Currently, there is a lack of affordable and simple tools for the estimation of these costs, especially for machining operations. This is particularly true for manufacturing SMEs, in which the cost estimation of machined parts is usually performed based only on required material for part production, or involves a time-consuming, non-standardized technical analysis. Therefore, a cost estimation tool was developed, based on the calculated machining times and amount of required material, based on the final drawing of the requested workpiece. The tool was developed primarily for milling machines,

It is a common practise that measurements of road surface conditions are made using professional and expensive apparatus. Typically a van or a truck equipped with a set of professional sensors i.e. laser scanners of surface is used, therefore the measurement update period is often quite long. Two alternative low-cost methods for estimating road pavement defects and failures were proposed and investigated by the authors. The first one is based on accelerometers application and the other one employs image analysis acquired by cameras installed on a vehicle.

The thesis considers time series and econometric models with stochastic trend components. Locally Best Invariant tests for the presence of stochastic trends are constructed and their asymptotic distributions derived. Particular attention is paid to models with structural breaks, as the tests have high power also against alternative hypotheses in which the trends of the series contain a small number of breaks but are otherwise deterministic. Asymptotic critical values of the tests are tabulated for series with a single breakpoint. A modification of the LBI statistic is then proposed, for which

Semiparametric frequency domain methods rely on a local parametric specification of the spectral density in a neighbourhood of the frequency of interest. They can also serve as the basis for the estimation of regular parts of the spectrum. Abstract As oil and gas production moves to more challenging high temperature and high pressure conditions, using corrosion inhibitors (CIs) to mitigate carbon steel corrosion becomes more difficult for two main reasons. One reason is that the chemicals are susceptible to thermal degradation at high temperatures. This can lead to loss of inhibition performance and possibly precipitation which can block injection equipment. The other main reason is that satisfactory inhibition performance is typically only achieved by significantly higher chemical dosage at high temperatures compared to dosages

As such, most high-voltage induction risk studies use a series of approximations. The need for improved susceptibility estimation has expanded in the last two years alone. Abstract:
Beta-sorted portfolios—portfolios comprised of assets with similar covariation to selected risk factors—are a popular tool in empirical finance to analyze models of (conditional) expected returns. Despite their widespread use, little is known of their statistical properties in contrast to comparable procedures such as two-pass regressions. We formally investigate the properties of beta-sorted portfolio returns by casting the procedure as a two-step nonparametric estimator with a nonparametric first step and a beta-adaptive portfolios construction. Our framework rationalizes the well-known esti

Abstract:
Security concerns in a context of increasingly segmented supply chains haveled to stricter border control measures, which may potentially negatively affect international trade. Customs around the world have therefore implemented security-motivated certification programs to facilitate licit trade. These programs offer trustworthy trading firms, i.e., Authorized Economic Operators (AEOs), several advantages in the administrative processing of their shipments including less frequent physical inspections and expedited customs clearance. In this study we focus on Mexico's AEO Program NEEC. In parti

Abstract:
A growing number of applications involve settings where, in order to infer heterogeneous effects, a researcher compares various units. Examples of research designs include children moving between different neighborhoods, workers moving between firms, patients migrating from one city to another, and banks offering loans to different firms. We present a unified framework for these settings, based on a linear model with normal random coefficients and normal errors. Using the model, we discuss how to recover the mean and dispersion of effects, other features of their distribution, and how to const
