Abstract:
This study explores the use of interactional1 metadiscourse by first language (L1) and second language (L2) English editorialists. The study uses Hyland’s (2019) model of metadiscourse to analyse 80 editorials published between 2020 and 2021 in The Guardian and The Jordan Times newspapers (40 from each newspaper). A mixed-method approach – adopting quantitative and qualitative measures – was used to analyse the data. The frequency of interactional metadiscourse resources was statistically examined to find similarities and differences (if any) between the two corpora. The analysis revealed a statistically significant difference in the use of interactional metadiscourse resources in the editorials of the two newspapers. For instance, L2 editorialists used fewer hedges in their editorials and more boosters than L1 editorialists. In addition, engagement markers were used the most by L1 editorialists. The study provides some implications for editorialists who write in English and recommendations for future research.

Abstract:
The study attempted to contrastively compare editorial headlines of two writing cultures, Filipino and American. The objectives of the study were identifying the types of editorial headlines employed in the Manila Bulletin (henceforth MB) and Washington Post (henceforth WP), determining the particular presupposition triggers evident in the two writing cultures, and providing pedagogical implications in light of the findings of the study. Sixty-two editorial headlines from MB and WP were utilized during the surge of the Omicron Variant, extracted from December 1, 2021 to January 31, 2022. The findings of the study revealed that American editorialists favored producing verbal headlines because of the low-culture attribution, directness and explicitness of American editorialists compared to its counterpart with its high-culture attribution, indirectness and implicitness of Filipino editorialists. As far as the usage of presupposition triggers are concerned in writing headlines, Filipino editorialists preferred to write existential presupposition triggers than what American editorialists did because Filipinos are perceived as reader-responsible, whereas Anglo-Americans are known as writer-responsible. Pedagogical implications and research directions were provided.

Abstract:
Using categorization of interactive metadiscourse, the present study attempted to contrastively compare editorials of two writing cultures, Filipinos and Americans. The objectives of the study were identifying the cultural features revealed by the Filipino editorialists and Anglo-American editorialists, and determining how the two writing cultures differ in the utilization of interactional metadiscourse resources in their editorials. A total of 180 editorials served as the corpus of the study; 90 from the Philippine Daily Inquirers (PDY) and 90 from the New York Times (NYT). The findings revealed that American editorialists significantly employed metadiscource resources as compared to Filipino editorialists specifically the employment of code glosses and transitional devices. This can be attributed to their writing confidence in utilizing their native language for Americans, while second language for Filipinos. Cultural, political, and social realities also play a critical role in the utilization of metadiscoursal resources in writing. The pedagogical implications were provided for future research directions.

Full text
Abstract:
Before 1913, typographical experimentations in French poetry are rare : around one per century. The quadruple event that was the republishing of Mallarmé's Coup de dés, from the publication of Cendrars's Prose du Transsibérien, that of Apollinaire's first calligrammes, and Marinetti's theoretical claims, leads, as of 1913-1914, to an unprecedented proliferation in the history of poetry : typography becomes a particularly fruitful tool of expressivity and of figuration. A large number of poets make use of it (Reverdy, Albert-Birot, Cocteau, Tzara, Arnauld, Dermée, but also Aragon, Éluard, Huidobro, Soupault, Nicolas Beauduin, Juliette Roche, Fernand Divoire…), before unanimously abandoning it for esthetic and technical reasons as of 1924.This thesis presents three aims : historical, first and foremost, by the identification of the “typographical moment” between 1913 and 1924 ; next, generical and genetic, by the establishment of a typology for the “typographical poem” based on fabrication criteria, as well as the development of an editorial genetics of typographical poems ; and finally, analytical, by the study of the typographical aspect of these poems in order to establish their poeticness. These three axes aim to develop the basis for a poetics of typography.A poetics of typography confirms the importance of a genetic study of works through the comparison of their different states (manuscripts, pre-editions, re-editions, translations, digitization) and offers a new approach, specific but decisive, to a poetic corpus (canonical and marginal) that is not strictly text-centered, without being fundamentally semiological : a typographical approach. In this, it leads us to reaffirm the importance of poetic production conditions (technical conditions, material, or socioeconomic) and allows to measure the scope of editorial intervention in the creative process

Abstract:
Technological innovation is usually associated with performance improvement in terms of products, processes or business meanings. In order to integrate technical solutions firms have to reorganize their business, redefining processes and reforming some decisions to reach higher performance levels. It is important to underline that benefits cannot be achieved only through the new technology adoption, being the result of a real assets reorganization; technology can be considered an enabler in value chain depicting. In the last decades data storage and processing need directs studies on how information and communication technologies (ICTs) affect internal and inter-firm organizational features. This research focus on mutual relation between the adoption of information and content management technologies and the organizational form. Even thought the great number of scientific contributions about the impact of technologies on organizational design dimensions and governance variables, a specific widening on cases where information is core business seems to be lacking; in fact, there are few studies analyzing the role of ICT on governance form definition with regard to specific industries where information or contents are exchange goods. For this reason printing and publishing industry has been chosen for the analysis and as a consequence digital asset management (DAM) systems are examined. The thesis main goal is the analysis of DAM systems role in printing and publishing firms organization. This study also enables supply chain mapping and activities and main processes identification as well as key players and theirs competences recognition. Theory building through case studies is the methodological approach used: ten of the more important and famous Italian firms are involved in the analysis. Organizational dimensions analyzed derive from literature review about the ICT role in organizations and from meetings with consultants and industry experts to consider industry distinctiveness. Comparing data, I identify some organizational dimensions associated with major use of DAM systems and formulate a theoretical framework which is the main contribution of this study. The framework points out how behavior and relationship formalization and knowledge spreading are organizational characteristics used by technology-oriented Italian printing firm as well as interpersonal exchange and skill standardization became their main coordination mechanisms. These dimensions represent organizational design keys for a effective introduction of DAM systems. My framework also analyzes the impact of a specific technology on organizations, highlighting which are main organizational parameters influenced by the use of DAM systems. Finally this framework can support management for a conscious choice of technology implementation suggesting them main benefits and technical problems.

Abstract:
This thesis focuses on the cultural exchanges between France and Italy in the fields of literary translation and publishing at the beginning of the 21st century. Its main goal is to study the various stages that precede, accompany and follow the publication of a work of French literature in Italy. Having placed our subject in the context of the main historical relations between the two countries in the field of literature, our analysis concentrates on three key moments: the choice of book, its translation and finally, its publication and reception. At the centre of our analysis is the knowledge that the tastes, canons, literary traditions and cultures of the two countries undoubtedly affect the reception of a work and the expectations of readers and critics. We will therefore take into consideration the role of editorial strategies throughout this process from the purchase of the copyright to paratextual decisions, i.e. the methods used to arouse readers’ interest or supply information. We will also examine the figure of the translator, the “driving force” in the text’s transition, as it is often their choice of language and style that provides the key to our understanding of it.Given that the publication and fortune of a literary work in a foreign country are the result of a complex process and a stratified accumulation of exchanges, stereotypes and multiple operations, our research has adopted analytical methods from a wide range of fields and applied them to a selection of novels published in Italy over the last ten years

Abstract:
This dissertation deals with the translation into Italian of selected passages from the Young Adult historical novel Apache – Girl Warrior by English author Tanya Landman. The book was chosen after contacting Italian publisher Settenove, dedicated to preventing gender-based violence through children's books and essays. The novel, set in the second half of the Nineteenth Century, tells the story of Siki, a fourteen years old Native American girl who decides to become a warrior in order to avenge her family, killed by the Mexicans. The story also deals with the contact and conflict between Native Americans and white settlers during the so-called Apache Wars. Chapter I deals with Apache's genre; it consists in an overview of the historical novel form and its diffusion, both in Italy and in the English-speaking world. Typical features and themes are also dealt with in this chapter. Chapter II is dedicated to Apache's author. Landman's other works and her mission as a writer are taken into account, as well as the inspirations that led her to writing the novel and the process of research on American history it involved. This chapter also includes a comparison between Tanya Landman's and Louise Erdrich's works. In chapter III, Apache is compared to two well-known novels for children and young adults, The little house on the prairie and Caddie Woodlawn; the aim of this is to demonstrate how widespread misrepresentations about Native Americans are in mainstream literature. Chapter IV analyzes the novel and serves as an introduction to its translation, focusing on its plot, themes, characters and language, while chapter V presents the passages I've chosen to translate; their translation can be found later in the same chapter. In chapter VI, I comment on the choices made during the translation process; translation problems are divided into culture-specific, stylistic, semantic and linguistic.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
This volume completes the valuable work of cataloguing carried out on the correspondence of Giuseppe Dessí conserved in the 'Alessandro Bonsanti' contemporary archive of Florence. The research, launched by Chiara Andrei in 2003 with the edition of the Corrispondenze familiari (Firenze University Press) and continued in 2009 by Francesca Nencioni with the publication of Lettere di amici e lettori (Firenze University Press), has its third result in this work by Francesca Nencioni, who has indexed the unpublished editorial and professional material, providing it with exhaustive references. The letters make it possible to trace a profile of the writer from his youth through to the 70s, illustrating the historic, political and cultural backdrop against which the events and activities of both his first and second profession developed. This casts light not only his complex professional career, but also on Dessí's collaboration with newspapers and journals, his relations with publishers and his contacts with the world of the mass media. Of particular importance is the appendix of unpublished letters, meticulously edited by Monica Graceffa, comprising the correspondence with two seminal journals of the 1930s and 40s «L'Orto» and «Primato». In the background are the figures of Bottai and Vecchietti and the complex coexistence between the intellectuals of the time and the regime.

Abstract:

Abstract:
A minor but frequent editorialist and contributor to the Fascist press over the 1930s, Odon Por reached the apex of his visibility when he joined Ezra Pound in the attempt to promote policies based on Major Douglas’s Social Credit and Silvio Gesell’s Stamp Scrip. Drawing on various archival sources, the chapter reconstructs Por’s international background, the political protections that allowed him to occupy comfortable positions in the regime’s institutions, and his ideological itinerary from revolutionary syndicalism to guild socialism and from here to a fascism which was more imagined than real. His case is a typical illustration of the appeal that the Italian corporatist model held for anti-capitalist movements in inter-war Europe.

Abstract:
The article presents the role of folklore archives in society. It proposes to begin by specifying the premises that preceded the appearance and institutionalization of these settlements in European and national culture. The interest in the knowledge and valorization, first editorially, of the oral tradition manifests itself late, precisely in the XVI century. The first, who turn their attention to the recording and conscious collection of folklore, are the philosophers and literati from the West and Northern European countries. The openings offered by the discovery of the value of popular creation (historical, scientific, artistic) amplifies the interest of researchers on the European continent, and not only, for the collection, research and promotion of folklore, strengthening the conviction that it can serve as a source of knowledge of the past, but also as inspiration that can find its valorization in cult creation. Being aware of the importance of the historical and identity dimension of culture based on oral tradition and of its fragility in the perspective of time, the folklore heritage collection becomes a practical necessity of the XX century, which determined the creation of folklore archives.
