Abstract:
<p>Pesticide firms in the United States must undertake costly, crop-specific Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) safety tests to register their pesticides for sale to farmers of commercial crops. Firms also must pay annual registration fees and periodically undertake additional safety tests on each pesticide?s crop-specific registrations. These requirements create a market unlike others because firms may not freely enter or remain in a crop?s pesticide market. Abstract:
An increasing emphasis on chemical process safety over the last two decades has led to the development and application of powerful risk assessment tools. Hazard analysis and risk evaluation techniques have developed to the point where quantitatively meaningful risks can be calculated for processes and plants. However, the results are typically presented in semi-quantitative “ranked list” or “categorical matrix” formats, which are certainly useful but not optimal for making business decisions. Abstract:
This thesis provides the first in depth study of formal and informal labour markets in Georgia, based on the analysis of labour force and household survey data for 1998, 1999. Despite a massive collapse in output, following the dismantlement of the former Soviet Union, open unemployment increased relatively little in Georgia. This thesis suggests that this was, in part, due to a transfer of labour int
