Purpose: To report a case of diabetic macular edema with prominent chorioretinal folds. Case Report: This study involved a 55-year-old male with untreated bilateral diabetic retinopathy who had undergone cataract surgery at another clinic. Following that surgery, diabetic macular edema rapidly exacerbated, accentuating marked cystoid macular edema and radial chorioretinal folds in the macula. Investigation of his medical history revealed that in addition to diabetes, he had uncontrolled hypertension and severe diabetic nephropathy. Introduction: Many systemic and ocular diseases cause macular edema (ME). Macular edema is seen in two primary forms; the first is diffuse thickening of the macula, and the other is a macula with a distinct petaloid (cloverleaf) appearance called cystoid macular edema. Macular edema has a known role in the reduction of visual equity, and many options have been proposed for the reversal of this condition. Methods: Articles on the effects of macular laser grid photocoagulation on diabetic macular edema (DME) or cystoid macular edema published between 2000 and 2022 were collected from PubMed, Goo

AbstractAIM: To compare spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) with fluorescein angiography (FA) in detecting macular edema in patients with uveitis and analyse discrepancies in the findings obtained by the two methods. METHODS: The study included 133 eyes from 117 patients with uveitis that had SD-OCT (RTVue-100/ Optovue) and FA (Topcon TRC 50DX) scans performed to detect or rule out macular edema. RESULTS: Macular edema was found in 57 (42.9%) of the 133 surveyed eyes. In 37 eyes (27.8%) macular edema was confirmed by both imaging methods. In 17 eyes (12.8%) macular edema was

ABSTRACT In the present study we have made a review of the relevant literature on pathogenesis and modern diagnostic methods for macular edema (ME) in uveitis. Macular edema is a typical non-specific complication of uveitis, one of the common causes of visual impairment. ME can be found in all types of uveitis. In 85% of cases of intermediate uveitis, the visual impairment is due to the development of cystoid macular edema. The macula is more rarely affected in panuveitis (35%), anterior (20-26%) and posterior (20%) uveitis. The etiological agent is of great importance for the course and treat

Diabetic macular edema is caused by retinal vasculature alterations. Diagnosis involves binocular slit-lamp biomicroscopy, FA leakage, and OCT data. Macular edema is a complex and multifaceted disease. Disruption of the blood-retinal barrier can lead to fluid accumulation in the macula. An anti-VEGF drug, intravitreal ranibizumab, inhibits blood vessel growth by interrupting VEGF's receptor interface. In our case, though the patient is denovo diabetic, chronic hypertension and hyperlipidemia are significant risk factors for macular edema. The patient is taking metformin, telmisartan, and atorv

Retinal vein occlusion (RVO) affects 16 million people worldwide, usually the middle-aged or older. It is caused by thrombosis, the clogging of the retinal veins, which may occur in the four branch veins – branch vein retinal occlusion (BVRO), or in the central vein, which is formed by the combination of the four branch veins – central vein retinal occlusion (CVRO). Left untreated (or if treatment fails), persistant RVO can lead to macular edema (ME), the swelling of thickening of the macula caused by leaking blood vessels.

Visual recovery following retinal reattachment surgery may be limited by a number of factors. Detachment of the macula is the most important of these, often yielding poor visual acuity after an anatomic success. Gross morphologic changes giving a poor visual result include macular pucker, cellophane maculopathy, cystoid macular edema, and subretinal fibrosis. Some cases with a normal appearing macula by ophthalmoscopy have reduced visual acuity, and these have been attributed to misalignment of photoreceptors, faulty regeneration of photoreceptors, or RPE atrophy (4,5,6).
