Abstract:
The decrease in camera and smartphone sizes, the increase in picture resolutions, and the convenient access to cameras have created tremendous increases in a large volume of images being captured daily. As computer technology continues to improve, smartphones keep getting smaller, mobile processing power continues to significantly increase, and dual- or quad-core processors are becoming more popular. This has created an increase in the availability of software on small portable devices that cannot only take photos, but also edit them directly on the device, including the use of the copy-paste feature. In this paper, we present the copy-cover image forgery detection that can be used to identify a photo, whether it was altered by copying a portion of the image over another portion of itself. We also extend the detection in parallel processing by utilizing a computer with multiple CPU cores and parallel enhancements to the algorithm. Experimental results show there are significant improvements in performance by taking advantage of parallelism. Changing the detection routines in parallel can scale and take advantage of computing hardware equipped with multiple processors and large amounts of memory.

AbstractHow can we teach Jewish history in a modern and effective way? In Hamburg, Germany, a school project called Geschichtomat tries to find an answer to that question. With the help of digital media, students explore their Jewish neighbourhood. This one-of-a-kind German program permits students to experience the Jewish past and present life in their hometown. During the project, students explore their neighbourhood to understand its historical figures, places, and events. This way they engage with Jewish life. Under the supervision of experts in the disciplines of history and media education, the students will: research, perform interviews with cultural authorities and contemporary witnesses, visit museums and archives, shoot and cut films, edit photos and write accompanying texts. Finally, their contributions are uploaded to the geschichtomat.de website. Little by little a digital map of Jewish life from the perspective of teenagers will take shape.

Abstract:
With the rapid development of Role-Playing Games (RPGs), players are now allowed to edit the facial appearance of their in-game characters with their preferences rather than using default templates. This paper proposes a game character auto-creation framework that generates in-game characters according to a player's input face photo. Different from the previous methods that are designed based on neural style transfer or monocular 3D face reconstruction, we re-formulate the character auto-creation process in a different point of view: by predicting a large set of physically meaningful facial parameters under a self-supervised learning paradigm. Instead of updating facial parameters iteratively at the input end of the renderer as suggested by previous methods, which are time-consuming, we introduce a facial parameter translator so that the creation can be done efficiently through a single forward propagation from the face embeddings to parameters, with a considerable 1000x computational speedup. Despite its high efficiency, the interactivity is preserved in our method where users are allowed to optionally fine-tune the facial parameters on our creation according to their needs. Our approach also shows better robustness than previous methods, especially for those photos with head-pose variance. Comparison results and ablation analysis on seven public face verification datasets suggest the effectiveness of our method.

Abstract:
Filtered faces are some of the most heavily engaged photos on social media. The vast majority of literature on selfies have focused on self-reported practices of creating and posting selfies and how subjects view themselves, but research on using filters and the kinds of looking filter provoke is underexplored. Part of a larger project, this analysis draws from a study using photo-elicitation techniques to discuss selfie filters with 12 focus groups, exploring the dominant discourses of cis-gendered looking within digital sociality. We explore how participants edit their selfies, imagine potential audiences, interact with, and perceive the filtering behaviors of others, asking what the “work” of filters is, visually and socially. We probe the kinds of discourses filters participate in, and their gendered and affective dimensions. Our focus groups indicate that when looking at the selfies of others there is often an a priori assumption that filtering has been applied, whether conspicuously or not, to the extent that visual tune-ups have become central to the genre itself. As such, we explore the ambivalence and anxiety about authenticity that filters produce, as well as the intense looking practices aimed at decoding the legitimacy of images. We posit that filters are part of a digital ecosystem that demands an intensification of looking practices, which produce and enhance specific forms of objectification directed toward selves and others within digital environments.

Full text
Abstract:
Methods for teaching contemporary makeup design involve drawing on paper, which requires considerable time and is difficult to edit. To change the makeup color, one must redraw their entire makeup design again, which is both inefficient and not environmentally friendly. Furthermore, design drawings are difficult to preserve. However, computer graphic design has not been used in the teaching of makeup design drawing; instead, learners rely on knowledge from professors and the experience they accumulate through practicing drawing on paper. Computer graphic design software allows users to experiment with various color designs, lines, and shading options before finalizing their makeup design. Thus, this study sought to employ such technology to improve upon conventional hand drawing practice techniques. The experiment was divided into a preliminary experiment and main experiment, where a two-stage questionnaire was conducted. In the preliminary experiment, the researchers compared the time required to complete the hand-drawn and computer-drawn makeup designs. The results revealed that the hand-drawn designs required almost double time than computer-drawn designs to complete. Additionally, time-lapse photography was taken during the computer drawing process; the photos were used to explain—to participants in a digital drawing group in the main experiment—the digital drawing makeup design procedures and the required operation time. The first stage of the main experiment comprised a brush selection experiment. The participants, 39 students from a cosmetology department, completed a Likert-scale questionnaire. They also performed item analysis to discuss and select drawing tools from a graphic design software, which met the requirements for makeup design pertaining to the eyebrow, eyeshadow, eyeliner, blush, nose contour, and lips. The software allowed the students to experiment with different colors in their design and immediately displays the results. In the second stage, an experiment on optimizing brush arrangements was performed by 10 experts, all of whom were teachers from the department of cosmetology, had at least 5 years of teaching experience, and had obtained a Level B (advanced level) Beauty Technician Certificate. Data from a Likert-scale questionnaire were analyzed and narrative analysis was conducted to determine the rating and evaluation priorities for standards pertaining to the eyebrows, eyeshadow, eyeliners, blush, nose contour, and lips. The requirement for design symmetry was achieved by using the mirror function of the software. This function was useful: it enabled students to complete their makeup design in approximately half the time. This study transformed the conventional learning method through interdisciplinary integration, established novel and innovative teaching models, and provides crucial insights into future research on improving teaching practice.

Yang, Lei. "Hole Transport Materials for Solid-State Mesoscopic Solar Cells." Doctoral thesis, Uppsala universitet, Fysikalisk kemi, 2014. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-232271.

Full text
Abstract:
The solid-state mesoscopic solar cells (sMSCs) have been developed as a promising alternative technology to the conventional photovoltaics. However, the device performance suffers from the low hole-mobilities and the incomplete pore filling of the hole transport materials (HTMs) into the mesoporous electrodes. A variety of HTMs and different preparation methods have been studied to overcome these limitations. There are two types of sMSCs included in this doctoral thesis, namely solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (sDSCs) and organometallic halide perovskite based solar cells. Two different types of HTMs, namely the small molecule organic HTM spiro-OMeTAD and the conjugated polymer HTM P3HT, were compared in sDSCs. The photo-induced absorption spectroscopy (PIA) spectra and spectroelectrochemical data suggested that the dye-dye hole conduction occurs in the absence of HTM and appears to be of significant importance to the contribution of hole transport. The PIA measurements and transient absorption spectroscopy (TAS) indicated that the oxidized dye was efficiently regenerated by a small molecule organic HTM TPAA due to its excellent pore filling. The conducting polymer P3HT was employed as a co-HTM to transfer the holes away from TPAA to prohibit the charge carrier recombination and to improve the hole transport. An alternative small molecule organic HTM, MeO-TPD, was found to outperform spiro-OMeTAD in sDSCs due to its more efficient pore filling and higher hole-mobility. Moreover, an initial light soaking treatment was observed to significantly improve the device performance due to a mechanism of Li+ ion migration towards the TiO2 surface. In order to overcome the infiltration difficulty of conducting polymer HTMs, a state-of-the-art method to perform in-situ photoelectrochemical polymerization (PEP) in an aqueous micellar solution of bis-EDOT monomer was developed as an environmental-friendly alternative pathway with scale-up potential for constructing efficient sDSCs with polymer HTMs. Three different types of HTMs, namely DEH, spiro-OMeTAD and P3HT, were used to investigate the influence of HTMs on the charge recombination in CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite based sMSCs. The photovoltage decay measurements indicate that the electron lifetime (τn) of these devices decreases by one order of magnitude in the sequence τspiro-OMeTAD > τP3HT > τDEH.

Abstract:
Abstract We present, a novel solution to focused ion beam (FIB) circuit edit, performed through the back and front surfaces of the same semiconductor device under test (DUT). This complementary dual-side FIB modification was performed at wafer level test, on a wafer piece, utilizing a coaxial photon-ion focused ion beam system. The DUT was found to have excessive Iddq leakage current due to a fault in a tri-state driver circuit, and was determined that two FIB edits were required to validate the proposed correction. Wafer level editing provides a more flexible approach to access the edit sites. We accessed one site via the front side circuitry of the DUT and the other through the backside silicon. A wafer piece was used for this dual-side edit to demonstrate relatively uncomplicated sample preparation for FIB access, and still allow wafer level probing afterward. The silicon was locally thinned by mechanical means over the specific die for backside FIB editing. Following the backside edit, the front side edit was performed, with minimal sample preparation. The modifications were validated following these edits, where Iddq and emission measurement were nominal.

Abstract:
A combined system consisting of a forecast model to predict ice drift and a viewer tool for ice management, IceMS were developed for providing ice information during the Arctic Coring EXpedition (ACEX). The main task during the multi international expedition ACEX was to retrieve sediment cores from the Lomonosov Ridge in the central Arctic Ocean. Large ice floes or thick ice that drifts towards the drill ship threaten the operation by forcing the drill ship from its position. The gathered ice information was imported into IceMS and presented to the ice management team. Risk analysis for continued drilling operation was made, and instructions of where the Icebreakers Oden and Sovjetski Soyuz should break ice in the drilling area were carried out. The software IceMS contains tools to update the ice conditions, history lines of ships and buoys, and includes the possibility to import track lines showing the ice drift forecasts. The key concept is the combined visualization of map data and up to date imagery from satellite, airplane photos and ice charts, together with results from an ice drift forecast model. It is possible to move the images in IceMS map according to the observed ice drift recorded by the buoys placed on drifting ice floes. An overlay to mark and edit polygons, e.g. representing areas with certain ice classification, can be shown on top of the images. The edit overlay can be exported to file, which enables sharing of judgments and forecasts to other units. The model to predict ice drift is a state of the art ice drift model that is developed for describing rapid changes such as circular motion with a period of about twelve hours called inertial motion. The ice drift forecast was based on weather forecast and measured ocean currents near the drill site. The combined system of IceMS and the forecast model is being further developed for supporting ice management teams on offshore platforms and other constructions in ice infested areas. Results from Ice Management will be presented, showing examples of how IceMS presented ice information and validation of the ice drift model during the Arctic Coring EXpedition (ACEX). New tools in IceMS will also be presented.

Abstract:
Abstract Novel Fabry Perot [1] fringe analysis techniques for monitoring the etching process with a coaxial photon-ion column [2] in the Credence OptiFIB are reported. Presently the primary application of these techniques in circuit edit is in trenching either from the front side or from the backside of a device. Optical fringes are observed in reflection geometry through the imaging system when the trench floor is thin and semi-transparent. The observed fringes result from optical interference in the etalon formed between the trench floor (Si in the case of backside trenching) and the circuitry layer beyond the trench floor. In-situ real-time thickness measurements and slope correction techniques are proposed that improve endpoint detection and control planarity of the trench floor. For successful through silicon edits, reliable endpoint detection and co-planarity of a local trench is important. Reliable endpoint detection prevents milling through bulk silicon and damaging active circuitry. Uneven trench floor thickness results in premature endpoint detection with sufficient thickness remaining in only part of the trench area. Good co-planarity of the trench floor also minimizes variability in the aspect ratios of the edit holes, hence increasing success rates in circuit edit.

Abstract:
Abstract Circuit edit techniques have been developed for silicon-on-insulator (SOI) devices using a coaxial photon-ion column. Novel trenching, navigation and milling methods, utilizing sub pico-Amp beam currents provide enhanced capability for editing devices with decreased geometries including buried (Box) thickness. Flat trenches 200x200µm were obtained using real time optical fringe monitoring with 125nm accuracy with 950nm λ and FIB bit map milling to adjust for parallelism to the ILD0. This bit map milling technique controlled the etch rate to maintain trench flatness by correlating the optical fringes to the bit map grayscales to vary the dwell time of the ion beam across the trench floor. Through highly accurate, CAD directed beam deflection control, beam placement accuracy in the sub 20nm regime can readily be accomplished, sub pA beam currents provide ultracontrolled etch rates and high aspect ratio (HAR) capability. Complete process definitions, techniques and results are reported. These techniques have proven successful in circuit edit below 90nm, and are expected to meet future technology circuit edit requirements down to 45nm.

Abstract:
Physically confined structures such as thin films and nanowires are becoming increasingly important in the energy and electronics sectors. This has resulted from the ability to tailor nanostructures to yield physical properties that are significantly different from bulk. The main focus of this work is to examine how physical confinement in one and two dimensions affects the phonon wave vector spectrum within the first Brillouin zone of silicon thin films and silicon nanowires. Dispersion curves as well as density of states (DOS) are obtained using the dynamical matrix approach and a harmonic approximation to the three-body environmentally-dependent interatomic potential (EDIP). It is also shown how these changes in the phonon spectrum for both films and wires affect the volumetric specific heat with respect to bulk. The simulations are carried out assuming ideal free-standing boundary conditions. It is shown that confinement effects on the phonon specific heat are only important below 5 mm for both silicon films and wires.

Abstract:
In this paper, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation is employed to compute thermal conductivity, dispersion curves and single mode relaxation times for bulk silicon. A newly-developed environment-dependent interatomic potential (EDIP) is used in our simulations. Using the Green-Kubo method, simulations of bulk silicon thermal conductivity are conducted using 216 to 4096 atoms. The effect of domain size is explored for different temperatures. Thermal conductivity predictions are found to converge to a bulk value for simulations containing 1000 atoms or more, even though the domain is much smaller than the phonon mean free path. A domain-size independent thermal conductivity is computed for temperatures ranging from 300 K to 1000 K and is shown to compare reasonably well with experimental data without the need for correction factors. The MD results are analyzed to obtain phonon dispersion curves along the [100] direction. Dispersion curves are also obtained using EDIP under a harmonic approximation and the classical dynamical matrix approach. The two sets of curves agree reasonably well. Furthermore, single mode phonon relaxation times are computed from the MD simulations. The trend can be curve-fit by third or fourth-order polynomials.

Abstract:
Perturbation theory is used to compute the strength of three-phonon and isotope scattering mechanisms in silicon using the Environment-Dependent Interatomic Potential (EDIP) without resorting to any parameter-fitting. A detailed methodology to accurately find three-phonon processes satisfying energy- and momentum-conservation rules is described. Bulk silicon thermal conductivity values are computed across a range of temperatures and shown to match experimental data well. It is found that about two-thirds of the heat transport in bulk silicon may be attributed to transverse acoustic modes. Effective relaxation times and mean free paths are computed in order to provide a more complete picture of the detailed transport mechanisms and for use with carrier transport models based on the Boltzmann transport equation.

Abstract:
Abstract The limitation of Focused Ion Beam (FIB) and all charged beam technologies are their insensitivity to the internal composition of materials relative to surface composition. For the most part, charged particle technology cannot provide the resolution at a depth necessary for locating traces either buried under passivation or through silicon. Before CMP planarization was utilized in the industry, it was possible to correlate passivation topography with buried metal traces and manually navigate to the correct x-y coordinates necessary for edit placement. There was still a level of difficulty and CAD navigation helped immensely. With the advent of CMP-planarized metallization, CAD navigation became a necessity, yet still required passivation topography for precise alignment. Current manufacturing processes now planarize all layers, including the passivation, increasing the overall difficulty of navigation. Techniques of drilling “seeker” holes or surface demarcation using FIB and lasers to establish reference fiducials are used extensively [1,2]. Seeker holes and optical-to-FIB image correlation have been useful workarounds for the navigation-related problems presented by advanced ICs. In this paper we will discuss the advantages of Real-Time Optical Imaging coaxially integrated into the FIB, providing non-invasive navigation to nodes for front side and backside applications.
