Blaberoidea, comprised of Ectobiidae and Blaberidae, is the most speciose cockroach clade and exhibits immense variation in life history strategies. We analysed the phylogeny of Blaberoidea using four mitochondrial and three nuclear genes from 99 blaberoid taxa. Blaberoidea (excl. Anaplectidae) and Blaberidae were recovered as monophyletic, but Ectobiidae was not; Attaphilinae is deeply subordinate in Blattellinae and herein abandoned. Our results, together with those from other recent phylogenetic studies, show that the structuring of Blaberoidea in Blaberidae, Pseudophyllodromiidae <b>stat.

Diagnostic characters are given for Hemithyrsocera Saussure and Symplocodes Hebard. Aristiger Hebard and Parasymploce Hebard are synonymised with Hemithyrsocera. New species are: Hemithyrsocera alagara, H. brownwingae, H. lynnetteae, H. danumensis, H. nathani, H. ottei, H. persona, H. siebersi, and Symplocodes juxtaridleyi. Ceratinoptera annamensis Hanitsch is transferred to Symplocodes. Some known species of Hemithyrsocera and Symplocodes are redescribed. Hemithyrsocera and Symplocodes, which were previously in the Ectobiidae or Ectobiinae, are placed in the Blattellidae : Blattellinae.

Cockroaches are not considered typical plant pollinators, however, there are some exceptions to this rule. One of them is the South American species Amazonina platystylata, which is known for pollinating a dioecious shrub Clusia blattophila. This clusia is quite abundant on the Nouragues inselberg in French Guyana and is endemic there. In my research I was focused on the plant-animal communication. The aim of this thesis was to find possible behavioural response to the flower scent of clusia or to the compounds of flower scent, as clusia flowers differ in compounds of scent. Male flowers produ
