Abstract:
From the time of the "war on poverty" of 1964, to the era of "welfare reform" in 1990s, the federal welfare system underwent a change from a model that acted to protect citizens from the vagaries of the market economy to one that mandated their participation in the paid labor force. For a shift in policy of this magnitude to occur and be unquestioningly accepted by the public, a significant change also had to occur in how poverty and welfare issues were discussed and perceived over the intervening years. Using discourse analysis, this study examines how editorials in elite newspapers framed th

Editorial service is a privilege in many senses: editors have a much broader view of disciplinary practices than most of their colleagues; they see work from more institutions; and are privy to manuscripts in all states of fitness for publication. The spectrum of practice is eye-opening, and editors are placed in a position of stewardship, and often mentorship, that inevitably focuses attention on quality assurance and ethics (Lawrence 2003; Bulger 2004; Grieger 2005; Graf et al. 2007). Abstract The Third Reich was so abhorrent in so many ways that we tend to use it as an example for anything we wish to condemn. Thus, heads of state whom we do not like are referred to as “Hitlers,” and those who counsel conciliation are termed “Chamberlains.” Similarly, unethical research readily evokes comparisons with the Nazis. We may be too inclined, however, to draw parallels between the Nazi medical experiments conducted on prisoners in the death camps and the unethical research that is done today. In a sense, the Nazi experiments were incidental - sadistic sidelights in a uniquely evil

It can also be considered that media information by the nature of "media matters" is information of public interest, and media services are "services to the public". Media services contain information of public interest in the essential material sense because the editorial control of the media assesses that the public has the idea to (sa)know about certain information.
