Abstract:

Abstract:
Background: Most studies on the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) focus exclusively on women. Aims: To examine the internal consistency and convergent validity of the EDE-Q in Spanish undergraduate men and to compare the results with those obtained previously in college samples of Spanish women and American men. Methods: 269 college men, aged 18–30 years, answered the EDE-Q, Eating Disorder Inventory (EDI-2), and Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ). Results: The four subscale scores and the global score of the EDE-Q achieved acceptable internal consistency (α ≥ .65), and evidence on convergent validity with EDI-2 and BSQ was obtained (r ≥ .41). Average scores, standard deviations, and percentile ranks for the raw EDE-Q subscales and data on the occurrence of binge eating and compensatory behaviors are presented. Most values were lower than those found in previous studies with Spanish undergraduate women and American undergraduate men. Discussion: Lower scores in EDE-Q subscales provide country differences between Spain and United States and support the existence of gender differences in eating disorders attitudes. These data should help clinicians and researchers to interpret the EDE-Q scores of college men in Spain.

Abstract:
The Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) is a gold standard questionnaire to identify eating disorder symptoms but has not yet been validated in Danish. The scale consists of four theoretical constructs of disordered eating: Restraint eating, Eating concerns, Shape concerns and Weight concerns. However, the four-factor structure has been difficult to replicate across cultures. This study aimed to examine the factor structure and psychometric properties of the EDE-Q in Danish. The study consisted of four samples (aged 15–70): Patients with anorexia, bulimia and unspecified eating disorders (n = 101), patients with symptoms of binge-eating disorder (n = 300), recreational athletes (n = 404), and elite athletes (n = 526). Depending on the analysis performed, participants had to complete the EDE-Q, the SCOFF questionnaire for eating disorders or the Binge Eating Disorders Questionnaire. In accordance with international research, we found no evidence for a four-factor structure in the EDE-Q among patients or among athletes. But our results showed significant, positive associations between EDE-Q and SCOFF, BED-Q and MDI in all samples. We conclude that the internal structure of EDE-Q is low, while construct validity is high, making EDE-Q useful as an instrument to identify individuals with eating disorder symptoms, including recreational, and elite athletes.

Abstract:
This research examines the internal consistency, convergent validity, and sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive value of the Spanish version of the Eating Disorder Examination-Self-Report Questionnaire (S-EDE-Q), as a screening questionnaire for eating disorders (ED) in a community sample. Participants were 1543 male and female Spanish-speaking students (age range: 12-21 years), who volunteered to complete the S-EDE-Q and the EAT-40. The Spanish version of the Eating Disorders Examination (S-EDE) interview, 12th edition, was administered to 602 of the students. Acceptable internal consistency for the four subscales of the S-EDE-Q was obtained (α ≥ .74). Corrected pointbiserial correlation performed with the 22 items included in the S-EDE-Q subscales showed acceptable values for all the items. The EAT-40 Dieting subscale correlated highly and positively with the four S-EDE-Q subscales (r ≥ .70). Acceptable results in sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive value when compared with the EDE were found. Correlation between S-EDE and S-EDE-Q diagnoses was positive and significant. Overall, results support the psychometric adequacy of the S-EDE-Q as a screening questionnaire for ED in community samples.

Abstract:
ObjectivesThe Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) is a self-report questionnaire that is used to identify probable cases of eating disorders. Norms are needed for interpretation of scores. The aim of this study is to establish norms for the EDE-Q among female university students attending a university primary health care service in Ireland and to present prevalence of key eating disorder behaviours.MethodsThe EDE-Q was administered to a consecutive sample of 200 female students aged 18–30 years attending a university primary health care service.ResultsThe mean global EDE-Q score was 1.51 (s.d.=1.28). There was a positive association between body mass index and the global EDE-Q score; 5.8% of the sample scored in the clinically significant range on the global EDE-Q score.ConclusionsThis study presents normative EDE-Q data for an Irish female university sample. These norms may inform clinicians and/or researchers in the evaluation of EDE-Q scores in Irish female university students

Abstract:
Objective: The aim of this study was to develop, evaluate, and standardize a short form of the well-established Eating Disorder Examination-Questionnaire (EDE-Q). The newly developed EDE-Q8 was required to reflect the originally postulated structure of the EDE-Q. Method: Data were drawn from two nationwide representative population surveys in Germany: a survey conducted to develop the EDE-Q8 in 2009 (N = 2520); and a survey conducted in 2013 (N = 2508) for the evaluation and calculation of EDE-Q8 percentiles. Results: The EDE-Q8 had excellent item characteristics, very good reliability and a very good model fit for the postulated second-order factorial structure. Furthermore, a strong correlation between the EDE-Q8 and a 13 item short form of the Eating Attitudes Test was observed. Discussion: The EDE-Q8 appears to be particularly suitable in epidemiological research, when an economical assessment of global eating disorder psychopathology is required.

Abstract:
Aims: The aim of this study was to develop and validate a short version of the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) for sessional outcome assessment, which is sensitive to clinical change. Method: A principal component analysis was conducted to determine the factor structure of 489 EDE-Qs completed by individuals with a range of eating disorders. Rasch analysis was carried out on each identified factor. The statistical information and expert ratings (N=10) informed the inclusion/exclusion criteria for each EDE-Q item. The EDE-Q's response scale properties were also investigated using the Rasch model. Data from people with (N=54) and without eating disorders (N=503) were collected through an online survey to assess the reliability, validity and sensitivity of the new measure. Results: A 12-item short version, the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire Short (EDE-QS) was developed. Initial psychometric evaluation showed that the EDE-QS is a reliable, valid and sensitive questionnaire. Conclusions: The EDE-QS appears suitable for the use as a brief and user-friendly sessional outcome measure.
