Abstract:
To assess the relationship between the training/preparation of physical education teachers and their perceivedinstructional confidence levels across major topic areas established by the Illinois State Board of Education ascritical content areas. In total, 283 individuals participated and were included in the data analysis. The participantssurveyed were currently enrolled or recently graduated from physical education or kinesiology departments at (1.)the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, (2.) Illinois State University, and (3.) Eastern Illinois University.Data were collected via in-person and email surveys using the HECS 18 item survey instrument. Analysisdemonstrated a statistically significant difference exists between the perceived instructional confidence of currentstudents and recent graduates regarding major health topic areas. Further work with this population is required todetermine if the results seen in the state of Illinois are consistent. The next proposed sample area will be the state ofColorado and its three main Universities (University of Colorado, Colorado State University, Metropolitan StateUniversity of Denver) and their health and physical educators (HPE).

In 1988 the American Civil Liberties Union filed a class action lawsuit against the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), on behalf of B. H., a 17-year- old youth in foster care, and nearly 20,000 other children forced to live outside their home because of abuse and neglect. Attorneys accused the DCFS, responsible for pro- tecting and placing such children, with violations of Illinois statutes and the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. B. H., for example, had been placed in ten different settings despite clear evidence that children require continuity of care for their emotional growth.

Abstract:
Annie Campbell Higgins was born and raised in the Chicago area. After receiving a BA in geography from Northwestern University, she entered the University of Chicago's Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations (NELC) in 1988 and graduated with a PhD in Islamic thought in 2001, having been awarded the prestigious Stuart Tave Award in the Humanities. During this period, she taught Arabic language and several Middle Eastern subjects at the University of Chicago, Loyola University, the University of Illinois in Chicago, the College of William and Mary, and the University of Florida. After graduation she held tenure-track positions in Arabic literature and language at Wayne State University and then at the College of Charleston. The key to Annie's academic career was her love of and commitment to the study of Arabic language and culture. Even before entering NELC, she had spent a year in Egypt (1985–86) studying Arabic and making a point of mixing with Egyptians, learning about their culture and speaking their dialect with enthusiasm.

Abstract:
Abstract The Central European Exchange Programme for University Studies (CEEPUS) was founded more than 25 years ago with the aim of supporting the strategic role of the region by academic and further cooperation among the Central, Eastern and Balkan States of Europe. Its framework covers mobility grants for students and teachers within academic networks designed to operate joint programmes and degrees. The importance and impact of CEEPUS are less researched and highlighted compared to the European Union flagship Erasmus Programme, but its results and potential made a comeback to international political agendas and are an actual topic on policy forums. The current scheme is secured only until 2025. Therefore, this research intends to support decision and policymaking processes for future planning by presenting the outcomes of programme participation and necessary changes for improvement and to answer whether the CEEPUS is still needed besides the Erasmus+ and other mobility programs. Hungary is among the founders and one of the most important member states considering the allocated grants, the number of professional networks and mobilities—that make the processed sample representative and valuable.

Stoddard, president of the university from 1946 to 1953, was a controversial man, an East Coaster, a liberal, and an internationalist. Through much of his tenure he had difficult relations with both the university’s board of trustees and the state legislature, and he also faced opposition from conservative faculty at UI. A scandal over a phony cancer cure brought undesired publicity to the school and was the last in a series of controversies that led to his dismissal by the board in a late-night Illini Union meeting.

In early October the DRU voted to sit-in at the local draft board, and two members announced they’d burn their draft cards the day of the event. Herbert Gutowsky, Chemistry Department head, met with SDS and CEWV leaders on their Dow plans, advising a responsible approach. On the day of the sit-in, university faculty held a teach-in, Steve Schmidt and Rick Soderstrom burned their draft cards on the patio of the Union, and hundreds marched to the draft board, where ten protesters were arrested for sitting in. That evening, before Staughton Lynd spoke, bail money was collected for those in jail.

Bekington Myrboh of North-Eastern Hill University reported (Tetrahedron Lett. 2010, 51, 2862) a convenient procedure for the oxidative removal of a 1,3-oxathiolane 1 or a 1,3-dithiolane. Sang-Gyeong Lee and Yong-Jin Yoon of Gyeongsang National University developed (J. Org. Chem. 2010, 75, 484) the pyridazin-3(2H )-one 4 for the microwave-mediated deprotection of an oxime 3. Dario M. Bassani of Université Bordeaux 1 and John S. Snaith of the University of Birmingham devised (J. Org. Chem. 2010, 75, 4648) a procedure for the facile preparation of esters such as 6. Brief photolysis (350 nm) returned the parent carboxylic acid 7. Craig M. Williams of the University of Queensland prepared (Tetrahedron Lett. 2010, 51, 1158) the trithioorthoester 8 by iterative opening of epichlorohydrin. He found that the keto ester 9 could be efficiently released by Hg-mediated hydrolysis. Masatoshi Mihara of the Osaka Municipal Technical Research Institute established (Synlett 2010, 253) that even very congested alcohols such as 10 could be acetylated by acetic anhydride containing a trace of FeCl3. Colleen N. Scott, now at Southern Illinois University, developed (J. Org. Chem. 2010, 75, 253) a convenient procedure for the preparation of the hydridosilane 13, which on Mn catalysis added the alcohol 12 to make the unsymmetrical bisalkoxysilane 14. Sabine Berteina-Raboin of the Université d’Orléans found (Tetrahedron Lett. 2010, 51, 2115) that NaBH4 in EtOH cleanly removed the chloroacetates from 15. Both other esters and silyl ethers were stable under these conditions. Ram S. Mohan of Illinois Wesleyan University established (Tetrahedron Lett. 2010, 51, 1056) that Fe(III) tosylate in methanol selectively removed the alkyl silyl ether from 17 without affecting the aryl silyl ether. Alakananda Hajra and Adinath Majee of Visva-Bharati University effected (Tetrahedron Lett. 2010, 51, 2896) formylation of an amine 19 by heating with commercial 85% formic acid as the solvent in a sealed tube at 80°C. Although both primary and secondary amines could be effi ciently formylated, the primary amines were much more reactive. Doo Ok Jang of Yonsei University found (Tetrahedron Lett. 2010, 51, 683) that the conveniently handled CF3CCO2H (the acid chloride is a gas) could be activated in situ to selectively convert 22 into 24.

Abstract:
Rural development could be defined simply as economic development in rural areas. However, practitioners and researchers find rural development involves more than mere economic strategies. Many rural communities struggle with changes from resource extractive to service-based economies, along with cultural impacts of globalization (Harrington 1995; Ewert 1997). Rural development in response is becoming integrative like geography, considering class structure, community values, natural resources, social capital, sustainability, and regional and global forces (World Commission on Environment and Development 1987; Straussfogel 1997; Heartland Center for Leadership Development 1998). Rural development has represented an explicit research perspective within geography since 1982. Geographers, through their ability to integrate human and physical aspects of place, can help communities assess complex change and devise strategies to meet their goals (Stoddart 1986; Turner 1989; Abler et al. 1992). Integrated descriptions of human and physical aspects of place can benefit relationships with undergraduate students (Marshall 1991), other geographers (Bowler et al. 1992), rural development researchers in other fields, and rural development practitioners (Kenzer 1989). Geographers may be especially useful in the interdisciplinary world of sustainable development (Wilbanks 1994). The Rural Development Specialty Group began in 1982 as the result of an International Geographic Union (IGU) working group meeting in Fresno, California. The group was formed “to promote sharing of ideas and information among geographers interested in the many facets of rural development.” Richard Lonsdale (University of Nebraska) and Donald Q. Innis (State University of New York at Geneseo) were co-founders. Subsequent leaders included Vincent Miller (Indiana University of Pennsylvania), John Dietz (University of Northern Colorado), Al Larson (University of Illinois at Chicago), Paul Frederic (University of Maine at Farmington), Henry Moon (University of Toledo), Brad Baltensperger (Michigan Technological University), Karen Nichols (State University of New York at Geneseo), William Forbes (University of North Texas), and Peter Nelson (Middlebury College). The group may soon merge with the Contemporary Agriculture and Rural Land Use Specialty Group, forming a larger Rural Geography Specialty Group that will continue to provide a forum for rural development research in geography.

Abstract:
There is need to re-examine the inclusion or exclusion of indigenous knowledge (IK) in the university curriculum in sub Saharan Africa (SSA). Western scientific knowledge on which the university curriculum in SSA is mainly based has proved to be inadequate in addressing developmental challenges. Using the curriculum of library and information science (LIS) departments in Anglophone east and southern Africa (AESA) as a case study, this chapter focuses on factors that influence the inclusion of IK in higher education in SSA. IK is recognised for its potential contribution to development by organisations such as the World Bank and African Union. Its inclusive ethos and accommodation of multiple realities also accounts for its popularity. In spite of that, IK has not established a stronghold in LIS curriculum in AESA. This study investigates the factors that influence its integration into the curriculum and makes recommendations based on the findings.

Full text
Abstract:
Psychiatric nursing as an entity has really only evolved since the Second World War. Psychiatric nurses (now often referred to as mental health nurses in the United Kingdom and Australasia) can now be found in most countries of the developed world, although in the developing world, psychiatric nursing is still not defined as a specific discipline. In many countries, psychiatric hospitals are still staffed by untrained ‘Attendants’ who may have some supervision from general trained nurses. Nevertheless, a number of initiatives, notably those of the Geneva Initiative in Psychiatry in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union and the World Health Organization in African countries, have provided specific training in psychiatric nursing techniques. The development of psychiatric nursing across the world needs to be seen in the context of changing and evolving patterns of mental health care. De-institutionalization, with the attendant setting up of community mental health teams, has prompted a range of innovations in psychiatric nursing and the psychiatric nurse of today, who in the United States and Europe is likely to be a university graduate, is a very different person to that of the nurse working in the post-Second World War asylums of 40 years ago. In this chapter, we examine the development of psychiatric nursing in some detail and particularly emphasize the role of psychiatric nurses working in the community. Community psychiatric nursing first developed in the United Kingdom nearly 50 years ago and this model has been followed in countries such as Australia and New Zealand. However, this community role has not developed to any great extent in the United States, where the main presence of psychiatric nursing remains in hospital-based care. Furthermore, in the United Kingdom and Australasia, the development of community initiatives has seen the role of the psychiatric nurse blurring with that of other mental health professionals. Chapters such as this cannot really do justice to the whole range of techniques used by psychiatric nurses; neither can it examine in any detail the differences between psychiatric nursing practices across the world. However, a description of psychiatric nursing in six important areas will provide the reader with an appreciation of the range and diversity of psychiatric nursing skills:♦ Inpatient care ♦ Psychosocial interventions in the community ♦ Prescribing and medication management ♦ Cognitive behaviour therapy ♦ Primary care ♦ Psychiatric nursing in the developing world.
