Background: The development of an ultrasound probe that can be used through an arthroscopic portal would provide direct access to the deep tissues of the shoulder. These structures are sometimes barely seen with an external ultrasound system and are also difficult to analyze under arthroscopy. Therefore, this intraoperative imaging technique could refine the diagnosis and surgical procedure and as a result provide more adequate therapy.

This thesis investigation, approached from theoretical and practical perspectives, analyzes the most common nondestructive methods and techniques (NDE) applied in the field of architectural preservation in the United States of America. The research covers the study of the performance and common applications of the different nondestructive techniques, to compare them and recognize their possibilities and limitations, both individually and in combination with others. Most of the north American architectural heritage shares two characteristics: it was built after 1850 and it was built in height.

Typical indications where TOE has a proven superiority include diagnosis of left atrial thrombi, especially in the appendage, morphological evaluation of atrial septal defect, infective endocarditis, mitral valve disease, aortic and prosthetic valves, aortic diseases, and intraoperative moni

Abstract Tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) is a congenital fistula between the trachea and esophagus. Prenatal ultrasound suggests a diagnosis of TEF by findings of polyhydramnios and a small or absent fetal stomach bubble. There are five subtypes of TEF, which are determined by the location of the fistula and presence or absence of esophageal atresia, the most common being type C. Additional congenital anomalies occur in 50% of patients with TEF. Many of these congenital anomalies are part of the VACTERL (vertebral defects, anal atresia, cardiac anomalies, TEF, renal agenesis and dysplasia, and

Cancer of the colon is the second leading cause of cancer related death in North America and Europe. Colonoscopy is currently the gold standard for the detection and removal of polyps and the diagnosis of cancer. Although a field of intense research, there are currently no surrogate serum or stool markers that accurately identify patients at risk who may have adenomatous colon polyps or curable cancer. Clinicians therefore rely on white light colonoscopy to survey colonic mucosa in their search for polyps. White light endoscopy has some limitations. It cannot detect flat, non-raised lesions. I

During endoscopy of the esophagus fluorescence images were recorded at a delay of 20 ns after pulsed laser excitation simultaneously with conventional reflected white light images. To label malignant cells (dysplasia, tumor) 5-aminolaevulinic acid was applied prior to fluorescence guided biopsy. In this way premalignant and malignant lesions were detected not seen previously during routine endoscopy.
