts of damage control resuscitation (DCR), have been shown to be effective in early management of potentially life-threa

Abstract:
This book focuses on how, for Berkeley, mind is related to its ideas. It does not assume that thinkers like Descartes, Malebranche, or Locke define for Berkeley the context in which he develops his own thought. Instead, it indicates how he draws on a tradition that informed his early training and that challenges much of the early modern thought with which he is often associated. Specifically, this book indicates how Berkeley’s distinctive treatment of mind (as the activity whereby objects are differentiated and related to one another) highlights how mind neither precedes the existence of objec

Compelling research indicates that the mental health trajectory of an individual begins before birth. Engaging with parents and young children based on risk factors for future mental health problems allows an opportunity to guide the trajectory in a positive direction. When behavioral and emotional problems do emerge, intervening early has a much better chance of helping the child get back on track with social–emotional development before issues become entrenched. Using a case example, this chapter highlights the importance of developing systems within health care and other settings for early

The Uruguayan story was one of declines in the early years of the 2000s in most indicators, followed by improvements in all of them. Economic growth was negative in the early years due to a severe economic crisis, and positive and rapid thereafter except during the international crisis of 2008. The chapter shows that most labour indicators followed the same U-shaped pattern and were in 2012 at a better level than at the beginning of the decade, with the exceptions of labour earnings and some poverty indicators. The international crisis of 2008 slowed or temporarily stopped the improvements in
