The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the effects of gender inequality on GDP and GDP per capita. A cross sectional analysis of 177 countries over the time period 1998 to 2008 is undertaken with the use of linear regressions. There are several different factors that contribute to the gender inequality within a country and several ways to measure that disparity. The most well known measurement is the Gender-related Development Index and the components within this composite index have been studied thoroughly, although the index as a whole has not. This thesis will determine the factors that have affected the economy in the countries from ex-Yugoslavia. A couple of regression analyses will test the correlation between GDP Growth or GDP per Capita and twelve independent variables. The analyses tell us that high import ratio, low inflation and not being in an intrastate war are associated with high GDP Growth, where high political rights, being a member of the European Union or having a status as a Candidate Country are associated with high GDP per Capita. This thesis explores how economic performance, measured as real GDP-growth per capita, affects the vote share of parties which relies on radical ideological platforms. Using a fixed effect model with panel data, based on real electoral outcomes of 18 western European democracies, the result reveals an ambiguous reality. In this paper, the predictive capabilities of the Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI), based on business and consumer surveys in the Euro area, are evaluated by out-of-sample forecasts of Swedish GDP growth. A steady state Bayesian VAR-model is applied to quarterly data from 1996 to 2014. The results show that the inclusion of the ESI improves the forecasting performance, both in the point predictive measurement Root Mean Square Errors and in the forecast density sharpness measurement Log Predictive Density Scores. Health is one of the most important components of human capital. It can affect production level of a country through various channels. In this study the causal relationship of health and real GDP per capita income in 5 low income countries of Africa south of the Sahara is analyzed using granger causality test.
