ABSTRACT EDTA, a common chelating agent, is becoming a major organic pollutant in the form of metal-EDTA complexes in surface waters, partly due to its recalcitrance to biodegradation. Even an EDTA-degrading bacterium, BNC1, does not degrade stable metal-EDTA complexes. In the present study, an ABC-type transporter was identified for possible uptake of EDTA because the transporter genes and the EDTA monooxygenase gene were expressed from a single operon in BNC1. The ABC-type transporter had a periplasmic-binding protein (EppA) that should confer the substrate specificity for the transporter; t

The interaction of EDTA with calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) and its impact on the sorption of U(VI) by C-S-H in the presence of EDTA at varying concentrations has been investigated under N2 and ambient atmosphere. The solid phase characterization was performed by FTIR, XRD and TGA measurements and the uranium concentration in solution has been determined by alpha-spectroscopy. At increased EDTA concentrations ([EDTA] > 0.1 M) calcium is complexed and extensively extracted from the solid resulting in a quantitative dissolution of the Ca(OH)2 phase and deterioration of C-S-H. Environmental Context. Aquatic life requires access to sufficient nutrients and trace metals in the surrounding waters. Measuring the speciation (in solution or precipitated, free ionic or complexed) of trace metals is a traditional procedure to assess the potential of waters for life. Iron, an important nutrient, is relatively insoluble, and metal–ligand complexes are required to keep the iron in solution and bioavailable. Sunlight often degrades these metal–ligand complexes, and the subsequently released iron can outcompete other (trace) metals for their ligands. A ‘domino’ effect on weaker

As a prominent chelator, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) has been well-known to give stable complexes with various metals including Ln ions, resulted in forming (EDTA−4H)4− anion by deprotonation; over 100 kinds of Ln-EDTA complexes have hitherto

This gender binary further intersects with other binaries such as those of light and dark, and of god and giant. Abstract:
Abstract Atmospheric corrosion continues to be a significant monetary problem. Particularly in colder climates, such as Alaska, the complexity of atmospheric corrosion increases and additional factors make it difficult to estimate the corrosive phenomena. Despite the topic's significance, there exists a noticeable knowledge gap regarding the corrosivity of metals in cold regions in general. This lack of data stands in stark contrast to Alaska's growing importance on the global stage, particularly its potential as a pivotal point for cargo, strategic military location, refueling hub, and locati

Abstract In this study, dense yttria coatings are produced by conventional flame spraying using a yttrium ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (Y-EDTA) complex as the feedstock powder. By adjusting spray parameters, the organic components in the EDTA are completely decomposed and only crystalline Y2O3 phases are found in the deposits. Compared to atmospheric plasma sprayed Y2O3, Y-EDTA coatings produced by reactive flame spraying have better surface morphologies with fewer microcracks and are obtained at lower cost.

Abstract:
Rhizoferrin, a siderophore produced by Rhizopus arrhizus, has been shown in previous studies to be an outstanding Fe carrier to plants. However, calculations based on stability constants and thermodynamic equilibrium lead to contradicting conclusions. In this study a kinetic approach was employed to elucidate this apparent contradiction and to determine the behavior of rhizoferrin under conditions representing soil and nutrient solutions. Stability of Fe3+ complexes in nutrient solution, rate of metal exchange with Ca, and rate of Fe extraction by the free ligand were monitored for rhizoferrin
