The purpose of the present research is to perform a retrospective analysis of 242 ventricular shunts implanted in childhood due to infantile hydrocephalus, submitted to a long-term follow-up (27.84 ± 6.13 years) and investigate the factors influencing the survival of the shunt, applying modern mathematical approaches. The contingent consists of 242 patients who were shunted due to infantile hydrocephalus in childhood, 55% of whom were under 6 months old when the shunt was implanted. Natural Resource Condition Assessments provide a snapshot-in-time evaluation of park resource conditions. For this report, twenty-five metrics were synthesized in four categories: Air Quality, Water Resources, Biological Integrity, and Landscape Dynamics. The assessment of condition was based on the comparison of available data collected between 2002 and 2014 to justified ecological threshold values. This report was first published in 2016; however, an error was noted in the report resulting in

The National Park Service (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Program conducts long-term ecological monitoring of high-priority indicator resources, deemed “vital signs.” This protocol documents the justification and procedure for monitoring breeding landbirds, a vital sign, in one of the 32 ecoregional I&M networks, the National Capital Region Network (NCRN). “Landbird” refers to the many avian species that spend the majority of their lives in a terrestrial environment, including tree-dwelling birds, perching birds or songbirds, raptors, and ground-feeding birds.
