Abstract:
The measurement of rate of returns is central to the profitability analysis of educational investments. Literature suggests that the ex-ante approach of measuring the perceptions of the beneficiaries is a reliable indicator of returns to education. The present study estimates the perceived rate of returns to higher education for undergraduate students in UAE. Respondents were asked to provide estimates of future expected earnings with and without higher education. The study indicates that the Emiratis and non-Emirati students differ significantly in the estimates of perceived rate of returns. The findings of this study offer strategic insights on the economic considerations in the higher education enrollment process in the UAE. It also emphasizes the need for better counseling among the Emirati school students regarding the importance of higher education and return to higher education.

Abstract:
Family education investment is an important mechanism that affects the stratification of urban and rural education in China. This article analyzes the urban-rural gap in China’s family education investment and focuses on comparing the two levels of family education expenditure and education participation. The study found that the total expenditure for children ‘s education in urban households during compulsory education is higher than that in rural households, and the gap between the two in terms of extra-school tutoring expenditure is even greater. In terms of family education participation, the education participation behavior of urban families among children of compulsory education stage is more frequent, and the counseling time is longer than that of rural families. Rural families’ care for their children’s life and learning is significantly weaker than urban families. The comparative study of urban and rural family education investment in this article is helpful to understand the formation of urban and rural education inequality, and to grasp the specific differences between urban and rural family children’s education investment in compulsory education stage.

Abstract:
The purpose of the current study is to make a detailed introduction to the Irish education system and to come up with some implications latter through comparing it with the Turkish education system. Accordingly, the literature was reviewed. A general introduction was made to Ireland and its education system was examined considering its goals, structure and process dimensions. Similar and different aspects of the Irish and Turkish education system were discussed, and various suggestions were developed. The Irish and Turkish education systems have many similarities in terms of having a centralized structure, students’ obligation to take a general exam at the end of secondary education, financing of schools mostly by public resources, dominance of external inspection at schools and control of higher education by higher education councils such as YÖK and HEA. On the other hand, these two systems differ from each other in terms of administrative structure of schools, time of compulsory education, secular structure of education, rights to send children to whichever school they wish and to educate children at home, financial resources allocated for education, appointment of school principals and participation of stakeholders in administration. As a result of the comparison of these two education systems, it can be said that more opportunities should be provided for stakeholders to take part in administrative processes, psychologists should be included in inspection units, more emphasis should be put on self-assessment and more guidance and counseling should be offered to students so that the education system in Turkey can develop more.

Khandelwal, Stutee, Sarah E. Zemore, and Anke Hemmerling. "Nutrition Education in Internal Medicine Residency Programs and Predictors of Residents’ Dietary Counseling Practices." Journal of Medical Education and Curricular Development 5 (January 1, 2018): 238212051876336. http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/2382120518763360.

Abstract:
Background: Although physicians are expected to provide dietary counseling for patients with cardiovascular (CV) risk factors such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and obesity, nutrition education in graduate medical education remains limited. Few studies have recently examined nutrition education and dietary counseling practices in Internal Medicine (IM) residency training. Objectives: To conduct a contemporary assessment of outpatient nutrition education in IM residency programs in the United States, identify predictors of residents’ dietary counseling practices for CV risk factors, and identify barriers for educators in providing nutrition education and barriers for residents in counseling patients. Design: Cross-sectional anonymous surveys were completed by IM program directors (PDs) and residents throughout the United States. Linear regression was used to examine the association between the amount of nutrition education received and the number of instruction methods used by the residents and frequency of residents’ dietary counseling for patients with CV risk factors. Key Results: A total of 40 educators (PDs and ambulatory/primary care PDs) and 133 residents across the United States responded to the survey. About 61% of residents reported having very little or no training in nutrition. Nutrition education in residency, both the amount of education (β = 0.20, P = .05) and the number of instruction methods used (β = 0.26, P = .02), predicted frequency of residents’ dietary counseling practices independent of nutrition education in medical school, which was also significantly associated with counseling (β = 0.20, P = .03). Residents’ total fruit and vegetable intake likewise predicted frequency of counseling (β = 0.24, P < .001). Low perceived faculty expertise was a major barrier for educators and was associated with lower level of provided nutrition education ( r = −.33, P = .04). Low resident and low perceived clinic preceptors’ interests in nutrition were also associated with lower frequency of residents’ dietary counseling ( r = −.19, P = .04; r = −.18, P = .05). Conclusions: The provision of nutrition education in IM residency programs and IM residents’ dietary counseling for patients need to be systematically assessed nationally. This study’s preliminary findings suggest that multimodal nutrition education in IM residency and better resident dietary habits are associated with higher frequency of dietary counseling for patients. Lack of faculty expertise and low faculty and resident interests in patient counseling need to be addressed perhaps by mandating nutrition education in graduate and continuing medical education.

Abstract:
In this paper, the education programs offered to students with special needs in the online distance education format during the Covid-19 pandemic period in TRNC and the online family guidance/counseling services offered to their families were evaluated from the perspective of the families. In the study, the data obtained follow a parallel course with other studies in the literature. In studies on the academic support provided by families for children and family participation in learning processes, the relation between family involvement at home and at school and academic success was revealed, which is also the case in this study. In addition, family involvement was determined as an essential predictor of the school success of students, and it was emphasized that increasing family participation would help education reach higher standards and students encounter alternative opportunities.

Abstract:
The nowadays continuously expansion of the market for higher education services puts a high pressure on the management of such institutions. Universities are trying to keep their position on the market by applying theories and practices that have traditionally been used by the business environment. This paper proposes to adapt such a practice to higher education institutions. This is the strategy of backward vertical integration. We understand this by highlighting the possibilities that higher education institutions have to take over some of the activities carried out in high schools. Starting from the experience of a project to whose implementation the authors participated, the paper describes how the counseling and vocational guidance activities addressed to high school students can be carried out by the higher education institutions.

Abstract:
By offering information, counseling, and tutoring, college outreach programs attempt to smooth the path between high school and higher education for at-risk students. But do these program work? This paper uses longitudinal data from the Education Longitudinal Study to construct two quasi-experiments to assess the effectiveness of college outreach. The first compares outreach program participants with a propensity score matched sample of program non-participants to measure the effects of targeted college outreach programs. The second assesses the effects of school-wide college outreach programs by comparing students in school-wide outreach high schools with students in a matched sample of high schools that offer no formal outreach. The results suggest that targeted outreach programs do little to change the educational experiences of participating students. However, there is limited evidence to suggest that school-wide outreach programs may have modest “spill-over” effects, improving the educational outcomes of relatively unengaged students at participating schools.

Abstract:
A family counseling intervention grounded in systemic family therapy was conducted in a Title I school-based setting with ( N = 48) kindergarten through sixth-grade student-clients and their primary caregivers. Families’ perception of family communication and satisfaction on the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale-IV was investigated to determine changes in the percentile score at three benchmarks. A repeated measure analysis of variance indicated a statistically significant difference over time in caregivers’ perception of family communication and satisfaction after 5 and 10 weeks. There was no difference in relationship to gender. School-based family counseling programs can contribute to improved family communication and satisfaction. School-based counselors can partner with institutions of higher education to provide free and accessible counseling for students and families in the greatest need.

Abstract:
Despite the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision ending school segregation in 1954, African American children and other children of color still experience severe and adverse challenges while receiving an education. Specifically, Black and Latino male students are at higher risk of being placed in special education classes, receiving lower grades, and being suspended or expelled from school. Although adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and the negative outcomes associated with experiencing them, are not specific to one racial or ethnic group, the impact of childhood adversity exacerbates the challenges experienced by male students of color at a biological, psychological, and sociological level. This article reviews the literature on how ACEs impact the biopsychosocial development and educational outcomes of young males of color (YMOC). A strengths-based perspective, underscoring resilience among YMOC, will be highlighted in presenting strategies to promote culturally responsive intervention with YMOC, focused professional development, and advocacy in the school counseling profession.

Abstract:
Sekolah Islam Intan (SII) Surabaya is one of the institutions of early childhood education which has three types of education, playground, kindergarden, and daycare. Children who attend daycare at SII spend up to 54 hours a week. Children who are entrusted in daycare have a higher susceptibility to disease transmission. The long duration of children's activities at the school, the habit of closing the mouth using the palm of the hand and immediately resume other activities when coughing, as well as the lack of habits and the application of clean and healthy living behaviors can increase the chance of ARI transmission to children. The purpose of this counseling to increasing awareness of clean and healthy living behaviors, as well as teaching cough ethics as prevention of ARI transmission. Counseling is effective enough to change the knowledge, beliefs, and behavior of the SII education community in dealing with mild A, as well as efforts to disseminate information by reminding other community members to follow the WHO standard precautions against ARI by participants

Abstract:
In recent years, some states in the United States have enacted policies that grant some higher education benefits—primarily in-state resident tuition eligibility—to certain undocumented students. While in existence since 2001, little is known of the role of high school institutional agents in implementing such policies. This study describes the efforts of seven New York City high schools to educate their undocumented students about such educational benefits within their college choice process. It details five categories of activities that institutional agents developed to address undocumented students’ college choice needs. These college choice activities included: one-on-one counseling, presentations, outreach, scholarship, and curriculum. This study also examined the effects of institutional demographics on the process of educating undocumented students about their college choice. It discovered that those high schools that had higher percentages of undocumented students had a greater number of college choice activities and had organized their implementation in such a way as to make information more available to this student population. This article concludes with a section that is devoted to implications for research and practice.

Abstract:
The technological revolution, the ever-changing economic and political conditions, and the resulting changes in life and work environments impede career planning for young people and pose challenges for career counselors in career orientation. Nowadays, career counselors have to not only assist students in planning and implementing individual, social, academic, and career goals, but they must also help the school community to ensure the effective functioning of schools in general. There is a lack of studies focusing on various aspects of career counselors’ professional activities, with the existing studies providing inconsistent or even contradictory results. Another problem lies in the huge gap between the theoretical, methodological, and methodical career counseling models and real counseling experience. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of analyzing and comparing the characteristics of career counselors’ professional activities in Lithuania, Italy, Greece, and Ireland. The study was part of the project “Strategies to Utilise and Cultivate Positive Characteristics & Employability Skills in Schools” (SUCCESS, 2017-12-LT01-KA201-035247).In total, 289 school career counselors from Lithuania, Italy, Ireland, and Greece were surveyed. Most of the participants (90 percent) were female, and their age varied between 25 and 60 years. In all countries, the professional experience of career counseling varied between 1 and 10 years. The results of this study revealed that across different countries, career professionals with different educational backgrounds perform career counseling. In Lithuania, career counselors are mainly psychologists, in Italy – teachers, in Ireland – consultants, and in Greece – teachers, psychologists, and consultants that carry out career counselling. The results have also shown that in all these countries career counselors perform various career counseling activities: career information, career assessment, career education, and career consulting using (non)psychological methods, although the frequency of these activities and the subjective readiness for them is different across countries. The counselors in all countries are satisfied with their jobs. Despite the existing differences in needs for professional development, all counselors expressed a higher-than-average need to develop their career counseling competencies.

Abstract:
Undocumented Latino students raise unique challenges for school counselors and student affairs professionals. Fears of deportation, limited access to higher education, and restrictions in future opportunities for employment are common. These obstacles can be lessened in the academic setting when school counselors and student affairs professionals work collaboratively toward systemic social justice advocacy. The purpose of this article is to illuminate the challenges encountered by undocumented Latino students and to introduce an ecological model that promotes social action within a K-16 system. Reflections on individual and collaborative social action interventions for undocumented students will be included. Implementation of this model may generate insights into how to educate professionals in both school counseling and student affairs on realistic and empowering methods to facilitate opportunities for undocumented Latino students.

Abstract:
Education can improve the standard of living for the better. The need for the importance of education does not only belong to men, women also have the same opportunity to study up to university level. But the reality is that not all women can go to college. Problems related to lack of interest and knowledge of the importance of education were found in Sasak Village, especially for the problem of education for young women there, most of whom only completed education only to the high school / equivalent level. To overcome this, activities need to be held to educate about the importance of education. The method used in this activity is expository, namely in the form of material delivery verbally and social approach, namely looking at the educational background of the community in delivering the material. The results obtained in this activity were that the community's insight increased more about the importance of education, because previously they assumed that women did not have to study until college. Knowledge gained by the community in this activity can motivate teenagers to be able to continue their education to college, and can change the views of parents about the importance of education. It is expected that counseling activities on the importance of education will be sustained supported by the participation of all citizens and the role of the Regional Government to be able to facilitate local people so that they can have the opportunity to continue their education to higher education.

Abstract:
Purpose Education-job mismatches, especially overeducation or vertical mismatch, are generally found to lower the worker’s job satisfaction, which may generate the counter-productive behaviors, such as high rates of absenteeism and turnover in developed countries. The purpose of this paper is to examine the impacts of educational mismatches from their both forms and dimensions (match, overeducation, horizontal mismatch and double mismatch) on the job satisfaction among university graduates in Cambodia. Design/methodology/approach To deal with the sample selection bias owing to the unobserved job satisfaction of unemployed graduates, this paper applies the Heckman probit model on a survey conducted with 19 higher education institutions in Cambodia. Findings Results indicate that a half of graduates suffer at least one type of educational mismatch and the both forms of mismatches adversely affect the job satisfaction with the strongest impact from the double mismatch case. Research limitations/implications The authors take into account the sample selection bias, but are not able to deal with the unobserved heterogeneity, such as individual competences and preferences. With the panel data, it would be possible to isolate those individual fixed effects. Practical implications The findings underline the importance of improvement in the quality of higher education in Cambodia that seems to play a main role in this education-job mismatch problem. Creating the occupational counseling for the high school students would be also helpful to orientate students to the majors strongly needed by the labor market. Originality/value This paper focuses on all forms and dimensions of mismatches and takes into account the sample selection bias in the context of a low-income country where the increasing rate of enrollment in higher education seems to be accompanied by an increasing rate of education-job mismatches. Previous research works focused mostly on overeducation and in developed countries.

Abstract:
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, pharmacy education has shifted from in-person teaching and assessments to the virtual environment. Many education programs had previously adopted objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) to assess communication abilities in-person with standardized patients (SPs). However, comparative student outcome data between virtual and in-person methods as well as guidance on how to conduct communication-based OSCEs in the virtual environment is lacking. The University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS) describes its methods of conducting two types of communication-based OSCEs (patient counseling and gathering a medical history). Student performance data from the two virtual OSCEs in 2020 was compared to results from two 2019 in-person OSCEs using Mann Whitney U Tests. The 2020 cohort scored significantly higher than the 2019 cohort in all variables (i.e., using effective verbal and non-verbal communication, using patient friendly education, organizing the encounter, demonstrating empathy, establishing trust, professionalism) and in overall score. However, the effect size for these findings indicate the differences between performances are generally small and more likely due to changes in grading patterns due to the pandemic.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the features of the introduction of innovative forms of career guidance work with student youth. It is determined that the problem of preparing high school students to choose their own professional future is important in today's world. It is noted that the success of a young person's life largely depends on how correct was the choice of profession, institution of higher education, profession. At the same time, the chosen profession should correspond to the personal qualities and capabilities of a young person, be interesting, and create opportunities for competitiveness in the labor market. Various organizational forms of career guidance work are analyzed: social and psychological services in secondary schools; career guidance departments in basic employment centers; resource centers for professional orientation of student youth in educational districts; social service centers for families, children and youth; various out-of-school institutions; career guidance and recruitment departments in higher education institutions, etc. Emphasis is placed on the need to introduce new organizational forms of career guidance work on the principle of "peer teaches peer", where students of socionomic professions activate high school students to responsibly choose their own professional future. On the one hand, this form of interaction is more effective and efficient because students better understand the interests, motives and needs of high school students. On the other hand, it can become a form of practice for students enrolled in educational programs of socionomic specialties of the first and second levels of higher education (social work, practical psychology, social pedagogy, etc.). The activity of the vocational guidance hub "PROFIT QUEST" on the basis of SHEI "Priazovsky State Technical University" is considered. The purpose and tasks of the career guidance hub are analyzed. The activity of the Vocational Guidance Hub "PROFit quest" is aimed at vocational guidance work with high school students, especially from families in SJO, on professional information, professional diagnostics, professional counseling and professional activation in the form of games and training. Among the technologies used in the activities of the career guidance hub, the following are considered: use in the role; information and educational technologies; technologies for awareness of one's own professional abilities; technologies for involving specialists of interested organizations in the project and others. The results of the online survey of training participants, career guidance testing and thematic quest game are analyzed.

Abstract:
In this study, it has been intended to examine reading cultures of pre-service teachers depending on multiple variables. The study group of this research consists of 377 pre-service teachers who are studying in fourth grade at Turkish Education, Psychological Counseling and Guidance, Primary School Mathematics Education, Computer and Instructional Technologies, Fine Arts-Music Education, English Education, and Special Education departments during the fall semester of 2017-2018 education year. “Reading Culture Scale”, which was formerly developed by the researchers, was carried out in order to designate the reading culture of pre-service teachers. With reference to the produced statistical analyses, the total average point on reading culture of pre-service teachers, who had attended the study, was found as medium. When variables affecting reading cultures of pre-service teachers were examined, a significant difference was observed in the variable of gender, and female pre-service teachers were identified to have higher average points in RCS comparing to male pre-service teachers. There are significant differences in RCS total points of pre-service teachers as regards to the variables of membership to the library, owning a bookcase, having a habit of reading. It has been designated that pre-service teachers with membership to the library, owning a bookcase and having a habit of reading had more RCS total average points than others. Through outcomes of this study, status evaluation, concerning reading cultures of pre-service teachers, had been conducted; and several suggestions were made upon adopting a reading culture to an individual with the aim of future studies.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVEAs compensation transitions from a fee-for-service to pay-for-performance healthcare model, providers must prioritize patient-centered experiences. Here, the authors’ primary aim was to identify predictors of patient dissatisfaction at 1 and 2 years after lumbar surgery.METHODSThe Michigan Spine Surgery Improvement Collaborative (MSSIC) was queried for all lumbar operations at the 1- and 2-year follow-ups. Predictors of patients’ postoperative contentment were identified per the North American Spine Surgery (NASS) Patient Satisfaction Index, wherein satisfied patients were assigned a score of 1 (“the treatment met my expectations”) or 2 (“I did not improve as much as I had hoped, but I would undergo the same treatment for the same outcome”) and unsatisfied patients were assigned a score of 3 (“I did not improve as much as I had hoped, and I would not undergo the same treatment for the same outcome”) or 4 (“I am the same or worse than before treatment”). Multivariable Poisson generalized estimating equation models were used to report adjusted risk ratios (RRadj).RESULTSAmong 5390 patients with a 1-year follow-up, 22% reported dissatisfaction postoperatively. Dissatisfaction was predicted by higher body mass index (RRadj =1.07, p < 0.001), African American race compared to white (RRadj = 1.51, p < 0.001), education level less than high school graduation compared to a high school diploma or equivalent (RRadj = 1.25, p = 0.008), smoking (RRadj = 1.34, p < 0.001), daily preoperative opioid use > 6 months (RRadj = 1.22, p < 0.001), depression (RRadj = 1.31, p < 0.001), symptom duration > 1 year (RRadj = 1.32, p < 0.001), previous spine surgery (RRadj = 1.32, p < 0.001), and higher baseline numeric rating scale (NRS)–back pain score (RRadj = 1.04, p = 0.002). Conversely, an education level higher than high school graduation, independent ambulation (RRadj = 0.90, p = 0.039), higher baseline NRS–leg pain score (RRadj = 0.97, p = 0.013), and fusion surgery (RRadj = 0.88, p = 0.014) decreased dissatisfaction.Among 2776 patients with a 2-year follow-up, 22% reported dissatisfaction postoperatively. Dissatisfaction was predicted by a non-white race, current smoking (RRadj = 1.26, p = 0.004), depression (RRadj = 1.34, p < 0.001), symptom duration > 1 year (RRadj = 1.47, p < 0.001), previous spine surgery (RRadj = 1.28, p < 0.001), and higher baseline NRS–back pain score (RRadj = 1.06, p = 0.003). Conversely, at least some college education (RRadj = 0.87, p = 0.035) decreased the risk of dissatisfaction.CONCLUSIONSBoth comorbid conditions and socioeconomic circumstances must be considered in counseling patients on postoperative expectations. After race, symptom duration was the strongest predictor of dissatisfaction; thus, patient-centered measures must be prioritized. These findings should serve as a tool for surgeons to identify at-risk populations that may need more attention regarding effective communication and additional preoperative counseling to address potential barriers unique to their situation.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the validity of the Idaho Foundation Standards for School Administrators, an adaptation of the ISLLC standards, as the basis of Idaho administrator preparation. If the objective of creating standards is to prepare administrators to lead successful schools, then a preparation program based on the standards should result in principals who get higher achievement results, create responsible citizens, or otherwise produce successful students. Data from three sources, building administrators, superintendents, and administrative interns, were compared to the standards. Identified areas of need not addressed by the standards included counseling skills, training in change strategies, and the laws governing programs for special populations. This exploratory research into the validity of the Idaho Foundation Standards for School Administrators has resulted in the identification of some discrepancies between administrator preparation, the standards, and administrator practice. Results will be used in revising program curriculum to meet both administrators’ needs in the field and the new National Council for Accrediation of Teacher Education (NCATE) program accreditation guidelines.

Abstract:
PurposeStudents’ progressing to tertiary (undergrad or higher) level education often faces problems due to the change in the educational settings that may directly or indirectly affect their studies and interim results. In addition, they may suffer from low self-esteem, which in turn may result from another set of issues such as negative peers, past poor results, unable to get into a school of choice and so on. Those who have to live away from home to attend a university could have their own set of problems. To provide support many universities have counseling offices to help the students tackle their problems. The counseling officers often give repeated appointments in an attempt to help solve these problems. At the university where the research was conducted, more than 75 percent of the students come from a rural background. These are students who, for the purposes of acquiring their tertiary-level education, have had to move to the city, away from their family. These students are known to have problems such as adjusting to urban life, missing home, managing all household chores by themselves, even a culture shock given the nature of urban life and so on, all of which may affect their studies. Unfortunately, the university under study does not employ a student counselor to look after students coming from rural areas. Therefore, to support such students it was thought that a peer counseling session might help the students help themselves.Design/methodology/approachA workshop using a collaborative approach to help students solve their own problems was designed and conducted. From three different departments, 78 students with a low Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA < 2.50 out of 4.0) participated in the problem-solving workshop. The students were guided in a collaborative environment where individual problems were first identified anonymously by working in pairs and possible solutions were presented by the students themselves by working in collaborative groups.FindingsThe paper proposes a performance-improving model to reduce the dropout rate and ensure graduation with a better CGPA. After six semesters of the intervention, the performance of the participating students was compared against the students with similar profile who did not attend the workshop. The perception of effectiveness of the collaborative guidance model was also measured by taking feedback from students.Research limitations/implicationsThe collaborative approach seems to benefit students by empowering them to think on their own to solve study-related problems by themselves. To become a standardized procedure, however, more rigorous testing across a greater cross section and number of subjects would be helpful. This paper provides an initial study of the methodology for further study and use.Originality/valueAs the collaborative approach purely involves peers, it benefits students by empowering them to solve study-related problems by themselves and indirectly help self-esteem development.

Abstract:
Abstract In the article, the defined problem has been justified and the significance of studying foreign experience in training future technology and engineering teachers in the USA has been determined. Particular attention has been paid to explanation of methods and forms of organization of future technology and engineering teachers’ training in the USA. The authors have considered Education Technology Standards, developed by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), that are used as reference points and determine the minimum amount of training as well as electives. In addition, there have been outlined such training techniques as microteaching, reflective teaching, the simulation method that allow involving the students into real teaching rather than role-playing; decrease complexity of pedagogical actions through ensuring acquisition of specific skills needed for the teacher in order to form experience of pedagogical interaction. It has been found out that in order to prove themselves during the first year of study in a higher education institution the students create their own web pages and portfolios that consist of working portfolio, showcase portfolio and documentation portfolio. It has been established that mini courses are actively used to help future technology and engineering teachers acquire necessary pedagogical skills. Based on analysis of the research findings, the authors have concluded that counseling or mentoring as forms of training greatly contribute to personal development of both students and their mentor as well as effective collaboration between school and university staff. It has been identified that enhancing effectiveness of teaching practice in American higher education institutions ensures involving clinical professors who monitor, guide and assess teaching practice of future specialists.

Abstract:
The current problems of pediatrics are the individual approach and optimization of the quality of life of primary school children. The aim of our research was to study the quality of life among children of primary school age according to their cognitive development and gender and age characteristics. Materials and methods of research: cognitive development was studied using the D. Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, the Stanford-Binet intelligence scale and the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT). As a result, 573 primary school children were divided into 2 groups: I with a high cognitive level (82 people) and II with an average level (491 people). The PedsQL 4.0 questionnaire, used by children attending schools in cities of Rostov-on-Don and Lugansk for 4 years, served as a tool for quality of life. Physical, emotional, social functioning, psycho-social health have been studied, as well as an overall quality of life score. More reduced quality of life indicators were found in children with a high cognitive level, with the exception of school functioning. Girls levels of cognition have been found to have lower levels of physical and emotional functioning than boys, but higher levels of social functioning. Conclusions: there is a need to change the way children are taught in gym classes and to provide additional counseling for child psychologists and pediatricians in order to optimize children’s education.

Abstract:
Abstract. Interest in the prediction of academic success in higher education has grown considerably in recent years in German-speaking countries. While the validity of school grades and admission tests has been investigated by meta-analyses and large-scale studies at least in the United States, less is known about noncognitive predictors of academic success. The present meta-analysis investigates the impact of the Big Five personality factors on academic success at university. A total of 258 correlation coefficients from 58 studies published since 1980 were included. Grades, retention, and satisfaction served as success criteria. Correlations were corrected for attenuation caused by measurement error. Results show that the influence of personality traits on academic achievement depends on the success criterion. While Neuroticism is related to academic satisfaction (? = -.369, k = 8), Conscientiousness correlates with grades (? = .269, k = 41). Extraversion, Openness to Experience, and Agreeableness have no significant impact on academic success. Moderator analyses suggest effects of culture for the validity of Extraversion. Parallels to validity for job performance are identified and implications for admission and counseling of students are discussed.

Abstract:
The Ministry of Education of Taiwan conducted an e-learning partner program to offer life-accompaniment and subject teaching to elementary and secondary students through a network platform with cooperation from university undergraduates. The aim of the e-learning partner program was to improve the motivation and interest of the children after learning at school. However, the outcome of this program stated that the retention rate of the undergraduates was low over three semesters in the case universities. Therefore, the training cost for the program was wasted each semester, and it was necessary to solve the problem and improve the situation. The evaluation of self-efficacy directly affects a person’s motivation for the job. This research examined inner self-efficacy (teaching and counseling) and outer support (administration and equipment) that would contribute to and predict the success and the persistence of the e-learning partner program. There were 94 valid self-evaluation records in the 2019 academic year. ANOVA, post hoc, and partial least squares (PLS) analyses were conducted. The results showed that the year level, experience, and teacher education program background were significantly different in this study. The network behavior model was set up effectively to predict the retention from four scopes. A higher teaching self-efficacy would have better passion and innovation scores than the others. Using the suggestions for improvement, decreasing the gap between undergraduates’ expectations and promoting sustainability in the e-learning partner program can be achieved.

Abstract:
The article highlights theoretical aspects of the socio-pedagogical direction of pedagogical practice of future primary school teachers. The tasks of pedagogical practice as a mandatory component of professional training of future specialists are outlined. The necessity of involvement employers in cooperation with higher education institutions to ensure a high level of continuous practical training, creating conditions for professional development and self-realization of future teachers are substantiated. Great emphasis is placed on the need for creative use of theoretical knowledge and practical skills working with students, modern teaching technologies, students’ educational and social development, as well as systematic professional self-improvement and self-development. It was proved that in the process of teacher training system pedagogical practice performs a number of important functions: educational, developmental, diagnostic and corrective, communicative, organizational (management), prognostic, preventive, etc. The approximate content of this student practice in general educational institutions is given taking into account such directions, as: work with deviant and gifted pupils, inclusive education, sociocultural animation, etc. The results of an empirical study on the readiness of graduates of pedagogical specialties for the practical use of social and educational technologies in school are presented. The difficulties most often faced by respondents in working with students were identified, including: work with different categories of parents, individual counseling of students, resolution of pedagogical conflicts, implementation of diagnostic activities and socio-pedagogical communication, etc. The author proved that combination of theoretical and practical teacher training, integration of teaching with research and experimental work would contribute to the practical orientation of the educational process at the university, active search and implementation of non-traditional forms and methods of teaching, in particular in socio-pedagogical aspects.
The article partially uses the materials of the author's dissertation “Theoretical and methodological principles of professional training of future primary school teachers for socio-pedagogical activities” (2015) for the degree of Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences.

Abstract:
AbstractObjective:Impaired fertility and reproductive health after cancer treatment is an important quality-of-life issue among female childhood cancer survivors (CCSs). This study aims to measure female CCSs' knowledge about their reproductive health and their exposure to and views about reproductive counseling (RC).Method:This is a cross-sectional, web-survey study of female CCSs aged 18 to 45 years who were diagnosed with cancer before age 21 years and currently had no evidence of disease.Results:Fifty-six CCSs participated (response rate = 48%; mean current age = 26). Knowledge about reproductive health after cancer treatment was severely limited within this sample of highly educated survivors (91% educated beyond high school), who provided correct answers only 32% of the time. Only 9 and 5% of the women had pursued RC with a fertility specialist before and after cancer treatment, respectively. The majority thought they had not been provided enough information about reproductive health. White ethnicity (p < 0.001), higher annual income (p = 0.007), and higher education level (p = 0.02) were significantly associated with a positive opinion about RC.Significance of Results:A limited number of CCSs took advantage of RC in spite of their high interest in and limited knowledge about reproductive issues. Targeted referrals for RC may allow for improved decision making about reproductive options.

Abstract:
372 Background: Contemporary management for patients with stage I testicular cancer (TC) continues to evolve. Survival is dependent upon staging, surveillance, and the treatment(s) rendered. We sought to determine whether treatment recommendations have been impacted by evidence gained from recent clinical trials and how sociodemographic factors might affect therapeutic decisions for patients with stage I pure seminoma (PS) and nonseminoma (NSGCT). Methods: We performed a single institution, institutional review board approved, retrospective review of patients evaluated for TC from 1999 to 2013. Chi-square and logistic regression analyses were performed between multiple variables including: type of treatment, specialty of the provider, year of treatment, insurance status, distance traveled to our hospital, and education level. Results: Four hundred forty patients were evaluated; of this group 121 patients had stage I TC. For NSGCT patients, living further than 50 miles from our center was associated with treatment (p=0.013). NSGCT patients who had completed an undergraduate education were more likely to undergo surveillance compared to those with a high school education (p<0.01). If intervention was recommended, NSGCT patients evaluated prior to 2010 were more likely to undergo primary retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND) (p<0.01). After 2010 these patients were more likely to have primary chemotherapy (PC) (p<0.01). NSGCT patients evaluated by urologic oncologists had higher RPLND rates while patients evaluated by medical oncologists more often received PC (p<0.01). The percentage of PS patients receiving external beam radiation decreased from 40% to 5% after 2010, while the rate of surveillance increased from 47% to 79% (p=0.016). For all stage I patients the presence of lymphovascular invasion was associated with treatment compared to surveillance (p<0.001). Conclusions: The management of patients with stage I TC has changed significantly over the past decade. In our study, management recommendations have been shown to be dependent upon the specialty of the provider and other social factors such as distance from the hospital as well as education level, which suggests the possibility of bias during patient counseling.
