Full textThere is a tendency to construct a negative representation of adolescence based upon ideas which doesn’t have support in evidence. To overcome that, the goal of the present study is explore the social representations of adolescence held by teenagers of 4th grade from a public school in Cusco-Perú. For this purpose, the qualitative study was developed with a content analysis and phenomenological approach within a cultural psychology framework. Main findings reveal that adolescence has been defined through 3 perspectives: positive, negative and neutral or "a stage of change" In addition, participants express that the experience of being an adolescent is the product of interaction with the environment, culture and education. Likewise, the social representation of "the good adolescent" and the "the bad adolescent" emerged, in which exploration emerges as the central core within both social representations. Participants prefer to identify themselves as "adolescents of the good path", because they are focused on their studies and their future. Finally, social representations of adolescence are linked with the importance of the adult world, the peer’s influence, being misunderstood, impulsivity, etc.

Full textRealiza un diagnóstico de la educación sexual de los estudiantes del cuarto y quinto grado de educación secundaria de las instituciones educativas del distrito de Juliaca y plantear una propuesta de mejora. La información fue recolectada a partir de un instrumento que consta de 34 items en los que se analizó la capacitación en temas sexuales, la responsabilidad, los conocimientos de métodos anticonceptivos y la libertad sexual. Se plantea, además, una propuesta de educación sexual integral, que supone un plan con acciones educativas que involucren a padres, maestros y adolescentes.

Full textThis study aimed to explore and describe the development of the life project in a group of teenage mothers who decide to resume their schooling. Therefore, from a qualitative approach, 8 semi-structured interviews were conducted with young mothers between the ages of 17 and 19 belonging to a low socioeconomic sector in Lima. The results show that authoritative or passive communication within families, perceiving sexuality as a taboo subject and repression around the couple and friends, are possible predictors of an unplanned pregnancy; which occurred in all participants of this study. Also, early motherhood will accelerate the process of maturation and sense of responsibility in young women, by having a dependent child; so the resumption of the life project will be viable from the support of their families and conceiving education as a central element for its elaboration.

Full textThe aim of this project was to determine the effect of the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) on the degree of knowledge and attitudes of obstetricians in relation to sexuality education for adolescents, through the implementation of the “ICT and Sex Education". The study was pre-experimental (pretest and posttest) and had the support of the III Regional College of Obstetricians, Lima - Callao. The sample consisted of 25 obstetricians and the instruments used were a questionnaire for knowledge of 25 items to measure the degree of knowledge (biological-reproductive dimension) and a Likert scale of 40 items to measure the attitude of obstetricians (Dimensions socio- affective and ethical-moral), both based on the "Guidelines for Comprehensive Sexuality Education", Ministry of Education and validated during the process. In analyzing the results it was observed an increase in the degree of knowledge of obstetricians averaged 14 points at an average of 16.72 points (out of 25 possible points), with significant variation tested with Student's t test (p = 0.02). Regarding the attitude of obstetricians, it was observed that the two dimensions that formed the Likert Scale was an increase in cases with high attitude (from 12% to 52% in the socio-emotional dimension and 8% to 56% the moral-ethical) dimension, with significant variation demonstrated by the chi-square test (p = 0.002 and p = 0.000157, for both dimensions, respectively). It concludes that "ICTs and Sex Education" program has a positive effect on the level of knowledge and attitude of obstetricians regarding Sex Education of Adolescents, although more research is needed not only obstetricians but with other health professionals and teachers. Describe una de las funciones del Ministerio de Educación (MINEDU) que es la de Tutoría y Orientación Educativa que incluye las áreas de tutoría, educación sexual, promoción para una vida sin drogas, los derechos humanos y la convivencia escolar democrática, por eso el MINEDU elaboró el documento de Lineamientos Educativos y Orientaciones Pedagógicas para la Educación Sexual Integral para profesores y tutores de la Educación Básica Regular, a fin de que los docentes desarrollaran acciones pedagógicas como acción formativa presente en todo el proceso educativo, que contribuyera con el desarrollo del conocimiento, capacidades y actitudes de los estudiantes, para que puedan valorar y asumir su sexualidad en el marco del ejercicio de sus derechos y el de los demás. Es en esta tarea formativa que las(os) docentes cumplen un rol muy importante en relación al desarrollo de acciones pedagógicas pertinentes para el autoconocimiento, la autoestima, el respeto mutuo, la autonomía y la toma de decisiones, en la formación integral de los estudiantes. Por esto es que la investigación va dirigida a verificar los niveles de conocimientos y actitudes sobre la sexualidad que tienen los alumnos del 5º de Secundaria así como establecer la influencia que ha ejercido la implementación de los Lineamientos Educativos y Orientaciones Pedagógicas para la Educación Sexual Integral.

Full textThe objective of this qualitative study is to explore and describe the perception of students that recently made the transition to secondary school. Twenty students from two different public schools in Lima were interviewed (one offered only secondary education and the other one primary and secondary). An intentional sampling method was implemented and in order to triangulate information a focus group with students from last grade of primary school and interviews with teachers of first grade of secondary education were also conducted. The qualitative analysis provided several findings such as the difference between the expectations that the students had when entering secondary school and what they felt in reality. Students have high educational aspirations, although in reality they found bullying in their classes and violence between schools. Furthermore, teachers have lower academic and behavioral expectations of their students given they are attending the afternoon shift. On the other hand, the simultaneous occurrence of the transition to secondary school and adolescence brings several social changes for the students. They have to play a new role in the family and school, assuming more responsibilities. Their significant adults such as parents and teachers play an important role in this stage. Nevertheless, this study shows that they suddenly decrease the support and supervision over the adolescents. Because of that, the communication between home and school also decreases. This study suggests recommendations for the classroom, school and family to support the students in this transition to secondary. Keywords: Transitions, Secondary School, Adolescence, Public Schools

Full textCommunity Psychology is concerned, among other issues, in promoting the integral development of people in vulnerable situations. Otherwise, the participation of female adolescents in crimes and their processes of detention are psychosocial problems that require a differentiated intervention to achieve their community reinsertion, which must include the gender perspective. This research describes and differentiates conceptions of being a woman, in adolescents and educators of the Centro Juvenil de Mujeres (CJM), a Girls Detentions Center in Peru; thus reflecting on the image of being a woman promoted by the educators. A qualitative methodology was used. Discussion groups and in-depth interviews were conducted for girl offenders in detention and their educators. We found that both adolescents and educators have conceptions about being a woman related to a traditional gender role; which is linked to the educator’s role since they promote this perspective through the rehabilitation and community reinsertion actions they developed in the CJM.

Full textThis study aims to explore the notions of sexual risk behaviors [SRB] and its relationships with future expectations and sexual education in adolescents from a public school from Lima, the capital city of Perú. To achieve this goal, a semistructured interview protocol was developed and then it was applied to 12 adolescents, 6 men and 6 women. Interviews thematic analysis led to identify 7 categories: future expectations, risk behavior, sexual risk behavior, adolescent’s sexuality, relationship between sexual risk behavior and future expectations, gender stereotypes in sexual relationships and sex education. Results indicate that there is a relationship between SRB and future expectations since adolescents have a concern about the consequences of SRB, specifically pregnancy during adolescence. This concern is more visible in female adolescents who believe that a pregnancy could prevent them from achieving their future plans. In addition, sexual education offered at school is very limited, not accomplishing its duty of educating adolescents in prevention of SRB.

Full textLa evolución del gasto público en nutrición, salud y educación de niños, niñas y adolescentes en el período 2000–2005 no ha seguido una tendencia similar al crecimiento del PBI para el mismo período en el Perú. Estos importantes rubros de la política pública en infancia y adolescencia no han sido fuertemente atendidos con los mayores recursos recaudados por el Estado, en particular el de nutrición que tuvo cada vez menos recursos del gasto público en proporción al crecimiento que experimentó el PBI en dicho período de estudio. Con las cifras encontradas en el SIAF se ha construido la estructura del gasto público en los rubros antes señalados,según las funciones presupuestales de gasto, lo que ha establecido una base que permite proponer mejoras en la política pública de formación de capital humano desde la infancia.

Full textOne of the main problems that Peruvian schools face is the high rates of school violence in public and private educational institutions in our country. Reason why, being able to identify which are the factors that trigger or mitigate this problem in spaces where an adequate climate for the learning of children and adolescents must be ensured is fundamental. Thus, the present study aims to identify the factors associated with school violence in Peruvian adolescents and to analyze the heterogeneous effects by gender on the types of school violence they suffer within the school. To achieve the objectives, a non-linear logit model is used to model the probability that an adolescent suffers from school violence and to identify the associated factors. Furthermore, a multivariate probit is used to analyze the factors with the three types of violence simultaneously.

Full textIn 2016, the New Basic Education Curriculum was approved, which includes Comprehensive Sex Education (ESI). This, together with the gender approach, generated opposition, however, ESI is not new in Peru. Rather, what is striking is the new approach that the policy has taken because its precedent - the ESI Pedagogical Guidelines and Orientations approved in 2008 - was a policy with a conservative approach and limited scope. In this sense, it is interesting to ask what factors have allowed the change in ESI policy because there is little research on this policy in Peru and, in addition, there is an open agenda on the subject in the Latin American region due to the growing opposition of conservative groups against these policies. The research will use Campbell's theory (2014), therefore, four of the hypotheses correspond to the models proposed by the author-politician, inertial, artifactual and cognitive. Two more hypotheses will also be tested - one referring to the importance of argumentation and the other to the advocacy coalition model. The design to be used is qualitative of a single case and the process tracing methodology will be used to adequately contrast the hypotheses and understand in detail each moment of the period 2007-2017.

Full text-- In this research work we have reviewed existing national and international sex education. The study aims to identify strategies to improve the coverage and dissemination of programs for pre-marriage sex education of adolescents 15 to 18 years in the province of Lima. To obtain the data was applied to a survey, data analysis was performed by the multivariate method, using the factorial analysis method was selected variables highest score in each group also use planning techniques Strategic. The analysis has identified that adolescents do not know about the spread of sex education programs, and that the guidance they receive in mathematics and natural sciences or psychology. We conclude that the coverage and dissemination of programs fails to educational institutions by 90%, it is determined that one of the strategies is the massive participation of parents, teachers, professionals of different specialties and college students in recent years specialty.

Full textThis work is based on the consideration that society needs democratic attitudes, practices and behaviors and that democratic participation requires a person to have certain competencies. Educational work on these skills needs to be done in order to improve people's behavior in this regard. Participation is focused both on individual and community development. Participation in community means action and reaction; there is necessarily interaction with others. From this view arises creating a methodological approach to educate and work on the skills necessary to participate. Working on the competencies from the educational perspective implies also a change in the teaching methods and didactic techniques. Is participating that one learns and acquires the skills to participate. The intervention, applied to the first and second grades of secondary education (ESO), is focused on the teenage stage and its main goal is to design and evaluate a program of activities to educate the competencies required to participate. The methodology derives from the constructivist paradigm of participatory approach (social-critical) based on Critical Theory. It performs an action research and participative evaluation, this being the main methodological strategy. The evaluation is done using the CIPP model (Context, Input, Process and Product) by Stufflebeam (1987). The main result of the research program has been presented in the thesis named "Learning to participate" and constitutes a methodological intervention, with a flexible but systematic program of activities to work on the skills to participate and interact with teenagers. It also aims to enhance the skills already present in the adolescents and enhance their role in the learning process. The program was designed to be used in mandatory secondary education institutions but is useful in any educative context with teenagers. The program has proved the development of social-emotional skills and participation abilities on the teenagers involved and has been stablished on the secondary schools where the investigation was made.

Full textThe social identity is one of the fundamental components for the formation and development of the adolescents, despite of this there are few studies that we can find about identity in adolescents of high Andean regions, much less a proposal that reinforces the social identity. National and international studies show that the work has focused on the identity issue from its implication in the ways of life, as a tool in the educational model in general or through its analysis of discourse and representation, but very few analyze and propose its role as part of learning strategies. After a review of psychoeducational theories in relation to identity and learning, we decided for the model of Merrill and Van Merrienboer that rely on the cognitive-constructivist paradigm, this is complemented by the proposals of authentic constructivist learning of Badia and Monereo. With all this we propose a model that we have called "Principles to strengthen the social identity in cultural landscapes", with this we designed a learning module with 4 transversal components; social identity, history, territory and culture, and we validated them with 6 multidisciplinary experts. The results showed us that the learning module will reinforce the social identity in the indicated population.

Full textThe main goal of this study was to examine the relationship between parenting styles and academic performance, mediated by academic self-efficacy. The sample was composed by high school students of Lima-Peru (N = 163; M = 13.99 years old, DE = 1.60; 50.3% male). The instruments were My Parents (Merino, 2009) and the Academic Performance Self-Efficacy Scale (Cartagena, 2008). Academic performance was measured by using the average grade for the first term of 2016. Our results showed a positive and significant relationship between Parental Commitment (a dimension of parenting styles), academic performance and academic self-efficacy, but the mediation model failed. Finally, we discuss these findings for future research.

Demuestra los conocimientos y actitudes de las adolescentes antes y después de la Implementación de un Programa Educativo para la Prevención de Abuso Sexual en el Colegio Juan XXIII de la cuidad de Cajamarca, Perú. Realiza un estudio de tipo cuasiexperimental, en el que se asignaron 173 adolescentes del primero, segundo y tercer año; a quienes se las comparó con 173 adolescentes con características similares en edad y grado de instrucción que no participaron en el programa. La instrucción fue realizada mediante charlas educativas desarrolladas a razón de 40 minutos cada una, durante 4 días. Los adolescentes llenaron dos cuestionarios antes y 30 días después de la intervención, los cuales fueron respondidos en forma anónima y autoadministrada por cada adolescente. Los cuestionarios evaluaron datos demográficos, conocimientos y actitudes en abuso sexual. El cuestionario de conocimientos incluyó 20 preguntas cerradas, abierta y de alternativas múltiples. Se utilizó la escala de Likert para el cuestionario de actitudes, constituido por 32 ítems de tres categorías cada una. Las pruebas Studen (t), el Chi cuadrado y el RR con un IC 95% fueron utilizados para el análisis de datos. Encuentra que las participantes del programa demostraron mayor conocimiento de prevención de abuso sexual en relación con las adolescentes que no participaban (12 y 6. puntos). El aumento del conocimiento fue de 5 a 12 puntos, los cuales se incrementan de acuerdo al año de estudio, y las actitudes se modificaron de 67 a 68 puntos.

Full textThe research was aimed to analyze the differences in the level of family dysfunction in adolescents in senior year in both a private and a public school in the district of La Molina. Also, to determine if there are differences according to gender, the presence of parents in the home in the levels of dysfunction. The sample consisted of 214 students between 15 and 19 years old, 106 of them were from a public school and 107 from a private one. Family Dysfunction Inventory (IDF) was used to determine the level of family dysfunction. The results showed that there are significant differences in the level of dysfunction according to the school of origin and by gender, however, no difference was found for the presence of one or both of the parents at home.

Full textThe aim of this research was to describe the features in the mentor-student relationship through the report of the actors of a public highschool of Lima, to explore the characteristics of the relationship and provide information in a topic that has not been investigated in Peru. To this purpose, semi-structured interviews were conducted to four mentors and six students in fourth grade, and also the Annual Plan of Mentoring 2013 was revised. Results from the analysis of interviews and PAT2013, identified four profiles of mentors. This typology of mentor is associated with two types of relationship, according to their characteristics. When the mentor is authoritative, there is perception of support and trust in the relationship, which provides support in the academic, emotional and family areas. However when the mentor is repressive- authoritarian, permissive-indulgent and permissive-negligent, there is a rift in the relationship because the student does not perceive support and trust. It was also found that a flexible methodology and focused on the needs of students, also contributes to the relationship between the two actors. Therefore, it is concluded that during adolescence, the mentor- student relationship is established as a formative aspect that contribute to the optimal development of the adolescent in its multiple dimensions. It concludes with recommendations and opportunities for future research.
