Preparation for participating in the Eucharist took place in the fourth and fifth centuries as part of pre-baptismal catechesis, and to a more degree as part of mystagogical catechesis which took place after baptism. A few of such catecheses have been preserved after saint Augustine. He preached them at Easter. In these catecheses he tried to make neophytes aware of the real presence of Christ in Bread and Wine. He justified it using biblical texts especially Christ’s statements about „the living bread”. The main task and duty of Christians was to wake up in the faith and receive the Eucharist

Abstract:
The black rail (Laterallus jamaicensis) is the most secretive of the secretive marsh birds and one of the least understood species in North America. On the east coast, eastern black rails historically bred in tidal and freshwater marshes along the Atlantic coast from Massachusetts, south to Florida. Within the mid-Atlantic region suitable black rail habitat is concentrated in the high marsh along the upper elevational zone of salt marshes. This zone is dominated by salt meadow hay (Spartina patens), saltgrass (Distichlis spicata), and is often interspersed with shrubs such as marsh elder (Iva

The oldest regional ice flow in the Nose Lake map area is southwestward. Subsequent northwestward flow is inferred from streamlined bedrock in central and eastern regions. The final and youngest flow was southwestward in these same regions, recorded by an abundance of streamlined landforms in till blanket and bedrock. The western edge of this late active ice lobe is defined by recessional moraines, part of the Twin Jugs moraine, also marking the eastern limit of a broad band of hummocky till from downwasting ice. During deglaciation, short-lived proglacial lakes, identified by raised beaches a

In the Laurentian Great Lakes, the seismostratigraphy revealed by legacy seismic reflection profiles (i.e., analogue paper records) provides insight to the history of glaciation and deglaciation, sediment deposition and lake level history. Digital recovery and analysis of Great Lakes legacy seismic data is a cost-effective method to generate the offshore broad scale surfaces pertinent to the surficial framework geology layer required as input by three-dimensional stratigraphic studies. Birch, Izzy. The Effectiveness of Training in Building Capacity for Governance Reform. Institute of Development Studies, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/k4dd.2024.010.

Abstract:
This rapid evidence review examines the effectiveness of individual training in building capacity for governance reform, focusing on state and democratic governance in middle- to low-income countries. The report reviewed both academic and grey literature on different areas of intervention that fall within the two broad categories of state and democratic governance. While evidence from the Eastern Neighbourhood was scarce, broader findings suggest that purposeful, problem-centered high-quality training is more likely to contribute to governance reform when sustained. However, the review acknowl

The article aims at assessing the current state of Saudi-Iranian relations and the reconciliation process taking place between the two Middle Eastern countries since 2021 by overviewing the main factors both on the domestic and international levels which can serve as either incentives for cooperation or obstacles. In the domestic realm, economic considerations are the primary drivers for both governments to get closer to each other. Regionally, the Yemeni conflict, Lebanese domestic politics, as well as the Iranian nuclear question are the most important issues affecting the process. In themse

Abstract:
This paper explores the relevance of international debates to the realities of the Middle East, an important but understudied region that has often been subject to stereotyping. The region’s wealth of traditions and diverse contemporary experience offer insights to those who venture beyond the surface appearance. This paper provides a broad introduction to the connections between family, gender, and population policy in the Middle East. It is based on studies by a diverse group of Middle East scholars and the discussions they generated in Cairo at an international symposium sponsored by the Po

Preliminary surficial geology studies, based on air photo interpretation and limited legacy field data in the Brichta Lake map area, provide an understanding of the distribution and nature of surficial materials, and regional glacial history. The terrain is characterized by extensive glacial and meltwater scouring that has affected bedrock outcrops, and eroded hummocky and streamlined till, till blankets, and till veneers in the southwest regions. Streamlined bedrock and till landforms indicate ice flow towards the northwest and north-northwest during the last glaciation. Subglacial meltwater

Research on seeps and springs in the eastern United States is limited and few protocols for documenting and inventorying these valuable eastern ecosystems have been established. In the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA), seeps and springs may host species of concern and represent hotspots of biodiversity within an already biodiverse park. This project’s goal was to survey the entire park to identify seeps and springs, collect location data, document the hydrogeology and ecology of these systems, and determine sites for future study. West-central Yukon and eastern Alaska are characterized by widespread metamorphic rocks that form part of the allochthonous, composite Yukon-Tanana terrane and parautochthonous North American margin. Structural windows through the Yukon-Tanana terrane expose parautochthonous North American margin in that broad region, particularly as mid-Cretaceous extensional core complexes. Both the Yukon-Tanana terrane and parautochthonous North American margin share the same Late Devonian history, making their discrimination difficult; however, distinct post-Late Devonian magmatic and metamorphic histories
