Abstract:
Using building information modeling (BIM) and Ecotect, this paper estimated carbon emissions during an office building’s life cycle. This building’s life cycle CO2emissions were divided into three parts: the construction, operation, and demolition stages. Among these, the statistics on the schedule of quantities were generated using BIM, and the energy consumption during the building’s operational stage was obtained using ECOTECT simulation. Sensitivity analysis was performed by changing several alternative parameters, to identify which parameter has more impacts on building performance. The paper demonstrated that (1) BIM and Ecotect are very helpful in estimating carbon emissions from a building’s life cycle, (2) the primary and effective measures to reduce the building’s CO2emissions in hot and humid climate should be arranged as follows: (a) within the limits of comfort, reducing the fresh air volume; (b) extending the indoor temperature range; (c) improving the thermal insulation performance of exterior windows, walls, and roofs; (d) exploiting natural ventilation during transition seasons, and (3) currently there are some limitations in performing LCA based on BIM and Ecotect.

Abstract:
Abstract: An audio-visual room is a room specifically designed to enable users to have enjoyable listening and watching video activities. This study was conducted to find out correlation between acoustics quality and acoustics materials in audio-visual room of Musi Charitas University. The methods of this research were descriptive method using ecotect simulation. The simulation revealed that: (1) The replacement of ceiling materials improve the quality of sound quality since it’s reverberation time approximately 47.9 ms.; (2) The replacement of ceiling materials caused the reverberation time (RT) becomes eligible, with the tolerance of about 10% of the standard 50 ms. Thus, it was not necessary to change the wall layers on the right and the left sides because the RT of the audio-visual room matched the speech RT (0.5-1.0s). Before the ceiling materials were replaced, the RT in the 250 Hz frequency was 0.41s. That is why it is important to decide to use the right absorption coefficient so that the reverberation time in the audio-visual room would be equal or within the range of 0.5-1.0s.Keywords: room acoustics quality, acoustics materials, Ecotect analysisAbstrak: Ruang audio-visual merupakan ruang yang dirancang dengan kualitas akustik yang baik yaitu mampu memaksimalkan efek perangkat audio-video sehingga mendukung kenikmatan pemakai dalam mendengarkan dan menonton pertunjukan audio-visual.

Abstract:
This research compared the traditional urban form of old Sana'a with the modern by applying three main basic principles of sustainability; 1. Form and density, 2. Walkability and connectivity and 3. Building energy. The method of inquiry was based on qualitative and quantitative methods and analysis using GIS, ECOTECT and Space Syntax modelling. The findings show that traditional form with its higher building density and compactness is a good model with regards to sustainable principles. Similarly, as to walkability index, traditional layout has higher rates of intersections and connected nodes and least angular changes with higher rates of integrations and choices in terms of Space Syntax properties than new layouts. Finally, the result of applying ECOTECT for urban solar analysis to confirm that the traditional pattern achieved sufficient values of solar access, exposure and shadows over different periods of the year. The overall results indicate that the traditional urban layout is more sustainable in terms of form and density, walkability and connectivity and urban solar energy than the new layouts.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to investigate the thermal performance of residential units in the Middle East Technical University (METU) Campus, Ankara. The study was conducted on the unoccupied residential units to eliminate the occupant interventions. There were only three unoccupied residential units in the study period, hence sample was considered as randomly selected. Case study units were triplex row houses and all physical characteristics were identical apart from their orientations. The thermal performance of these three residential units was assessed by compiling data on temperature and relative humidity from a number of their rooms on certain days in January and February. The study was conducted in winter months, because heating loads are more significant than cooling loads for energy consumption in Ankara
the measurement period was determined according to the coldest days of the year. In this context, the temperature and humidity charts were evaluated and one of the units was simulated using the software tool Ecotect v.5.20. The simulation temperature charts demonstrate similar behavior and trends as the measured temperature
although, it was approximately 4 0C lower than the measured temperature. The possible reason for such a difference may be the precision of the material properties. Six different calibrations were tested by changing the thermal properties of the envelope materials to obtain comparable results with the measured temperature readings. Based on the calibrated model, it was found that an increase in the U-value of the envelope materials did not have a significant effect on the simulated temperature charts.

Abstract:
The theme of this diploma thesis is the architectural study of the complex of the Farm of 3D Printers in Jaroslavice. The technology of 3D printing at its speed of development has far outweighed the response to its needs. It lacks a new systematically planned building typology corresponding to the requirements of farms. Farms adapt to the spaces. The main aim of the work is to introduce the possibility of turning the situation and adapting the premises to the farms. The thesis follows the urban design of the restructuring of the Jaroslavice landscape elaborated in the previous semester. The project respects established principles at microregion level in the form of emphasis on self-sufficiency, population integrity or the use of current technologies. The land is located on the southern part of Jaroslavice. There are 3 agricultural buildings located on the property, which until 2010, when a photovoltaic power plant was built, operated in conjunction with a neighboring agricultural court. After the power plant was built, the bonds were irreversibly broken. Buildings are in a very poor condition and mutual cooperation no longer works. The existing solution replaces and shows the possibility of using solar energy in a different way. Thus, the construction cartridge works with a hybrid typology where the 3D production area is combined with the maximum solar gains of the photovoltaic panels. Generative methods have been used to design dominantly either for finding a form in terms of achieving maximum solar gains or after verifying the efficiency of the structure. The proposal has several scenarios of possible development. There are four different stages of growth and the linkage of production areas. Printers are able to replicate themselves at such a rate that they can expect rapid growth. The proposal uses controlled growth methods to simulate complex development under the conditions of maximum solar radiation. Visual distraction and overheating are also solved by atypical sunsets on the exterior façade. Thin-film photovoltaic panels are used on the sun, so it is able to produce electricity besides the shield. The energy-efficient shape along with the great advantage of the layout solution, instead of the corridor disposition, is a basic cell on the central plan view. This makes it possible to control and operate more of the machines more efficiently. The production site forwards counts full robot automation.

Abstract:
A single comprehensive software package was developed for architects and building designers to optimize suitable location on various fac¸ades of urban buildings, where when photovoltaic modules were placed, would generate maximum energy. AutoCAD, the most widely used software by building architects, along with the ECOTECT, a building analysis tool, were used as primary tools in this software package. The process of solar analysis was automated with the help of customizing tools such as LISP, Visual Basic for Application and LUA scripts, creating a single plug-in for AutoCAD. The objective of this software package is to perform solar radiation analysis and obtain performance characteristics of the Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) system, taking into account shading and reflection from neighboring buildings, all within AutoCAD environment. In this project, we developed an urban building model in AutoCAD and performed the solar radiation analysis with the developed software tool. The performance characteristics were obtained and compared with the results from MATLAB model, previously presented [1]. The software package also incorporates provision to calculate energy from various commercially available solar modules.

Abstract:
In 2002, the Department of Energy (DOE) sponsored the world’s first university competition to design and build a completely solar powered house. One requirement of the competition was to perform simulations of the house’s photovoltaic, solar thermal, and space conditioning systems. By instituting this requirement, DOE is encouraging the building industry to apply the “whole-building design” approach to residences as a method of reducing financial and environmental operation costs of the building over its lifetime. This paper describes the simulation approach taken by the University of Colorado Solar Decathlon Team. In addition to describing the process of simulating a zero-energy residential building, the specific results of the simulations and related parametric studies are also presented. The design and analysis process provides a case study in the application of six different simulation tools for zero-energy building design. Energy-10 provided an environment for parametric analysis of building design options during the critical early design phase. However, it lacks the flexibility to model solar electric, solar thermal, and specialized HVAC systems. FChart gave valuable guidance early in the project on the impact of solar system sizing and performance. TRNSYS is extremely flexible in that it can simulate various solar systems and the interactions of virtually any thermal system commonly found in buildings. This flexibility is accompanied by the burden of complexity and a generic user interface that limits its use as a routine building design tool. Radiance, AGI32, and ECOTECT provided specialized simulation tools for the integration of the daylight delivery system, external shading devices, and the electric lighting system. Additional development is required to better integrate these design needs into general building energy analysis tools.
